I'm a nurse at Lurie myself and feel so confident in the level of care provided here and the access to the docs with walk-in hours. My son has been a patient here for seven years, and I've finally decided we will not be returning. At his recent seven-year checkup, I received a $130 bill because the office tried to classify it as a "double visit." After multiple calls and days of waiting, I was told the charge wouldn't be covered because I had asked for a letter for speech therapy. Even worse, the original explanation given to me was that we were charged because "autism was brought up" during the visit. This is absolutely unacceptable. My son has been on the spectrum --why would I be charged extra for discussing his health during a well visit? If this was truly a "double visit," that should have been communicated upfront, not hidden in the billing process. It feels dishonest and misleading. Families who already have enough to manage should not have to fight surprise charges or be made to feel like discussing their child's diagnosis is somehow billable. After this experience, I cannot recommend this office. Parents deserve transparency, compassion, and honesty in their child's care, and unfortunately, that is not what we received here. read more

We received a very unprofessional treatment by Dr. Taback. She completely ignored me (the father), and rushed through the whole meeting in 25 minutes for two children combined. She was dismissive, rude and impersonal. She clearly did not care about our children and her line of questioning showed the least amount of care possible. She quickly read through all questions without even looking up to see what our responses were. I do not recommend this business at all. People working in pediatric care should be patient and show empathy, my family received none of that. read more

We went here with my kiddo when she was 2. The doctors were dismissive about our concerns, which were later diagnosed by specialists. Later we saw some of the doctors publicly sharing their anti mask and anti vaccine views at local protests. They seem to have removed their Twitter where they shared hostile anti trans viewpoints that go against actual medical and scientific practice. Went in today with my 5-day old daughter for a checkup. Taking a newborn out in public for the first time is always a task so I was a little distracted. More than halfway through the appointment I realize the doctor isn't wearing a mask. I get we're "post pandemic" and masks are no longer mandatory in some medical spaces but COVID still exists and we're just barely past a record breaking RSV season. I would think a pediatrician who regularly sees sick children would have the respect and care to wear a mask in a room with a completely unvaccinated, vulnerable newborn. I was wearing a mask, so you'd think she would at least offer to put on once she walked in the room. Dr. Brito was the visiting pediatrician while my daughter and I were still in the hospital and she was great. Other than that, I have been underwhelmed with the care here. We've been with Oak Park Pediatrics since 2018. Both of our young kiddos see Dr. Brito, and we take my bonus son there as needed for urgent care. We couldn't pass her up after meeting with her ahead of our daughter's arrival. Dr. Brito is a really great and thorough doctor. During our initial meeting with her, she spent a lot of time with my husband and I explaining how the practice works. She has an excellent demeanor with the kids and she doesn't rush us through our appointments. She always asks us how we are doing and how all of our kids are doing. She's also very responsive to inquiries between appointments, too. Recently, Dr. Hodges and Dr. Taback have been very helpful with COVID cases with our children, too. Dr. Taback answered many calls over the holidays after she shared our test results. In our almost four years, I've only had one unreturned call from the nurses, and it was not for anything super urgent. I also haven't had any trouble with the front desk staff or any of the nurses. read more

Mediocre. This is where we go for the past decade. It is okay. Dr Haro and his nurse at the time were awesome. Practice in one word.... meh. They care more about asking your kid if they wears a bicycle helmet and getting your insurance updated than your kid's actual health and wellness check. Nurses have attitude. Front desk is hit or miss. They talk down to you and, frankly, I don't feel we have always received the best care and advice. Recently our child had an allergic reaction and called the emergency number that you have to pay to use and nobody answered. We rushed our kid to the only urgent care that was open at the time. It could have been avoided should they have answered the phone. Again, mediocre. read more

Had to post this letter from them. Unbelievable. First off I want to point out that after I wrote the review they referenced, I transferred the medical records with Valerie close to two months ago. That means before they sent this letter to me they didn't even check their own system to see I paid the money, picked up the records and have already had physicals with our new doctor. The other thing this letter points out that they do call you to ask you to remove your review. In addition they they send this letter telling you to take your business elsewhere. From a scheduling standpoint, Oak Park Pediatrics makes obtaining healthcare for your child easy. I especially appreciate the late office hours; the practice is open until 8:00 pm twice a week. Even better are the walk-in hours; the doctors accept walk-ins 8:15-9:15 am Monday-Friday for established patients with acute illnesses. Our primary doctor is Tara Brito; she is friendly, cares about making kids comfortable, addresses issues from a positive angle, and welcomes questions. We have also had positive interactions with Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hodges. Last but certainly not least, I have a child who broke a bone and the practice couldn't have been more helpful coordinating care. The doctor saw my child quickly and arranged for them to immediately get X-rays at local place with a short wait time. Then the practice managed to get my child in to see an orthopedic doctor at Lurie Children's that same day. Oak Park Pediatrics helped to make what could have been a very stressful day as smooth as possible. read more

When I moved to Oak Park, OP Pediatrics was recommended to me and I have been very happy with their office. It was so easy to transition all of my daughters records, their office staff is beyond friendly and accommodating and the Doctors are amazing. My daughters and I have really enjoyed seeing Dr. Thompson and Dr Taback. They are both very professional and great with the kids. It is nice to know that when your kids are not at their best, that you have doctors that will listen and make your kids feel comfortable about going to the doctor. I also especially love their walk-in hours during the week, it definitely helped me this year, with so many random illnesses. I alternate between Dr. Thompson and Dr. Britol for my boys (2 and 7 years). Dr. Thompson is extremely thorough and always offers more feedback than the norm, which I love! She is patient and is willing to sit with me while I ramble about all my worries :) she also has a very straightforward approach, logical and will let us know if she suggests a different alternative that would work better than what we are doing at home. Dr. Britol is the sweetest and also knows her stuff. She is easy going and takes her time. She also recognizes little things (ex. my 2 year old's slight heart murmur) and always make us comfortable when diagnosing and/or recommending options. The hours are flexible enough where I am able to make appointments with no problem, even though I live in the NW Burbs (yes, I travel for them). The only issue, which isn't a huge deal for me because my main concern if the credentials of the Dr.'s seeing my children, is the front office. Some of the girls aren't so friendly and it is really disappointing. It would be nice to always see happy faces, from a customer service perspective. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this practice. My almost 6-year-old son has been a patient here since birth, and EVERY experience has been fantastic - from the receptionists, nurses (thank you, Vilma), and doctors. Dr. Thompson is my son's doctor, and we think she walks on water. We see her whenever we can, but we have also seen other doctors in the practice. All have been good. Most recently, Oak Park Pediatrics got us an appointment at the last minute on a Friday when my son suffered a "ninjury" (an injury at ninja camp - LOL) that we thought might require stitches. Fortunately, Dr. Taback and nurse Vilma were able to glue him up. We are so appreciative of our relationship with them. Despite not seeing them very frequently, we feel both known and cared for. We recently moved to another part of the city, but have no intention of finding a new practice. We feel very fortunate to be patients here. read more

We went to the pediatrician Thursday night because daycare called and was concerned about my daughter. She was breathing funny and was covered in a rash. I rushed to pick her up and we went in to OP Peds that night. They looked at her, said it was a virus and a rash and that she was fine. By Sunday, her breathing was shallow and fairly rapid (55-60 bmp). I paged the dr. Waited 20 minutes, and then paged again. The Dr. called back and sounded completely irritated that I had bothered her. I described the symptoms, she said it also sounded like a bad cold and suck her nose a lot (which of course, I had been doing every hour or more). My mamma bear instinct still felt like something was wrong. I'm a first time mom, though, so what do I know. Another doctor reached out on Facebook in the meantime and was very sweet. She offered to contact me if I did not hear back from the original doctor. I explained that I had heard back but did not feel welcome calling. I explained that I was a scared first time mom and I was discouraged that I felt like a bother to this doctor. The facebook doctor apologized and said she would relay this message to the paged doctor because they did not want Moms feeling this way. BIG MISTAKE. The office called the next day to check on her. I said she was not feeling better and seemed to be getting worse. The doctor that I had originally paged got on the phone and "apologized" for not calling me back "as fast as I wanted." She said they had 30 minutes to return pages and that she was with her daughter so she could not return every page "in like three minutes." She also mentioned she heard "there was something on facebook." First of all, relax. I didn't put your name on facebook and I wasn't calling out out. I wanted other mom's advice while I waited for your page. Secondly, I also carry a pager and we are required to return emergency pages in 15 minutes. You don't like getting paged on the weekends, I get it. I don't either, but it's a part of your job. I explained that my daughter was getting worse. She again said it sounded like a cold. She said it was "up to me" if I wanted to bring her in again. Up to me? You tell me. YOU'RE the doctor. I'm calling you for help. Went with my mommy gut and took her in. Saw the very sweet doctor who listened and took her time with me. They did a swab for RSV and it came back negative. The doctor offered me a breathing treatment. She explained there was no evidence that it would work, but that it couldn't hurt. At this point I was so desperate to make my girl feel better that i was about to try anything. We left with abuterol and a nebulizer and faithfully did breathing treatments all night every four hours. The next day, my daughter looked even worse. She was sleeping way more than usual, lethargic, breathing so fast and shallow. She looked pale. It was awful. I started to panic and said screw it. I know they say she's fine but I'm going to the emergency room. I called my husband and he came home from work. We rushed her to Lurie and SHE WAS ADMITTED TO THE PICU IMMEDIATELY WITH RSV. Yup, the same thing she tested negative for not even 12 hours before at OP Peds. There is a doctor there that I love (Dr. Haro) and there is also a fantastic nurse, but we won't be back. This isn't the first time we've had an issue with the care there (We wen't for a second opinion elsewhere for a different issue and they closed her file...we had to argue to be "allowed" to make an appointment at the practice again." p.s. I asked for other recommendations for pediatricians on facebook, and the doctor I originally paged actually got on and commented, "We at Oak Park Pediatrics strive to provide the best care care to our patients and their families and we encourage families to contact us directly to discuss any concerns they may have. We make all efforts to be available and responsive to our patients in a very timely manner." Well that's great. That's not your biggest problem. The problem is that you saw my daughter three times in less than one week and she ended up in the PICU for several days with a virus you said she didn't have. read more

I find that most people write reviews when they're disappointed in service - really a terrible perspective on life if you ask me. So, I choose to write reviews when I'm completely impressed by a business/organization. The team at Oak Park Peds is incredible. They're honest, direct and relevant. Understanding that most parents can't resist the Dr. Google is something doctors probably hate but not here. They know you're going to do it and it's not because you don't trust them, it's because they are your children and you can't help but do everything in your power to help them. We have two kids under two and both have happily seen each of the physicians and their assistants. When we call and ask to schedule and appointment, we really could care less who it is - because they're all amazing. Ask any question, you'll get an answer. We had a bit of a scare with our youngest when she was five weeks and they immediately supported us through the process of getting her to Loyola Pediatric Emergency Room. We were there for a few days (everything was negative, whew!) but they called several times to see how everyone was doing, scheduled follow ups etc. Without being prompted by my husband or I. It's what you want...Good doctors (four I think total) that adore helping keep children healthy. That's what it boils down too. Also, the insurance works with them and we have never had any issues with any of that. read more

Dr Thompson is really nice but Dr Taback shouldn't be allowed to see babies. She misdiagnosed a staph infection. Wasn't sure what the rash was and sent me on my way. I'm so glad I had the common sense to see a pediatric derm because it just didn't feel right. She also completely blew off my daughter's reflux. This is trivial but she had never heard of the snoo (a very popular bassinet) and seemed fascinated by our Comotomo bottle. If you have been near babies you've seen them and know what they are. Anything I brought up basically got a head scratch. She's sort of useless. Then I called to speak to a nurse when my daughters temp spiked to 102. The office was closing and I asked what to do if it went up. Her answer? Nothing. Specifically, even if it went up to 104 or 105. I said I thought that meant we should go to the hospital (you should at that point) and she asked why I thought that. I'd recommend Pedios. read more

Great doctors at oak park pediatrics. Both my daughters go here, and when one comes in the doctors always remember to ask how the other one is doing. The doctors also made enrolling my infant daughter east, visiting at northwestern after I gave birth. Finally, even in pre-COVID times, the doctors office have clear signs to separate sick kids from those waiting a standard check up. read more

We love Oak Park Pediatrics! The sweetest nurses. The most helpful admin staff. And all the amazing doctors. We interviewed several different pediatric groups before our baby arrived, and Oak Park Pediatrics was the clear winner. Their office hours are really convenient for working parents, with Saturday hours and 8 pm closings certain weeknights. Billing has been really smooth, with no surprises. And it's been easy to get an appointment when we need one. Our daughter sees Dr. Brito, who couldn't be kinder or more patient. She always smiles and responds politely to our questions. (We laugh later, wondering how many times she has gotten that same question over the years. But you would never know based on her reaction.) Also of note, Dr. Brito is quick to respond to questions over email, usually within 24 hours. That's been reassuring when we've had the odd, "well that's interesting..." situation. We are so glad we chose this practice. And trust them with our child's care. You have to go with your gut. If you're looking for a pediatrician, pay them a visit and see if they're the right fit for your fam. read more

We have had a seamless transition from transferring of records to acclimating to a new physician. They were able accommodate us immediately and the front end staff are warm and welcoming. Today we took our newborn in for her newborn appointment. We did a homebirth so this is her first time seeing anyone besides our midwife. Of course as new parents we were a little anxious. I work for a doula agency though and we recommend oak park pediatrics to a lot of our clients so I felt comfortable going there. The front desk staff seemed helpful and friendly. The nurse we saw that did measurements was very nice and helpful as well even though our baby peed literally all over the table ASAP. Our appointment was made with Dr. Brito. She was SO nice and encouraging and made us feel very comfortable and confident in how we are doing things at home. She was easy to get along with and was very gentle with the baby. We will continue to use oak park pediatrics and request Dr. Brito continuously. A few hours after we left I realized I forgot to ask a question and emailed Dr. Brito & even though the office was closed she answered me pretty promptly which was appreciated. We started going here when my son was born in Jan. '17. So far we love it! We made an appointment prior to his birth to get to know the practice. Dr. Haro met with us and told us what to expect and answered all our questions. He was super helpful so we have decided to stick with him but have heard only great things about all the Doctors. We did see Dr. Brito once when coming in the same day as Dr. Haro was unavailable and she was fantastic as well! While they don't have a parking lot, you can find street parking on Chicago or Marion typically. I love that I can email Dr. Haro directly with non-emergency questions, which I have tons of being a first time mom, and he responds within a day. We have been super happy and would recommend the practice to anyone looking for a pediatrician in the area! read more

We recently moved to Oak Park, and I was researching pediatricians in the area and so glad that we chose Dr. Taback. She has walk-in sick appts M-F from 8:15-9:15 and she even came into the office on a Sunday to see our daughter who had strep. So nice to not have to go to urgent care on a weekend and get to see your pedi who is familiar with your child. The office is very clean and nicely decorated and the receptionist is very friendly. The office has the small town feel where they know you by name and it is not overly busy. My family have been seeing Dr. Taback since she opened OPP. I was always struck at her honesty as a parent of young children and the way she could identify with the struggles that parents of little kids frequently have. Since then, our children have grown Dr. Taback has provided not just medical help when we needed it, but support and resources for mental health and much more. The practice has grown over the years and added more doctors & nurses - all of whom we have met and liked very much. They all work unbelievably hard and the fact that they have to navigate the needs of newborns all the way to 18 year old's is humbling. OPP are huge supporters of many non-profits in the community, displaying their commitment to the families and the town in a very tangible way. My 18 week old son absolutely loved her, he couldn't stop smiling and laughing. The office is warm and the front desk staff is very nice. We got an appointment within a week of calling, and wait time was less than 10 minutes. The have electronic records which is very convenient. We found Oak Park Pediatrics when I was pregnant with my daughter. The staff is amazing - nurses, front office staff and doctors. We have seen almost all of the team and always feel welcomed and listened to during our visits. Our daughter had a few health issues her first year, and the doctors went out of their way to help and answer our questions. Being a nervous first time mom this was so incredibly helpful. We also really appreciate the open office hours for existing patients - very convenient instead of waiting around all day for a sick appointment. We just moved to Oak Park from Chicago. As a result, my daughter is still a patient with Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group Pediatrics. (I happen to like their practice a lot and don't want to change doctors, even if the location is a bit out of the way.) However, when my daughter came down with an ear infection -- which most moms would agree is a relatively routine thing -- I wanted to get her to a doctor quickly without going through the hassle of driving to Lincoln Park. So I called this office to try to set up an appointment. The receptionist I spoke to was unbelievably rude. She flat-out refused to set up an appointment for my daughter unless I agreed to permanently transfer her and her medical files to their practice. Bottom line: You're a doctor's office. You should never turn away patients. And if that's your policy, find a better (and a polite) way to communicate it. If I ever do switch pediatric practices, it won't be to this one. read more

I love this place and Dr. Hodges. I was looking for a practice that would be close to our house in Galewood when I was pregnant with my twins and saw online that you could make an appointment to "meet the practice". I did and was very impressed with the place, not just in appearance, but in the way that everyone there seemed to really like their job(s) and interact with each other- which is very telling. Once they were born, it has been so easy to schedule appointments, even when both came home at different times from the NICU. I've thankfully only had to bring each in once during the walk-in hours, but it really isn't a long wait at all and the doctors handling the walk-ins give just as much attention to you as if you were "theirs" and had a scheduled appointment. I also love that the nurses will take my mom's calls (she is the nanny) and help her out with questions. And, unlike Northwestern, I have not had any billing problems with this office, which is a blessing! read more

I have been bringing my four year old here since she was born and I am now bringing my 8 month old. Everyone is always so friendly and all the doctors are so helpful. We mostly see Dr. Taback and she is the best! I love that they can accommodate both of my kids during one appointment. I always leave feeling informed and that my kids are well taken care of. I never have a problem getting an appointment for well exams or the occasional sick ones we have needed. I always get a prompt call back even after hours when we were dealing with a dog bite. My kids are never scared when coming and enjoy the after visit lollipop and sticker. read more

All three of my little ones see Dr. Thompson and we love her. She's helped us navigate through all the typical kid's illnesses and a few not-so-typical ones. They get you right into the exam room and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes before the doctor comes in. They are very efficient but I've never felt rushed and they always insist you stay in the room as long as you need to after the appt has ended to nurse a baby or comfort a toddler after shots, etc. Over the past 5 years I've seen all the other docs in the practice and have really liked all except one...which is a pretty good percentage as I can be quite picky! The office staff is fine - not especially friendly or customer service focused but they get the job done. The nurses, however, are all WONDERFUL - super friendly, great with kids, and easy to reach by phone when you have a concern. Highly recommend this practice. read more
