Poor, unfriendly, condescending service as always. The last time I shopped at BikeBike 8 years ago…read morethe service was awful. I went back today for the first time since and nothing has changed. Sadly, I was forced to go there for a specific product that was out of stock elsewhere in the city. Worst bike shop in Calgary in my opinion. I would recommend The Bike Shop, Ridley's, Bow Cycle, and Bike & Brew if you want friendly, knowledgeable staff. Many years ago, Sean, the owner of BikeBike and I were on a group ride together and we had a conversation about a bike I purchased from his shop. I mentioned that I hadn't brought it back for the first complimentary tune up yet but well over a year expired since I purchased the bike. Sean told me that it was no problem and that he'd still tune it up for me free of charge. I brought the bike in a few days later and he tried to charge me for the tune up. I remined him of the conversation that happened a few days earlier but he denied the conversation ever happened. I don't think you'll see me in 8 years Sean. I do know that anyone with a set of ears will hear about the crappy service that I received 8 years ago as well as last week.

Thinking about increasing your activity level? Looking for a new way to enjoy the city? Considering…read morea major lifestyle change? Head to BikeBike! Odds are you will be greeted by Sean when you walk through the door! He is a friendly chap, which a great smile and lots of laughs to share. You will instantly feel like you have met a new friend. He & his staff are awesome! Great customer service seems to come naturally to this place! They have a variety of bikes, from Strider bikes for the wee ones, to SERIOUS bikes for SERIOUS people. Lots to please people like me, that just like to cruise and fart around, without getting to sweaty. (What can I say? I'm an outta shape girly girl.) The cargo bikes are pretty cool to check out. They honestly have something for everyone. Even if you have never ridden a bike before. Come prepared to take a bike out for a spin around the block. Looking for accessories? They have ridiculously awesome helmets, bags, baskets, seats, yadda yadda yadda! It is worth a trip in just to check out all the cool stuff they have. (OH! They have wicked toboggans too.) While they are very pro-bicycle lifestyle living, there is no sense of judgement for those of us that lean towards a more car-friendly lifestyle. They simply love to share their knowledge and ideas. Have questions? They will always answer them. Their service is top notch! Best to get your bike in early for pre-season maintenance as they get busy. You know that things will be fixed up right when you take your bike there. Check it out! You will be glad you did. (PS - Check out their new sign outside the shop. It's hilarious! A true testament to their sense of love for life & humour.)

The owner was absolutely lovely and amazing and recommended a scenic route to the Peace Bridge and along the river. There are group tours available. This was absolutely the best way to enjoy the city. Highly recommend it.

Reworks Upcycle Shop is like a DIY Pinterest board in the form of a real local business... except…read morethe products are actually amazing quality because professionals made them and not me! And if we wanna talk local, more than half their products are made in Canada and 99% from North America. We're talking indestructible messenger bags made out of used seat belts that go as far as to tell you what kind of car they were salvaged from. I stumbled across Reworks without a clue what to expect, wound up doing a good chunk of my Christmas shopping here, and will be back to do a tonne more! Here's what I found: - Purses made from pop can tabs creating a high quality aluminum chainmaille. ( I bought 2 of 'em) - Bottle openers from used bicycle chains. (I hope someone buys me one ;) ) - Bowls from used bike chains...actually, there's a lot of bicycle culture reflected in this store, which I think makes it all the more cool. The owner is a true bicycle fan and her store takes my lifelong love of bikes and brings it into the rest of my lifestyle with style. Used license plate clutches, bike tire belts, wine and beer bottle serving trays, chandeliers and everything. I imagine the product selection at Reworks changes often to keep reclaimed fresh, but even if all the awesome things I've mentioned no longer exist by the time you read my review, you'll still be able to expect high quality and unbelievably creative local products here. If you've ever uttered the term "shabby chic" you need to check this place out.

Having traveled abroad and been on many walking/bike tours, it's something I've realized Calgary definitely needs as it develops history and culture. The biking tour I did was fairly informative with me learning new facts about the public art I had no idea about previously. I would recommend that if the information was a bit cleaned up then the users would be able to take away more from the tours but that being said, I had a fantastic evening biking around Calgary and learned a bunch of interesting things. Kiran, who runs the tour is passionate and knowledgeable and makes it a very laid back and fun evening. Would recommend to anybody!

As a regular pedestrian/cyclist of the trails and pathways downtown, I was excited to learn more about the pieces seen regularly in passing. We began the night at East Village where our guide explained in detail Light & Soul, a temporary fixture where past meet future. There is significant influence from Indigenous storytelling. Hands forming different shapes from nature (animal, trees, etc) was one of the major themes. Did you know the murals on the underpass are actually vinyl wallpaper? Now you do! We moved up to the large permanent accordion mosaic by Ron Moppet, which is an abstract vision of Alberta's past to future. It's a piece I have missed on my travels since it is on the East side of the overpass, but one of the most colourful on the tour. After that, we visited the head in front of the Bow Tower, the Conversation in Stephen Ave, Chinook Arc in Bob Scott Park (which is interactive), Luminous Crossings at Kerby Station, and Memorial Steel Art. I learned a lot about these pieces I've seen before, and saw things that I hadn't noticed before. The total time on our bikes was around 2 hrs. This was slightly longer than I had anticipated, but we were moving quite slow in order to stick together. If you can pick up the pace with your group, it'd be the perfect length. Thanks again for the tour, Kiran!
