Well, after paying approx. $4500.00 his score went even further down. To our utter surprise, he cony improved to a 1350 !!! It is Horrible Horrible Place, just like Sylvan Center (have had experience with that too and thought this may be a better center). The teachers are young college students and they even discourage students on many levels. They will just give students a few questions as home work and that was it. Towards the end of your sessions, they start pressurizing you to buy more sessions and spend several thousands more! My son was extremely heartbroken! The instructor clearly knows what he's talking about and is more than happy to facilitate actual learning instead of just talking at you for two weeks. That said, the place lacks A LOT of polish you'd expect to get for the $400ish price tag. Only one of the sinks in the school actually works and the handles run into the bottom of the bar when you try to turn the water on. Bottles and other resources are often not filled or prepared before students arrive, meaning the materials needed to practice are often low or not available as students actually find themselves in need of them. The practice sour mix was made with pinesol, which was just revolting to work with, and it's in a lot of the drinks you'll learn. The textbook has spelling and formatting issues on just about every other page & the instructor has you correcting recipes at the back of the book by hand every single class period, and the "job placement service" is just a private Instagram where he takes screen captures from bars and restaurants around the Baltimore area and re-posts them. Marcus couldn't even print the certificates of completion for my class without there being a noticeable skew to the text. Everything just smacks of not really caring about presentation, which is ironic given the kind of work it's supposed to be preparing you for. I've got an interview later this week for a bar tending position, so we'll see if this actually helps, but in my opinion, this program walks the line between being a scam and not. I took a class like this before when I was living out of state, and I have friends that took the MD bar tending academy class when it was still in business, so I have some experience with what this sort of program should be offering. This isn't bad, but it's just a far cry from what it could, and arguably should, be. Also, Marcus desperately needs to brush his teeth, drink more water, and maybe pop a couple of altoids.

My mom friends and I don't really like the kids being taken in the back of the facility and away from their parents without the option to join or at least access kids during tutoring sessions. I don't mind all that much but it would be nice to at least see your kids in action. The tutoring is top-notch, even during the shutdown, Mathnasium has been relentless in communicating options and alternatives to in-person learning for kids. For the past couple of weeks, they have even offered free online math courses at all grade levels. Definitely a fave!

There is so much to learn from him, both as an educator and as a mentor. This experience also gave me insight into other Kumon Centers, as we frequently visited other centers in the DMV area. I can confidently say that the learning environment, knowledge of the Kumon and school curriculum and overall helpfulness of the staff is unparalleled. I think the biggest testament to the type of environment that is fostered at this center is the desire of the students not only to stay until program completion - but then to return as employees. Many of the graders at this location are former students - which speaks volumes about the close-knit feel of this center.
