Would HIGHLY recommend this tutoring company to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and professional tutor or executive function coach to work with their child. We have used this service for the last two and half years and cannot tell you how much we have benefited from the support of the coaches that have worked with our son. His confidence has improved with his writing, learning how to organize his thoughts better when tackling history and English Language Arts assignments. He's doing more than just the bare minimum, including more descriptive language and details. He's proactively creating outlines while reading to set himself up for success when trying to remember details later for questions or discussions. He's gotten better at self-advocacy, reaching out to teachers via email, when he's unsure of how to tackle an assignment or something isn't working correctly vs. just ignoring the issue. All things he wouldn't dream of doing on his own two years ago. Added bonus is that it has taken some of the pressure off of us, his parents, and the stress it was causing us when "nagging" him about his homework and missing assignments. E and Pete did very well together. E received a 31 on the September ACT. She will take it again in April and use the last 4 study sessions to prepare for it. Great Tutors, Great Staff I have used this company several times to get tutors for my kids and overall have been very happy. We've had three tutors through them for different subject needs/kids as well as test prep. Each tutor has been knowledgeable and highly professional. I've also been impressed by how helpful and prompt the office staff is in responding to our needs. Several years ago before my oldest went to college, she worked with a tutor who I believe was named Pam - a really smart lady who helped her bring her math and chemistry grades up from Cs and Bs to mostly straight As. Not only was that great for college apps, but her confidence went through the roof. After our daughter finished 1st grade this past year, my wife and I had two goals for her going into the summer break. Our first goal was to ensure that she retained all of the great education that she received over the course of the school year. I have been working with Educational Connections for a year and a half, and I absolutely love this tutoring and coaching business. I'm a retired teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools, where I taught special education and English (I have a PhD in English and am certified to teach Special Education K-12). I tutor approximately ten students per week, on average, and really enjoy the relationships I am able to build with them and their families. I work with students of all ages. With Educational Connections, I am part of a very professional business. I have worked for a different tutoring company, and Educational Connections is head and shoulders above this other business. Educational Connections treats its employees with respect. When I call or email, I am given a prompt, courteous, and helpful reply. I have been praised and acknowledged for good work. My salary is more than three times what I made at the previous company. I also applaud Educational Connections for its commitment to its tutors' professional development. It offers training on a regular basis (which counts for certification points, if you are still teaching and need them). I have attended as many workshops as possible and have been very pleased with the quality of both the trainers and material. I was referred to Educational Connections by the nueropsychologist who diagnosed my daughter's dyslexia. I was told by EC staff that the company would work hard to match a tutor with my daughter's needs and personality. We worked with one of their tutors twice a week and after the first week I could see it was not a good match. The tutor talked to my daughter like she was much younger and less intelligent than she is and could not keep her engaged. I talked to EC staff and the tutor directly with some suggestions on how to make the sessions more interesting. Things never got better and my normally easy-going daughter dreaded every session. After 3 months I realized this match wasn't going to work and I asked EC for a rematch. I was surprised when I was told they didn't have anyone else. So after giving me the line of "we work hard to match a tutor with your child's needs and personalities" it actually appears that they just gave me whoever was available. Educational Connections may be fine if you are looking for a tutor for test preparation, but I would never recommend them for a child with dyslexia or other learning disabilities. I spoke with EC staff on the phone to directly voice my frustration, but didn't get anywhere. I also told the nueropsychologist he should think twice before referring kids with dyslexia to EC since that doesn't appear to be their strong suit. read more

I was happy to find a reputable company to tutor my son and enhance his organizational skills. My son was placed with his tutor and after meeting 5 times, the tutor quit and I was provided with no notice or reason from either the tutor or the company. I spoke to the company to try to remedy the situation and they were unable to provide me with any explanation as to why this happened. All the company did was apologize.An apology is nice, but will not help my son learn new skills to improve his academics. I would not expect this from a company of their caliber. I am very disappointed that we were not placed with an exceptional tutor from the start and we were forced to pay for 4 sessions initially with a tutor whom we were unable to meet with first. Perhaps this would have been avoided if we were able to do so from the outset. At these prices ($80/hour!), I feel that more attention should be paid to their clients in ensuring the best possible match and exceptional customer service if something goes awry. I paid $50 outside of the hourly tutoring rate to have them to place my son with this tutor, but feel that he was not placed with the correct match. It seemed more like he was matched as soon as possible without much thought as to his needs. It is possible to get lackluster customer service and an underwhelming tutor for a lot less money. I would not recommend their services nor would I use them in the future. read more

My daughter has struggled with organization and turning in her work on time for years. For the most part, she has continued to do well but this year she has started to struggle a bit academically. After her science teacher called to tell me she failed to turn in a project (which I know she completed) I decided she needed more help than I could provide. On the recommendation of a friend, I called Educational Connections. The staff took time to listen to my concerns and placed us with an awesome coach. After just a couple of sessions my daughter has really connected with her coach and I just received a stellar progress report from her teacher. They only reason I didn't give this company 5 stars was the price. This service was more than I was looking to spend but the quality is exceptional.
