Haven't been on campus very often as I'm not a student, but we had a good experience here for my brother's commencement exercises this year. Also came two years ago for his undergraduate commencement. Very crowded and not the most accessible in terms of event space, Morgan has a rich history both here in Maryland and beyond. Although they can be a bit disorganized, I appreciate their presence here in the city and all the opportunities they have provided for their graduates and staff. read more

This was my 3rd time visiting Morgan. Once to visit a friend, once for a graduation and on this trip a campus tour. Morgan has very beautiful campus. The student body while predominantly black is actually quite diversed. It is not unfounded to see Causcassion, Hispanic and Asian students roaming campus. The school has a very strong academic program with surprisingly small student to teacher ratio where post freshman year class sizes narrow down to about a max of 18 once you've chosen your preferred area of study. On Morgan's campus the "divine nine and sports rule with a heavy hand and are the heart and soul of vibrancy. Morgan Bears gear can be seen through crowds and almost everyone dons gear on a regular. Morgan comes alive for homecoming weekend and while those from out of state initially have a hard time adjusting to the music and culture of Baltimore you'll quickly find yourself falling in love. The people are some of the sweetest. While on the tour students approached us and introduced themselves and were happy to engage,so charming. Big take aways:Morgan is an HBCU, there are plenty of scholarship and work study opportunities. Getting and maintaining good grades has its perks such as preferred housing. It's tucked away enough from the turn up for you to focus on your studies but close enough to major malls, Target, Walmart etc. There are shuttles on campus and for off campus trips. Our neighborhood University. The best part of living in Lauraville/Arcadia is the free evening concerts during the week when the marching band practices. In fifteen years the students, faculty and staff have been courteous and just serious University Students. read more

5/17/14 Been to the campus on many occasion but today's visit was for the 2014 graduation. The campus is very large and beautiful! There is a lot of new construction going on as they expand. The graduation was on the field since it was a gorgeous weather day. The only con to the campus was parking can be a little tough for large events. Many friends have graduated from this prestigious university and many will continue to as this is a great educational institution in Maryland. read more

Went to the open house on 11/3. Registration was simple online and the school did a great job of communicating via text up to and through the ending of the event. I MUST compliment all of the students that were assisting with the event their energy's were REFRESHING & SINCERE. They really had a sense of school pride and were more than happy to point us in the right direction and answer all the questions that a nervous Mom asks preparing to send her 1st born off into college life. I would like to specially acknowledge Zaniya (not sure if I spelled that correct) she was from Patterson, NJ Poli Sci major... this young lady was bubbly, honest, HYPE & welcoming to my daughter and I as we waited in the gym for the open house to begin. Next there was a young lady named Angel who we grabbed trying to locate the student center which she just so happen to be on her way to. She was from PG County a freshman as well Soci major. Angel was more soft spoken but transparent and polite. She was gracious in answering the more personal questions regarding campus life that I grilled her with. The next compliment goes to the admissions lady Unique Bolden, although the room was HOT & dark (someone came to turn the lights of 1/2 way through) she captured her audience, projected her voice was patient with repeating information and knowledgeable about her job. She appeared to be invested in providing the information to the students parents in alumni present during her session. Up next the pleasant woman at the Philly Alumni table Mrs. Fleming. She explained the assistance they provide to students from this area and gave equal attention to both my daughter and I. It was so heartfelt our conversion she spoke life and encouraged my daughter who is the typical indecisive teenage girl. She also invited us to a Spring concert the Morgan choir will be holding in the Philadelphia area. Lastly and I don't remember her name but she provided a tour of the campus she was a senior from PG county as well. I loved this young lady as she did her best in wrangling a large group of visitors speaking articulately while being engaging, although we didn't stay for her whole presentation I enjoyed the information she provided. Now the parts that need some work: our 1st session attended was a presentation by the CASA advisors which from my understanding a program for students who are undecided in there majors. There were 5 presenters. 2 were prepared and on point. The other 3 not so much. The 1st young man rambled for about 20 -25 mins while people interrupted with questions which caused him to repeat information, not provide specific answers to questions or be off topic. There were two other gentlemen one was ok, he tried to be engaging and motivate the student the 3rd one basically read off a paper. The young lady of the group was on point! She knew her stuff! Well spoken she said what was needed and was done. The last gentleman was well prepared used little to no notes and again provided his pitch to the point = done. We shopped at the book store which appeared to be out of a lot of items. I did hear in one of the sessions that the school is in the process of getting a new bookstore that is affiliated with B&N so that's understandable we managed to score AJ a cute shirt on clearance for $15!! SCORE, nice for college shirt day at the high school. The opportunities for food were frustrating so we didn't eat which was something I really wanted my daughter to experience because she is picky. They had 4 options Chick fila (No bueno) with a FOREVER line. Cash soul food cafe again the line was atrocious, so we passed on that. The options provided in the student cafe weren't within my daughters dietary restrictions. The Pizza... ummm as we approached the cafe door all we saw were a sea of people. There was loud music and humidity... again we passed. There are 2 police stations and campus GOLD STAR there. These are REAL POLICE. Baltimore county & Bear (Morgan mascot) police. That eased some of my concerns with being an inner city school. They also have another team of security type individuals that monitor behaviors and patterns on the campus. Overall it was a GREAT experience for my daughter I think the visit was what she needed to push her to get through the rest of her Senior year focused. As an HBCU attendee I am always glad to see positivity. There is always room for growth and development but that is a process, no business is PERFECT. My only recommendation is that they provide a more organized structure for the groups ie the food and campus tours AND provide the students an option to see the dorm room. Maybe take them in groups of 10. This was the 1st school visit my daughter attended in which she wasn't allowed to see the dorms and she was VERY disappointed and checked out and was ready to go at that point. Morgan is absent in so many areas.. they don't inform students about events and academics. I'm an information system major and I haven't received any other information that could be useful for internships or career advancement throughout my time here in Morgan. Morgan is a party school and I find it easy to get distracted. I got acquainted with a few people in the last semester and many told me they weren't really here for education, but more for social life. Morgan's acceptance rate is very high, and I think that plays a factor too. Not many people are really enthusiastic, passionate and competitive with their school work here to me. Overall, if you need a school that takes your career seriously and takes care of its students, I don't recommend Morgan State as the right school for you. read more

I've been to this campus three times and each as been excellent. The first time, I was meeting a friend of mine at the Murphy Fine Arts Center. I parked in the right garage, but I had no clue where I was going. I must have looked puzzled, since a student asked if I need to be pointed in the right direction. The next time I was there, I threw an event in their AMAZING art gallery. This has got to be the most hidden of hidden treasures in Baltimore. I stopped into the engineering school for a meeting yesterday, and as in the first visit, someone helped me locate where my meeting was. What a treat to have such a wonderful school here in Baltimore. read more

I gave this institution the benefit of the doubt despite the many mixed reviews I've heard about it. They lost documents that I sent for my admissions process. Financial Aid / Admissions are very disorganized & misleading. I am VERY on point with what I do and making sure I complete everything that's requested on my end for the admissions process. I don't think the administration in this school is fast enough and gets things done in a time efficient manor. I've literally been in the application process for months and registration is next week and they have not finished my financial aid quote, confirmed my residency, or class availability for transfer students. read more

All I can say is G...H...E...T....T...O! Majority of the teachers are awesome but the other staff members are horribly unprofessional. They will give you the run around and tons of attitude with it. I transferred to another school after a year because of the lack of accurate communication. The economics department is a mess: when you think you are graduating you will find out last minute that you need a class or two more. The bursars office needs to hire new staff for sure. Mrs. Pope in the Bursars office is forgetful, impolite and speaks in an abrasive manner. Morgan has put a horrible taste in my mouth for HBCUs and its quite unfortunate. read more

Came here for graduate school. It wasn't that bad but i think the staff in a lot of the departments need a course in customer service. They are always so rude and not the least bit helpful. They also need more food options on campus. read more

I attended Morgan as both a transfer undergrad and throughout grad school. It's not a bad school... Depending on your major. I was in the architecture program, which is essentially it's own ecosystem within the university, and aside from university-required classes, classes are held all in the same CBEIS building. I'm going to review the college as a whole, rather than just the building I spent most of my time in. People need to understand that when they say the college is not "diverse", it is a prominent HBCU... However, if you actually look around and talk to people, you realize diversity is all over Morgan. People from different backgrounds, countries, cultures, people from all over the United States. Be careful you are not lumping diversity just to a skin color, or your own definition of it because after my 5 years there, I met people from all over and gained so much perspective and knowledge of other cultures. If you are in a program that is particularly strong, then your classes will be pretty good (not necessarily organized, but the experience will be good). That being said, some of the professors and classes at Morgan are a joke. Professors who noticeably don't care about what they're teaching or constantly show up late; professors who poorly teach the required material and still expect you to retain it, etc. My best advice would be to not rely on your advisor to hold your hand through registration and advising processes (look over everything on your own first). There will be times that they'll accidentally "miss" a class you needed, or give you misguided information. This is especially true with the administration/student services, they'll say one thing and mean another and at the end of it all, they'll act like it's your fault because you didn't look into it yourself, but that's common in a lot of colleges. Just be careful. Campus is nice - the ever-growing construction of new buildings gives the college a more premium feel for a historic university, but they really need to spend money on the dorms. They're awful. I advise you to look off campus for your living situation. I commuted my first semester from 45 minutes away, and finally ended up renting an apartment nearby with much better conditions. You'll start to notice that improvements to the campus grounds usually only happen around "event" time... Like graduation or something, but they're still well-kept the rest of the time. The food court is a joke for a school with students living on-campus. I feel bad for y'all because the pickings are slim and sometimes unreliable, so I really hope that can be remedied in the future because the experience would have been a lot better. Especially on my side of the campus where there was absolutely nothing - so you have to walk all the way across campus or drive off campus to get something to eat. Parking. Parking is free for commuters, and $15 for a new pass if you lose yours or get a new car. Please take this into consideration if you're looking to commute. Parking is FREE. Colleges like Towson, etc, charge like $400+ just for a commuter pass. Crime. It's an "urban" school - so yes, there are the consequences of crime here and there. However, people make it out to seem a lot worse than it is. I had signed up for the security text alerts and email alerts and we really didn't get THAT many, especially compared to other colleges. You have to be mindful of your surroundings and what you're doing while walking around, etc. If you make smart decisions, you won't have a problem. I never felt unsafe at Morgan. While Morgan is very unorganized in some aspects, it makes up for it in a lot of other ways. I enjoyed my experiences and time at Morgan despite some of the hiccups and speedbumps along the way. I'd definitely recommend this school for its diverse student body, competitive tuition pricing, and overall experience - just do your research on the dos and don'ts before you decide to settle in. read more

I'm a transfer student to Morgan. For the most part they have been organized and professional however there have been s few instances things weren't. I like the class sizes aren't crazy large it makes it a lot more personable as far as a learning experience goes. The campus is pretty nice and they are redoing and rebuilding a lot of the schools. The main downside is they don't have very much information online as far as different clubs and activities go and I think that's a must considering social media pretty much runs this day in age. read more

I am a student and Morgan state in my junior year since I came here it's been nothing but problems and issues. Whether it's with the food they serve or the revolving maintenance issues that never get solved. Currently I'm housed in a room with a hole in the ceiling thats been leaking water for the past few weeks. Morgan's solution was to come and make the hole bigger and now my room is filled with water and smells of mold and mildew. But the only way to get a solution is to blast them everywhere. They will chase you down for payment but you can never get a solution for student life issues. I wish somebody would have helped me after speaking to the Vice President of student affairs I didn't get a solution after speaking with somebody in public relations I didn't get a solution. And finally I was told by the building maintence professionals that I should just sue the school because they can't and won't fix my problems I want to know how does #Morganstate think this is an acceptable solution. Why do I have stagnant water sitting on my floor stinking up my room and yet nobody is going to solve the problem. It went from a bubble in my ceiling just dripping. And now I just have water flooding out. read more
