Unfortunately, my favorite part of the college was closed for the holiday. When the library I'd open, it's THE BEST! The sections are packed for a variety of study areas and the students are respectful of each other, I also appreciate having unlimited time to focus. The camps is very walkable and lovely. First things first they have terrible communication, it just seems like the staff don't care about helping students. Unprofessional everywhere. The cafe is decent however some of the staff seem to have an attitude when serving food. The food is good most days. Luckily there is coffee for the bad days there. I love coffee and if you don't want a bad drink then avoid autumn. The building itself is clean but could really use some new staff across the board. read more

Very unprofessional Chrombook pickup event. They have people make appointments online and when you get there, they claim the Chromebooks are all gone and then claim having an appointment doesn't really do anything. It was an absolute waste of a trip as I had just spoken to someone on the phone the day before who did not relay that information. The least they could have done was sent an email to let people know so that they do not waste their time and gas traveling there. I sure hope they do not teach their students this unprofessional behavior. This was at the Duncan Hall building. read more

Finding it funny that the previous reviews for this JOKE CC are from many, many years ago. I guess things started going downhill after 2013? This community college is simply put a huge rip off. Also to note the student body whether in person or online is the worst in terms of most not respecting hard working peers and not wanting to learn which is a huge nuisance to those whom want to learn. I don't even know where to begin telling you about our experience over the last 4 years on all levels at this place. WHY go to school if you are an idiot who wants to cheat, have others do your homework and not learn? EXPENSIVE because they nickel and dime you for everything. Terrible student services, they never pick up the phone or reply to emails. Lazy people, put you on hold and never call back or reply. Some people have emergencies and a deadline and cannot drive to the college so they need assistance through the phone, but no. No one is ready to answer, help or do their job. read more

Classes can only rated by professor, this review is on the College itself. I suppose people who have not been to a University or other community colleges have nothing to compare it to, but the administrative side of this school is absolutely horrible. I was beyond surprised. Online services, the website itself, policies... all absolutely abysmal. I got a call from someone in their office, was perfectly polite to them, answered all their questions, tried to ask some questions and was hung up on! I could have sworn it was a spam call especially after the calls abrupt ending. Only after Googling the number did I confirm that it was actually a call from the school. I was going to call their office to report the caller but figured nothing would come of it anyway. Never have I experienced such rudeness whilst speaking to an employee of a school. I'm sure there are worse schools out there, statistically there must be, so I'm giving them a two star rating. I'm coming to this college after attending 4 year schools and one other community college to take a class for work. This experience so far has been the worst and bumpiest. I went there today, I had to pick up a loaner laptop I requested, I was late, that was my fault, and there was an asian lady at the door, I didnt say anything to her, she just sent a police officer to me, I didnt have any weapons on me or look suspicious in any way. I'm starting classes on August 28th this month. My brother used to come here till he transferred to Towson and graduated. He told me how amazing HCC was when he went. The staff were exceptional. The buildings very clean. Spacious areas. Ample parking. Laid back environment. Truly amazing. I registered for classes. Went in the room where you sign up for the placement test, and noticed everybody there was having a good conversation. I came in, and 1 of them immediately helped me. They were very friendly and never acted like I was a nuisance to them, even though I asked many questions. :D Took my placement test. Went back to registration. Then went to the McCuan Hall because they put a hold on my registration. Spoke to Mrs. McNair. Went back to registration. Then went to Financial Aid. Then went to pay the 25 dollar fee to register. This whole time to register, every staff member I have spoken to were exceptionally fantastic. When I spoke to my Advisor, she was SO friendly. Outgoing. And she really treated me like I was important. I spoke to Mrs. McNair and she was so understanding. She knew what was going on in my situation and she really wanted to help. The people at registration were OK, I understand they were super busy with a long line. Then I spoke to a woman nearby the registration office and she told me the classes I wanted were taken and that I needed to choose a different time for the classes. I wasn't happy... But she definitely helped me out and I chose the days that best fit my schedule. She was super friendly and outgoing. And even though I asked many questions, probably stupid questions, she never lost her patience and was always friendly. Every person I spoke to. Didn't matter what race I was. What sex. They all treated me like VIP. read more

I just signed up for a one credit class here and it was worth the money just for the library privileges alone. Beautiful campus. Looks and feels like a "real" college unlike it's sistah in Montgomery. Library gets crowded - it's too small but really nice. With lots of carrels and tables, all (that I can see) with outlets for laptops. (Hooray! Modern times rule!) I believe it was redone about 2 years ago and it was actually done with form = function. It's a beautiful place. HCC has lots of new and probably a few newly renovated buildings and whoever is in charge of design is hip to the fact that the amount of light let in by floor-to-ceiling windows can do so much to lift one's studious, scholarly spirits! The campus restaurant is gorgeous, spacious and well-designed. They make a mean club sandwich and even sell sushi. I repeat - they even sell SUSHI. As in made on the premises by a sushi chef. They also have a Starbucks right on campus. Yes!! Double yes!! I just started my class so I can't give too much of a critique on the academics but so far it has been excellent. All of the instructional and administrative staff (e.g. the people who work in the registration office) have been amazingly friendly and competent. I will do an update on academics once my course has been completed, for those of you who are waiting on the edge of their seats. So far in my life I have been a student at three community colleges (one in Florida, MC and HCC) and three 4 year colleges. I think HCC might have the nicest facilities of all! (P.S. FYI I actually have managed to earn a degree already, just tuning up my skills here at HCC!) read more

One of the nicest colleges I have been to. The campus is very modern with all of the equipment a student looks for. I am a student here so I know these things. The teaching kitchens are very nice now. The nursing program is one of the best on the planet. This campus feels more like a real college then a CC has any right to. It also feels like a part of the Howard county community. The price for tuition is exorbitant, but it is like that anywhere these days. read more

I love this college. If you are disabled student you can get in the waived but having the office assistant security fill out a waiver form. And then you just take it back to the office of registration and they credit your account and it pays for your tuition. One drawback is if you file for your student federal aid they will take the majority of it in the rest of it goes on to the Social Security. But all else is good they really care to people who have disabilities and they help you out with your classes and all that you need. The college is not hard at all. I went to grab breakfast at the cafe on the quad before my 100 minute class. I always get the breakfast plate (aka. 2 eggs over easy with cheese, 2 sausage patties, 2 slices of white toast with butter, and tater tots. But I decided to switch it up today, and I'm so glad I did. I got pancakes (they give you two) and hot spiced apples. OMG. Pancakes are a solid 9.5/10 -- and that's without syrup or butter or any toppings. They are light and fluffy and perfectly golden. The edges are a little crisp, which I love. The only way they could get that extra .5 is if the edges were a little more crisp, but again, that's just my preference. read more

This is one of the better community colleges! Professors are fantastic! Staff is just as amazing! Students are even great! If you don't get along with most fellow students, it must be you. Best nursing school in the country! New science building! A new bakery added back in 2012! I think this is the best community college in Maryland. The new renovations and buildings are a great addition to this campus. Not to mention the new FREE parking garage!! One of the better community colleges in Maryland. The campus is clean & nice. There is a lot of parking available. I actually prefered to go here even though I live out of howard county. I already graduated from a university but I am taking some prerequisites for graduate school from this school since it is much cheaper than getting the classes from a university. My father graduated from the nursing program from this school as well. The teachers that I had were kind, fair, & helpful. However, I cannot speak for all of the teachers since I had only a few. I mean, it's a community college. I took classes here during my senior year of high school and on winter/summer breaks to stay busy. The professors treat you like you're retarded. I absolutely hate being talked down to, so that was a big problem for me. In one of my classes the professor spend an hour on how to write a paper....if you're in college and don't know how to write an introduction, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion then you have some issues. That specific course was a 200 level. I could understand reviewing in a 100 level class, but not a 200. Most of the classes are pretty easy (but I guess that depends on the student too), so it's good for taking breadth requirements or any pre-requisites. read more

The financial aid department is one of the worst I have ever experienced. I enrolled to take courses to start a new career and applied for financial aid. It is mid November and I have yet to receive my aid. Instead of the department letting me know whenever there was a problem or additional information they needed. I had to constantly go into the department because the website updates were slow. They would say they had everything, only to discover that they needed something else. I transferred from another college and had absolutely no problems. Why now am I having severe problems with receiving aid. Absolutely horrible service in this department. read more
