When a student asks for further instruction or explanation, most are clueless, because the material is above their heads. Thus, you pay them and teach yourself. There are a few who are dedicated and knowledgeable but these are far and few in between. Some are just looking for an extra paycheck and have a buddy system who will punch their time clock when not in attendance, either by arriving late or leaving early. This is commonly known as stealing time and a fire able offense. It would be easy for administration to discipline if this was an uncommon problem, but here it seems to be like a disease, and they would lose too many staff. This poor quality training seems to be the norm these days. There may be a difference between day and night instructors. More eyes are watching during the day classes, whereas the night classes are lacking professionalism. I'm hopeful that things will change before it is too late for me. Goodluck.

As you approach it on Chestnut, you almost thinking you are driving down a quaint residential street, but given the size of this place, you soon realize that this is a sprawling campus. We park the back, and that lot needs some work. There is a HUGE pothole as you pull into the unpaved lot. Railroad timbers separate the parking zones on the unpaved lot. The pool looks nice, but it isn't open when we are there. The gym where the Futsal takes place is spacious, with 4 fields of play at once. There is a running track above the gym floor on a balcony level.

Most importantly for my wife and I was to find a school where our 2-1/2 year-old would be happy, learn social skills, and would learn the fundamental skills needed to function in a classroom setting (preparation for kindergarten). It was also critical that we find a place where we would never feel guilty or apprehensive about dropping our kids off at school. We found all this and more at Hilltop. The most important things to note about Hilltop are... Small School - There are two classrooms and each one has a max of roughly 15 children. Small classes means lots of one-on-one interaction with the teachers, which any educator will tell you is extremely beneficial (especially for young children). Learning Activities - It is a school after all - so it's pretty important that they follow a really well-conceived philosophy and educational curriculum. Every day we receive notes from the teacher about what our child learned that day, sample assignments he worked on, etc. Low Staff Turnover - At other schools and daycares we've witnessed a constant churn of teacher turnover. The teachers at Hilltop have been there for years and are part of the fabric of the school. Family Atmosphere - So many families have their 2nd or 3rd children enrolled, so we've gotten to know each other and have formed great friendships. When I drop my son at Hilltop it feels like I'm leaving him with close friends/family. Credentials - Hilltop is accredited by the MD Board of Education and each teacher and staff member has all their MD creds (I'm not that familiar with all the credentials, so you'd have to check with them for more info on this). Secluded Location - While the school is right off Rt 108 in Clarksville (near the River Hill shopping center) it's also tucked away behind a Methodist church. Its location is nice for security reasons - and there's also something nice about being on a church campus. What more can I say? We are a Hilltop family and absolutely recommend this preschool to anyone trying to make the difficult decision of where to send your child for preschool.

Its location is amazing, after school you can walk over to walgreens, mcdonalds, and/or five guys and make it back to your bus in time. The Primes/Magnets are phenomenal. With Culinary bringing us cafe, Dance & Vocal bringing us shows, Carpentry building us items, Visual Arts bringing us beauty, I.T. making us programs, & Cosmetology doing our hair we create the best school possible. Upon returning home, she showed me her hair and almost her entire braid was pulled out. I called the daycare immediately at 6:15pm and spoke to the director who stated "I don't know what happened. No one told me anything. ." This is the fifth incident in a year where my child has been a victim of neglect where someone either didn't know what happened or even it when it was too late. Once she ingested fish which she is allergic to, the second someone bit her finger, the third someone pulled dirt all over her to the point that she looked gray when I picked her up. At no instance was medical attention sought and I was notified either a day later, that evening upon pick up or not at all. In one instance the assistant director told me she called with an incident but my voicemail immediately came one. Way prior to that time I told them I worked as a therapist and I had to devices to be reached at and they had both numbers at the time of this incident. When asked why she didn't try the other number, she denied having it. However, upon pick up that evening she provided me with the sheet I filled out at the time of my daughter's registration, which had both numbers, to confirm the numbers on file. At which time I stated, I thought you only had one number to which she apologized. One time I went to get my child from the playground and no one could find her! Today was my last straw. I'm a single mom and full time business owner and depend on daycare for childcare. Despite the neglect, numerous times they've closed early, opened late or closed her classroom completely with little to no notice. I believe the center is too overpopulated for the current staff which leads to neglect and lack of care. They are allowing a child with severe behavioral issues to run rampant on the 3 year old room with no action being done. The director basically told me that my child, who's black, can leave. But the little boy, who's white can stay with no repercussions. He has autism and behavioral issues and needs to be in an inclusion center but nothing is being done.
