My children attend public school but hehehe we get around... @Gilman, we spent the day learning stuff!! My son cherishes a key tag he learned how to make using laser cutting. He also learned yet another way to program an EV3 robot and built a reusable rocket (mom, I'm tired of EV3, I wanna learn programming for another robot). My daughter learned how to make natural dyes and both son and daughter learned how to make reusable rockets (the toy kind). On my end, I learned how to foster critical thinking with my children and how progressive schools are adapting to changing needs of learners. If you are seeking diverse perspectives on education, I highly recommend!

When…read moreit is shadow day for all of the new students, the school makes it look like such a great school with tons of plans of expanding the campus (which they did remodel the upper school). You are FORCED AND REQUIRED to wear a mask all day indoors. There is proof that masks don't even work for stopping the spread of covid-19. I've been warned multiple times for the smallest jokes ever that were not in the middle of when a teacher was talking. In conclusion; this school is a waste of time and money, the only reason I give it two stars is because of the athletic opportunity's you get at this school.

This is a strong school academically, and your kid(s) will be challenged no matter what grade. We have been here for over four years and have no thoughts or concerns about changing schools. There is a sense of pride in the teachers and it's fascinating to see where your kid is in the beginning of the year, and how far they have come at the end. We have had both of our kids at Govans for one full school year, in the PreK class and the 2s…read moreclass. We moved to town a year ago and were lucky to find this great preschool! Both of our kids settled in well, were cared for, challenged, and more. They are play-based as a school, especially for the younger ages, and spend a lot of time doing play, music, crafts, etc. And our son in PreK made excellent progress on "academic" curriculum as well -- Spanish, sight words, writing, math, etc. In addition, the teachers and admins make investments in their character development -- learning to be empathetic, kind to others, etc. They've also been very easy-going in terms of scheduling the care we need for the kids. They are willing to work with part-time schedules, and you can take weeks "off" from preschool/childcare during the Summer for vacations without having to pay for the spot. We've been very pleased and would recommend this preschool to other parents without hesitation.

Its location is amazing, after school you can walk over to walgreens, mcdonalds, and/or five guys and make it back to your bus in time. The Primes/Magnets are phenomenal. I can't imagine there's a better preschool in the Clarksville/Columbia area. Obviously every…read moreparent has their own list of "wants" and "needs" when shopping preschools - their own list of the features that are most important to them. Most importantly for my wife and I was to find a school where our 2-1/2 year-old would be happy, learn social skills, and would learn the fundamental skills needed to function in a classroom setting (preparation for kindergarten). It was also critical that we find a place where we would never feel guilty or apprehensive about dropping our kids off at school. We found all this and more at Hilltop. The most important things to note about Hilltop are... Small School - There are two classrooms and each one has a max of roughly 15 children. Small classes means lots of one-on-one interaction with the teachers, which any educator will tell you is extremely beneficial (especially for young children). Learning Activities - It is a school after all - so it's pretty important that they follow a really well-conceived philosophy and educational curriculum. Every day we receive notes from the teacher about what our child learned that day, sample assignments he worked on, etc. Low Staff Turnover - At other schools and daycares we've witnessed a constant churn of teacher turnover. The teachers at Hilltop have been there for years and are part of the fabric of the school. Family Atmosphere - So many families have their 2nd or 3rd children enrolled, so we've gotten to know each other and have formed great friendships. When I drop my son at Hilltop it feels like I'm leaving him with close friends/family. Credentials - Hilltop is accredited by the MD Board of Education and each teacher and staff member has all their MD creds (I'm not that familiar with all the credentials, so you'd have to check with them for more info on this). Secluded Location - While the school is right off Rt 108 in Clarksville (near the River Hill shopping center) it's also tucked away behind a Methodist church. Its location is nice for security reasons - and there's also something nice about being on a church campus. What more can I say? We are a Hilltop family and absolutely recommend this preschool to anyone trying to make the difficult decision of where to send your child for preschool.
