This business is not just a job for me -- it is the only source of income I have to support my two sons. I fought for custody and now raise them five days a week until they reach college. Everything I do is for them. Even with all the hard work I put in, I have never felt supported or respected by your school. Almost every day, I feel judged by the looks I get from the cars leaving your property. Instead of seeing a hardworking father providing for his children, it feels like I am viewed as a problem. What hurt the most was receiving a letter from the Health Department at my home with no communication from the school. That moment felt like an attack on the very thing that feeds my family. It created stress and confusion in a home I work hard to keep stable. Your school speaks a lot about brotherhood, but brotherhood is more than a word. Brotherhood is supposed to show in actions -- compassion, respect, and support for the people around you. From my experience, I have felt the opposite. The contradiction with the word brotherhood Your school uses the word brotherhood as one of its main values. You speak it, promote it, and teach it. But what I have experienced does not match that message at all. Brotherhood means standing with people, not looking down on them. Brotherhood means treating others with respect, especially the ones trying to raise their kids and keep food on the table. Brotherhood means seeing the human being behind the business, not treating them like they do not matter. What I have seen is the opposite: * I work every day to support my sons, yet I feel judged by the cars leaving your school. That is not brotherhood. That is dismissal. * I serve families from your school, but I never receive acknowledgement or appreciation. That is not brotherhood. That is selective respect. * I received a Health Department letter without warning or communication, putting my business at risk. That is not brotherhood. That is harm. * Your students see how the school treats someone working honestly right outside the building. That teaches them to ignore struggle instead of understanding it. A message like brotherhood should not be a slogan. It should be lived. It should be shown through action, compassion, and fair treatment. When a school claims brotherhood but makes a hardworking father feel unwelcome, it sends a painful message -- that the word is just marketing, not truth. I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for the values you claim to stand on to match the way people in your community are treated. How your actions have affected me * I felt judged, unwelcome, and overlooked by families and staff leaving your campus. * My business was put at risk without any direct communication or warning. * My sons felt the impact of the stress your actions caused. * I lost trust in a school that seems disconnected from the community it sits in. Why this matters * My business is the only income my family depends on When anything threatens it, the impact hits my home immediately. My sons feel it. I feel it. This stand is how I keep food on the table and stability in their lives. * Respect should move both ways in a community Your school has power and influence. With that comes responsibility. A community works best when institutions treat the people around them with fairness and kindness. * A school should lift its community, not make people feel invisible No one working honestly to support their family should feel like they do not belong. When a school overlooks or dismisses someone, it sends a hurtful message. * Students learn from what they see every day If students see their school ignoring a hardworking father in the community, that becomes the real lesson. What they witness outside the classroom speaks louder than anything written in a handbook. I stand outside in the heat, cold, and rain to take care of my boys. I work honestly, respectfully, and with pride. All I want is to be treated with the same respect that I show others. A school built on the idea of brotherhood should understand the importance of lifting up the people around it, especially those trying to keep their families steady. I hope this letter makes the school reflect on the impact of its actions. I hope it encourages better treatment of community members and a stronger understanding of what brotherhood truly means. I am asking for acknowledgment, understanding, and a commitment that no future actions will harm my business or my ability to support my sons. My two kids attend school here. They are in 3rd and 1st grades and have both been there since…read moreKindergarten. They are two very different types of kids. My now-3rd grader was at first a reluctant reader and his reading didn't really click until the middle of first grade. This was a little slower than many other kids in his class but his teachers continued to meet him where he was to guide him forward. This was the right move because he would have been turned off if he felt that there was too much pressure - it proves that the teachers really got to know my specific child and how he ticks. Now that he is in third grade he is reading at a mid-fourth grade level and absolutely devouring all books. I am so glad that he wasn't pushed too hard in Kindergarten because he has now developed a genuine love of reading. My 1st grader, on the other hand, was reading by the third week of Kindergarten. Her teacher has provided her lots of opportunities to extend her learning, and is able to really capably meet a huge range of learning levels in the classroom. She will sometimes meet with a reading group made up of kids from across the three first grade classrooms who are all working on reading comprehension skills for chapter books. I am so grateful that Creative City customized the teaching approach to meet the very different needs of each of my children. I use reading as an example because my two kids couldn't be more different, but the school is meeting their needs in many other ways as well. The arts integrated curriculum, for instance, is really nurturing artistic skills development in each of them and they are both developing into wonderful artists.

There are really too many things to list, but I'll try to. First, arts are at the core of learning at this school. The arts are used as a tool for teaching and evaluating students' work. The school also ensures there's recess everyday which is so important at this age! I absolutely love the community of families, teachers and staff. We are always welcome in the school. The day starts with a community breakfast in which all classes eat together, hear morning announcements and say the school pledge. Parents are encouraged to be a part of that. The class sizes are small, which is great for students to get specialized attention. And there's no boring worksheets. Kids learn in ways that are meaningful and fun. I can't say enough great things!

We have had both of our kids at Govans for one full school year, in the PreK class and the 2s…read moreclass. We moved to town a year ago and were lucky to find this great preschool! Both of our kids settled in well, were cared for, challenged, and more. They are play-based as a school, especially for the younger ages, and spend a lot of time doing play, music, crafts, etc. And our son in PreK made excellent progress on "academic" curriculum as well -- Spanish, sight words, writing, math, etc. In addition, the teachers and admins make investments in their character development -- learning to be empathetic, kind to others, etc. They've also been very easy-going in terms of scheduling the care we need for the kids. They are willing to work with part-time schedules, and you can take weeks "off" from preschool/childcare during the Summer for vacations without having to pay for the spot. We've been very pleased and would recommend this preschool to other parents without hesitation.

The Community School only has 1 teacher who got his teaching license by completing 4 years of…read morecollege in 1 year Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 are mandatory classes to graduate high school, yet The Community School doesn't teach either course. There is a ton of work yet it's all busy work, not work that is needed. The head teacher and founder, Tom, has only one interest, and it's getting access to presenters to come to the school and receive donations. I wouldn't recommend The Community School. You are not allowed to miss school due to being sick or even surgery. My son had to have life saving surgery and due to him having surgery he was treated terribly. Tom would say mean things to my son everyday in front of the whole class. Tom called him names. Tom put him down. Tom didn't allow him help from his brother with getting things and picking things up. He even forced their seats apart so his brother couldn't help him. My son was not able to pick up more than 5 lbs or bend and twist for 6 weeks after surgery. My son sat in class every day in pain as his teacher made him feel like he was worthless. Then, Tom kicked my son out of the school because I as his mom called and told him not to talk or treat my child like that. My son wouldn't of went back this year but to kick a kid out because you can't treat him like dirt and get away with it. After my phone call, Tom chose to stop speaking to my son all together and ignore him. My other son graduated this year and his 4 years at this school wasn't good either. He had to teach his self algebra, have a tutor for calculus and took college courses plus self taught his self because Tom chose to use him as a junior staff member instead of letting him graduate a year early when he had already been through every course he was learning for a second time.
