Twin Orchards Nursery is a hidden gem for both serious and casual gardeners and landscapers…read more Their nursery is located on nearly 3 acres in a residential area of Shorewood (near Lake Minnetonka). The owners and operators are Alan and Jerod, who are experts in their craft, but also very down-to-earth. They have been in business for more than 30 years. While the great bulk of their revenue comes from their commercial clients, they opened to the retail public several years ago. It amazes me how passionate they are to serve and educate the public. In other words, they don't view the individual retail buyers (like me) as "small fish", or as a nuisance. They simply have a great passion for plants, and they want to pass along that passion. The selection of perennials is the best I have seen in the Twin Cities (550 different varieites). Think of it as Bachman's multiplied by a factor of 5 (or more) -- while having prices that are more affordable than Bachman's. The health and quality of their plants is outstanding. A typical 1-gallon perennial plant goes for about $10 right now. While that may be a few dollars more than Home Depot or Lowe's, keep in mind you are gaining access to varieties of perennials that you won't find at those stores. Plus, you are getting fuller, more developed, healthier plants. Beyond their expansive selection of perennials, Twin Orchards also sells a fine selection of flowering shrubs, herbs, and vegetables. Twin Orchards maintains an excellent website and Facebook page. They offer an annual catalog on their website, and they also maintain a plant availability spreadsheet online that is updated throughout the season. * I should mention that I have zero relation to the team at Twin Orchards. I am just a very satisfied customer.

I have been coming here for years and love their selection of annuals, perennials, vegetables, unique garden accessories and GORGEOUS baskets. They do a great job of creating really full, lush baskets and containers that make the grocery store variety look like it just came out of a hail storm. Yes, they are a little more expensive than Home Depot or some other larger stores, but it's worth it. Their plants are healthy, full and simply high quality. They have also started doing winter arrangements and they were a one stop shop for my Christmas decor last year. They really have some creative and inspiring ideas and are ahead of the trends. Nikki, the manager has some of the best customer service I have seen. She is friendly to everyone, and is very knowledable about anything and everything green. Their team is more than happy to help you pick out something that would make your neighbors green with envy. They also have a greenhouse in Shakopee which has an enormous selection. http://www.yelp.com/biz/sailers-greenhouse-shakopee. It is at a busier cross section so be sure to watch before you cross! I wanted to make a pit stop to check out Mother Earth Gardens, what started as a quick stop, has me excited to come back again when I have more time! I wasn't expecting the community collaboration that showcased local vendors and information about them which I loved dearly. The plants were placed in a manner that was fun to browse and find, and the pricing was fair. What made me really see this place stand out was the service I received from start to finish. I was warmly greeted, the door was opened for me and I was asked right away if there was anything I needed help with. In addition, they included that any question is welcomed and not to be afraid to ask. No matter if you're a beginner or an expert in the plant community, there's so much to learn and feeling the welcoming environment made it so much more enjoyable to browse and shop. If you're thinking of stopping in, I would recommend it!

Can't believe any lower rating…read more Yes it's small BUT it carries a very wide selection of "Ace Hardware type" store Clear sinage of there's a friendly cat inside. I love cats so this was right up my alley, but I guess if you were allergic/didn't care for you would want to know this. Yes, Kitty was as friendly and lovable, as could be I was on a mission for potting soil, which was reasonable for the small quantity I needed and then my new addiction for birds and squirrels. I looked over in the pet supply area and there was a nice selection and I found my two suets ($1.19) and two pine cones because I was going to do a DIY birdfeeder. Those were $1.59 which saved me a tracking trip to find on the side of the road. The lady and gentlemen were friendly and it was a very cute place that you could possibly find more than one thing you wanted to buy or needed. I always look for after holiday sales as that's my hunt that I do and didn't see anything. I would definitely stop in if I needed that Ace Hardware item as it's close to me and it's a local business

Each kind was wrapped together with some twine. The lilies had really good root structure and nice green tops. Only a bit of yellowing, but nothing an experienced gardener would worry about. These were in great condition. Online ordering was easy using their paypal cart. Their prices are highly reasonable. Including their $12.50 shipping, which delivers them next day (after they are dug up). I received an email from Mandy who let me know when they would be digging them up for me. They have so many choices, it is hard not to find something you'll like. I've been slowly replacing all my traditional orange lilies and Garfield Gardens has got me on my way. They even sent me a bonus daylily! Can't wait to see them grow.
