My sunroom with cacti and succulents. If you zoom in near the window, you can see some of them. I need help and Scott sounds like the guy.

I did finally get out to meet with Scott at the Fractal Cactus. It was great. At first I had my dog with me as she goes everywhere I go, but not in the store! It is filled from floor to ceiling with the coolest stuff, that I've seen in one collection, in person. I'm done buying online the little things that are there. I can buy large cacti and succulents and not have to watch them grow from 2 inches tall. I'm 67 and I don't have, wait I'm 68 and I don't buy green bananas! So let's get the big ones and I don't have to wait for them to grow they're already big. Now, talking about Scott. Wow! He is so informative, and he just goes off telling you great information! And I do a lot of reading, and he validated a lot of the stuff that I believed, and taught me how much I didn't know. Not intentionally but wow this guy knows his stuff. And he is more than willing to help. I will include some photos of his store and one or two that I bought.

With that being said, I finally made a visit here Sunday late afternoon on a whim. I started outside before heading inside to see all the other plants and things. Quite the selection inside and outside. I purchased my first hanging basket ever. I'm such a flower person and the hanging basket I got was so pretty. Inside has many different things from bird feeders to nick knacks to pots and candles and many different types of plants. It's well set up and I witnessed staff answering customers questions and offering their assistance. Cost wise I would say everything is fairly priced and some of the plants are so unique that it's a given you need to pay for something like that. Staff I engaged with were nice. Parking is street parking but there's plenty so not stressful. When it's time for me to look for a plant, I'll have to come back.

Regretfully I didn't go inside to check out the goods, but outside... there was an abundance of flowers, herbs, succulents, plants, small decor and others. Signage for price, clearance (in the back towards alley), and shaded plants were clearly marked. I appreciate that while the staff was kind, they weren't overbearing and allowed you to shop and your pace. I ended up needing advice and found someone who was very helpful. They have shopping carts (I didn't notice baskets), but the space is so tight, I didn't bother using one. As for parking, it's just street parking but I was able to find a spot on the parkway. Anyway, I've passed by so many times and don't know why it took so long to stop in, but glad I finally did.

They are open by appointment only. Schedule your appointment via Instagram @thegreenerympls I made my appointment to get a house warming plant for a friend. It was awesome because they already had a few suggestions for me when I arrived to my appointment! There are plenty of plants to choose from and I chose a hanging plant (not sure of the name) it came out to $27. They also have a variety of care products like shine spray and even some home products like candles! From the little I know of plants, they seem to have the basics of house plants covered! From tiny cacti, fiddle leaf, snake plant, and rubber plants! Will definitely continue to purchase my house plants here! COVID-19 Notes: like I mentioned, appointment only! When I was shopping, a couple of people tried to come in and browse but they were turned away. The owners daughter was the one working and she was also wearing a mask!

We scored a pretty healthy garden croton in a beautiful concrete pot for $44! We were expecting it to be close to $100. The staff was super helpful and friendly as well. They had an employee who makes terrariums and when she heard we had a fiddle leaf fig at home, she gave us a ton of good advice about caring for it. The terrariums they had for sale were great too, they had the cutest bamboo plant with little panda figurines in it that would make such a nice gift. The only thing to keep in mind is that we've had a ton of little gnats in our apartment since we brought the new plant in, so be prepared for some gnat-control. Regardless, I will definitely be back for some hanging planters and to support this amazing Native Woman owned local business :D

Their yard has space so you can pull in, there is always parking, you can walk right into the office and there is almost never a line. They once even helped me track down a special kind of apple tree when I was lamenting to them how I couldn't find one. They always have great customer service. The first time, I went into the office and was greeted with bemused confusion from the employees there. They had to wander the yard to find the person who was supposed to help customers, who greeted me with "we're closed." "I'm pretty sure you were open when we started looking for you." Reluctantly and with barely concealed exasperation, he instructed me in how to fill a customer-provided bag. I figured that negative experience was probably just because I'd unwittingly showed up right at closing time. (Apple Maps had the wrong hours. Oops!) Frustration is understandable. Maybe they'd had a long day. I figured I'd give the place a second chance. This time, I went to fill my bag as instructed last time, and the same guy came out to chastise me for not coming to the office first -- the same office where I'd been met with confusion the time before. He was, if it's even possible, even more of a passive-aggressive jerk this time around. ("You might consider a sign to help people know what to do...." "There's a big sign there that says 'Office.'" Thanks, dude.) The cheeky good humor of their web site was nowhere in sight. I left disappointed and ticked off. I truly feel for folks working in customer service. Been there. Customers show up, wanting unreasonable things, doing things wrong, always needing our hands held. It's so frustrating! But the fact is that the cornerstone of customer service is making unfamiliar and disoriented people feel welcome. Hiawatha Supply failed at that job. It's possible that this is a great place for landscaping contractors placing large orders. But for us regular folks just working on our gardens, I suggest going elsewhere -- somewhere we're actually welcome. I don't care to go back, and I have no doubt from the staff's behavior that the feeling is mutual.
