They are also very picky about what you can use store credit for on the few items that are covered under their guarantees. I have a really hard time finding what I need due to the compact layout and lack of much signage. Employees are usually friendly and helpful but it can be hard to find one who is available. Even though it's a much longer drive, I usually go to Bachmann's instead to spend less and enjoy an easier experience plus worry-free guarantees.

Bachman's is huge and has a large collection of plants and.gardening supplies. In many ways its size is a liability as it is difficult to find what you are looking for and often the staff are not knowledgeable. Wagner's on the other hand is smaller. They don't have as much stock but in general their staff are reasonably well Informed. Sunnyside Gardens is a nice compromise in size. The quality of their merchandise is excellent and their staff are accessible and seem knowledgeable. They are easy to reach and there is lots of nearby parking. I highly recommend.

This time, I went to fill my bag as instructed last time, and the same guy came out to chastise me for not coming to the office first -- the same office where I'd been met with confusion the time before. He was, if it's even possible, even more of a passive-aggressive jerk this time around. ("You might consider a sign to help people know what to do...." "There's a big sign there that says 'Office.'" Thanks, dude.) The cheeky good humor of their web site was nowhere in sight. I left disappointed and ticked off. I truly feel for folks working in customer service. Been there. Customers show up, wanting unreasonable things, doing things wrong, always needing our hands held. It's so frustrating! But the fact is that the cornerstone of customer service is making unfamiliar and disoriented people feel welcome. Hiawatha Supply failed at that job. It's possible that this is a great place for landscaping contractors placing large orders. But for us regular folks just working on our gardens, I suggest going elsewhere -- somewhere we're actually welcome. This time I was invited by a friend who told me they were having a holiday night market on 12/11 from 4pm-9pm. I was immediately yes! I arrived and immediately fell in love with the cozy Christmas and winter set up. It was like walking into a mini Christmas village. There were plenty of local vendors selling everything from art crafts, to bread and food sample kits. Santa Claus along with his pet was there ready for photo ops. This is an annual event at Tangletown Gardens, but I definitely recommend it next year if there have the holiday market. Good holiday gifts to get for loved ones.
