Went here about a month ago to get a new pair of glasses. I had my prescription in hand with insurance, and was told that I can only get what was given to me by my insurance company. I was absolutely willing to pay for extras such as thinning the lens, anti glare etc,which is totally understandable, but I was refused and said I can't pay CASH for any upgrades to my glasses since it's not what insurance covers. This made no sense to me at all and the employee was not even friendly about it at all, so I took my business elsewhere the same day and got EXACTLY what I needed, used my insurance, and paid in cash for the upgrades that I wanted. Please have nicer people working there that know about insurance. I will not be coming here again and neither will my family read more

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews. With the person who came from Brooklyn, maybe call first to let them know you're on the way?? I went in and it was bustling with people waiting to be seen or trying on frames. When I went in, I made sure that they did take my insurance, which was vsp. Everything was explained thoroughly to me so that I knew what I was covered for. It's great that they didn't try to over sell me. So I decided to get frames and I couldn't decide so I ended up over analyzing each frame. But they were super patient with me and only gave their opinion when asked. I ended up choosing Burberry frames and the frames were only $40 with my insurance plan. The lenses were a different story. Anyways, they gave me a time frame when everything will be done, and I'm hoping that everything comes out great. read more

I have been here two times and my friend has been here too. Two words: Very tricky. They just add things (like the so-called 'one year warranty' WITHOUT asking you first, and they make double charges for lenses. I only noticed it after my insurance company sent me the itemized EOB and went back to ask them why I was overcharged. Their attitude was just 'ok so what do want?' Oh and did I mention they purposefully DO NOT give you the prescriptions so that if you don't think about it, you'll automatically pick up glasses from them. Btw it is ILLEGAL not to give prescriptions to the patient, even when the patient does not actively ask for it. I will report this malpractice. read more

I have been a happy customer of this store for years. However, the manager (Boris) left recently and the store is now manged by the owner, who is the last person with whom you want to have any interaction. He is there only a couple of days a week and if you happen to walk in the store when he is not present there is not a real competent person who can help you. What is worse is that you do not want to be helped by him in the first place. He has no understanding of what it means to handle a customer in such manner to ensure he/she will come back, and is more concerned with making a buck than keeping a customer. And we all know that if we need glasses or contact lenses that is not a one time deal, that is a lifetime deal. I have only horrible words to say about any and all aspects of how he treats customers, or what this store has become; and since I do not want to name any of those words, my recommendation is to stay away from this outfit. If you are looking for a place where to build a relationship this is not the place, not anymore. If you are a person with a complex eye prescription that may land itself to having lenses done over (which are covered by a warranty and cost nothing to the store) chances are that he will not do them over, will try to convince you that you are complaining about nothing, and you will have to fight for your right and the correct lenses to be made. And even then, good luck with it. I could go on, but hopefully I have already conveyed the overarching message: stay away from a place that once good in now discouragingly disappointing. read more

The doctor that did my eye exam was really nice, first off. That's about the only nice thing I can say about this location. As I was getting my information getting taken down, the manager was very curt. This I absolutely don't mind, maybe they were busy, having a hard day etc. I then see an older gentleman talking to one of the girls there. The one he was talking to was very understanding and nice about his questions. The girl at the receptionists desk started looking and staring at them and did a 'turning finger at the side of your head' signaling that he was crazy. 1) amongst other things that's UNPROFESSIONAL. 2.) PLAIN RUDE. I finish the exam and the manager tells me to look at glasses and try them on. So I did just that, and followed the health and safety procedures they had because of Covid. I then go to him and say that I plan to buy frames somewhere else. He goes "Huh?" I repeat what I said and he rolls his eyes at me REPEATING WHAT I HAD JUST SAID CONDESCENDINGLY and walks away. He sits at his desk, skimming and flipping over my papers, and scolds me. "You know we only make money if you buy from us right? Next time buy from us, or what? You'll be calling Mr. Amazon?" The brand of glasses they had? Versace, Burberry, Gucci, Prada, etc. you catch my drift. This is none of anybody's business but who are you to assume that I could easily drop $300 for 1 pair of glasses when I could get 3 for 120??? How about MY financial standing? Did it go through you mind that maybe, just maybe, I didn't have the money to spend on anything else but the exam, which I NEED. I don't need designer brand glasses (which is all that you have) I just need to see. I pay for my exam, costing $85, cool. The manager AGAIN walks away from me. What am I missing? My actual prescription and receipt. Y'all know what this man tells me? "Oh you want your prescription? You didn't tell me. How am I supposed to know you wanted it." SIR, SOME COMMON SENSE. I paid, told you I was here for my prescription, and that I was not getting glasses from here. Have you forgotten how to think critically, use context clues or just be a good employee who takes the initiative to care for your customers? Of course I want my dang prescription and receipt, how else would I get my glasses or contacts? Pull them out of where? You tell me. Another older man walks in the store asking for information about how to make an appointment for his wife. This man all but yells at him. The gentleman had a very thick accent. AGAIN, did you not think that maybe he couldn't understand you 100%? You live in Queens man. I got what I needed, but dang, it was hell to get there. Some of the employees there are so out of touch. I went in for new glasses. The doctor on duty (during weekdays) completely mis-prescribed my lens script. When the glasses were done, I tried them on and it was like looking through a kaleidoscope with trailing shadows. When I would not accept the glasses, the doctor went nuts. She insisted the script was correct. I asked for a refund of my $700. She told me they "don't do refunds." She wanted me to go to another optometrist to confirm her script. What? Why would I go see another doctor to confirm your incompetence? I refused the glasses and left. The next day I called the owner to get a refund. Again, "we don't do refunds, and by the way, you were rude to my staff and I don't have to service you." Really? Rude? Not accepting glasses that make me blind is rude? After 20 minutes of battling him, we agreed that I would go back into the store and see the "other" doctor there on the weekends. And, what do you think happened? She reviewed the script, did another examination, and wrote a new script. Guess what? I went back into the store for the new glasses with the new script and it was perfect. Absolutely perfect. That's all I wanted but had to go through hell to get it. I did leave 1 star because the 2nd doctor was wonderful. The rest of the staff are incompetent and the owner will bully you into accepting blinding glasses if you don't demand quality and what you paid for. read more

Staff was not wearing masks as I walked in for my appointment. When they pulled up their masks and I informed them that Covid stays in the air for several hours, the guy responded, "It's OK." I said, it's not, actually, and cancelled my appointment. This is ridiculous. It's a doctor's office! Too bad I never got to meet the optometrist, Linxi Zhao. Previously, I had gotten the best glasses I have ever had from here. Apparently, I should have checked here first to see that Boris is not here anymore. I went there today to meet with the optomologist, having been told he would be there this afternoon. He was not, so I picked up my glasses that were either made wrong or the optometrist here generated a wrong prescription, and I will pay out of pocket to get them re-done elsewhere. How bad is the prescription? The left lens is perfect, but the right lens is WORSE THAN NO GLASSES AT ALL. HORRIBLE. DO NOT COME HERE! read more

Upon paying my gasp-inducing bill for an eye exam and glasses, and then reviewing my invoice and insurance coverage, I've decided that I was swindled by Pearle Vision. To be clear, I can't say one bad word about the staff. They were so friendly that I felt like I stepped into a shop in the midwest. Not to mention the woman working the front area helped me pick out the best looking pair of glasses I've ever owned. But as a corporation, it is clear that Pearle is out for your money much more than your average optometrist's office. I should have been smarter and asked more questions, but I was charged for products and services that I didn't ask for and just generally feel cheated. I wouldn't have gone here except for the fact that my insurance is awful and pretty much only allows me to go to Pearle or Cohen's. But I think I would have been better off (and had more money in my pocket) not using my insurance and going to an actual optometrist's office that would maybe have some ethics and desire to keep me as a long-term customer rather than making a quick buck. My advice - demand to see a cost estimate before letting them even glance at your eyes. Go in with a very clear idea of what you want/need and don't agree to anything more than that without doing a little research first. read more

If i could leave ZERO STARS and be able to provide a review for this unprofessional eye clinic i would. let me start off by saying i found this clinic searching online for my 2.5 year old who needs an eye exam. WHOEVER answered the phone clearly isn't aware of where he works because he falsely assured me that my son could be seen. He even called me a day before my appointment to verify i was good to go. I live in Manhattan i didnt pay $10 to get to this place. The lady who claimed was the manager which clearly shouldn't be gave me a horrible apology and ignored me after saying "im sorry we can't see your child" instead of trying to be more understanding about the entire situation or acknowledging that one of her employees fucked up. Once i called her out because she really thought that her "apology" was okay with me she got even more disrespectful. Then the eye doctor or whatever she was, was just starring at me explaining my fustration to this entire situation (which could have been avoided) as if im from outer space some stupid alien. clearly if she come upfront to help and fix the situation she could have seriously minded her business. This entire place is very unprofessional and I recommend that NOBODY goes to. Clearly none of them know how to properly speak to a person and how to communicate with someone instead they give false information and expect customers to be okay with some cheap apology. read more

Dr. C was awesome; she was also very friendly and professional. I really enjoyed my eye appointment, which was surprising! They have really nice frames to choose from, too. I was in desperate need of new frames and they just so happen to have the buy one get one free promotion! I got normal glasses and prescription sunglasses for the price of one. Maria, the lady that works there (I think she's the manager?) is the nicest ever! She helped me pick out good frames and sunglasses that look great on me. I've been a customer of this branch for 3 years, even after moving to Brooklyn, I still returned for my contact lenses. During a recent snowstorm because of train delays, I arrived at the store near closing time (5:58pm) to pick up my contact lenses. I was rudely given an insincere apology, and told I had to come back tomorrow. I explained I came all the way from Brooklyn. Staff wouldn't even look at me because they were already packed and ready to leave. Then I was given this explanation: "I have a bus to catch". This is not the type of customer service one expects for repeat customers. No wonder e-commerce is eating brick and mortar. I've been in retail myself and have always gone above and beyond in terms of customer service. I came back the next day and Boris, the store manager, offered a sincere apology on their behalf. I just had a different experience from all of you guys that wrote such reviews. I came in to get my broken gucci sunglasses. It was a minor fix but I was expecting that he would charge me atleast $10. I asked first how much to fix it but he just went on and fixed it, i was nervous that he would charge me more than my budget and have no choice but pay since he fixed it already. He turned back to me and handed my sunglasses fixed and wiped clean and said no charge! O_O wow such a nice man! read more

After spending over $600 on new contact lenses, glasses and an exam (which they charged me more for because I have an astigmatism) I was actually pleased with the service at Pearle Vision. The main associate (store manager I believe), was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. However, after I left things went downhill. Although my glasses and lenses did arrive quickly, the prescription drops that the doctor said I needed added another $95 to my bill (for a very small bottle of eye-drops). I was still okay, because I've always had bad eyes and I trusted that this was the best thing to keep my eyes healthy. They asked me to come in to followup within four weeks to check the drops and my dry eyes. The doctor (not an employee of Pearle) looked over my eyes and then asked me to check my insurance card. The appointment took less than ten minutes, but he informed me there would be a $30 copay. I was expecting he might charge me for the followup and when I left the first time, I said it would be the determining factor to whether or not I'd return to this guy or not. Looks like I will not be returning... however, things got worse. My new glasses (now about three weeks old) were a little loose- so before I left the store I asked the sales associate if she could adjust them for me. She had already been totally thrown that I had rescheduled my appointment... even came back from the exam room to ask me if my name was really Joe... or was it Joseph (this was after I gave her my last name) -whatever. Then she started adjusting... when she immediately said, "We can't be held responsible for the condition of your glasses when making adjustments." I replied, "That's fine as long as you don't break them." Which I thought was a suitable response to such a statement. Of course you know where this is going.... within a minute the arm had snapped off. "There's not much I can do," she told me. I explained they were not even a month old and I had bought them at this store... that there has to be something she could do. She did a quick patch job (I'm not sure how, since I am legally blind without my glasses). When she handed them back they sat on my face on an angle (crooked). I said, "I have to wear these home..." and she tried again so that they were only slightly off. Then I said that whether it was the frames or the adjustment, there must be something I can do to have the frame properly fixed or replaced. She asked if I had insurance? I think I must have made a face, because then she admitted that she is not the best at adjustments and I should come back when another associate is working. Luckily, I remembered the store manager being competent and upfront- I will return on her next day of work later this week and keep you posted on if the issue was resolved. UPDATE: That first associate (Marlene) was there when I returned and was wonderful. She apologized and was upset the other associate left the situation unresolved. She quickly ordered a replacement pair at no charge. I told her that she would be the only reason I returned to the store and she informed me she was headed back to her old store in New Hyde Park next week... I may make the trip, but I will not go back to the Pearle on Queens Blvd. read more

Great customer service and Dr. Cavallaro is awesome! I have a pretty complicated medical history which impacted my vision and have seen many specialists throughout the years, so I'm usually apprehensive about going to chain vision stores, but Dr. Cavallaro is personable, knowledgeable and took my history seriously. I went for the first time last year and returned this year for a second exam. She seemed like she really had concern for any out of the ordinary issues I may have as well as helping me keep my glasses up to date for what is now maintenence. I saw a few comments here that people feel like they were taken advantage of price wise. Unfortunately, I think that's just any place you go to get glasses. I've never been to a place where they didn't try to do that. They're selling a product, just like any other store. You just have to go in knowing what you need, maybe do a little research on costs before you get there, and don't be afraid to say no if they offer you something you don't want. They're there to explain things to you, so take your time and make sure you're getting what you want and need! Every person I've talked to in there has been really friendly and helpful. read more

Went in here to swap out a cracked lens on a pair of sunglasses. Big mistake. The eyeglass technician must not have had enough experience. It was a plastic frame which they heat up to pop the lens out. The technician heated up the frame too much to pop out the broken lens. When it cooled, it shrunk to the point where the replacement lens could not go in. Lesson learned: dont go to chain stores like pearle vision. Go to opticians with their own personal business that have been practicing their trade for yrs. Chains like pearle vision hire people like this guy who do not have the experience and skill to properly fix eyewear. I lost the frame and the replacement lens is now useless and i lost the money i spent on it. Do some research and find another place (like a personal optician) where you can take your prescription and who know how to make and repair glasses properly. read more

If I could give a thousand stars, I would. Boris has done me a tremendous service, with three visits where I've had to have a prescription adjusted. Each time, Boris was there to ensure that the fit was good, that the prescription worked. Still, I am having trouble seeing, and this third prescription gives me headaches and makes me feel dizzy. Boris offered to me to come visit to let him look at the old and new prescription instead of returning to the doctor once again. I am so grateful for this level of stellar customer support. I was approached by a man who I'm assuming was the manager because there were only 2 people in the store and this man completely reeked of marijuana and might I add he was having a conversation with the girl who was working there that was completely inappropriate. Four things to say: 1) I've had two eye exams here over the years, and my wife went also (so that makes three) and the Dr here is really nice and helpful. If you need a prescription and you have questions, this is the place to go! 2) The selection of frames at the store was good also! It's a small store so it's not a huge selection, but what they have is really good and at different price points. 3) they did all the work calling insurance (mine had some difficulty) so that the out of pocket cost was minmal thank you! 4) my wife's old pair of glasses lost a screw, they fixed it while we were waiting for free. It's a small shop so when I walked in I expected a salesman to pounce, but they leave you alone to look around. When I did need something I had to interrupt someone to get their attention - but once they knew I was ready they were really helpful and didn't keep me waiting. read more

Pearle Vision is our number one choice in eye care providers. The manager, Boris, is friendly and knowledgeable and very willing to work within his customers budget. Boris patiently and kindly worked with my elderly mom on her eyeglass prescription and even kept her entertained while I had my eye exam. Dr. Zhao gave me the absolute best eye exam I've ever had. He is an awesome doctor and explains every part of the exam. His warm and friendly "bedside manner" is the best! The entire staff is very warm and welcoming.
