we were in Houston for a day and my girlfriend wanted to show me Peal Bar--an iconic lesbian bar. unfortunately it was a tuesday so only half of the bar was open...pearl's sister bar, Side Peace. it was karaoke night but we mainly sat out back in the lounge picnic chairs chatting. the bartenders were approachable and the easily accessible water station is a plus. they don't keep open tabs so you have to pay every time you order a drink, but that's not so bad. bathrooms were clean too! they closed a bit earlier than their hours posted, so we ended the night at Ninja Ramen across the street.

If you want to hit up a LGBTQIA bar in Houston, stop by here. It's small but at least people are dancing! There is a wide variety of people that come here. The drinks were good, but not that strong. The entrance was free, but we paid $25 for parking next door. The overall atmosphere was pretty chill. Service was good, but my friend thinks they might've given her the wrong drink.

I didn't realize there was such a big queer community in Houston! We were visiting from out of town and had a great time. Good music, good entertainment, always felt safe!

Let me start by saying this place is the real deal. We started at Axelrad for drinks, and one of our Houstonite friends recommended me move on to the Pearl. I am so glad we did- when we walked in, it was delightful, and I immediately started with a frozen margarita, and my girlfriend got a t-shirt (they are SO cute!!). After a few minutes of just hanging out by the bar with my party of 5, a drag king show began. This was my first time at a drag king show, and it did not disappoint. It totally added a whole different layer of fun to our evening, and totally unexpected for a Wednesday night! The bar servers was all great, and we really enjoyed the vibes of the place. We ended up outside for a bit, and there was lots of space- no one was really crowded so we actually got to talk. Great time, and I feel honored to have been able to experience this, one of the few!

The vibes here are so good! Pearl is such a safe space where queer people can just be themselves. Drinks aren't super strong but they're tasty as hell! I will definitely come back as many times as I can!

As new residents and neighbors of Da Pearl we're happy to support local business. We weren't happy with the lack of quality tonic water and made up Ginger ale (coke+sprite) but after a Facebook review the mgmt quickly apologized and has since repaid UA with complimentary drinks (and bought some ginger ale for me!) We always meet cool people here, the music videos and quirky decor is very entertaining and the music next door is a nice mix of genres for all demographics (opens sometime between 9-10 not quite clear on that as yet...) I'm debating heading down right now in my sriracha shirt and torn up jeans hehehe... Always nice to have options... Cya there!

People are friendly here, good mix of crowd, some standing, some dancing, and they had a great dj when I went on a Saturday night.

This place is either popping or just plain boring. Needs better parking. Has nice patio and the vibe is chill.

Ask the Community - Pearl Houston

Are there older people who go to Pearl Houston?

My wife, who is 77 and I, 73 go to Pearl Bar for Gay Pride day and New Years. Our group of several women went there for her birthday. So yes, but we tend to arrive and leave earlier then the young ones. We are happy that there is one Lesbian Bar… Read more

    18+ allowed here or 21+?

Idk. Previous answers to this question was a yes but I don't know. Check FB or call them

    Are people under 21 allowed?

    No they are not.

Are female and male couples allowed to socialize here?

    Absolutely!

Do they allow 20 year olds in if the person doesn't want to drink and they just want to socialize?

Yes, no pressure to drink or purchase anything.

What types of clothes should we wear? Casual, cute sparkly dress, cocktail? I'm going Tuesday with some friends and I don't wanna dress incorrectly. Please help!?

It's more of a dive place, but if you feel like dressing glamorous then do so. Be who you are and screw what anyone else thinks. Jeans and T-shirt or shorts and a top are typically what you'll see though.

It says dogs are allowed. Are dogs really allowed here?

Yes, dogs are allowed. Typically on the weekends.

I couldn't believe that was my first time step into South Beach Club (SoBe) since I moved to Houston almost 2 decades ago. Every time I came to SoBe, I got turned away by the long line wrapped around the parking lot before midnight. That's when I normally get off work. But this time, we stopped by on Saturdays. We came super early, like 9:30 pm. Yeah. We got our free pass. Normally, it's $10 cover charge, which isn't bad because there is a huge dance floor with high tech lighting system and sounds system. It was totally worth every penny. Because we love to dance. We adore the music to our liking, more like in the 90's oldies. Yeah, we are older than most people on the dance floor. Thank goodness they didn't kick us out. I remember one night there was a huge group of young Asian guys came in around 10 pm. There were also many birthday celebrations around the seating area. Boy, I would love to sit on a cozy chair after dancing my ass off. Looks like they have some kind of VIP access. There were also girls and straight couples on the dance floor and around the lounge area. Oh, there is a cool patio on the side. Restroom was clean. Looks like there was some kind of upgrades at the club. Yeah. I would definitely return.

This Play Nightlife bar is located at the former Hamburger Mary's and Buddy's aka Kiki's on Grant Street of the Montrose Gayborhood. The entire complex has Hollywood neon sign on it. The left side is called Club Pause. The right side is called Play Nightlife. Together they are called Pause/Play (like on the music machine). On the weekends, Club Pause opens at noon and music starts at 10 pm. There are other activities like karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursday etc. I'm usually here on Friday and Saturday nights after 11 pm. Saturdays seem to have a bigger crowd. Club Pause has bounce music by DJ Jimmy D on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a place to hang out and dance. I like to dance at Play Nightlife because the deejays are from the former Eagle Houston. CJ Fader was the resident deejay upstairs and DJ Jimmy Skinner was the resident deejay downstairs. Music is more danceable than South Beach Houston. There are not many parking spots up front. People usually park elsewhere and bar hop to Play from neighboring bars. There are 2 taco trucks in the parking lot. My favorite food truck Pixi Dust Houston is previously called Eagle Eats. That explains why I come to Play Nightlife more often than any other gay bars in the Houston's Gayborhood.

The lighting is dark, intimate, and behind every level and door, there is something else going on. There is an element of discovery in every corner and a new adventure on every floor. Ever watch the movie Tron? There are some areas of BCD that feel incredibly futuristic with neon-lit interiors and a legitimate sci-fi feel in some areas. The areas are ass follows: The main bar with a DJ and a spacious dance floor, the red room with a visualizer setup of big bass and pulsating lights, the gold room with a speakeasy feel and a curated cocktail menu, with the secret room that is a unique space behind a certain set of doors. Most of the music on the main bar is good, the DJs are energetic, and the bartenders are efficient while professional. It's not the easiest place to photograph anything, but the different (hidden) spaces make it a worthy destination for discovery. The one area that I don't love is that they rock automatic gratuity. I do love how diverse the crowd is on the weekends, which is a testament to the city. Drinks are solid, but the speakeasy drinks are the ones that stand out the most. The latter definitely comes at a price, but beware that some drinks may have all the presence but not enough of the substance. __________ My photos: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/behind-closed-doors-houston?userid=ysCBsXWPB-LAiewVS3jZfQ
