It was the first time I've ever been refused service by a child with his arms crossed. It was very entertaining. I made sure to wave bye to demon twink on the way out with a golden smile. I'm glad there's a bartending program to get kids off the streets. Thanks for giving me something to tell my friends back home. I love how cheap the drinks are here and the sass that comes with it.

We came super early, like 9:30 pm. Yeah. We got our free pass. Normally, it's $10 cover charge, which isn't bad because there is a huge dance floor with high tech lighting system and sounds system. It was totally worth every penny. Because we love to dance. We adore the music to our liking, more like in the 90's oldies. Yeah, we are older than most people on the dance floor. Thank goodness they didn't kick us out. I remember one night there was a huge group of young Asian guys came in around 10 pm. There were also many birthday celebrations around the seating area. Boy, I would love to sit on a cozy chair after dancing my ass off. Looks like they have some kind of VIP access. There were also girls and straight couples on the dance floor and around the lounge area. Oh, there is a cool patio on the side. Restroom was clean. Masking tape was still on the staircase. My biggest complaint with the old Eagle was the creaky floor. Varsity fixed it by laying industrial floating tiles. It's not for dancing. The acoustic quality was terrible. It sounded like a dance party at high school gymnasium. They put a scoreboard on the big wall where it used to be a painting with the former bar. Upstair bar is usually packed. Clientele was mostly younger crowd. They sang songs with the music it was playing while dancing. Varsity installed several TV monitors on every single wall. Not sure what they trying to create. Extremely gaudy. That's not what a video dance bar should look like. Ugh. Not sure if I want to come back. The downstairs bar and dance floor were so empty. I went there on a Friday night. They turned off all TV's around 12:30 am. I was watching a cricket game while dancing. WTF!! I don't have a good taste after that.

This Play Nightlife bar is located at the former Hamburger Mary's and Buddy's aka Kiki's on Grant Street of the Montrose Gayborhood. The entire complex has Hollywood neon sign on it. The left side is called Club Pause. The right side is called Play Nightlife. Together they are called Pause/Play (like on the music machine). On the weekends, Club Pause opens at noon and music starts at 10 pm. There are other activities like karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursday etc. I'm usually here on Friday and Saturday nights after 11 pm. Saturdays seem to have a bigger crowd. Club Pause has bounce music by DJ Jimmy D on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a place to hang out and dance. I like to dance at Play Nightlife because the deejays are from the former Eagle Houston. CJ Fader was the resident deejay upstairs and DJ Jimmy Skinner was the resident deejay downstairs. Music is more danceable than South Beach Houston. There are not many parking spots up front. People usually park elsewhere and bar hop to Play from neighboring bars. There are 2 taco trucks in the parking lot. My favorite food truck Pixi Dust Houston is previously called Eagle Eats. That explains why I come to Play Nightlife more often than any other gay bars in the Houston's Gayborhood.

I appreciate the attempt to create unique flavor combinations but the options are just...confusing. For example, mezcal with citrus and prickly pear, or a highball with black currant, tequila and apricot. I'm holding on for dear life with all of these ingredients! Going along for the adventure, I tried their pickle cocktail that was on the menu and it was honestly, terrible. While they do have a happy hour that goes until 8pm, the service this last visit just wasn't the best. The server who helped me told me it was his second day and was clearly struggling to keep up with the cocktail combinations, referencing his phone many times while preparing the drink. I ended up not liking this drink and brought it back to the bar with just one sip gone and rather than offering to make me another drink, they kept it on my bill. Ok, whatever. That being said, just before this happened, the couple in front of me went to pay for their bill, prepared drinks in hand, at 8:02pm and the bartender refused to honor the happy hour prices, just two minutes past the official end time. With these two instances, it seems like the priority is maximizing every dollar of profit rather than investing in the customer experience. Given the number of other original concepts in the area, I would pass.

we finna get into this prejudice shake shack of a bar! cus putting your hands on "non-violent" customers is a no-no. i didn't even make it in the door lol. i understand you're trying to you're trying to collect your coins that you get paid under the table, but that gives any of you right to treat the lgbtqia+ with disrespect because 9 times out of 10 yall are not actual law enforcement! for you guys to put your hands on me, & yall don't even know me could've gone a lot worse. I'm from Atlanta but I moved to Houston, I visited this place three times over the last 3 years. This place is horrible. Super tiny. They recently "remolded". They turned the small pool area into what the employees dubbed as the sex room, stripper pole and all, extended the bar which make the place feel even smaller now and added a wrap around patio. The Patio is the only "good" thing about the bar and it's where most people escape to. The restrooms are nasty dirty and super tiny. You'll need an STD test after you've been in them. The owner Grey is very rude. He is one of those "this is MY bar and if you don't like MY bar or how it's run get the fuck out" types. I've seen him kick people out for ridiculous reasons. I will go one further and say Montrose would be better off without this Bar. read more

Management crazy how you just hire anyone and also has black coworkers crazy..if you're a person of color i wouldn't support this establishment and def wouldn't buy a drink from this bartender . I see this listed on my yahoo search as a "classic gay leather bar" Crocker is anything but a classic anything as far as gay bars. It is hands down the friendliest, least pretentious gay bar in the city. Unlike many other gay bars where people are hidden from the public by high walls, Crocker has the most comfortable and open deck in the front and sides. The karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays hosted by the wonderful Mardashian is by far one of the most entertaining events in town. Great drink specials, an awesome staff and owners, you are guaranteed to feel welcome and have a good time at this all around classic people bar. read more

Great place awesome drinks but this particular person should not work there not only he's extremely rude but also a very rude, I guess he believes he owns the place and he can treat costumers like crap, just because he is a manager he SHOULD NOT treat people like that. This bar is TERRIBLE! Who cares if you can't beat the prices, I'd rather pay a dollar or two more a drink at Jr's or Eagle than ever return here in my life. This bar used to be fun but has turned into a hoodrat hangout spot. All the good bartenders left to work at other bars. The security is rude as hell. The way she spoke to us was completely unnecessary, and she made an already frustrating situation much worse instead of simply explaining what the issue was. She also recorded members of our group dancing without our notice, which I found uncomfortable. & I will admit that I became extremely frustrated and cussed at staff. I could have handled my frustration better. However, I still feel that the situation could have been handled much more professionally and respectfully, i genuinely felt like I was being treated unfairly. This was my first time at Numbers, and unfortunately it's not an experience that would make me want to come back at all.
