Our guide, Jason was really informative and attentive when it came to our equipment and keeping us focus. Mountain Trip employees were all professional, but also kept it light and fun for us. From the very beginning the crew at peak went above and beyond. We had a last minute booking and needed to change dates due to a canceled flight. No questions asked, Jared took care of everything and made sure we were set up. He scheduled us with Spence and we couldn't have lucked out more. Spence was incredible! He took us to the back country away from the chaos of the park. We found some fresh ice tucked into a little cut with no one around, it was amazing!! I had climbed before, but my partner hadn't. No stress at all, he made sure we both had an absolute blast! Can't say enough about Spence. He made sure we had all the equipment we were missing, was incredibly positive, experienced, courteous... the guy is a rockstar! My wife surprised me with a half day climbing trip for my birthday and it honestly was one of the best experiences I've ever had! This is mainly because our guide, Spence, was amazing!! To say I am terrified of heights is an understatement, we shared this with our guides Dave and Jesse, boy was I in for a surprise. First of all it is breath taking, secondly Dave and Jesse were simply outstanding!!! They did an amazing job at educating us on safely traversing the terrain, the do's the dont's of rock climbing and most importantly assuring me when I had doubts. The result....... I LOVED it and want to go again!!! I can not recommend Mountain Trip enough but in particular Dave and Jesse were in one word UNBELIEVABLE !!!!! Took an AIARE Level 1 course with Mountain Trip in January taught by Fischer and Coop. Our guides were great trainers and kept the group engaged with plenty of search practice, snowpack evaluation and trip planning exercises. During our field day, my partner sprained his knee on our second descent and Fischer and Coop went above and beyond in providing basic backcountry first aid and helping him skin out safely, staying with us all the way until we were back in town and even checking in a couple times in the following days to check in on how his knee felt (all good with a few weeks of rest!). I recently did a full day private guided ice climbing course with Danika and absolutely loved it! I had never been ice climbing before and my friend who came with had never even been rock climbing before and Danika was able to teach us effective ice climbing techniques so that we were getting up the walls in no time! Prior to my trip to Ouray, communication with the office was stellar - very clear instructions for confirming payment/waivers/gear needs. I am a relatively experienced rock climber with ice climbing on the bucket list. My wife got me a day of one-on-one introduction to ice climbing and a full day of climbing. Dan was my guide and we spent the day in the Skylight area just up the hill from the ice park. Unquestionably this was the most professional and perfect introduction to the sport. We did a ton of climbing, worked efficiently on my technique, and exposed me to single pitch water/ice, multi pitch, and even some mixed climbing! Dan has a staggering amount of experience and clearly explains every bit of the equipment, techniques, and skills used in ice and mixed climbing. Dan is an all around badass with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Ouray is definitely the ice climbing capital of the country and Peak was a perfect company to indoctrinate those with whatever level of climbing experience. AMAZING! read more

Woo Peak! Great job! My friends and I also did a half day of ice climbing with Zach, who was amazing! It was the first time ice climbing for everyone in the group, and Zach was able to teach us a lot of the basics and had us all climbing up a frozen waterfall by the end of our day! Matt the coordinator was responsive to our emails and was easy to work with in order to help set things up. The peak is super centrally located in downtown Ouray so it was easy to find. The weekend we came out the ice park was closed, so we went to an area called the skylight which was beautiful!! Everyone has a great time, and Zach def made us feel comfortable and joked around with us a lot as well as taught us how to ice climb! (Duh) I agree with the other reviewers that next time we will try and go a full day in order to get more climbs in! Thanks peak! Solid work. read more

In December I took my Avy 1 certification through Peak Mountain Guides, Matt was our instructor. The course couldn't have been better. The material covered was done in a very articulated, thorough manor. We learned a lot of information to make more calculated decisions, and had a blast the entire weekend. This outfit is top notch all around. I will more than likely take my level 2 next winter, and if I do, it will be with Peak. Furthermore, the team of guides Matt has wrangled up are all high caliber professionals, a few of them which I know and have been out climbing/skiing with personally. I Highly recommend using Mountain Trip Guide Service for any adventure or expedition. My niece and nephew, 17 and 15 years old, were on their first trip out west.I wanted them to see and experience Colorado to the fullest showing them why I have been here for 20 plus years. My best friend and I have been talking about doing the Via Ferrata which is just up the valley from where we live for the last couple months. I was reluctant to pay for a guide since we both have experience in a harness on a rock face. I am so happy with the decision to get a guide. I had heard from locals and visitors nothing but wonderful experiences about trips taken not just about this traverse but also of ice climbing and back country skiing as well. From Todd answering all my questions thoroughly and knowledgeably to showing up getting lined out and geared up with calm cool information and instructions encouraging good communication. I felt immediately good about our decision to do this. Fisher took us up to the trail head in a nice truck and it was impossible not to like this guy and his energy. I was way more nervous than I put off trying not to freak out the "kids". At one point my niece had a small breakdown and didn't want to go on. We were already through the "main event" , which is the most famous point where both feet and hands on on iron rungs with a 375 ft drop below. So turning back wasn't going to be better than pushing on. Fisher was smooth and with his experience gave her the instructions to not just get through it but to be alright with showing her emotions. He verbally and physically helped her one little move at a time making sure that she wasn't in danger. I hope and think that this experience will be with the kids and us all for the rest of our days. Talk about overcoming fears! From now on Paul and I will do this on own own but for this first time it was unregrettably a good decision to spend the money. We're already talking about the next adventure and those after that to have Mountain Trip show us "the ropes", even though we live here. I have always wanted to try ice climbing. Maybe some big mountain expeditions locally and internationally? Sounds over the top and cheesy but I literally trust them with my life. read more

My friends and I had a great introductory session to ice climbing through Peak Mountain Guides in the internationally acclaimed Ouray Colorado Ice Park. Steve, our instructor, taught us the basics of putting on crampons, using the ice axe or tool, and using the crampons and foot kick to grab onto the ice. He also taught us how to put on the climbing harness and tie the belaying rope into it and the technique for safely belaying a fellow climber. He gave us great tips on how the best use our ice axes and feet to make the climb. We applied our new skills to as many climbs we wanted to do in two hours on a challenging but good ice wall for beginners. He was low key and put us at ease. It was a great experience. Matt talked us through all the subtleties of the climb and Dan, who was already in the area guiding Ancient Art, met us in person as well. Matt and Dan were both super professional, knowledgeable, personable and fair. You feel like you are in good hands, that they know all the latest techniques for safety and efficiency (guides are AMGA certified), and that they are eager to impart their knowledge to you. They also go through vetting to make sure this is the right climb for you, so everybody can have a good time and meet their goals. I went on a guided backcountry skiing tour with Gary Ryan from Peak Mountain Guides in February 2014. It was an amazing experience! This was my first backcountry touring experience.
