Our traveling vet, Dr. Caplan, was so communicative, kind, caring, and soothing for our dachshund, Willow, who was 15 1/2. Dr. Caplan texted when he was on his way, then called to discuss a few things before coming to our home. He had everything set to go so we knew what to expect. After a day or so, he called to see how we were. In less than two weeks we received an email that Willow's ashes were on their way to us, and they just arrived so we were prepared. At least for me, deciding to say goodbye to my cat was one of the hardest and saddest decisions of my life. I called P.P. in the morning and the woman I spoke to had the most calm, kind voice. I explained what was going on, and she asked when I wanted to say goodbye. She was able to fit me in that day, which was great because I think 24 hours would have been too much suffering for my kitty. The vet showed up at the appointed time and she, too, had the kindest voice and was so gentle, patient, etc. The process was quick but not rushed. I was given the time I needed and she was present but not "in the way." My cat was always, for this full 19 years of live, terrified of and traumatized by going to the vet. An at home goodbye was the only option I could imagine and I am so, so thankful for this group who makes that possible. From the calm and compassionate voice on the phone who scheduled the appointment to Dr. Dreizen, who handled the euthanasia, it's clear that the people who work at this business have put a lot of thought into how to be kind both to pets in pain, and to people in the throes of stress and grief. Our elderly cat's passing seemed smooth -- neither the sedative nor the final shot seemed to cause her any suffering; she was resting peacefully on my lap the whole time. We really appreciated how many little touches of care reassured us that they took this as seriously as we did. We've used an in-home vet for a while, and they could've done this, but I'm glad we went with euthanasia specialists -- and feel fortunate to have found a company so good at their work as PP. They had all the pre-paperwork and payment setup available online so we could take care of logistics beforehand and not worry about any of it when she was there to put down our cat. I originally thought I had several days with her and so called on Friday night to schedule the appointment for Monday afternoon. The woman on the phone was kind, helpful, and empathetic. She worked with me to explain things and made sure I had all my questions answered. I ended up having to say goodbye to my baby on Saturday night and so had to cancel the appointment. I ended up paying more for euthanasia at the emergency vet as I would have with PP. PP quoted me at $630 for the service, private cremation, and paw print, the emergency vet was $800. (Although highly recommend VEG for emergency vet services, they were great under the circumstances). I wish I could have said goodbye to my kitty at home with PP but circumstances declined rapidly and it wasn't kind to wait til Monday. It's an extremely difficult time for any pet parent to come to this point of their fur baby's life when euthanasia is the last option to end your loved one's suffering. The staff (receptionist who made the appointment and Dr. Caplan who came to our home) were empathetic, patient and understanding which made the whole process less stressful. Our cat is weary of strangers but Dr. Caplan was patient and explained each step of the way so we know what to expect and our cat was able to cross the rainbow bridge peacefully. After the appointment, they call to follow up with us in addition to sending us a sympathy card. They worked with our vet so we picked up the ashes at the vet instead of the cremation place which was 2 hours away. The paw print turned out fine. Two months ago, my husband and I got the devastating news that our sweet cat, Simon, had an intestinal tumor and it was inoperable. He was only 8 years old, and we thought we'd have many more years with him. We had an especially difficult time getting information, medicine, and advice on how to care for our boy from our vet at Doc Side, and we were looking for some additional help. Peaceful Passage was recommended to us by a couple of people, so we booked a virtual consultation with Dr. Rabinowitz. She could not have been kinder, and was able to talk through Simon's diagnosis and the best end of life care options we could give him. Just 4 weeks after we got the terrible news, his health had deteriorated to the point where we needed to let him go. We requested a home euthanasia appointment at 4:30 pm, and Dr. White was at our apartment the next morning at 10 am. She asked us all about Simon and his life, and Simon felt comfortable with her right away. Dr. White was wonderful; she was patient and never rushed us, giving us the time and space we needed to say goodbye. When the time came, my husband got to hold him and his little heart gave out just from the sedative alone. Simon hated the car and going to the vet, so to be able to let him pass in the comfort of his own home was the best thing we could do for him. Dr. White told us that she'd spoken to Dr. Rabinowitz that morning, who sent us her condolences, which was so nice considering we'd only met her once. When Dr. White took him away, we knew he was in good hands. Dr. Stuart came to my daughter's house on Friday to put down her dog (my grand dog). He was nice but acted like he was rushing things. When it was time for him to give the pain medicine to her, of course she yelped from the needle but kept yelping for a good 30 seconds in which it felt more like a minute. Hi, years later and we've now used this business twice (sadly). We've worked with two vets and both were nice, although one was EXCELLENT and the other just good. The people on the phone are almost always kind, friendly, and helpful. We had a very bad experience with the receptionist in 2018 (on a very difficult day at a terrible time). Most of their current (2021-2022) have been pretty compassionate. Some definitely care much more than others. It's been pretty easy to schedule and I appreciate that they are upfront with their costs. The price is fairly high, but being able to do this at home is a huge blessing for our pets when they are not well. We felt a bit rushed by one vet, but the other acted like a friend who was simply there to help us through a difficult time. She was not just a vet, but a therapist to support us during a difficult time. I know we will face this situation more times in the future and I'm glad this business exists. read more

I was beginning to plan for at-home euthanasia for my 14-1/2 year old dog, Steel, when I realized the situation was more dire and we needed to let him go sooner. I contacted several places on December 27th and Peaceful Passage was the only service that could help us that day. After a difficult afternoon/night at the local pet hospital, we found ourselves looking for an at-home euthanasia service who could help us stop our cat's pain quickly. I knew nothing about this process, but I did know our cat was in pain, and even with significant intervention, which she would hate, she only had a couple months left, and her comfort during that time was likely going to be minimal. When we called Peaceful Passage on Saturday morning, they were able to book us a Sunday morning appointment, and were very sensitive on the phone to how broken up we were. They asked what was wrong with her, probably to ensure that someone wouldn't abuse their services, which I appreciated. Dr. Scherer came out that morning, and was very respectful of our space and our cat's comfort level. She explained the process, confirmed plans for the body, and what physical reactions we might expect out of our kitty after administering the sedative (e.g. cats' eye muscles, when relaxed under this stimulant, will often leave the eyes open). She introduced herself to the kitty, and asked us to let her know when we were ready to administer the sedative. Once we were, and she had done it, she stepped back as quickly as she could to let us hold and pet our cat for the final time while saying goodbye. Our cat fell asleep for the first time in days with us close to her, and I was able to carry her out of the closet she had hidden in to a more open, sunny place in our house. Once she checked to see that our cat was fully sedated, Dr. Scherer asked us to let her know when she should administer the second shot, and gave us as much time as we needed before then. When we told her we were ready, we were able to keep contact with her while the shot went into her back leg. After a few minutes, Dr. Scherer confirmed the heart had stopped, and with minimal interruption, excused herself. She didn't mind that we were absolute crying messes the entire time. She had also left behind a pamphlet about grief and counseling services for us to read later, and with some reassuring words about the decision, and how it's natural to feel awful making this decision (which we did), but it is the best option for them. True to their name, this is about the best way I could think of to say goodbye. Your pet knows how much you love them, and they've loved you back unconditionally. Doing this doesn't change that - it's your last act of kindness to them. They live in the moment and don't hold grudges. Being with them in their final moments before they go to sleep is how they would want it to happen. PP was great for making that a smooth effort with minimal interruption or intrusion, and I'll always be glad we got to hold her as she passed. read more

As I write this, I am still crying from the loss of my greyhound. Nothing is going to make this day better but Dr. White made this the most beautiful end possible.
