I cannot say enough good things about Peaceful Passage. To get scheduled was very easy and the admin helped soothe my fears. They are very organized. Our traveling vet, Dr. Caplan, was so communicative, kind, caring, and soothing for our dachshund, Willow, who was 15 1/2. Dr. Caplan texted when he was on his way, then called to discuss a few things before coming to our home. He had everything set to go so we knew what to expect. After a day or so, he called to see how we were. In less than two weeks we received an email that Willow's ashes were on their way to us, and they just arrived so we were prepared. They also wrote a nice card. This service was one that was recommended by our vet, and we are glad we went with them, they are stellar in service and empathy. read more

I just found out that Dr. White took over this practice. Please read my previous review. In it, I did not reveal the name of the vet. It was Dr. White who did not adequately sedate my dog, did not listen to me when I said he was not adequately sedated (he was walking around for God's sake!), and then to test whether he was adequately sedated (he just lay down bc he was tired; he was fully with it) assaulted him by yanking on his very injured leg. He immediately yelped. Then she tried to come back toward him. He was terrified and snapped in warning at her. She told me to pin him down. I refused. The then-owner, Dr. Rabinowitz, had to come and finish the job. It was beyond horrible, the last hour of my dog's life spent in pain and fear. I see from others' reviews that she did the same thing to other pets numerous times over the years. There are now multiple other options for at home euthanasia. Please consider one of them. Otherwise, prepare to have your poorly sedated pet given the medicine to stop its heart--which is horrifically painful and frightening without proper sedation. The only reason to skimp on the sedation is to save money or just to be cruel. I don't understand either. I'm so sorry Dr. Rabinowitz retired. read more

I can't speak highly enough of our experience with Peaceful Passage and Dr. White. They helped us navigate a difficult situation with compassion and care. Dr. White made such an impression on us with her kindness and gentleness with our pup, down to the dog bed and flowers she'd set up in her car to drive back with. We also appreciated that they sent our dog's ashes and paw/nose prints back to our vet in DC for pickup when th ready. No one wants to be in this position, but I'm incredibly grateful that Peaceful Passage was there to help us. read more

I echo pretty much everything else I see in reviews here. From the first call to the final minute there was compassion, patience and overwhelming respect for my family's needs. Everyone I spoke with was exceptional, and the doctor couldn't have done better than she did. They took every hard moment and made it as easy as it could be made. It let us focus on our pet and ourselves. Wonderful service!! read more

I am beyond thankful for Peaceful Passage. My boy took a turn for the worse overnight and we knew it was time. I called early in the morning and was able to get an app for the same day. The person on the phone was very nice and compassionate and explained what the process would be once the doctor arrived. All information was taken care of over the phone, making the visit smooth and efficient. When the doctor arrived, she also took the time to get to know our boy and was seriously the best doctor we could've asked to do this. I always knew I wanted at-home euthanasia, and after my experience with Peaceful Passage, I know I 100% made the right choice. My boy died surrounded by so much love and care, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Peaceful Passage read more

We had an amazing experience with Peaceful Passage. To be honest I wasn't sure if it was necessary to have this done in our home. Now I can't imagine doing it elsewhere. The doctor who came to our house was so soft-spoken and gentle. He took the time to explain every step of the procedure as he was doing it. He made sure to ask us about our dog and how he'd been a huge part of our family. He never rushed us. In fact, he even offered to step outside to give us some time alone. He seemed to genuinely care -- both about us and our pet. Peaceful Passage is a true blessing and we are fortunate to have discovered them. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Peaceful Passage. The initial phone call was so hard but the woman we spoke to was incredibly kind and walked us through everything. We were able to get an appointment for the next morning. They explained what to expect and were transparent about everything. When it was time for our appointment, the vet who came was also incredibly kind. He explained everything that would happen so we knew exactly what to expect. He gave us space and let us tell him when we were ready. When our sweet girl passed, he gave us the option to walk her to the car. When my husband took her out, he saw that the backseat had been folded down and there was a soft bed surrounded by flowers in the back for her to rest. This is a small detail, but shows just how thoughtful and considerate they are from start to finish. Having to say goodbye to your pet is incredibly hard. They helped us feel good about our decision and gave us the closure of saying goodbye while knowing she was comfortable in her own home. My family is incredibly grateful for their support and care. read more

Letting go of our family fur baby was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but Peaceful Passages and Dr. Kaplan made the process as smooth as possible and being able to say goodbye at home was the best possible way to do it. I can't reccomend this service highly enough. read more

Dr. Caplan was so very kind with our 15 year old dog, Laker, and with us. Laker was no longer able to walk, couldn't get up from his bed, so we knew it was time. Dr. Caplan was soft spoken with Laker, unhurried, and gave us ample time to say goodbye. He explained every step and what we might expect during the euthanasia process. It was a gentle passing with no pain or fear. As a pet lover, we could not ask for more. read more

At least for me, deciding to say goodbye to my cat was one of the hardest and saddest decisions of my life. I called P.P. in the morning and the woman I spoke to had the most calm, kind voice. I explained what was going on, and she asked when I wanted to say goodbye. She was able to fit me in that day, which was great because I think 24 hours would have been too much suffering for my kitty. The vet showed up at the appointed time and she, too, had the kindest voice and was so gentle, patient, etc. The process was quick but not rushed. I was given the time I needed and she was present but not "in the way." My cat was always, for this full 19 years of live, terrified of and traumatized by going to the vet. An at home goodbye was the only option I could imagine and I am so, so thankful for this group who makes that possible. My kitty was able to lay in his favorite spot, with me right beside him, and he was unafraid. The day was terrible, but P.P. made it a tiny bit more comfortable and loving. read more

Peaceful Passage made an awful time a little less awful. From the calm and compassionate voice on the phone who scheduled the appointment to Dr. Dreizen, who handled the euthanasia, it's clear that the people who work at this business have put a lot of thought into how to be kind both to pets in pain, and to people in the throes of stress and grief. Our elderly cat's passing seemed smooth -- neither the sedative nor the final shot seemed to cause her any suffering; she was resting peacefully on my lap the whole time. We really appreciated how many little touches of care reassured us that they took this as seriously as we did. We've used an in-home vet for a while, and they could've done this, but I'm glad we went with euthanasia specialists -- and feel fortunate to have found a company so good at their work as PP. I'm still so sad that my cat is no longer with me, but I have no regrets about the way we let her go. read more

We first reached out to Peaceful Passage, serving the MD/DC area, in March, leaving our names, our contact information, and Harley's name, weight, and a little bit of backstory for her experiences at the vet. Nine months later, our still-precious first rescue, having lost a little weight, still a 120-lb. German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix, could no longer get up; and we knew it was time, with her having given us everything: endless joy, unceasing laughter, and unconditional love. The two doctors that made the trip to our home, to help us say goodbye to our septuagenarian puppy, compassionately and calmly explained how the process would go, eliciting our help in steering her on that final, fantastic voyage. We told her we would soon see her again and that, before she knew it, she would be treating fields of buttercups, her favorite flower, as her own balloon-filled bouncy castle with herself as its dragon. read more

Peaceful Passage came out with just a few hours' notice on a Sunday after we received a devastating diagnosis at the emergency vet the night before. They had all the pre-paperwork and payment setup available online so we could take care of logistics beforehand and not worry about any of it when she was there to put down our cat. Dr. Ernst was so kind and helpful to me and my spouse, but more importantly, she was really good with my kids. She knew just what to do and say to make this time dignified and peaceful even though we were all heartbroken and crying our eyes out. Our wonderful cat's last act was to eat a Churu, brought by Dr. Ernst and held by our oldest child, as a distraction from the first sedative shot. He then peacefully ended his life in his favorite spot, surrounded by family. They have various options available for aftercare (cremation) at various price points if you so desire it. I know at-home euthanasia is not feasible in every situation, but I'm so glad this option was available for our boy when he needed it. I won't hesitate to reach out to them again in the future for the needs of other pets. read more

My experience with Peaceful Passage was beyond 5 stars from start to finish. I called very early on a Sunday morning to schedule a consultation as my husband & I were facing the decision to let our sweet Beagle (Scarlett) free from the cancer she was suffering. I spoke to Lindsey first who listened to my observations, concerns, and uncertainty over if now was the time. She reassured me that everything I was feeling was normal and explained we did have a small window before our girl would be much worse. I talked things through with my husband and called back to schedule the home visit. I spoke to Elizabeth who was also amazing and so kind. All of my questions were answered and I never felt pressured either way. Dr. Thompson came to our house at the scheduled time (and called when she was on her way). She even honored my odd request to not knock when she arrived and just walk into our house, as I knew Scarlett was too weak to do her usual howling and greeting she gave to all visitors. Dr. Thompson sat right on the floor with us and let Scarlett sniff her and her bags. She then explained the process and prepared us before each step. She even fielded a last minute question/request to have the cremations split into 2 portions. Our sweet Scarlett was given peace & comfort in her last moments with us thanks to the service of Peaceful Passage. I highly recommend this company to assist anyone facing the same (toughest) decision & experience. read more

I can't thank your team or Dr. Taylor enough for your kindness & compassionate care. Our veterinarian at Timonium Animal Hospital highly recommended your team to us. Our Russian Blue cat was almost 17 but a large tumor in her abdomen accelerated the short time that we had left with her. We didn't want to traumatize our girl with a final car trip and vet visit at the end. This still broke all of our hearts but our family said goodbye to her together, she passed peacefully in my loving arms. Our pets all deserve this kind of peaceful goodbye. Our family is forever grateful. Thank you Dr. Taylor, and to the team. read more

Last week, a day I've been dreading for quite sometime, we put our beloved 14 year old lab to sleep. He had lost the use of his legs and taking him to the vet for euthanasia was just not something we wanted to do. My vet recommended Peaceful Passage a few months back, because we knew this day would be approaching. For us, having our other 2 dogs be able to say goodbye and know that he had passed was very important. This service allowed our pup to be comfortable in his own home. Everyone from the receptionist on the phone to the Dr who performed the procedure were very kind and sympathetic. We were able to say goodbye to our baby the gentlest way we could and we are very grateful for that. Yesterday, we pick up our memorial items and even though this entire process was very painful, we are grateful to have a beautiful urn and paw print to remember our baby. read more

Compassionate, made a tough decision as peaceful as one would ever want for your pet. Was with us within hours.

Dr. Thompson and the support staff at Peaceful Passage were wonderful. Because of them, we were able to say goodbye to our dog while sitting with him in our back yard rather than enduring the trip to the vet. Many thanks for your support. read more

My 12 year old german shepherd had degenerative disc disease and lost the use of his back legs. Yesterday he lost all of his bodily functions and in pain I told my daughter its time. My vet recommended Peaceful Passage I talk to the intake agent she was very compassionate she went over the fees ( they are a little pricey) but my dog weigh 98 pounds so I opted to have him put to sleep at home. The doctor came along with his associate explain everything that he was going to do. Thor pass away with no pain and peaceful. As he was crossing the Rainbow Bridge I told him that I loved him and he was a Great dog. Just a few minutes ago the doctor that performed the service called me to ask how I was doing I thought that was great I would definitely recommend Peaceful Passage. read more

Note: I did not end up using Peaceful Passage. I reached out to PP to schedule an appointment for my sweet kitty who rapidly declined into kidney failure. I originally thought I had several days with her and so called on Friday night to schedule the appointment for Monday afternoon. The woman on the phone was kind, helpful, and empathetic. She worked with me to explain things and made sure I had all my questions answered. I ended up having to say goodbye to my baby on Saturday night and so had to cancel the appointment. I ended up paying more for euthanasia at the emergency vet as I would have with PP. PP quoted me at $630 for the service, private cremation, and paw print, the emergency vet was $800. (Although highly recommend VEG for emergency vet services, they were great under the circumstances). I wish I could have said goodbye to my kitty at home with PP but circumstances declined rapidly and it wasn't kind to wait til Monday. Based on communications pre-appointment I would highly recommend PP. read more

It's an extremely difficult time for any pet parent to come to this point of their fur baby's life when euthanasia is the last option to end your loved one's suffering. The staff (receptionist who made the appointment and Dr. Caplan who came to our home) were empathetic, patient and understanding which made the whole process less stressful. The whole process of scheduling the appointment and ordering the paw print was easy. Our cat is weary of strangers but Dr. Caplan was patient and explained each step of the way so we know what to expect and our cat was able to cross the rainbow bridge peacefully. After the appointment, they call to follow up with us in addition to sending us a sympathy card. They worked with our vet so we picked up the ashes at the vet instead of the cremation place which was 2 hours away. The paw print turned out fine. Nobody wants to go through this but I recommend Peaceful Passage to handle this for you to minimize the stress of this situation. read more

Two months ago, my husband and I got the devastating news that our sweet cat, Simon, had an intestinal tumor and it was inoperable. He was only 8 years old, and we thought we'd have many more years with him. We had an especially difficult time getting information, medicine, and advice on how to care for our boy from our vet at Doc Side, and we were looking for some additional help. Peaceful Passage was recommended to us by a couple of people, so we booked a virtual consultation with Dr. Rabinowitz. She could not have been kinder, and was able to talk through Simon's diagnosis and the best end of life care options we could give him. Just 4 weeks after we got the terrible news, his health had deteriorated to the point where we needed to let him go. We requested a home euthanasia appointment at 4:30 pm, and Dr. White was at our apartment the next morning at 10 am. She asked us all about Simon and his life, and Simon felt comfortable with her right away. Dr. White was wonderful; she was patient and never rushed us, giving us the time and space we needed to say goodbye. When the time came, my husband got to hold him and his little heart gave out just from the sedative alone. Simon hated the car and going to the vet, so to be able to let him pass in the comfort of his own home was the best thing we could do for him. Dr. White told us that she'd spoken to Dr. Rabinowitz that morning, who sent us her condolences, which was so nice considering we'd only met her once. When Dr. White took him away, we knew he was in good hands. Through Peaceful Passage, we were able to get a private cremation and a beautiful photo urn (which was hand-delivered the following week), along with his clay paw print and a tuft of his floof. They also gave us a packet with resources for grief support. It's difficult to write this review, but it's worth sharing that you can still have a good experience when dealing with one of the worst moments of your life. Thank you to Peaceful Passage for helping us through this really tough time. read more

This is the second time my family has used Peaceful Passage - the first time being 5-6 years ago. Sadly, we had to contact them again this week as our daughter's beloved Jewels was going downhill quickly. They were incredibly kind and responsive and even squeezed us in a day earlier because our girl was declining so rapidly. Dr. Caplan came and was so wonderful. He was kind, gentle, compassionate, thorough with his explanation of exactly what was going to happen and was incredible with our girl. While our hearts are broken over having to say goodbye to our Jewels, Peaceful Passage and Dr. Caplan made going through this the best it could possibly be. The people we talked with to schedule the appointment were incredible and empathetic too. We cannot recommend Peaceful Passage enough. read more

Please do your homework. I used Peaceful Passage after a friend recommended it. The experience haunts me and I will never forget the pain my precious dog was in during the last moments of his life. She explained every step with a calm soothing voice and gave us the time we needed between each step of the process. She allowed us to stay with her for as long as we were comfortable and even after she left with our sweet Nala, she hadn't forgotten about us. Peaceful Passage saved Carlos from a lot of pain and fear in his final hours. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer about three months ago and had gone downhill pretty quickly. I talked with Camille and Peaceful Passage as soon as he got his diagnosis so I knew what to expect. Dr. White came to our house within 48 hours and we were able to pay by credit card. Since Carlos was unable to jump up on a chair or sofa, we decided to end his pain on the floor and Dr. White was fine with that. She asked all kinds of questions about Carlos and his amazing life. She is someone who cares about animals and people and it showed in everything she did. I am so grateful for this service that spared my poor dying dog the added stress of having to be hauled to the vet for euthanasia. I was beginning to plan for at-home euthanasia for my 14-1/2 year old dog, Steel, when I realized the situation was more dire and we needed to let him go sooner. I contacted several places on December 27th and Peaceful Passage was the only service that could help us that day. I was worried that I would have to take the dog to the vet and that he would spend his final moments terrified but that didn't happen. The vet (Dr. Thompson?) came to the home. She called on her way and even checked to see if she could come a few minutes early, which was fine. She was patient, took time to explain the procedure and took time to allow me to grieve in my way. She gave us privacy to grieve when it was over and took him with her in a very gentle manner. She allowed my companion to die with dignity and grace. Thank you! read more

Hi, years later and we've now used this business twice (sadly). We've worked with two vets and both were nice, although one was EXCELLENT and the other just good. The people on the phone are almost always kind, friendly, and helpful. We had a very bad experience with the receptionist in 2018 (on a very difficult day at a terrible time). Most of their current (2021-2022) have been pretty compassionate. Some definitely care much more than others. It's been pretty easy to schedule and I appreciate that they are upfront with their costs. The price is fairly high, but being able to do this at home is a huge blessing for our pets when they are not well. We felt a bit rushed by one vet, but the other acted like a friend who was simply there to help us through a difficult time. She was not just a vet, but a therapist to support us during a difficult time. I know we will face this situation more times in the future and I'm glad this business exists. read more

Dr. Stuart came to my daughter's house on Friday to put down her dog (my grand dog). He was nice but acted like he was rushing things. When it was time for him to give the pain medicine to her, of course she yelped from the needle but kept yelping for a good 30 seconds in which it felt more like a minute. My grand dog snapped at my other grand dog and my daughter that was holding her. She has never snapped at anyone ever! She was a very playful loving dog. It was very painful to watch and to see my grand dog go through so much pain towards the end. It was horrible! The entire family was shocked and devastated and still are! It took everything I had not to cuss him out. I would not refer anyone to this place! read more

After a difficult afternoon/night at the local pet hospital, we found ourselves looking for an at-home euthanasia service who could help us stop our cat's pain quickly. I knew nothing about this process, but I did know our cat was in pain, and even with significant intervention, which she would hate, she only had a couple months left, and her comfort during that time was likely going to be minimal. When we called Peaceful Passage on Saturday morning, they were able to book us a Sunday morning appointment, and were very sensitive on the phone to how broken up we were. They asked what was wrong with her, probably to ensure that someone wouldn't abuse their services, which I appreciated. Dr. Scherer came out that morning, and was very respectful of our space and our cat's comfort level. She explained the process, confirmed plans for the body, and what physical reactions we might expect out of our kitty after administering the sedative (e.g. cats' eye muscles, when relaxed under this stimulant, will often leave the eyes open). She introduced herself to the kitty, and asked us to let her know when we were ready to administer the sedative. Once we were, and she had done it, she stepped back as quickly as she could to let us hold and pet our cat for the final time while saying goodbye. Our cat fell asleep for the first time in days with us close to her, and I was able to carry her out of the closet she had hidden in to a more open, sunny place in our house. Once she checked to see that our cat was fully sedated, Dr. Scherer asked us to let her know when she should administer the second shot, and gave us as much time as we needed before then. When we told her we were ready, we were able to keep contact with her while the shot went into her back leg. After a few minutes, Dr. Scherer confirmed the heart had stopped, and with minimal interruption, excused herself. She didn't mind that we were absolute crying messes the entire time. She had also left behind a pamphlet about grief and counseling services for us to read later, and with some reassuring words about the decision, and how it's natural to feel awful making this decision (which we did), but it is the best option for them. True to their name, this is about the best way I could think of to say goodbye. Your pet knows how much you love them, and they've loved you back unconditionally. Doing this doesn't change that - it's your last act of kindness to them. They live in the moment and don't hold grudges. Being with them in their final moments before they go to sleep is how they would want it to happen. PP was great for making that a smooth effort with minimal interruption or intrusion, and I'll always be glad we got to hold her as she passed. read more
