As a customer for 15-20 years, the thing that bothers me the most about PayTrust is that it's a unique service, that should have dominated the billpayment landacpe. As a retail bank, Intuit should have been the perfect marriage, but they have completely abandoned it. The fact that it survived this long without any apparent support, is a testament to the sticky effect it has on it's customers and the strength of the underlying technology. If Intuit or any other retail bank were to support, market, and integrate this service, it could attract a legion of lifetime users to it's financial services.
The main unique feature of PayTrust is that you can redirect any paper bill to their processing center in Sioux Falls, SD, where it's scanned and presented for electronic payment and archived forever. You can pay any bill from any bank account, and it lets you manage multiple payment instruments that can be assigned to manually or automatically pay any bill.
Customer service is completely non-existent. This is the reason for 1 star. For a service as critical as presenting and paying bills online, I would expect outstanding customer service to quickly address issues that can have serious financial consequences. Some other users have commented that customer service went downhill 2 years ago, or whenever Intuit bought the company. But really, it has always been a big zero. I've reported at least a dozen issues over the past 15 years, and none of them ever got addressed.
I've been lucky to only experience minor headaches that I can work around. But I'm sure many customers have experienced serious consequences. I'll keep hanging on until some random bug with my name on it messes up one of my accounts, but until them, I'll cross my fingers and keep going so I can keep my long history of transactions and one-stop billpayment system.
UPDATE 6/15/16: Without warning, Paytrust changed their policy to not retain the scanned bill images. Now, they only retain the meta data such as the payment date and amount, but you can't see any account history that was on your paper bill anymore. I had 15 years of financial records wiped away without warning as a result. Seems like the wheels are falling off now. read more
