I called Payless Taxi because I needed to finish up some Christmas shopping. He said it would be about an hour before he could get to me which was fine. I have a young daughter and she was very excited to go. Well, he never showed up. I tried calling him and he ignored my call. My daughter started crying.. I called Elite Taxi and he came and picked us up, loaded our shopping bags when we were done, and was overall a great guy. I will definitely call Elite again. Not Payless. read more

Payless Taxi is operated by a single driver. He seemed friendly, and came as quickly as he could. However, I will not be riding with him again, for two reasons. First, I was disappointed with his lack of any covid safety protocol. He was not wearing a face covering, and the windows were all closed (it was 50 or so outside, so not summer but not too cold either. Second, his driving felt reckless. Set up a ride at 1p for 4-4:30p and they never showed, never called, didn't answer the phone, didn't respond to voice mail. It's after 7p now and I'm stuck 30+ miles from home with no ride. At least they saved me $100 + tip by not showing up. It sucks being stranded and having to wait for my brother to drive 3+ hours to come get me... don't waste your time with them. Called yesterday to set up a ride to the hospital for an urgent medical procedure for today. After talking on the phone where he verified his availability, Dale later confirmed via text. Today, simply no show. I texted to ask his whereabouts, no answer. Really left me in the lurch to get to a surgery. I will NEVER call them again. Called up to get a ride from my mechanic to home. Told me it would be 45 min, after an hour he called my home number for directions (that I already gave him) and said he was just leaving. An hour later never showed up and calling him twice just got voicemail. I would have been stranded in a storm except for my mechanic bending over backwards to make it work for me. Not the first problem I've had with him on timing, but never showing up and two days later I still haven't had a call explaining why. Never going to waste my time or money again. read more

I called on Friday to set up a ride for Saturday afternoon, asking when would be a good time to call the next day. I called at that time and repeated after 30 and 60 minutes. He never answered. He never returned VMs. Since I had experience with the local hospital making people pay for a cab, and not waiting in chairs until the next morning to catch the bus, I asked, "If you had someone, right now (Saturday afternoon) and treatment was done, which cab would you call? I was told there were no cabs operating on Saturday or Sunday, so this was a passive-aggressive way of saying "never" to me. I had a bad experience with this guy in the fall of 2015 to get to classes at CCV in Montpelier. Misogynist. Called only because the other three numbers I got from the Internet were no longer in business, or had temporarily suspended operations due to a lack of drivers. read more

Thursday, 01/16/2020: I hardly ever take the time to write a review but I definitely felt like it's worthwhile in this case. I was in a desperate situation where I was running really late from a business meeting to catch my Greyhound bus out of town.. I called and although there were other fares, the owner/driver understood my situation and said he would pick me up in 7 minutes, which he promptly did........in the middle of a snowstorm. I had called these folks to pick up a group of passengers whose vehicle I was towing. There were too many passengers with the vehicle to be towed for the amount of seats in my flatbed truck. Not only did Payless Taxi not show up in a reasonable amount of time, nobody answered the phone when we were calling to find out how far away they were. I ended up making a second trip back to the breakdown location to pickup the remaining passengers (at no charge -- to make up for the POOR service from Payless) and bring them into Barre as a courtesy. read more
