There are two beaches, one specifically for swimming only, plus one with boat access and docks that allows your furry friends to cool off. Yes, pets are allowed! Kayaks, sailboats, and canoes can be rented or bring your own. I left mine safely down on the beach without any issues. Also, the park has trailer parking for those using fishing or ski boats. To top it off, there's a large, covered pavilion with a rustic fireplace, picnic tables, and spacious charcoal BBQ grills (I mean big) for any special parties or reunions. As far as my stay, it was wonderful! Within the 26,000 acre forest, there is Boulder Beach, Kettle Pond, New Discovery State Park, Ricker Pond, the Central Vermont bike trail system, hiking trails, the Owl Head lookout, and a Nature Center. Hiking, biking, bird watching, nature photography, boating, camp fires are pristine and plentiful. Loons could be heard and seen daily! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Camping sites have plenty of mature forest surrounding them to keep your neighbors hidden or absorb noise etc. The showers and bathrooms were clean and plentiful. I cannot wait to return to the area this Fall. From Burlington, VT, it was a tad over an hour taking I89 to State Highway 302 and 232. While you are in the area, check out P&H truck (I have reviewed that) or stop at the many roadside fresh farm garden stands to use for your campsite cooking. If you really need coffee or other supplies, there is a Camp Country Store within walking distance from Stillwater State Park on Stillwater Road or drive 5 miles to the Upper Valley Grill located at the Routes' 232/302 junction. My favorite reason for visiting the area, besides all the great stuff I just typed above, is it isn't crowded! The amount of outdoor recreation available allows everyone to spread out, enjoy and have their space without overuse. 5 Stars for sure Stillwater, well done!

I had a picnic table and and place to build a fire. It was fairly private and I enjoyed it. The lake was absolutely beautiful to swim in and I brought my stand up paddle board too. Lots of boats out on the water. There are also campsites for campers. 56 campsites altogether. A nice pavilion with seating. Bathroom was pretty clean and you can take a shower for a few quarters. It's right near the Montpelier river rail trail where you can walk or bike. Careful for the bears around. They were at the dumpsters nightly.

She was very helpful, completed the transaction fast because the sun was going down and she knew we needed to get set up. The game room was great to sit and use the WiFi to figure out the plan for the next day, hot showers and clean restrooms, what else could you ask for? I would stay in the lower area next time, the road is busy and if you're a light sleeper, and the next morning is a school day, you might not sleep sound, but we enjoyed our time there under the stars with a nice fire. Huge plus if anything gets dirty. The three hot tubs were so nice too, (bring your arm floaties) talk about relaxing........ And a pool, can you ask for anything more? We were there on an off weekend, so no planned activities. Everyone we met was very nice and no judgement. Very rare nowadays! We had our dog with us and everyone was really cool with him (Rottweiler) and he did great. (Sometimes has issues, he's a rescue and was previously abused. Our neighbors were super nice and gave us the layout of the area. If we can get the same spot as seasonal, we will jump on it! And we can let it all hang out!

Onion River Campground is helping children create a caring for nature, and others, and reinforcing what camping was, and used to be for adults. Real nature fun does not have to be expensive!

The "bath house" is coed, and in horrible shape. The toilet stall doors are less than 3 feet so you are basically exposed while using them (mixed gender bath house again!). The floors are slat with spaces between, making it extremely unpleasant to use below 70° outside. We could not have showered while there as temps did not go above 60°. The water smelled like rotting eggs, sulphuric and off color. We stayed 3 nights and had to buy 6 gallons of water for our dogs to drink because they refused the stinky water. The site advertised full hook ups, however the distance between the electric hook up and sewer was over 65' and I wasn't able to find or access sewer the entire time. The camp host advised we should just dump as we are leaving instead which meant we could not shower in our RV either as it would fill our gray tank. The big positive about this location is the hiking and walking trails surrounding it. If you travel with dogs, this is a great place to let them off leash exploring. Be mindful that the seasonal residents had multiple free range cats, and they roamed in and out of our site despite two dogs. The camp helpers, Danielle and her husband were wonderful once we met them end of our second day. We purchased some soggy firewood from them. Overall I would not return to Onion River, as the seasonal site adds are all over social media and I feel those residents really destroyed our vacation experience.

A gate code is needed to access the campground. We rented a cabin here. There are four. Two of them are 'deluxe' and have indoor cook tops. The others do not allow indoor cooking and have grills outside. The kitchen was very well kitted with everything you could need. The Deluxe cabin we rented was decorated in a cabin style with bear and moose motif items. A table for two in the kitchen, a couch for two or three and a nice rocker. A small desk is in the corner of the livingroom with a kitchen chair for seating. Hooks for coats and a place for shoes by the door. The gas fireplace is shut off in the summer because the pilot heats up the cabin. They are on from Septemer 1st. The bedroom has a queen bed, (linens and blankets provided) full dresser, bedside tables, another kitchen chair (a total of four in the cabin) and luggage rack. Two narrow closets included hangers, extra pillows and towels for the pool or hot tub. Three quarter bath was well maintained. Two bath towels and one hand towel. Hand soap on vanity. Hair dryer and extra TP under sink. Shelves for toiletries. Clothes hook on back of door. Two seats and a table are on the front porch. Our parking space was in front of the porch. A picnic table and firepit are to the right of the porch, at the end of the parking space. Our porch faced the gravel road into the campground. The campground is tiered from the road down to the river with camper spots on each tier. No spots are directly on the river. A field designated as a dog exercise area is next to the river, then a small, rocky beach to the river. The road noise is heard throughout the campground, even at the brook where the river babbles over the stones, which is very pleasant. The onsite store rents tubes for riding the river. A path to the left of the dog area ends where you can put the tube in the water, ride it to the end of the beach and repeat the process. Laundry, public bathrooms and shower bathrooms are in a newer, climate controlled building near the playground. A pass code is needed to enter. Two pools and a hot tub are near the office/store. Mini-golf is behind the store. Dump station on the way out near the dumpsters. Gravel roads are maintained. Some site have full hook-up, fire pit and picnic table. Very pet friendly.

Free warm showers and a washing machine. there's a full service conveniences store with a cool local vibe. We stayed at the state site later in the week which turned into a mud site when it rained for 2 straight days. I'd prefer this site since it has grass and the tent stays "cleaner" since the grass takes a bit longer before it turns into mud. I would visit again.

Our friends were also camped next to us. The grounds are WELL maintained. There is a saltwater swimming pool, paddle boats, kayaks and small boats for fishing. The lake is owned by the campground. There is a small beach area on the edge of the lake. There is a snack bar at the office and food is reasonably priced. The campground is easy to get to from Hwy 14. We spent a week here. It is a great location to visit Vermont's tourist spots. We will be back again.

We wanted to know about hikes in the area, which they couldnt supply us with an answer but tried to help us anyway they could. The tent camping are is extremely clean and comfy, we had a double plot which was hugh with a forest behind us we can gather woods for the night..perfect. There are a couple of regular toilets and showers (3-5 min walk from the tents area) but also porta-potties scatter all over the property which is very convince. Next to the tents there was also a water source and we didnt have electricity but we did have Wifi and the kids loved playing in the lake at the end of the day. One of the best camp sites I used, especially with the lovely fireflies at night. The only 2 downsides are the fact we didnt have electric sockets near the tents and that the showers cost 25 cents for 5 min other than that..Perfect.

Maple Hill offers an in-expensive and convenient camping experience for those looking to go hiking or sight seeing in the Bristol/Waterbury area. The "downtown" of Bristol is a short drive away if you need to buy supplies or want a nice evening out for dinner and ice cream. They have both wooded and field sites you can get a nice spot right on the river. There is also a bathhouse with running water, showers, and flush toilets. I have never been so pleased with an experience of true human compassion and the people running this campground are what all humans should achieve to be. I know this review may be somewhat cryptic but might I just add: Make sure that you remember that the road for the campground is located across the street from the white house and not to find yourself going down a rocky dirt road in the dark, in a rainstorm, in the fog....Things may not end up well for you haha. Anyways, Martha is the best and thank God for AAA. Check in and registration is at the white house and campsites run about 25/night for non electric sites.

The field sites are huge, and open... they don't offer the privacy but would be a fantastic place camp with a group and stargaze. Maybe the only time I have used a campground bathroom and not had to avoid the hordes of harvestmen/daddylong-legs. And the bathroom lights are solar powered! Super nice owner, low rates, very clean grounds. It's close to some neat swimming holes, hiking and mountain biking trails, as well.
