This is a nice experience to step away from the hustle and bustle of life. Really appreciated the owners and the great care they put into this place. They are the nicest people in the world. I went with a total of 5 adults. We got a super spacious site in the back of the campground. The sites are spaced pretty far apart so you get a lot of privacy and don't hear any noise from anyone else. We only stayed for a weekend but they have seasonal campsites as well Not only do they have goats (babies and adults!) but they have a pool, bathrooms/showers, horseshoes, and a playground for the kids. They sell firewood and ice (at super reasonable prices!) and are there to help with pretty much anything you need. One other thing to note is that everything here is so clean and cared for! The owners are constantly cleaning and beautifying the whole place so I can only imagine that it will be even better next time we come back. The bathrooms were always clean and stocked with TP/soap, showers were nice, and the pool was spotless. They also have a 14" wading pool for kids/adults who don't want to go all the way in. I can't recommend this place enough! We will absolutely be back :)

The mediocre: the bathrooms were fine, the shower was warm, but having to push a button every 60 seconds to keep the water coming was odd. One of the people the next campsite over said it reminded him of prison. Haha. The not great: Maybe our particular campsite area hadn't been used in a long while, but it had not been tended-to for quite some time. There was a large ants nest in the fire ring, and I had to rake the area before being able to (feel like I was) safely make/making a fire. I was glad it had rained in previous days because the green pine firewood they were selling popped and showered sparks all over the pine needles. Wi-fi coverage only worked by front of campground (though some 3G phone signal was intermittently available). The couple that checked us in, while seeming a little quirky, did give us three adjoining sites to set up on. Details: tent camping w/ elec & water ~$30 per night.

The views of the pond and mountains were breathtaking and the staff working on the property as well as there bed and breakfast were incredible. They helped us with all of our needs and made sure to make this event even more special. In the end we had a blast here! The views were gorgeous, the grounds were phenomenal and the staff here was great. We look forward to coming here in the future to travel their hiking trails as well as marvel at their views again. On little piece of advice, this place has no cell service, so be prepared to enjoy their incredible views with limited technological interruptions.

We especially liked the wood-fired pizza, and the lemon brownies were great too. They also were very accommodating to our 8-year old daughter's picky tastes. I also liked how the salad veggies were picked from the garden in the back of the lodge. 2. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. I have to give a shout out to all the ones we met: Tiffany and Chris (innkeepers), Kate and Nan (working mornings and breakfast), and Adam (dinner shift). They were all so kind and thoughtful, and they really made us feel at home. 3. The grounds were peaceful and beautiful, and the pond was really quite a sight to behold. We enjoyed getting out on the rowboat, and the trails around the Lodge were awesome for nature watching. The remoteness of the Lodge was unique to us, since we're from overcrowed Florida. 4. The proximity to other state parks in Groton State Forest was nice, and we especially enjoyed swimming at Boulder Beach. The town of Groton was charming too, and the ice cream and mead tasting at Arteseno was well worth a stop. 5. Our room was very cozy and comfortable, and it was nice to sleep with the windows open in the summer (did I mention we live in Florida?). We also really enjoyed the common area, and were able to keep in touch with outside world with their free wi-fi, which worked very well. The board games and books in the common room kept our daughter busy too. 5. Finally, the other guests we met at the Lodge were very nice, and we felt enriched by meeting them. Mike, Jackie, Josie, and Langston were very charming, and it was nice too to meet Florian, visiting all the way from Germany. The only weird thing about Seyon is why it was relatively empty the week we were there, but I guess it's still way off the beaten path and still being discovered. But you really should check it out and enjoy it like we did. I hope to go back again soon.

The bath house is nothing too fancy and can be very cold depending on the time of year but it's decent. I love that they have a dumpster but also a ZeroSort recycling bin and even composters for food waste! The train does run pretty close by (and loudly) but not that often. The water pressure was good, they had lots of TV channels and decent WiFi but unfortunately no cell service (at least not AT&T)! Overall it's a great place and hard to beat for the money!

As a longtime skier in the northeast, I lose a little bit of ski soul…read moreevery time I encounter the reality of $249/day window rate lift ticket pricing, like what Sugarbush and its corporate overlord Alterra have unleashed on former independent gems like Sugarbush. Yes, most people will never pay $249/day because they're buying $200 online tickets, but sit with that for a second... $200/day x 2 days for a weekend + food/gas/etc means at least $500 for an average weekend of skiing before you even get to lodging. And that's absurd. Its no exaggeration to say that setting day-of pricing to over $200/day is a marketing (read: extortion) ploy to advance sales of even more expensive multi-mountain passes like Ikon, intended to lock customers into a collection of other overpriced mega-mountains, ensuring customers never know what alternatives there are out there to the over-priced, over-skied, nickel-and-dime experience that modern corporate skiing with has become. And while most customers will mindlessly one-click renew their Epic (Vail) and Ikon (Alterra) passes each year, economically the only reason these passes makes sense is when you have plans for a week away at a different exotic ski resort under the same corporate ownership that epouses equivalently over-priced day rates. In case you missed it, that's an increasingly large array of Vail and Alterra's mega resorts, as consolidation within the ski industry continues its supernova trajectory, targeting any mountain nearing triple-digit trail counts as the next pin in their corporate hats. If that sounds extreme, it's not. It's the reality many of us who've been around a while have seen play out. And it's important to understand because of the very real, far superior options available to the mainstream corporate pass skiing experience. Let me illustrate by a simple comparison: one day at a local independent mountain (Bolton Valley) vs one day at a corporate machine (Sugarbush). SUNDAY AT SUGARBUSH: riding up high-speed 5m lifts with few lines, but dumped into crowded trails laden with bumpy pockets of snow atop an icy, unpredictable base - a natural consequence of pushing hordes of skiers faster and faster up a mountain without any ticket limits that might ensure a better skiing experience. I consider myself an expert skier, who's skied some of the steepest terrain in the world, but skiing icy, unpredictable slopes like Sunday at Sugarbush force-limits anyone's ability to improve, by defaulting to minimum viable slopes stripped of any natural snowfall. It's the equivalent of the mafia offering to fix your garbage problem that it, itself, created. It's the false claim of fixing over-crowded, over-skied trails with more snow-making and faster lifts... which just put more bodies, scraping more snow, creating more of a problem than existed before. However, more bodies on mountain = more food/bev sales for corporate coffers, which ever-present signage reminding you of $1/paper cup charges won't let you forget. Heaven help anyone who just paid $249/day at the window is not also paying for double-digit drinks and $38 pizzas - the horror! SATURDAY AT BOLTON VALLEY: riding up 10m lifts with zero lift lines, skiing uncrowded glades/trails laden with soft, natural powder atop zero ice - a natural consequence of force-limiting ticket sales with smaller parking lots, less traffic, and a family-friendly, independent focus. Window pricing $49 - $109/day, but equally skiable for an entire weekend on a modest $300 season pass (Indy). TL;DR: a split-view compare of independently-owned resorts who prioritize experience over exploitation, independence over incorporation, and presence over pace. Most folks reading this review will assume it's an advert for competitors. It's not. It's a rare insight into two mountains 45m from each other who've taken entirely different paths to profitability and achieved radically different outcomes: one driven to maximize pricing and bodies on the hill, another by nearly six decades of family ownership that's driven by affordability and great experience. As with all things consumer, we all have a choice of where to spend our dollars. Having spent decades skiing the mega-mountains, traveling across the world to ski other Alterra/Ikon resorts like A-Basin, Mammoth, Stratton, and Palisades I can legitimately say the experience is the same: over-crowded, icy weekend skiing in the corporate Frankenstiens trying to solve an unsolvable problem of over-sold slopes with fake snow and higher pricing vs the still-here, uncrowded Indies indexing for reliability, affordability, and uniqueness. There's value in slowing things down, taking in stunning vistas, and paying a lot less to experience a lot more. See beyond trail counts and lift speed and you'll find an entire world of better skiing by generations of family-owned resorts beholden to a different master: your enjoyment, not corporate's bottom line.

Where do I even begin? Every single thing about this place is incredible…read more Breakfasts: nothing short of astonishing. Prepare to have your day begin with a thoughtfully-curated, multi-course selection of delicious food. Breakfast starts off with a fresh scone (the vanilla Fig ones were our favorite) and then a creative fruit plate of sorts, and, finally, the showstopper (puff pancakes with maple bacon, breakfast cubanos to name a few). Starting your day off with these elaborate breakfasts is truly such a treat. The location: Incredible. Tons of restaurants (we loved Peasant), amazing breweries (Lawsons!), scenic hikes (can snowshoe from the property), skiing and more! There is even a farm with pigs / cows/ tractors 2 minutes from the property that our toddler son went absolutely bananas for. The property: Magical. Hard to describe the serenity that the property espouses. It is truly magic. The main Inn is so cozy with a roaring fire every morning and night, amazing guests to chat with and cookies to enjoy by the fire after a long day of skiing / snow-shoeing / drinking beer - whatever floats your boat. There is also an incredible hot tub and cozy robes to take advantage of. The Innkeepers, Mick and Karen: no words can describe how amazing they are. There is a reason why every other review mentions them -- they are warm, caring and make you feel so incredibly welcome in their place. You feel as though you are staying with your family at the most amazing, cozy place you could possibly imagine. It is clear they care deeply about their guests and go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They cater to your particular interests/ needs and really do go above and beyond for their guests. Every little touch this place offers makes for a truly incredible experience. Karen & Mick are the most wonderful innkeepers and keep the space warm and inviting at all times. Visiting with another family we needed to sleep 4 adults and 4 teenagers/college students and this exceeded our expectations. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare breakfast and dinner and a very large table so everyone could enjoy our meals together. The bedrooms were very comfortable with plenty of space for your personal belongs and enough bathrooms so no one had to wait for a shower. Master bedroom had beautiful views of the valley, a wood burning fireplace and private bathroom. The Living room had plenty of seating for family movies, a fireplace along with puzzles and games for the kids to enjoy. Having both a sauna and hot tub, after a day of skiing, was amazing. With the condo only minutes form downtown Waistfield you won't have to go far for the ski resorts, shopping and restaurants. Lance was a great host, super friendly and always available to address any questions, from firewood to WiFi. I love that the condo is pet friendly which is rare to find. You and your family will love your stay at Top of the Valley.

We were there for a few days as part of a work-sponsored service project in the area, and while some of the stuff there is a bit dated, it was a really great time. The lake is beautiful for swimming and other water sports, and they have a lot of stuff available to borrow - kayaks, canoes, paddle boards. I understand the bikes are also available to borrow, though I didn't partake this time. Food was good - some really good options for the breakfast and dinner buffets, and the outdoor pizza place was good as well. I tried a mocktail or two that were pretty good, and they had a bunch of local brews on tap and in cans, which some of our crew sampled and seemed to enjoy. The lodge itself was nice to hang around as well - really liked the big central area, including some recreational stuff like puzzles, board games, pool, ping pong, and the fitness center had some good stuff there too. Sitting outside looking at the lake and mountains was really nice too, or standing on the dock in the morning. Oh, and the free concert series was really cool - I discovered a new artist to listen to while there! Overall a really beautiful spot that I would absolutely visit again!

Spectacular ice skating on a 4 mile loop around a beautiful Vermont lake, a truly unique…read moreexperience, comfortable and friendly accommodations. The skate trail is as wide as a two lane road. Tons of space for every level of skater. There is a rentals shop with hockey skates, figure skates, trail skates, and "support" accessories for those just learning or not super stable on skates. The trail is cleared daily, but when there is a snow storm it takes longer. The ice conditions are totally weather dependent. We've been here 3 times, one time the ice was smooth and very easy to skates on, one time we couldn't skate at all because the weather earlier in the week created slush, which then froze, and was so bumpy skating wasn't possible, and then it rained and the skate trial had 3 inches of water on it. This year, the trail opened earlier than ever (Jan 9) and this week (Feb school break) the weather was perfect for skating! Mostly smooth ice, some bumps in some spots, but easy to avoid, and it is a lake, so to be expected. The hotel is perfect for families with kids of any age. There were many multi-generations groups here together. They do lots of kid oriented things in addition to the skating (a movie theater, DJ and dance floor, ping pong, heated indoor swimming pool, billiards, a variety of games and puzzles. Free-range kids everywhere. The restaurant serves the basics. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We ate here for one dinner, and tried the Beet salad, the pork dumplings, the soft pretzels, and the Ruben sandwich...and all were good. This place is not luxury. It has a classic historical hotel feeling about it, with lots of old photos on the walls to prove it. This place is a good value in the winter. Everything you need, friendly staff, beautiful views of the lake restaurant and bar on site for breakfast, lunch and dinner so if you don't want to leave once you get here, there is no need to. I love this place!
