I'm a wedding photographer located in Massachusetts. I travel all over New England for weddings, and so happened to be hired for a wedding in July of 2015 in Waitsfield, VT. The bride and groom put me up at the Featherbed Inn, and I couldn't be more happy. First off, when I first drove in I was ecstatic. The view is so beautiful with the mountains in the background, and the wonderfully kept grounds. They have a horse, and cats and dogs all over. As an animal lover, I was so happy. The owners were incredibly welcoming and sweet. My room was perfect, the bed was so comfortable! I even had my own bathroom. Everything was spotless and clean. The owners also cook breakfast everyday, and it's different each day. Oh my goodness, the food was so delicious! One of the days I had fresh jam, and I wanted to take some home. I highly, highly recommend this place for either a nice weekend getaway, or if you're looking for a place to stay while attending an event in the area.

As local as it gets - kitchen scraps go to the pigs down the street and the Inn gets amazing bacon!

We had a wonderful weekend at the Featherbed Inn with a group of friends. Mick and Karen are warm and welcoming innkeepers, and the Inn itself is beautiful and comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing: puff pancakes, incredible scones, excellent coffee... Mick and Karen go above and beyond - from socializing and chatting with the guests to inviting us along to feed the pigs at the neighboring farm! We will definitely be back!

Monte and Lori were incredibly hospitable and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The inn itself was picturesque, cozy, and elegant (think GIlmore Girls in Vermont). If you're looking for a serene getaway with delicious food and warm, welcoming hosts, the Yellow Farmhouse Inn is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!

We loved the historic town of Waitsfield. Sugarbush is only 15 minutes away. Another day we had a lovely drive to the Van Trapp resort where we cross country skied. It's a very relaxing place to stay. Lori recommended three very good nearby restaurants for dinner.

The food was suburb! Lots of farm to table meals, and home cooked baked goods too. The staff went above and beyond creating plates just for me, a vegan, and for our girlfriend who is gluten free. I was treated to specially made vegan enchiladas for Cinco de Mayo, incredible tofu masala, tasty shashuka without the egg, Vermont maple soaked oats, and a memorable pineapple coconut rice pudding. Margaritas and Old Fashions were great, and the Heady Topper was free-flowing! Oh yessss! I loved fact that they use local fan favorite Fox Hollow Apple Cider too! Go for the cran-apple juice! Yum! The wedding was absolutely stunning! The ceremony was on the grass under the pretty arbor. The cocktail hour was on the terrace with passed hors d'oeuvrs, and the reception was in the round barn. Just gorgeous! The coordinator was on top of everything! I mean everything! Rehearsal, to hand-lettering, to fixing the bride's gown. Awesome job! The rooms were so lovely and each had their own personality. Some has a jacuzzi tub, all showers included a seat, which we love, and each room had a fireplace. I couldn't help but imagine how super romantic it would be laying in bed with that fireplace blaring on ones of those frigid, but beautiful snow-filled Vermont nights. Made me want to return late fall and around the holidays! The beds were super comfortable and our bed in "Dana" was a four post elevated, which required stairs. Loved it! We also had lovely views of The Green Mountains from our bed and there was a vaulted ceiling and a loft too. Wine glasses left for us also. We were very happy with Dana as our choice for rooms. No detail was overlooked here. I loved the black embroidered makeup towel for the ladies to use for face washing. The lovely toiletries were nice also. The warming tray for their hand made ceramic mugs...nice touch! The dining area was cozy, as was the game room where we enjoyed games of checkers and diving into one of the many books in the library. The staff were all wonderful and overly accommodating in every way possible. Check in was simple. Checking out even easier. We felt so safe and at home here we didn't even lock our room or use our key. The area is fantastic! It's right near Sugarbush for some skiing. There was even some snow left on the mountain early May! Warren Falls and National Green Mountain Forest is just down the road where the hiking is great, and the moose crossing signs are out! Warren Falls is great for families and has a swimming hole. Moss Glenn just a bit farther is a super impressive waterfall. Woodstock/Queeche, my favorite town in Vermont is just a half hour away and Stowe is about 40 minutes. Lots to do in both! I would absolutely come here again! Everything was pure bliss. The only mishaps which I should mention, but it didn't personally bother me one bit was that the power went out during a pretty bad storm. The rain pounding on that old roof so loudly and passionately....I thought it was super romantic! The staff was very well prepared with lanterns and flashlights, which actually makes me feel this isn't their first rodeo. Just a heads up. Highly, highly recommend for first timers to Vermont, for an iconic New England experience. It's equally as great for old pros who love the outdoors and need to reconnect with nature and/or one another, and for brides! It's definitely not cheap, but if definitely shows. It's a unique and special venue. Perfection.

Beautiful place, lots of charm, love the antiques! Lovely rooms! The tea and coffee stations were superb...I'm a diehard coffee drinker but the tea station (selections and dainty china teacups) hooked me. The yummy homemade cookies, ice water, snacks and sodas were such lovely touches! The books, history, information, touristy flyers etc WOW! Curl up by a fireplace or fire pit, sink into a chair, kick off your shoes (oops, right they were already off and left at the door!) revised that early escape plan .....I did not want to leave! Breakfast was beyond amazing and delicious (omelet-eye rolling fresh gooey cheese, and fresh fruit.) The other guests were mostly returning guest or friend of someone who had stayed here. Friendliest people ever! Felt very at home with this entire way too short stay. The total kicker for me was when I returned home....took 425 leaf peeping and Vermont photos and the only ones I truly loved and felt were spectacular were taken in the back yard of the Mad River Tavern!!! Loved this so much that I am Seriously rethinking my February birthday trip NH and my usual place (15 years)....it was that wonderful of a stay at the Mad River Inn. My boyfriend and I are in our late 20's and wanted to stay somewhere a little more modern than what other B&Bs have to offer. There is also tea, coffee and evening port available as well! The bathtub even had a tray you can use to read your book while relaxing. The breakfast was amazing. Everything was fresh and delicious and perfect-size portions. The common areas were very comfortable, and we felt welcome to use them. Sometimes at B&B's you feel like you're in someone's living room, but this felt like usable guest space. We enjoyed the tea from Vermont Liberty Tea Co., and were especially excited to arrive back at the B&B late one evening to a platter of brownies in the dining room! (Linda was kind enough to share the recipe, though after seeing how much butter was called for - no wonder they were so good!! - I never attempted baking them myself). Coffee on the large porch in the morning overlooking fields and a large lawn dotted with adirondack chairs provided a welcome escape from city life. Luke and Linda were very friendly and fun, eager to offer recommendations but also not intrusive. Breakfast was delicious, and Linda was patient with my friend's several special requests. The dining room included a large, long table, but also a couple of smaller tables for 2 for those who prefer more intimacy. I definitely intend to return!

(Everything is added to your bill at the end so no need for cash.) We stayed in the Garden Room, with its own entrance. It was very comfortable and made up for us every day with a little tidbit of Vermont history laid on the pillows every night. It was quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was amazing! Susan is a superb cook and made a three course breakfast every morning that included dessert! You won't go hungry at West Hill! She even made up a huge carb load for the marathoners the night before and an early morning breakfast (5 am!) for the marathon runners. My husband took advantage of the breakfast so he could get off early on a hike. I waited until a civilized hour. The gardens are huge! They own the property on both sides of the road so there are multiple ponds, fountains, gazebos, chairs, and a comfy hammock! They even provided a fire pit and ingredients for S'mores. What fun! We spent one afternoon reading and napping in the gazebo in the upper garden. It was bliss. Pater and Susan are great innkeepers. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and so excited to share their home. We met some wonderful people and they encouraged conversation. It was like a family for those few days. TIPS: The cats do not go in the rooms, however if you are severely allergic you may not want to stay here. Definitely let them know if you have any food preferences or allergies--they are very knowledgeable and accommodating of dietary needs! They are not kidding when they say to let them know if you want reservations at a local restaurant--they will call and make them for you. I can't recommend them highly enough!
