Payless Auto Glass on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford was highly recommended to me by the collision center I took my car to, located just a few blocks down the street. I was told the had lower prices than Safelite. Therefore, I was in a state of shock when Payless told me I would be charged $498 for a window replacement, especially when Safelite in West Harford quoted a total price of $297 for the SAME job. What could I do? Of course, they had already installed the glass. Payless finally lowered the cost $388.18. THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE NAME OF THE COMPANY BECAUSE I PAID A LOT MORE, NOT LESS. read more

i scheduled a windshield replacement. Went and paid cash in person for windshield replacement. Windshield never got installed. Called to ask about it (Saturday) and the GUY who answered the phone stated that he was in his living room and couldn't help me. He was very rude and unprofessional. I may not do business here again. Customer service is what businesses should take pride in. I myself own a business and would NEVER treat any of my customers this way ESPECIALLY if they have already prepaid for the work to be performed. read more

They do nice glass work. But if you drive a car that's 2015 and newer I do not recommend. They basically turned my TLX Advance into a base model. My lane assist no longer works properly. Worst part was Acura recommended me here. Turns out there is a service bulletin on Honda/Acura not to use aftermarket glass. Well they put an aftermarket windshield in my car and now it doesn't work properly. I wouldn't have rated them so bad but when I called to let them know it wasn't working properly the guys response was "what do you want me to do about it". This place is a scam and I would never recommend unless you have a basic car. My car was $50k and now has the features of a base 30k car. Thanks for nothing. I'm scheduled to have the OEM glass put in so it works properly. I'll update this once it's complete to see if that solves the issue. read more

Horrible after 5 almost 6 hours of waiting for my car I got it back. It shouldn't take someone 20 mins to test drive the car and come back. By far the worst experience I ever had. No one called to say anything was wrong with the car or anything just took their damn time. Awful read more

WORST SERVICE EVER RECEIVED. Its been 3 weeks and I still don't have my window fixed. They Are SLOPPY !!!!! 1st time they installed the wrong window. (Took off work in order to fit there window) 2nd time Arrived with the incorrect window (Also took off work) 3rd time, Installed what might be the right or incorrect window on my BMW COUPE, not convertible and removed my VIN and did an extremely sloppy job. Currently having my insurance attempt to transfer me over to a more reliable company. If I would have know about safelite auto glass i would have went there first. Would never recommend them to anyone, hopefully this other company does a better job and can fix the mess they had made. Currently status still not fixed. read more

I was working in Hartford for a while and this glass shop was near my office when i needed my subaru windshield replaced.. i called them up and they ordered the glass - I dropped off my car in the morning and it was done a few hours later. can't beat that! very nice people at the shop, super quick turn around, and a clean shop .. what more could you ask for? the windshield they put in looked like the one from the dealer and has held up great so far! i think payless has other locations around the area and i have seen their trucks on the road around new england. read more

I got an online quote for a replacement windshield for my Subaru and the price was good. I ordered the glass and set a time for installation. I choose a time THEY offered. I printed my reciept with the price and it says it will be $204.44 INSTALLED. I had requested a phone confirmation. I waited and nothing happened- no phone call and no one showed up during my appointment time. So I call and the guy says we need a day. What? I was OFFERED that time. And get this- he said he didnt know the price I was given but he was looking at $ 230.00. WHAT?? He said the moulding was extra and tax. My receipt says 204.44 INSTALLED! I should not be charged extra for moulding! Anyway, I will not be suckered in a bait and switch! I called Plymouth Glass in Thomaston and the man said it would be $ 173.00 INSTALLED at my house plus tax with moulding included and no hidden costs. Thats what I like- an honest company! read more

No complaints thus far. My windshield was smashed on the highway by ice that flew from a car that did not clean before getting on the highway of course they did not stop. I Called Allstate glass dept at 11am and was immediately connected to Payless Steve asked if I could get there before 5 i stated I could. Got the car there at 1 and received a call at 3 that the window was in but it was the wrong one (My fault for giving incorrect accessorie info) Maria was very nice and accomodating offering to keep my car locked in a safe place until the new winshield arrived even though it was my error she was more than kind. The next morning at 10am my winshield was fixed. Payless will get many referrals from me. read more

My windshield has had cracks in it since I purchased it over a year ago. Having just moved from a warmer climate to a place that expects snow every year, I figured it was time to get it fixed. I called a couple of places and these guys gave me the cheapest price AND they would come out to my house. Awesome! The morning of the scheduled repair came and I hadn't heard from their driver like they said I would. I called and they said they had a bit of a mix up that morning but would call me right back as soon as they had it figured out. About an hour later I'm a bit miffed but they call back and ask if I can bring it in, apologizing for the hassle repeatedly. Sighing, I agree and get in the truck. What I come to find out is that their driver screwed up the night before, breaking a van full of glass then leaving the delivery van in the lot without the keys and no word as to his whereabouts. So they are without a driver and trying to catch up on all their scheduled deliveries and repairs. (Mind you, I'm just overhearing the guys trying to work this out amongst themselves). I comment on their discussion and we end up having really pleasant conversation for the duration of my sit in their lobby (I was there less than an hour from arrival to departure). Their customer service was excellent, both with me and the spanish speaking family that arrived after I did. One of the guys behind the counter was helping him get in touch with his insurance and doing his best with what was clearly broken spanish. My new windshield looks awesome and I'm sending my partner to them to fix his too. read more

I discovered a horrific crack across my windshield one night while driving that decided to keep spreading. Being on a budget without glass coverage I was a little worried about the cost. I got a quote from Safelite auto glass of 250.00 after all was said and done. I would have had to bring it to their shop, and wait around until it was safe to drive. I decided to keep shopping around for a better price. I came across Payless Auto Glass on my search. The thing that drew me to them was that they would come out to me to do the work instead of me having to bring my car somewhere....and it was significantly cheaper than Safelite. I gave them a call and talked to a guy who was very helpful and made an appointment. They gave me a time slot of 8-5. I was off of work that day anyway and was planning to stay home so it didn't really matter to me when they came. But I can see how that could be irritating for some people. He said to call the morning of my appointment and they would give me a definite time. They showed up at a reasonable time and were very quick....way less than the time Safelite said it would take. And the best part was I got to wait in my nice warm living room instead of at a shop somewhere sitting on a hard chair reading outdated magazines. Also, My windshield came with a lifetime warranty. I called and made an appointment for payless to come to my house,2 days prior to my appointment I called and they confirmed, they said they would be there after 1:00 so I took a vacation day and wasted a vacation day waiting. at 4:30 I called to make sure they were still coming they said the tech was in newtown and would call when he was on his way to my house it is now 9:15 pm no call/no show. how disrespectful to treat a customer, tomorrow I will be calling my insurance company to see who else I would be covered to use that is more professional than the Hartford payless. read more
