Amazing experience for our last minute need for boarding our baby girl. I had two phone calls with…read moreAbby, the manager, and felt so uneasy bringing our girl. Abby was short and came off as rude, buuuuttt at the location she and all the staff were so kind. Perhaps they just get busy on the phone. Glad I didn't choose our other option. The outside of the building leaves a lot to be desired but yes, you are in the right place! Highly recommend. When we need boarding in Charleston we'll come back here

I also called multiple times to discuss payments and inform them of her anxiety. My veterinarian confirmed she is not an aggressive dog but can be protective in my presence. To also mention- my veterinarian (knowing how my dog is) actually recommended that I take my dog to Charleston Dog House, so I truly thought my dog would be in great hands with her anxious tendencies. When we arrived, the atmosphere was chaotic, with loud and unsettling animal noises. To my shock, I observed a staff member screaming at the dogs. My dog, understandably anxious, began barking and hiding behind me. A staff member attempted to reach for her despite her clear discomfort. My dog barked but did not lunge--an interaction I witnessed directly. The staff's response was unprofessional, with one member yelling and another observing her as though she were a major issue. After completing the paperwork, I was told rudely that they would call me in 5-10 minutes to decide if my dog could stay, depending on her behavior. This possibility had never been mentioned before, which was especially concerning as I was about to leave for a trip to Florida. Feeling uneasy, I returned to my car, where I began to cry--both because of how scared my dog was and how cold and unhelpful the staff had been. Just two minutes later, a staff member knocked on my car window to demand I retrieve my dog because she wouldn't move from the lobby. They gave her no time to adjust and didn't even offer to let me walk her back to help ease the transition. I explained to the staff that this situation was incredibly stressful and inconvenient, as I was set to leave for Florida within the hour. I shared that our vet has handled my dog without me present and described her as calm once I'm out of sight. None of this seemed to matter. What upset me further was when my father called to inquire about a solution. The staff falsely claimed my dog was jumping on and biting them--something they never mentioned to me at any point. This misrepresentation of events and lack of transparency were unacceptable. Fortunately, I was able to find another facility in Walt Disney World that, within five minutes, made me feel far more at ease than Charleston Dog House ever did. The difference in professionalism and compassion was night and day. Charleston Dog House turned my dog away after only two minutes, citing "separation anxiety" without attempting any accommodations. Their lack of patience, compassion, and professionalism caused undue stress for both me and my dog. I would not recommend this facility to anyone, especially those with anxious or first-time boarding dogs.

They do a great job, very by the book, and always have the dogs smelling great when you pick them up. It's a little thing, but to me all the little things out up to one big thing! While our dogs were there, we got no communication or indication of anything. When my boyfriend picked our pups up, he felt extremely rushed because of the line and didn't get to talk long to anyone about their stay. I ended up calling myself and literally had to "prod" for answers about how everything went. Only got "they did well" and no details of anything. I know no news is good news, but I could've used a little more detail instead of one word answers and me being the only one talking. The icing on the cake was when our dogs came home, the one who was w other dogs got EXTREMELY sick and the other who was in private play caught the bug 24 hours later from the first. We know anxiety poops after change of scenery/boarding/etc. this was NOT that and our vet needed to prescribe antibiotics because it continued to last into a week and wasn't getting any better. Not saying the bug is anyones fault, but it's the last straw I needed to never go back. Thanks but no thanks!

One needed to be shaved, the other just needed a bath. Kimberlee and her husband worked on my dogs and I was very pleased. The dog that needed to be shaved needed a few touch ups that I noticed when I arrived to pick them up, but that was NO issue and when I was being too picky, Kim even let me just use the trimmer myself. There were a few spots on the belly that were missed, but it was fine hair, so I wasn't overly worried. I was most pleased at getting the other dog bathed because she also did something to him that almost stopped his shedding! I don't know what magic it was, but it is amazing! She also cut down his nails more at my request. She only accepted cash, which wasn't a huge ordeal, but I did have to walk across the parking lot to the Sunoco to get cash. For a complete shave and baths for both pups, nails trimmed, and whatever else she includes, it was only $60, which was what I paid for a shave only at a place in Goose Creek.

However, Barky Bow Wows is behind another building, so it is hard to see (if not impossible directly from the road). The building isn't nice, however, that doesn't matter to me, because my dog doesn't need to get groomed in a newly renovated building. Just don't expect to step foot into a lovely salon. There are also no items to purchase for your dog or cat like in a lot of other grooming salons I have been to. This may be a downside. Welcome: The two groomers (and owners, I think), greeted me right when I walked in. They were very friendly and attentive. Pick-Up: Both of the groomers were in the back. A call bell or bell on the door may be beneficial so they are aware right when costumers walk in. Groomer's Review: My yorkie-poo was ready for pick-up after three hours (on a Saturday). He seemed to be very content as if he had been treated well. The groomers did exactly what I asked for. My dog is incredibly handsome with a great cut
