Every time I go there in person it is fairly clean, and the staff are frazzled, but friendly enough. They always seem overworked and like they need more staff in the 10 or more years I've been going there, and they almost never answer their phones so it's very hard to ask questions or make an appointment. I wonder how many more people they could reach if they just answered their phones (clinic side especially, rescue side is a smidge better)?! Heck I'll do it, I'd even take minimum wage to do it. FYI they only take animals in from the Animal Control next door, so owner surrenders or found animals have to go through Animal Control. I found this kitten in Jason's Deli parking lot emaciated and missing an eye but mewing and coming up to us for help. We named him Ragetti and called the rescue to tell them how absolutely sweet he was, and they told us to surrender him to Animal Control then call them so they can pick him up. Animal Control said they would normally euthanize injured feral cats, but I insisted he was sweet to everyone and deserved a chance and stayed until PAWS picked him up! After they fixed his eye we visited him at the shelter as he gained weight so he would stay socialized and sweet, and he was adopted within a couple of weeks ! read more

We fostered a dog from Paws Humane Society for two weeks and then officially adopted the dog two weeks later. Unfortunately, after the adoption, the dog attacked our child and other animals in our home. Our adoption contract states that Paws Humane Society would take the dog back if necessary. We were initially told that we could return the dog, but once they realized we live in Alabama rather than Georgia, they refused to honor what we had been told and did not follow through with the terms outlined in the contract. Rather than working with us to resolve the situation, Paws Humane Society proceeded to take us to court, resulting in significant legal expenses and financial hardship for our family. This was especially disappointing because our intention from the beginning was to support a local organization and provide a home for a dog in need. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage others to carefully review all contracts, policies, and return provisions before adopting. We felt unsupported during a difficult situation and believe Paws Humane Society failed to uphold the commitments outlined in its own agreement. read more

Called Friday about 2 puppies that were dumped in our yard. Told them we had given them a flea bath because they were covered in fleas. We were told no problem, bring them in. Get here Saturday, and suddenly they won't take them because a flea bath means we have taken ownership???? WTAF. I cannot afford 2 puppies. Negative -10 review these fuckers owe me stars. I've tried calling Paw Humane Society numerous times, and it is almost impossible to get anyone to pick up the phone or respond. No matter which line you try, there's never an answer. I even reached out about a stray dog that needed help, and nobody came out. It's extremely frustrating, especially considering the fact that they just had a big revamp and promote themselves heavily with events like "Bark for Blues" festivals to get dogs adopted. They clearly put effort into marketing, but when it comes to the basic responsibility of answering calls and helping the community, they are failing. I am so thankful for The Pit Fix program offered by Paws! We rescued a mama pit mix and her two puppies. We were able to get her fixed for free because of these wonderful people. I also had a stray cat show up at my house that I started feeding. He was an unaltered male kitten that I was able to have neutered for just $35 dollars through another program. This is an amazing organization and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate Paws Truly helping save lives! read more

You guy's never pick up the phone. You claim to rescue animals but you won't pickup the phone. You ask us to make appointments for service; but won't pickup the phone. The only portion of the building I can ever get to answer the phone is the adoption center. You have people offering in reviews here to make it their sole job to pick up the phone for minimum wage; but you won't pick up the phone. Maybe 1 out of every 20 times you pick up the phone. I've stood inside the lobby before, observed it being empty and the staff doing nothing excepting chatting amongst themselves, walked back to the car and called the vet clinic and they will give me a "we are assisting other customers" line on their answering machine. At some point you've really got to question what you are doing working here if you don't value having business. read more

They never fucking answer when you call the vet clinic. Why do you even have the option to make a call to make an appointment? Just leave your email on there only. I physically had to drive over and get and appointment one time, and they aren't even that busy. There were 3 front desk ladies and there were times when 2 of those ladies were just staring at their monitors, I'm sure doing something but more important than a patient trying to make an appointment? Making an appointment takes less than 5 mins... Getting in contact with the front desk AT HOME is a fucking joke and needs to get improved. read more

I applied to adopt a kitten and was told i could come in and get her. I drove all the way from Phenix City just for the (rude) lady to tell me she had a vet hold and i couldn't adopt her. They hardly apologized for wasting my time and gas. Then they adopted her out without even giving me a chance to adopt her. These people are rude and unprofessional. read more

I got hired on as a animal care technician. These people are soo wrong they have about 5 team leads in the back along with other new employees anyone who was there before they hired in their new employees were basically considered leads . They literally are so LAZY!!! the will make the new people do the WORST work while they go up front just to sit on the phone and computer all day . I literally quit my FIRST DAY !!! Because for $10 an Hour I'm not cleaning 20-30 rooms by myself . The staff in here is awfully rude. My boyfriend and I were in there looking at a kitten we wanted to adopt and I was trying to ask question about her because there was no information posted anywhere. While asking questions, I was given very rude remarks when all I wanted to know was when the sweet baby would be available to adopt. Paws is by far the best, safest and cleanest shelter in the surrounding area to adopt/foster from! Sally the foster coordinator always is so genuine, kind and thoughtful when I foster! I called during business hours posted on their website but got voicemail saying they were closed. I had just rescued a mud-caked stray young cat literally at death's door and needed direction on what I should do. If they cannot staff the facility during posted hours, I would not trust them to care for animals. Certainly should not say they rescue animals. read more

PAWS Humane is one of the best shelters I have ever been to and I can't wait to attend volunteer orientation so I can help in a greater capacity! The facilities are clean, the staff are caring and knowledgeable and they work with Columbus Animal Control to save even more animals. My feedback is more aimed at this agency's volunteer coordination rather than the services they provide. No doubt, PAWS Humane provides a great service to the community and the animals it helps rescue. However, my experience with trying to become a volunteer has left a bad taste in my mouth. Volunteer orientation for new volunteers is held approx. once/twice per month and I'd RSVP'd to attend a recent scheduled orientation. Due to circumstances out of my hands, I arrived at PAWS approx. 6 minutes after the scheduled start time for orientation and I hurried in to the building to make sure I didn't miss anything else. When I asked to be directed to the room the orientation was taking place in, I was informed that the doors are locked at the start time and they do not accommodate anyone arriving after the doors are locked. My only option was to come back at the next orientation--weeks from that date. Very, very frustrating--I understand if I was significantly late and would have clearly missed a lot of the orientation information, but the impression I'm walking away with is that PAWS is clearly not much in need of volunteers. There are other rescues/shelters in the area who are likely much more in need of volunteers and resources than PAWS is and I know I will be spending my time and energy volunteering at a different shelter that might be more in need of volunteers and thus more gracious towards folks trying to give their time to help. read more

Wow. Love this shelter, the dogs are in a safe and humane shelter. I had such a great experience visiting it that I decided to volunteer. The program is awesome, I go in whenever I have time and the staff is always very knowledgable and helpful. I do the running buddy program where I check out dogs and take them out to run at different parks. I always have new and excited running buddy! :) read more

I have been here several time looking at one specific dog. One thing I noticed while I was there is that the manager, Stacy, remembered me and took time out of her busy schedule to fully make sure I got what I needed. The reason I would come back is because of her management skills and how caring she and the staff are to me. It's rare to find a manager that will help her staff. Was not screened fairly. When I showed interest in a poodle mix dog, they did not offer me to meet and greet the dog. They did not ask me appropriate questions like "how old are you? What's your plan with the dog? What type of household do you have? Or how do you plan to manage allergies if a family member is allergic?" They called a family member reported on my application to see if they were ok with having a dog in the house.When my family member asked if the dog was hypoallergenic and how big the dog is, they were not able to answer any of the questions and automatically denied my application while completing the next candidate's adoption app. My family member was asking questions to assure the dog I was interested in met our family needs such as hypoallergenic and small to medium sized. PAWS did not administer a thorough and accurate evaluation before moving on to the next candidate and I find it very discriminating. Twas my first time at PAWS and my first time looking for a dog to adopt. I was not impressed at all with them, and at this time I do not feel comfortable supporting them. read more

I don't no about all the vet but one that needs to go back to the university no kill the first thing she wanted to do was kill a 6 week old cute puppy said that the clear fluid run out of cut was bad. Told them no bad smell eating take pee and poo gums not pale told me that he had septic and leg was broke he was not either one septic takes about 2 weeks and when they just got bit she no who see is and she need to go get a lot more schooling how about that you must have been to a cheap school one we need to see your grades. Then they call dog pound to tell me that if I didn't take dog to vet by this day I was get a 1000 dollar fine and jail for being mean this dog was happy and doing 100 percent better until then tell me I could get him then if I take him I might go to jail thank you 2nd Ave for letting me no that I was not stupid and I new something that miss university didn't no you can you I will never take a living animal here again to there not worth 150.00 dollars to help they told it was going to cost 1000.00 to fix him lie lie you almost killed my friends baby for a 150.00 fix thanks to the one person that really went out her way to help her and that cute little dog read more

PAWS is a wonderful organization who keeps all animals until they find their forever home. It is unfortunate that PAWS cannot take ALL animals abandoned and unwanted in Columbus, but they take the ones they can. Please support spay and neutering and your local shelter. AND some of the PAWS animals for adoption can be found every Saturday at PETCO (not Petsmart). I have two animals that I have adopted through the humane society before they merged with paws. They are wonderful pets. I recommend adopting a shelter pet for your family. But... God forbid you have helped save an animal and need to take it to them so they can find it a home. They always say they are full but if they don't tAke in animals how can they be sooo full all the time.?! They have tons of fosters that they could use to lighten the load but noooo they choose to reject these poor pets that could really use their help. Another thing,... They overcharge you for a specific breed. If it looks full blooded they want two hundred or more for an adoption fee and I only paid 60 for both of mine. If they would just charge 100 bucks no matter the breed or speciAl reason they would be able to find homes faster and for more animals! But all they care about is turning away pets that need them. In my opinion they need new management and should be shut down until they get their priorities straight! But I will continue to adopt from them only because the pets need homes not because they run a respectable shelter because they dont have my respect! read more
