Finally settled down after our short vacations, the girls set up a lunch date at Pawpaw. By the time we found the place, we were all famished and everything on the menu looked delicious. I had a hard time deciding, but ended up getting the Quinoa and Potato Hash Cakes (13.5), which I didn't regret! If you haven't already realized my love for potatoes - well, it's another one of my order-deciders (besides mushroom). The potato hash cakes were crispy on the outside and steamy hot on the inside. I was pleasantly surprised that they weren't lacking in flavour either, especially with the haloumi steaks. I wasn't that big of a fan of the beetroot relish, so the dish was a bit dry. I was wishing there were more sprigs of the veggie, but overall, I was happy with my order. I didn't end up ordering a coffee, as I had one earlier that day at Flick 'n' Bean, but I got to try the iced mocha, which was a bit sweet, but non-grainy and delicious nonetheless. I didn't know a vegan green curry could be just as delicious as a regular green curry. It was so good to the point I wanted an extra serving of rice to make the curry last longer haha. What can I say about Paw Paw. Paw Paw Cafe is amazing! Nothing to it. They have a great selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they are also have good coffee and drinks - e.g. juice and cocktails. It's one of those places that always have a crowd any time of day - or Uber eats or Deliveroo workers coming in and out. And omg I would love to have this take away too if I lived closer. In saying that parking is on the street unless you're lucky to grab a space in their tiny car park. The staff are just as helpful, and Paw Paw hosts events and parties here at times, just look at their website on what they have to offer. Amazing little restaurant in Woolloongabba with a great atmosphere. Had the Salmon which was amazing and cooked perfectly, we also had the hash brown and they where very nice also. Wait staff suggested the salmon, that choice and everything else about them was amazing. We had this great little red headed girl serve us and she was fantastic. Their rendition of avocado on toast was fun enough, and certainly didn't skimp on the avocado. The chocolate peanut butter shake I ordered on top of it was suitably sweet and delicious. Any café that understands the importance of an all-day breakfast is a café that I want to visit. Similarly, any café where the head chef is also the visionary behind the sporadic, roving Red Robin Supper Club is a café that I want to visit. When I got wind that these two things co-existed in newly-opened Pawpaw Café in Woolloongabba, I wasted no time in taking myself out for breakfast at 1pm last Saturday. The all-day breakfast menu has some traditional options (eggs on toast, bircher muesli, pancakes) and some "holy cow I need to try this" options. I went with the latter and tucked into some corn fritters with avocado, house-made chipotle sour cream and tomato relish. The meal may or may not have instantly found its place in my top ten breakfasts in Brisbane. My choice to have it served with a thick Campos coffee-flavoured milkshake was a bit odd, but not regretted in the slightest, because my first experience of Pawpaw just made me so very, very happy. A few girlfriends and I have been wanting to plan a catch up date and finally were able to make a date work. Then, finding a place was second. We settled on Pawpaw Cafe and I was super happy because it's been on my "Must Go To" list for quite some time. My friends had the corn fritters with bacon (which I was eyeing) and the smoked salmon breakfast board that came with avocado, toast, and lemon. I went with the Korean style baked eggs. They had coffees that they weren't too impressed with but I enjoyed my green smoothie that had mango, honey, and a few other things I can't remember in it. I think the menu is ever-changing but the corn fritters seem to be a favorite. I have to say though... I still love the Cirque ones more based on the the bite I had of my friend's. I was skeptical of the Korean style baked eggs but thought, "YOLO." I usually don't say that with food because I enjoy food and want to have a great experience. I will tell you that I did! The dish came out hot and the flavors were screaming Korean. The sausage were super tasty under the baked eggs as wells the bacon and the kimchi was perfect. I would have preferred a little bit more kimchi. I thought that with the Korean inspired dish, it should not have been served with toast. It might have been rye which is too hard and not complimentary to the sweet sausage/sour kimchi Korean flavours. I honestly think that a small side of rice or baked tomatoes would have been better. They have a unique menu and I like that. It makes me look forward to my visit but also sad that if I did fall in love with an item, that it might not be there next time! I am not sure if they do but they should keep the top favorites on the menu while others rotate on and off or if it's dependent on season. A question I should ask them next time. After I had ordered, I turned around and saw the SPECIALS board. My heart skipped a beat because I was going to be bummed if I found something else that caught my eye. Luckily, I did not. We sat next to the open window at the corner and loved it! The space was cozy and we could chat the morning away with one another. The service is pretty standard. After taking drink orders, food orders, and delivering the oder, you have to flag someone down for the check or if you need anything else. The place was busy when we arrived at 9:30am and hadn't stopped when we were leaving either. Cafes not serving all-day breakfast are a bit of a pet hate of mine. So I was wonderfully overjoyed to hear that Pawpaw Espresso were not only open all of the jubilee weekend (they are now open 7 days per week) but serve the coveted all-day breakfast as well! The menu is quite extensive with a mix of the standard fare (eggs on toast $9) but also the unusual (peanut butter and jelly French toast $14.90) and the odd daily special (today it was crumbled banana croissant with chocolate sauce $14). I went for the PB&J concoction: it was interesting. Tasty, certainly, but I don't think I would go for it again. Overall, though, we were quite happy with our meals, which were on the larger, generous side of normal; coffee (Campos) was adequately drinkable and service was prompt and efficient, even on a busy day like today. Most chefs are super happy to slightly tailor me something off the menu to be suitable for all my allergens. PawPaw fell short today, by charging me $25 for a breakfast that had less ingredients and was half the size of my partners who's cost a whole $13. I don't expect places to have a dish on the menu specifically designed for someone like me, but I do expect that my meal should not cost twice the price because I can't order something straight off the menu. There's nothing worse than ordering a meal that you can only eat one or two things off the plate and still having to pay full price. Their food was delicious, and a huge kudos to our waitress for her persistence in finding me something to eat, even when I started to become upset and difficult. The atmosphere here is beautiful, they have managed to draw attention away from the busy main road and focus more on their feature windows, bench tables and super comfy leather chairs. How was the coffee you ask? Well, my latte looked great, perfect texture and design, but the flavour was disappointing. Perhaps not fully extracted, it got lost within the god awful taste of the cheap soy milk. Like you're espresso? Don't be fooled, it tastes much better than it looks. Craving sweet potato fries?! COME HERE! They have the BEST sweet potato fries I've ever had! The fries have a natural sweet potato taste. It's nice and crispy on the outside and super soft in the inside! The fries came with dipping sauces: honey mustard and mayo. YUMM! I ordered the Oven Roasted Mushroom and my friend ordered the Cheese Steak Ciabatta. The oven roasted mushroom was DELISH! I've never had anything like it before. It tasted so healthy and refreshing. I really liked the kale. I've never had kale before (other than in juices and kale chips) so I was surprised at how good it tasted! The only thing that I didn't like was the goats cheese spread on the bread. I had to remove some of it off. It just was a personal preference! I visited this place last Sunday. I had listen good things about this place but I am quite disappointed now. After being seated, we needed to wait more than 30 or 40 minutes for the food and when the food was cold. I asked to my partner if it was a cold dish or something but apparently not. Tucked away in the backstreets of Woolloongabba is the little gem that is Pawpaw Cafe. Noticed purely by accident in a hunt for lunch, it can be a little difficult to find with the entrance around the back of the building, there is a small sign on the footpath and a glowing orange neon sign on the outside. The building has an outback shack but homey feel with corrugated tin exterior and large open windows. This ambience is matched by the food menu, offering a range of the usual breakfast and lunch options but with some nice creative touches. Standouts include the Son-in-law Eggs - Thai style fried eggs, fragrant rice, crispy onions, fresh herbs and tamarind sauce, the Mexican Baked Eggs" - Mexican spiced tomato sauce, baked eggs, melting cheese, jalapenos, radish and fresh herbs with house-made tortilla chips, and the Spiced Chicken Ciabatta - Chermoula spiced chicken breast, rocket, tomato, onion and roast pumpkin served with fries. Completed with quality coffee from Campos, the result is a well rounded cafe in a slightly secluded neighbourhood location. On this visit I ordered the Corn Fritters, served with chipotle sour cream, avocado, tomato relish and an added side of bacon. Ever so slightly crispy fritters but still soft on the inside, delightful. The chipotle sour cream was an interesting and great addition to the dish, combined with the avocado and the relish there was almost a sweet and sour/spicy flavour mix. If anything, the bacon was a little overcooked but that didn't detract from the dish at all. Pawpaw Cafe offers a great inconspicuous hideout in the laid back suburb of Woolloongabba, but if you can't get enough of it there's also Little Pawpaw in Kedron and Raw Pawpaw in New Farm. read more

Made my first trip to Paw Paw Cafe recently for an Unofficial Yelp Event Breakfast. I'll keep this succinct due the the numerous other reviews! - Menu was interesting and not stock standard - The wait to order wasn't long and water was brought out - Coffee was enjoyable - Food was good enough to make you finish your plate and hearty enough to make you feel like your'e about to explode when you do - Bench seats and tables, we were sat at the end of a bench and it was fine - There's a crowd on weekends, be prepared not to stay and chat afterwards - No split bills! If you feel like you're sailing in sea of mediocre breakfast, give Paw Paw Cafe a go. The cafe has just sprung up on the edge of Potts Road and the breakfast menu is well worth trying out. There is none of your standard big breakfasts, eggs benedict and scrambled eggs here, but instead all meals have an extra twist. Aside from things like corn fritters (the best she's tried, said my corn fritter connoisseur companion), or avocado on sour dough, there are fantastic specials that will open up new breakfast horizons. I tried the potatoes O'Brien to great success - fried potatoes, green peppers and poached eggs. Yum. The Campos coffee is also fantastic. The cafe also has done a great job of forgetting a busy road is right around the corner. Aside from a small fish pond out the front, large windows open out onto the quieter streets surrounding it and a lounge or two adds to the atmosphere. The 'little sister' to the well known Green Papaya restaurant, Pawpaw Cafe is a little chic abode at the back of the Stanely Street restaurant serving, most importantly, an all day breakfast. With the kitchen headed up by Rory Doyle of Red Robin Supper Club notoriety you can be sure of two things: 1) you're food is going to be inventively delicious and 2) never boring. See examples of a breakfast burrito or the lunch time gnocchi for example. I suggest settling in to the chocolate leather lounge against a Florence Broadhurst wall paper with the weekend papers, sip your Campos Coffee and indulge in a slow breakfast. Hmmmm....maybe I went to another cafe than the others. Look, it was 'ok' and fairly pleasant but the food was very pedestrian for the cost. We went on a Sunday for lunch, it was quiet (which was good as we had kids), but after looking at the menu one of us went across the road to see what that place was like (cant remember the name of that joint) and the only reason we didnt move was because that place was basic also but full. Our waitress was nice, but her english was bad and then it took us 5mins to get an invoiced receipt at the end. This morning before work we thought we would try out the 'new' Paw Paw Cafe in Wooloongabba. Newly renovated, Paw Paw has a Hampton's feel about it - everything has been carefully thought out from the colours of the walls to artwork on the coffee cups. It's a huge step up from what it was before - well done Paw Paw! For breakfast, I had the Avocado plate with Pug Malt Toast, Roasted walnut hummus, tomatoes, avocado and macadamia dukkah -with added eggs. Overall it was pretty good, however being called the 'Avocado Plate' I was expecting a lot more avocado and a lot less hummus - it was a bit of an overkill, the tomatoes could have been hotter too. The eggs were beautifully cooked, which is always a bonus! The coffee - Well the coffee was amazing, they use Fonzie Abbott Coffee Roasters, which is really good - It helps when the barista knows what they are doing too. I give the coffee 10/10 I will definitely go back, especially to try out their lunch and dinner menu oh and the coco whip - don't forget about the coco whip :) read more

After moving to East Brisbane late in 2013 I was on the hunt for a new breakfast haunt. My housemate recommended that I go to Foxy Bean to get my hangover breakfast so off I stumbled with a mate to go search for our cure. To our dismay when we turned up to Foxy Bean we were devastated to find that it was shut! We were utterly appalled that we couldn't get breakfast at 2pm in the afternoon on a Sunday. What sort of a world do we live in? Being new to the area I stared out towards Dan Murphy's (never a good thing to do with a hangover) and said to my mate "Where on earth are we going to find breakfast?" As I turned around and started walking back towards Vulture St something appeared out of the corner of my eye, it was the closest thing to a mirage of water in the dessert. This little café was just hiding on this side street, windows wide open, people eating and looking merry. As I walked slowly towards Paw Paw I was completely expecting it to vanish in front of my eyes like some cruel dream. But as we stumbled in we saw the sign that would change of lives that day. ALL DAY BREAKFAST. Those magical three words that everyone wants to hear on a Sunday afternoon. I could keep writing about how amazing it was to find this place but to be fair the other reviews are a good indicator that the food here is good! I went for the scrambled eggs on sourdough (reminds me a little bit of Irish Brown Bread) with a side of bacon and relish. Every part of the meal was perfect. Not a flaw to be found. Between the food and the coffee I was in hangover heaven. After walking home feeling on top of the world I was still a little unsure whether or not Paw Paw café was all a dream. So to keep this Yelp review honest I decided to go back to Paw Paw over the weekend with a friend after a big Saturday night. Now here I was talking up how amazing my last experience was at Paw Paw so my friend was heading in with high expectations. So someone on twitter said that Paw Paw had a gourmet version of the McRib. I of course made it my mission to get there as soon as possible! Next day, bam, straight in, only to find that the sandwich I had set my heart on was a special the previous day. DENIED! But we made the best of a (not even remotely) bad situation. I had the chorizo and red cabbage and aioli sandwich with fries. Holy crap, absolutely amazing. Simple yet tasty. My wife had baked eggs with spice sofrito, fetta, chorizo and dukkah. I almost had food envy. I could easily have eaten both dishes and died happy. The service was quick and friendly, and the wait times were short. The only thing I could possibly fault was the coffee which was a bit burnt. Previously there were long delays for orders to be taken but this time a whole table of us literally got ignored for 30 minutes and it wasn't busy at the time. Actually shocked by the acute lack of service. We got the Thai Vermicelli Asian Salad and the BBQ Duck Tacos that have previously been ordered and enjoyed - but this time, honestly the standard has dropped. Really hoping things return to their previous standard; it's such a nice looking place and the vegan, gluten and dairy free options are a godsend. Hung-over on Thursday morning (don't judge) this place was a godsend. The best thick shake I've ever had can be found here. It's called the Cherry Ripe. I'm assuming it has Cherry Ripe in it, but it definitely has delicious in it, and I can't recommend it enough if you like cold, thick, sweet-but-not-too-sweet thick shakes. I got the Thai-style fried eggs, with a side of bacon. Sweet baby Jesus, it was perfect. I had no idea what Thai-style fried eggs were, but basically this meal was 2 whole fried eggs that were then cut in half on a bed of rice with a caramelized onion sauce and coriander sprinkled on top. It doesn't sound like much, and I wish I took a photo, but I couldn't wait. I can confirm it hit the spot, and was tasty. My friend got the California burrito with a side of avocado, and it was equally as impressive; I was preoccupied to look too much into it unfortunately. The only gripe I had with my encounter with Pawpaw Cafe was the wait to get seated. They weren't exactly off their feet, but it did take a while for us to get noticed and then given a seat. Visiting on a rare weekday off, there was a decent crowd for what I thought would be a quiet Monday morning. Coffees (they use Bonsoy!) were brought out fairly quickly and the food wasn't too far behind - when they're jam-packed on the weekend it can be a bit on the slow side. Every time I come here I plan to order something different but I always end up with the breakfast burrito. It's a generous serve of creamy scrambled eggs, black beans, melty cheese and salsa wrapped in a soft tortilla. It didn't let me down. (It did however defeat someone at a nearby table, I noticed... I'm not kidding when I say "generous"). My dining partner was pretty chuffed with his poached eggs and avo - the eggs were perfectly runny and it was a good-sized serve of avocado. Thanks, Pawpaw. Always busy but worth the wait. Coffees are always yum and the breakfast / brunch is delish! My girl friends and I always come here for brunch because we can order such a good variety of food. They offer vegan, veg and gluten free plus also having enough meaty things on the menu for the carnivores too. I recommend the sweet potato fries! read more

It use to be our local breaky haunt but we still make the journey in to our beloved pawpaw cafe. How could we not when they have the BEST coffee ever... CAMPOS! And I'm putting it out there, it's definitely a huge call but I'm standing by it... The BEST corn fritters you could ever taste! Other winners on the menu are the breakfast burrito, the bacon and egg roll and the Canadian breakfast. The specials are always so unique and phenomenal so definitely try them if you can pull yourself away from the original menu. Oh my! Paw Paw Cafe is a great find. So it took a while to get in there - but I do keep going to these uber cool places for breakfast on the weekends. It's busy and you will have to wait but usually there is a reason why lines are so long in Brisbane and that's because the food is good. The Israeli breakfast was fantastic (falafel, poached eggs, labna, pita bread, tomato salad and spicy hummus). My only gripe is the strange shaped plates. They are obviously the plates that are used in the Green Papaya restaurant. No doubt they work well by night when serving rice paper rolls but they don't work so well for bacon and eggs. Gripe aside, you should pay Paw Paw a visit. read more

This place is great, opened by the same people that own the Thai restaurant next door (which is also amazing). They have good food that is prepared with care and many of the ingredients are made in the cafe. Their coffee is Campos - so your call on whether that is a benefit but they have a bunch of good baristas that make the coffee well. Finding a park and sometimes a seat can be a stretch but once you are in it feels like home and you will want to stay all day. read more
