This facility has been taking care of my dogs for years and I cannot recommend it enough. I travel…read morea lot, both for work and pleasure, and don't have family in the area so it's very important to me that I have a reliable, responsible, and trustworthy facility to take care of my dogs. Mary Kay has always been wonderful. She takes a personal and vested interest in the wellbeing of my babies and communicates frequently. This last 4th of July I was going to be out of town and leaving my dogs for the first time. They are terrified of fireworks and I too was terrified to leave them. I mentioned to Mary Kay that I was nervous and she immediately responded with a long, detailed and empathetic email addressing all of the ways they handled the dogs on the fourth to make sure they were comfortable, including having loud fans and putting on talk radio for the dogs. I greatly appreciated her long and thoughtful response and the actions they took to make the dogs comfortable. All of the other staff at this location have always been friendly, attentive and responsible. I have left my dogs here for weeks at a time and they are always happy and healthy when I pick them up. My dogs are also jumpers and diggers and the staff pays special attention to these concerns and put them in the jump proof play yard. The facility is wonderful, the staff is great, their prices are fair and I wouldn't board anywhere else. I've tried other boarding facilities in the past throughout the county and none come close to Rocky Canyon

This review is a few years old (2021), but I am surprised there are not more reviews mentioning…read morekennel cough or canine flu, so here goes. My younger dog came home from Rocky Canyon with kennel cough and then gave it to my senior dog, who nearly died from it. When I called the kennel to say that she had kennel cough, I thought the owners would be concerned and surprised. Instead, I was told that, yes, they had been hearing that from a few owners who'd boarded their dogs there recently. What?! Shouldn't we have at the very least been notified? I know that infectious diseases are a risk of group boarding, but I was so surprised by the kennel's blasé attitude. It cost me at least a thousand in emergency pet bills and, thankfully, didn't result in the loss of my senior dog. We have not returned.

With my wife's family in Texas, we would spend some holidays there. We took our three poodles to…read moreMadoggy when we did. The woman who ran/owned it was a bit officious. Once, when I went to pick up my pups after a week vacation in San Antonio, my little female went (predictably) berserk when she saw me. The woman looked at me and said, in a very accusatory tone: "she only acts that way when you're around." (!!) I felt like saying "and you felt compelled to mention that because..." Anyway, as you might imagine, three dogs for a week at a time made for a VERY healthy bill (even though I brought my own food and blankets for the kids and they SHARED a kennel), and we did it for a year, year and a half. So we gave her a pretty penny. Eventually, we realized the owner was drugging our dogs. We'd pick them up, they were lethargic, seemed depressed, and on the way home to Cayucos, and once we got there, did nothing but zonk out and sleep. We found alternate arrangements for when we traveled... A couple years later, I get a phone call from this woman asking if I'd be willing to have one of my poodles impregnate her Lab so she could begin selling Labradoodles (a hot item at the time). In the course of the conversation, she says this: "you know, when I dialed this number, I expected it to no longer be in service." (!!!!) The implication being, that we (my wife and I) would no longer be living in the high rent district of Cayucos!! (Since I had the lowly profession of Cab driver I assume). VERY tactful. She may have already lost this place, from the looks of things here on Yelp. Or maybe her husband, who was in PENITENTIARY when I was dealing with her, came back and mucked up the works. Either way, good riddance to a tactless, mean spirited, irresponsible "boarding" service.
