This one operates from the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway in front of the main Harborside building, making it very convenient for those who work in Harborside or live in Urby. It doesn't seem fully complete yet, but today is their first day of operation. I just wish they had later hours and operated on the weekend. Also, similar to the Paulus Hook ferry, they only run to midtown during commute hours, and I think a few boats to midtown in the afternoon would be nice. Those complaints aside, like I said, I can never truly hate on more public transportation. NY Waterway boats are nice and comfortable, generally well kept, and obviously you can't beat the views from this ferry trip. It's quite a bit pricier than the PATH, but if you're a tourist or have people from out of town visiting, it's a ride you should definitely take.

The Harborside Ferry terminal is an example what is wrong with public transportation. A rickety…read moredysfunctional terminal 5 minutes away from a decent well functioning one. NY Waterway has very old (built in 1998) and decrepit ferries docking there only to drum up foot traffic for McCali's new waterfront project (currently an empty pointless space). The terminal often has broken ticket machines, and does not look very safe. There are men constantly repairing what appears to be a temporary and hastily constructed structure. You have to wait for the ferry in the rain, snow, or sweltering sun, when there is a perfectly good terminal building, with restrooms, and more connections five minutes away in Paulus Hook. I suspect that the only reason the rickety terminal even exists is because, according to the New York Times, NJ Transit subsidizes additional NY Waterway routes, even when they make no sense, and even when the service is very bad. Tax subsidized corporate greed and bad service.

Do not get distracted by people who look like they work for the terminal authority they are just trying to lock you in on a paid tour to Statue of Liberty. So just stay focus, and get in line for the free ride to Staten Island. Also don't panic these ferry boats are insanely big so you will find a spot to get the views you want. If you leave from NYC stick to the right side and go upstairs for the best photos. Once you've made it to Staten Island without any wait, you get off and roll back into another boat (SI To Manhattan) and do it all over again. If you still want to see the Liberty statue leaving from Staten Island, stick to the left. From Manhattan to SI stick to the right and try to get on the second floor. If you want to explore what's around the area a short walk will take you to Wall Street, you'll see the bull and Trinity Church (where Hamilton and Eliza and Philip are buried). Also with going inside the church even with their very strict security check -- we had to even take Apple Watches which was a first but I'm all about safety so whatever they ask, I'll gladly do it. So if near Wall Street make Trinity Church a stop just like that silly snatching bull! ;)

For food options, I would recommend getting stuff outside here, as this spot is all fast food chains like Subway or Wendy's, aside from an alright deli. The views are nice, the ferries leave on time, and it's free. Hard not to like this place, even with the obvious issues.

Excellent views looking north of downtown, including the Upper Bay, Hudson and East Rivers, and the BMW Bridges. Looking south, Ellis Island, the Upper Bay, Statue of Liberty, Governors Island, Brooklyn, Bayonne, the Verrazano Bridge and Staten Island. Takes about an hour for a round trip- you must leave the ship on each side of the ride and then re-board on the next outgoing ship. Each crossing takes about 20 minutes and about a 20 minute layover at the terminal. Lots of outside viewpoints around the ships, including the fore and aft boarding areas. Not as comprehensive as the Circle Line, but something that must be experienced when sightseeing in Manhattan or with a friend commuting from Staten Island!!

It just takes about 20ish minutes of a wait time to wait in between. Overall, a good way to visit Staten Island and a good way to do some sight seeing without paying for a tour.

Because of the volume of visitors and the responsibility of providing a service to a public site, we found the round-trip cost of $52.60 for two adults, to be quite reasonable. I bought my tickets on-line direct from their official website: https://statuecitycruises.com. By buying the tickets early, two additional add-ons (entry into the pedestal, entry into the crown) are available (pretty much for the same price). The crown is especially popular and limited, with reservations being sold out one month in advance. The pedestal seems to be sold out more on weekends, especially if only reserving a day before...indicating that walk-ups won't be able to get it. We found this to be the case, with the majority of island visitors not being able to enter the pedestal. One can start the journey at two different places: Battery Park in Manhattan or Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Then one is given a choice of normal, pedestal (if available), or crown (if available). Every ticket also includes a trip to Ellis Island (all the boats leaving from Battery Park make a round-trip, stopping first at Liberty Island, then at Ellis Island). I did notice a final option, called 'Ellis Island Hardhat Tour' for $81, which is the only way to get a guided tour of the 750 bed hospital complex at the South end of the island. Good communication via email and text are provided. A QR code is given to you via email, and is used as your ticket. The visit was great and definitely would recommend going as early as possible to beat both the afternoon heat and crowds. One is taken via a winding path to the dock, mainly to allow the creation of a queue once it got busy. One has to go through airport-like security first (x-ray for your things, metal detector for yourself), then wait in another line to board the next boat. Status City Cruises operates 12 vessels, from passenger sizes of 500 to over 1,000. On our outbound trip, we were one of the last ones to get on, so it was standing room only for us in the main indoor area. In it, there is a concession stand selling drinks and snacks. The journey to Liberty Island was only 12 minutes, and there are some great picture opportunities around the harbor if near a window. After Liberty Island, the next stop is Ellis Island, taking about 13 minutes. We mistakenly thought we needed tickets...in reality, it is all inclusive...but we were both exhausted. The trip back to Battery Park from Ellis Island took 15 minutes. The boat ride is very calm and well managed. Notes: The parent company is Hornblower Group, HQed in San Francisco, specializing in maritime tours, experiences, and transportation. After declaring bankruptcy in 2024, and being sold, the company was rebranded as City Experiences. Their most branded are Statue City Cruises, Alcatraz City Cruise (another instance like Statue City Cruises where they are the official concessionaire of the National Park Service), and Niagara City Cruises. All in all, City Cruises operates out of 19 different ports across the US/Canada. It also operates NYC Ferry, 6 routes connecting 25 ferry piers across the 5 boroughs of New York. It does not include the iconic Staten Island Ferry (which I just learned is free), which is still operated by the NYC department of transportation.

The only thing I didn't understand was going though airport style security at the Battery Park pier, then again when you got off on Liberty Island. I just want to make sure that I'm clear about the failed "Lowest Price Guarantee". After making two separate efforts to clarify why Precision's price quote was so high and why the Lowest Price Guarantee wasn't being honored, I went with another company. And, I'm really happy that I did. The company that earned my business, was not only comparable, but, in my opinion even superior. Muhammad's response appears to indicate that the companies that gave me price quotes were somehow inferior. Precision has been in business 18 years, and the company I went with has been in business longer. Precision's price quote was much higher than the competition and was for a Cadillac or Volvo sedan, not the beautiful new black SUV that picked up my girlfriend. Lastly, the professional chauffer that was our driver, was impeccably dressed in a black suit and tie. Our driver had over 30 years experience as a licensed, professional chauffer. This gentleman even showed up 25 minutes early! What an incredible experience! Muhammad, I truly appreciate your response and your generous offer. The purpose of this updated review was to clarify that the company that we went with, was not inferior in any way. For some reason, you referenced Uber or a taxi service in your response. I hired a superior, licensed, insured and incredibly professional competitor. Price was certainly not the only deciding factor. I'm hopeful, that this could be a learning opportunity for you and you organization in regards to your " Lowest Price Guarantee". Thank you again.
