The best way to see the city! Sit outside on top and enjoy the sights. You can go to any borough! Such a great addition to mass transit.

The Soundview Terminal Landing is located at the south end of Soundview Ave in Clason Point Park. Not easily accessible by most but very convenient for access to Manhattan @ 90th, 34th and Wall Streets, once you make the trek. This landing is accessible via the Bx27 and Bx39 buses to the last stop. There is only one ticket kiosk, so downloading and usage of the NYC Ferry app is highly recommended. The crews are extremely efficient with their drop-off and pick-up system and the app aides in avoiding missing the boat because of a line. The schedule runs roughly every 30 mins before 10:00AM and every 50mins after during weekdays and weekend service is also available. On my maiden voyage I found parking by the terminal to be extremely difficult as well as access to the kiosk. The ferry was punctual and the crew worked seamlessly through out the duration of the route. An awesome and faster alternative to the MTA's surface and subway lines with some pretty epic skyline views. Just A Note: No MetroCards accepted. The purchase of a ticket ($2.75 One-Way) grants you a transfer to an additional route. Bikes are allowed @ an additional cost of $1.00 and there is a concession counter on board.

I love public transportation in NYC, with extensive reach for a single fare. Since I moved from NY…read morethe city implemented a ferry system, which I tried -- and enjoyed -- on our recent visit. We boarded at 90th Street, walking through Carl Schurz Park. There are six different routes. Ours was the "Astoria Line" which culminates at Wall Street. Before getting off at 34th Street, the boat stopped in Astoria, Roosevelt Island and Long Island City. One can purchase tickets on the app, or through machines located at every depot. I was advised to activate our ticket right before boarding to maximize the free transfer, valid for 120 minutes (which we actually didn't need on this trip.) The one-way fare is $4.50 or $29 for a ten-trip pass. Seniors, and those with disabilities can apply for discounted fares. There's limited seating outside, with more down below. Also, a bar! Apparently, you can take your dog which my grandpup Hank, takes full advantage of.

This is a modern station and easy to use. Buy a ticket after you check the schedule. The Ferry comes and leaves at a regular pace. You can download the schedule from the internet. As I mentioned the entrance is on 89th Street on the north side of Gracie Mansion. You go up one set of stairs and then down more stairs, then head to your left to the dock. You can't miss it. I was coming from the north and there were lots of signs along the way pointing to the ferry entrance. Take in the beautiful views while you're there. Right now the flowers around Gracie Mansion are in bloom. To get to the dock you go through the garden. There's lots of work crews beautifying the whole area. The views along (and across) the East River are beautiful too. I took a lot of photos today. I'm looking forward to taking my daughter along on my next ride. She had no idea this service exists. If you live in the neighborhood and don't mind a ferry ride you should familiarize yourself with the operation. It's a great service to the community.

For the…read moreterminal itself, it's a bit dirty, and there are jerks around trying to sell tickets for a free ferry, but it's a tourist site in NYC, and there are plenty of signs telling people not to buy said tickets. For food options, I would recommend getting stuff outside here, as this spot is all fast food chains like Subway or Wendy's, aside from an alright deli. The views are nice, the ferries leave on time, and it's free. Hard not to like this place, even with the obvious issues.

Yelp Review 2025 #259:…read more Getting on the Staten Island Ferry is a good activity while in New York and it's free! But do know that thousands of people think so too. Depending on what day or time you go, the ferry could run every 30 minutes or so. This is how people from Staten Island commute to/ from work in NYC. So, get to avoid taking this ferry during rush hour in the morning and in the afternoon. I've been to New York multiple times but I'm not sure why I waited so long to hop on the ferry. We came here during the weekend so, pretty much at least 70 percent of the people waiting at Whitehall Terminal were tourists like me. It's a big terminal and has escalators and stairs. I'm sure they have elevators but I wasn't really paying attention because there was a lot of people and I wanted to make I get on the next ferry. They have concessions where you can buy food and drinks. There are restrooms. Lots of information you can read while waiting for the ferry. My biggest criticism is the lack of a better queuing system. People squeeze their way to the front so they can be first to board. The ferry is big. You're not going to run out of space. Everyone will get a nice view of the Statue of Liberty.

Just knocking one star off for how expensive the round trip ferry and parking is: $9.50 each way, and, basically $10-20 for parking garage. (See photos for details.) The garage has a some cameras but has no visible security patrol. It is poorly lit in many places. The North and South garage are managed by the same company, Little Man, and they a lot of garages in the NYC area. We used the North. The unattended garages have no dedicated security patrol. We observed what seems like a playground for mischief on the day we found the damage -- groups of kids on bicycles, and even motorcycles (without license plates) cruising around the garage. Some seemed to check out the place and park for free. Cars also were observed to be speeding around the garage. Our weekend calls to both the ferry company and Littleman parking office were not staffed, so there was no way to easily reach anyone in an emergency. Just voicemail. We reached the office manager on Monday 9/23/24 who said no liability (read contract) and she will review tapes. We also called the supervisor (Carlos, 201-217-1683) to talk about our observations and concerns -- and the damage to the car. We left a message for Carlos with our number for him to call back about the damage. Days went by and we didn't get a call back. So we called the main NJ office again a week later (9/30/24). We spoke to the person who answered and told him we didn't hear back. He said he would contact Carlos and have him call us. Again no reply from the supposed, "supervisor" Carlos or anyone. It's been two weeks since we tried to reach him. There has also been no word about the result of the office review of the tapes by the garage salesperson who works Monday - Friday. She did offer to let us go through the tapes ourself. But that is not easy mid week and they should be doing it and reporting back. Again it's been several weeks and nothing. No word. No supervisor. The car itself was parked in clear view of a camera, although the date of the vandalism is not known since the garage never even observed the damage before we contacted them. The damage was only observed by us when attempting to retrieve the car. It seems they take no responsibility and don't even want to discuss our security concerns. This is very disappointing and very lacking in security and seriousness. The garage is dimly lit and feels neglected. The lack of concern by Little Man is very noteworthy. Of course they should take responsibility for the issues at the garage. But they have not demonstrated responsible behavior or addressed the seriousness of the issue, which seems systemic.
