I am writing this review with tears in my eyes! This is not a regular person, Dr. Hyde is the closest thing to god! He is an angel. After seeing three oncologists that told my step mother she has two years to live (liver cancer with metastasis to liver), this Dr gave us so much hope and a reason to fight for her life! Luckily, he changed our plan for immediate chemo and took out the colon cancer which might have saved her life! Also, referred us to an amazing oncologist in USC Dr. Lenz. They both are incredible! I wish all people in such situation would know these two people. Dr Hyde still keeps track of all her treatments, personally calls in to check how we are doing. I admire this person! Like most here, I feel so fortunate to have found this incredible doctor and caring human being. In fact, he was so unusual to me in his welcome demeanor, I asked him why he was so different from the other doctors. He responded that when he was studying medicine in South Africa one of his teachers told him to always listen to his patient. His teacher said, "Your patient will always tell you what is wrong." It's now 26 years since he removed my breast cancer, and I haven't forgotten him. I will always be grateful to have found him. He is that good. read more

First let me start off by saying I have no professional affiliation with Dr. Hyde, or his staff, nor do I know him, his family, the staff or their families socially. I felt I HAD to insert this paragraph because otherwise this rating could seem personally "tainted". Dr. Hyde is one of the most dedicated, conscientious, and competent physicians I've ever met. His office personnel are extremely caring and compassionate. It is oblivious that they are well informed and their communication with the doctor is very connected and current. My family members under his care have received excellent treatment and followup (multiple times), and I happen to know some medical professionals who would and HAVE chosen him as their surgeon (that's how I first learned of his esteemed reputation). Dr. Hyde has the skill of an elite, very experienced surgeon. He takes his time during office visits always with ample patience. After our first experience with him; the doctor's intuition, and his calculating mind became obviously apparent. I apologize. I could be more detailed in my & my family's medical interactions with Dr. Hyde, but prefer not to because of privacy. Dr. Hyde is a great surgeon. I had to have my gallbladder removed and he was amazing. He is very caring and pays attention to you when you are concerned with anything. Staff is great and Dr. Hyde's assistant Brooke was great also. read more

Between my husband and I, Dr Hyde has performed six surgeries over the last 10 years. He is a rare find indeed as are his office staff...Jane, Michelle and Darcy. Brookes who is his PA is thorough and I know soaking up all that Dr. Hyde is teaching her. His bedside manner is impeccable, caring and "always not to worry" way of being. What a gift he is to the San Diego Community. He was divine intervention 10 years ago, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and even now with a surgery for recurring cancer he is the same human/surgeou (albeit even better) as he was when I came to him then. I have no relationship with Dr. Hyde other than the abdominal surgery he performed on me a few years ago. He repaired some intestinal surgery previously performed out-of-state. If you need to have a double mastectomy, as I did, I definitely recommend Dr. Hyde. He works very efficiently with a wonderful reconstruction surgeon, Dr. Scott Barrtlebort. I can't imagine finding better, more meticulous doctors! read more

He was very rude to my wife who was scheduled to have major reconstructive surgery with this doctor. She went in for her pre-op appointment about 7 days before her scheduled surgery and he didn't even remember who she was. I think he must be getting a bit of dementia as he is in his mid 70s. Sadly we are looking for another doctor who is caring, kind not RUDE! I would think real hard about letting this man do surgery on you. read more

Dr Hyde is an exemplary physician in every sense of the word. They don't make physicians like him anymore. He took me as an emergency case to remove my gallbladder on a Friday afternoon. He did a great job technically as well as post operatively. I could not be more pleased. Referred to Dr. Hyde by my Scripps primary physician to assess a cyst removal in the groin area which requires a skillful surgeon. Already had it removed 3 times by 3 different OBGYN's. Had all the recommended tests done by urology specialists and surgeons from Stanford. He right away said, You could have mensis? I don't do that kind of surgery. I recommend you go to (so and so). She's a urologist but you need an OBGYN. Asked him for an antibiotic as the cyst was inflamed and infected and I ran out of the last doctors antibiotics the last time the cyst was inflamed and infected. He said he doesn't write prescriptions for antibiotics or anything else unless he does surgery on you. Also made me turn over to look at my other side-totally unnecessary. NONE of the other 15 doctors who have inspected this cyst had to inspect my you know what. Very rude, unprofessional, waste of my time and copay-Very upset I'm going to be charged anything for this visit. I wouldn't let him operate on my finger. If he didn't feel confident removing this cyst, he should have just said that. Instead, he blamed the cyst problem on me being overweight (not obese), a smoker and a casual drinker. WORST doctor ever! Still searching for a confident skillful surgeon...no one has ever seen this cyst in this particular place but there is no forgiveness for insensitivity and arrogance when dealing with real people who have serious health issues. Sadly my parent was referred to Dr Hyde by Workmanscomp and maybe that was the root of the problem. Drs hate dealing with them, but it's the patient that should be the priority i would think. My parent has been working for the county almost shy of retirement, and has been in great deal of pain for an issue we assumed after waiting a long time to be referred to this Dr Hyde only after being seen by him, mind you we drove from out of town my parent in very uncomfortable pain the entire way, anyhow he told my parent and i quote "I don't know why your here i dont deal with this, and your issue isnt whats giving you pain, its something else, also if you do have this small issue, obese people like yourself, normally tend to live with it", I was in total shock. Mind you my parent is not obese, he/she would not be able to do the job he/she does if he/she was obese. But it was the way he spoke, as if he was so much better, and we were beneath him. I'm thinking here, excuse me, We may not be MDs but my parents, my husband and myself work for law enforcement, we pay our taxes, and we deserve better treatment than this. Fine, you don't handle these types of cases, understandable but don't speak to us in such a manner, it wasn't necessary and it made my parent more upset how you spoke than the fact you couldn't help. Looks like your great reviews are for your full paying patients and also maybe your better with a scalpel than your mouth. Maybe you should look into going to a conference about manners and empathy. I'll have to remember that next time I want to use my PPO and skip right over your name. read more
