I've been seeing Dr Kearse for several years. He is a good listener and very thorough. He and the nurses are all very pleasant.

The business model seems to be: overwhelmed with the amount of current patients, which results in providers who are inattentive, apathetic and oblivious to those who do not have the option to wait for a return call (since no one answers the phone) or waiting months to see a provider (nurse practitioner, and nursing staff are the exceptions): stonewalling--I showed up to make an appointment since I could not reach someone over the phone, they told me to have a seat and wait to see someone who may or may not have time for me, and gatekeeping--the providers are basically inaccessible, as the front office staff seems to have been advised to disallow access to any patient who does not comply with the office's rigid and arcane communication methods. There are no other options for patients who cannot wait for an unlikely return call or appointment too far in the future, except wait until their condition worsens and they qualify for emergency care, or to find another provider. This urology office operates at the bare minimum in terms of care, urgency, and professionalism (again, nursing staff the exception). There are real people in real pain going to Genesis for help. Healthcare is not one size fits all, with patients only getting ill when it is convenient for the doctors or office staff. This practice hasn't acknowledged the human side of medicine for years. They do not seem to have the capacity, or the initiative, to provide that level of care.

Dr. Bastuba Review Surgery date 8/4/2022…read moreThis review is 7months past the surgery date. Diagnosis: Spermatic Cord Denervation Initial visit: Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I liked the music in the lobby. I was very impressed by the time that Dr. Bastuba took to go over my medical history and specifically the issue I was seeing him for. I never felt pressured to have the surgery. Dr. Bastuba was not rushed at all and explained in detail what would need to be done and the pros and cons. Dr. Bastuba had a good personality and was reassuring that the suggested procedure could provide the needed relief I was looking for. He also explained that it was outpatient and the recovery time. Remy was very helpful through the entire process and was PA Jennifer Levine. Surgery day: All went very smoothly. Surgical Staff was very complimentary of Dr. Bastuba. I saw him before the procedure and he was very assuring that all would go well. Recovery: The area of the incision was very uncomfortable for a good month or so. To be expected as the incision was in the lower groin. Follow up appointments with PA Levine were good. Results: After the initial soreness, I could feel the absence of the pain I had been having. I feel so much better, I wish I had had the surgery at least a year sooner. I am pain free and have so much more energy and vigor. Overall, this was a great experience. I would highly recommend Dr. Bastuba He gave me my life back.

This week, I had the worst customer service experience at a medical office that I've ever had. The…read moreoffice manager was rude, condescending, accusatory and disrespectful to the patient. She expressed absolutely no empathy, kindness, or consideration for the patient. My wife had an appointment for a procedure (for which she had to wait a month), but the office staff made a mistake with the orders and schedule, so they did not perform the procedure. In addition, the staff failed to provide the patient with important, scheduled specialty care. We were treated horribly by the office manager. Here is what the office manager should have said when she came into the room, "I'm so sorry you've been sitting here, half naked, for 45 minutes after the medical assistant said she would be right back to start your procedure. Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable? I'm afraid that our office made a mistake in the ordering of the procedure for today and there are some issues that we need to get resolved. I'm sure this is very frustrating and disappointing for you. I apologize for your discomfort and inconvenience. But, I'd like to work with you to get this resolved as quickly as possible and with the least inconvenience to you as possible. We value you as a patient and want to make this right." The office manager said nothing like this. She expressed absolutely no empathy, kindness, respect, or consideration for the patient. She failed to address important specialty care that needed to occur at this appointment. She tried to blame us for the mistakes of the front desk staff and the medical assistant. She was reluctant to admit that the front desk staff made an error. She did not offer to make things right or go out of her way to get things resolved smoothly. She did not say she would try to expedite any follow through. She never expressed any care or consideration for the patient. Needless to say, we will not return to this practice.

I just told her I don't like calling in and this is why, and literally in the middle of a sentence she hangs up on me! They are so rude and they don't want to fix it either. Right here in San Diego we have an absolutely world class, consummate physician in Dr. Irwin Goldstein, supported by an incomparable staff. We are so fortunate to have them.

I…read morespent nearly five years in and out of generic OB-Gyn offices and pelvic floor physical therapy before finally making an appointment at SDSM and receiving the care and treatment that I had been longing for. I was diagnosed with Congenital Neuroproliferative Vestibulodynia at my very first appointment. I greatly appreciated the immense amount of time they give new patients not only for thorough testing but also for education. My first appointment was three hours long, one for testing, one for education with Dr. Goldstein in his office, and one with their in-house professional sex therapist. Specifically for my condition, I value their holistic approach to sexual health and medicine. Making sure their patients are not only physically healed, but since many of us -myself included- are diagnosed with sexual trauma and PTSD, they make sure we are healing mentally as well. It took Dr. Goldstein three hours to diagnose what other doctors had dismissed for five years. I cannot convey the significance of just receiving a diagnosis. This condition had left me emotionally drained for years. It ruined my wedding night because I had no idea why sex had hurt me so much. Educating me on my condition empowered me and allowed me to finally talk about my condition with confidence. All of this goodness and we haven't even covered treatment! My initial blood work showed lower levels of testosterone which can also impact sex so Dr. Goldstein opted to treat that first before moving to surgery. I really appreciated this outlook. He was in NO way pushing surgery as a money grab. If a less invasive approach could work, he took it. After a few months with the testosterone supplementation and no improvement in my condition, I was scheduled for surgery. Dr. Goldstein and his staff do a phenomenal job at preparing you for surgery. Your surgery packet explains everything from your medication regiment, cost breakdown, doctors note, to post-operation care. If asked, he will provide you with names and telephone numbers of other women who have gone through the surgery. Known as the "Vestibulodynia sisters," these women were immensely helpful and considerate to take the time out of their schedule to help other women (like myself) walk through the same process. As someone who is now listed herself to be contacted in case any future women have questions regarding the surgical procedure, I can tell you that we are ASKED to do this and give PERMISSION to Dr. Goldstein to provide our phone numbers to future patients. This is not required of us, and if someone should choose to keep their information private, SDSM would happily do so. He only provides are names and phone numbers, nothing else, and should a new patient reach out to us, it is entirely up to our own personal discretion about what health information we would like to share. Words fall short to commend each and every single woman who helped me when I was first walking through surgery. We live in such a sexually charged culture that experiencing painful sex can often feel incredibly isolating and to know I had this "sisterhood" helping me, encouraging me, and preparing me for this major surgery was so comforting. Lastly, no, they do not accept insurance . But if there is anything I've learned about our healthcare system in the last five years of realizing I had something majorly wrong with my body, it's that our healthcare system is broken. I've been better served by doctors who do not accept insurance than by ones who do. As I mentioned previously, it took Dr. Goldstein hours to do what no other doctor(s) had been able to do in YEARS. If I had just gone straight to SDSM to begin with, I would have saved myself, and my marriage, copious amounts of time and money. Medical procedures are expensive, yes. But, would I trade back the financial investment for more hours crying on my bathroom floor, panic attacks in the bedroom, and inability to look my husband in the eyes?? NEVER. Dr. Goldstein and his entire staff at SDSM gave me back my sex life, my dream of having a family, and renewed intimacy with my husband at nearly 30 years old. 10,000,000 gold stars.
