First and foremost, I'm a former employee and I can tell you 99% of these reviews are ridiculous and grossly inaccurate. Due to HIPAA, I can't say more about the people who posted some of that stuff. I would like to state that Dr. Percival is one of the best PCP's in the area. Now that I no longer work for him, I can have him as my physician. He he smart, thorough, and straightforward. He's a no-nonsense doctor who is going to tell you like it is. Be smart and remember that people have a tendency to post their perception of events when they don't get their way and their reviews are usually negative. Dr. Percival is good... as long as you are not sick. My kid had an intense ear pain and the office said they couldn't see the child because the kid had symptoms of an ear ache. Yes! That is right! Because the kid had symptoms of an ear ache, the child could no go to the doctor's office. The office offered to set up a phone call 6 hours later for a non-refundable $80 charge. What are they going to do? Ask the kid if their ear hurts, then tell me the child has an ear ache, and encourage me to take them to another doctor that will see them in person. Insanity! Office staff have no problem giving you a hard time, called twice to make appointment, told to call back. Not helpful at all I called first time, told to call back, did that, called second time, told to call back they would not make me an appointment till I called back again. I am giving my review based on my own personal experience. I have been through my fair share of doctors from primary care to specialist and surgeons as well in numerous fields. The level of care I received went from poor to about pretty good/decent. So when I needed to find me a new primary care doctor my significant other told me his doctor who he just started seeing was pretty good so I made a appointment with Dr. Percival. I have since seen Dr. Paul Percival I believe less then a half dozen times for minor stuff such as a cold and or cough to seeking a referral and for a much overdue full physical. If you are like me and don't like going to the doctor or you need a doctor who will be thorough then this is the doctor you want. I am and have been so happy with my new doctor. He is so dedicated to his patients (I have never felt that from a doctor before). Because he gives his patients such a high level of care he makes me want to make an effort in taking better care of myself. And one last important observation which for me was very important, he is on time all the time and yet he doesn't make you feel rushed. I could go on and on about what a wonderful doctor he is but I think it's time you go check him out for yourself, you won't be sorry! I have been seeing Dr Percival for more than 10 years. He is the best GP that I have met in my life. He saved my life three years ago by identifying that I had a very serious spine infection and sending me (immediately) to an infectious disease specialist. He is sometimes a bit tough with his directions, but I will take that when my life is on the line. Regarding the comments by others on the office staff rudeness, I did experience some of that several years ago, but that has changed for the better. I have been a patient of Dr Percival for years and have always appreciated him being a straight shooter with me. He is tenacious in finding the source of what your health problems may be and in my case is more about lifestyle changes than just dealing out prescriptions. The front office has always been great with me and I have never had to sit in the waiting room for an extended amount of time. They also seem to consistently fit me in for same day appointments when I'm feeling under the weather. read more

After living in Hollister for almost 7 years, I decided that I was no longer satisfied with my doctors in Salinas. I picked Dr. Percival based on a recommendation from a friend. I'm so glad I did. This man is intelligent and really takes his time to listen and interact with you. He's up on technology, all of the staff are using iPads and your medical records are digital (They were making this change when I first started going here.) Dr. Percival is super thorough and patient with you. He doesn't sugarcoat things, but presents information in a very easy to understand and relatable way. Quite a change from my previous doctor. If he's not sure of something, he'll tell you. He's also not above using Google to check out a fact if warranted. I finally feel like a have a doctor that works with me and doesn't rush me out the door. Even if I move a few cities away in the future, I'll likely keep coming here. Having the HHH Blood lab downstairs is also really convenient. Overall the staff is helpful and friendly. Not perfect, but not bad. The only thing I don't like, and I know this sounds petty, is the fact that at the front desk, they're always closed behind glass. When it is open, there's a decent sized plant and small table right in the way of the window opening that makes you stand back from the window. If that weren't enough of a symbol to keep you away from their desk, their computer monitor is blocking the rest of the window opening (you're just staring at the back of a PC monitor.) That might sound petty, but as a new patient it sure doesn't make me feel welcome. I've heard at least three other patients comment on the same issue while in the waiting room over the last 9 months. If you call to leave a message for the doctor, don't expect a call back until after business hours or the next day usually. Complaints aside, I trust Dr. Percival and appreciate his bedside manner. I was dismissed as a patient a few years ago for forhetting an apointment which legally is abandonment (yea i went to college to be a medical professional) without a recomendation. If you have been dismissed without a referal , press charges. My mother still goes here and she is getting worse and worse on the medical hamsterwheel they have her on for her thyroid problems . I called to transfer my family over to this office. The receptionist was glad to accept new patients but when I arrived she told me they would not accept my insurance. She was condescending and rude when telling me "I specifically asked you if you have blue cross select?" Which she did was not. If you accept a ppo then you accept a ppo. She then told me "you can be seen, but you will have to pay the total bill because we will not be courtesy billing for you". I have never been so upset. Proper care starts with the office staff. Just because the doctors are of high standard doesn't mean they should have anything less in the area of staff. read more

I have been going to Dr. Percival's office for 15 years. He is an excellent Dr. He always takes the time to listen to what's going on and is very thorough. I like that he gives options besides, "just take these meds". I always trust his opinion, which is very important to me, to have trust that your Dr. is giving accurate info. I like him so well, that I chose to take my newborn son to his office instead of a pediatrician. The office staff is great. Anna at the front desk is always very friendly and super helpful. I almost always can get in on a same day appointment if needed. They always treat my kids well and are always very sweet to my little boy. We moved from the Los Gatos area of the Bay Area, and needed to find a new doctor. Dr. Percival was recommended by a friend. I've been seeing him for about a year. I apologize for the length, but you must read these details. Back in December 2016, he gave me a med that had questionable side effects, that could not only do damage, but could be irreversible. On or about June 20, 2017, I received an automated call from his office about "several appointments" needing confirmation. I had no dates on my calendar, and no business card with appointments. Apparently, I had an appointment on June 22...that I didn't make. I don't travel outside when it's cold or hot, as I can't take the heat. It was 93 that day. * I tried to reschedule, at their suggestion, but was threatened with a cancellation fee. Thus, I kept the appointment. * The doc said the office never makes appointments, and so I must have made it. He insisted that I must have forgot. Turns out, his office made the appointment for a yearly exam, which was confirmed in my online patient Portal! * I asked why the recording said I had several appointments. Percival said there was no option for "multiple visit dates," so I could not have heard that, and I must be confused. * He was visibly disappointed and frustrated that I did not have non-slip flooring in my shower, and that I refused to install a safety hand rail/bar. He was equally unhappy that we have throw rugs, insisting that I could trip on a carpet. * He scolded me about my vegetable consumption, especially since I am pre-diabetic. I asked him since when? He insisted that we discussed the blood work either during a visit or via phone, when I supposedly said, quote "I love sweets, and I won't stop eating them" or something similar. He quoted me! I explained that sounded like something I might say, but I made a note on my 2/13 visit with him, that he did not discuss the results of my blood tests. Since I have had questionable sugar levels in previous bloodwork, I was curious to know if I was diabetic. I certainly would have remembered if he said I was. The doc said I must have forgotten. Blood results were never discussed before my June 22 visit. * He asked how I felt, and I said my left shoulder and knees still hurt from the Levofloxacin that he gave me on 12/30/16 for persistent sinusitis. He smiled and said that medication does not cause any lasting damage, which he also said on 12/30 when I questioned the dangerous side effects. (On 12/30, he said those warnings would only affect about 1% of people, and I should not worry.) The Walgreen's printout said there could be permanent damage. He corrected me, saying that lasting damage only occurred in dogs. I said I did not read anything about dogs. He insisted that I read the paperwork incorrectly, and that I should consult someone about my memory issues. * During previous visits, we discussed tennis elbow (on 6/23/16), the discomfort in both my knees, scoliosis, shooting pains in both legs/feet, and partial numbness in both feet. * He consistently challenged me, and pointed out my memory issues. Due to a prior stroke, I do have short-term memory issues, but this was infuriating. * He said that over the last 5 years, Metoprolol was not recommended for treating blood pressure. My question is: 1) why are you just telling me this now? and 2) if that's the case, why didn't you offer to change my meds a year ago?! * On 6/23, the Walgreen's pharmacist, named Jan, said Metropolol Tartrate is still used to treat hypertension. She referred me to Medscape.com. She has not heard that Metoprolol was not recommended for blood pressure. o According to Medscape, Black Box Warning: Fluoroquinolones have been associated with disabling and potentially irreversible serious adverse reactions that have occurred together including: tendinitis and tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and CNS effects. Risk of developing fluoroquinolone-associated tendinitis and tendon rupture is increased in patients over 60 years of age. I am 68 years old. o Taking Levofloxacin may cause changes in sensation and nerve damage that may not go away, even after you stop taking Levofloxacin. Tell your doctor if you ever had peripheral neuropathy, causing tingling, numbness, and pain in the hands and feet. I obtained 3 printouts from 3 different sources, confirming the above. Nothing was ever found about dogs or canines in any of my print or online research. On July 20, 2017, I received a certified letter from Dr. Percival's office, dropping me as a patient. The letter stated our difference in "office scheduling policy" and "their lack of providing me the type of health care that I required" as the reasons. I have never been so insulted by a doctor in my life. His bedside manner needs help. He basically accused me of lying, challenged my short memory, and then dropped me as a patient. I was referred to Dr. Percival with a very high recommendation from his colleague. He was extremely detailed and attentive. I am used to going to a doctor that only does the minimum, but he is not that doctor. I am not a fan of yelp as people complain far more than they praise. His staff is busy and still does a great job. They may not have the time to coddle people, but that does not make them rude. I would highly suggest that anyone going to see this doctor ignores the negative comments. They are a business and have rules to follow. They must follow more regulations than most people know about.
