I will write a review every week if I have to until I graduate. Today my badass education leader came In with 2D Art makeup . Why ? She said so you all have fun and smile This is who we are taught by a person that hiesbout of her way not just for us but entire school to make us smile ! School is hard sometimes because we get caught up in a few negative people's comments and negative vibes . Kai says we are human and it happens just make sure not to live there , we can visit bit don't make Negativity our home . Yesterday I was passing by Sara class , she's a learning leader In Cosmetology Core , who did I see Kai ... showing a biker looking older guy student how to blow dry a dolls hair . Me and my friends stood there because Kai is crazy to watch when she teaches and we always learn something. She does what she does to us ..shows us , let's us do a dew times then corrects us nicely . She finally said after like a million trys , can I grab your hand with the brush in it . The big guy said sure and she adjusted the brush in his hand , stood back a little still holding the brush with his hand under hers and started to pull and blow dry with him . Then she let go and kept saying ok again pull ok again pull .. we walked away laughing because she does that with us all the time , when we massage if we don't get it she puts her hand on ours and helps us with the motion until we get it rhen say again again again and says positive things every time like better or now you got it or does that make sence . We don't learn on the iPad or slides but when she does that I never forget like I can hear her in my head . Now Lauren is doing that too .. its crazy she learns to we noticed . She was a good core learning leader but bow she does new things like corrects us with jer hand on our and then watches us till we get it. Lydia was taught by Kai before at a diffrent school and teaches kinda like her too but Lydia told us she always wanted to be a teacher and Kai told her find me in 3 years and I will help you become one and she did , now Lydia is becoming a teacher too . I'm just saying there's alot of stupid bullshit out there about our school because students are lazy and entitled there and we get grouchy and lazy too and when we do we always get Kai for a day or too and she doesn't allow lazy , she tells us what we are doing after asking us a billion warm up questions on anatomy or skin or facials and just says No is not going to work for me your in college and here to learn but she does it with love and passion for us and teaching so we do it and we are happy too. Kai makes all kinds of noises when she teached like beep dead a beep beep or something like that and when I hear that I know she's talking about dendrites the talking arms of the skin cell , communicating with each other In the spinosum . How do I remember that? Not sure , but when she 1st made that sound I thought she was being funny and then she said I do that cause you will never forget it when I do it again ..I i didn't forget and sometimes when I am helping someone with that subject on homeplay I make that sound it's crazy. Kai has like a million little sounds and I remember what most of um mean. She also can get the whole room to do big circles and swiping in the air , when she walks in and says show me efflurage. Everyone I think there's 50 of us in creative stop and make big circles and swiping and then she says show me petrrisage and we do like I don't even think about it . Anyway we got pissed today when a Cosmo no names but she's not nice ever , Said something about Kai not teaching them makeup and only for us and why not jeans or some crap. Kai is always teaching and I even seen her on the Cosmo area saying nice things to Cosmos even that Cosmo. She always invites Cosmos and barber who don't have clients to watch demos or asks them to be models for us , she doesn't have too there alot of us but she says it's for them to find there joy to get a Facial and for us to practice. This way they don't just sit there and we get practice too and they get to feel movement and Kai encourages them to boom their filybor friends for a facial with them not us .. she tells the Cosmos to book one or two and she will help them since they can do facials . Kai doesn't have to do that either but she says it shows us how to be kind and use team work and allows us to mentor the Cosmo doing th facial while herbor Lauren watch and guide us . So maybe it's not a bad school maybe it's just a few negative college students. read more

I'm a current student in the esthetics program Sometimes things get crazy at school but it's school and there's alot of girls there . I heard about bad reviews from other students (mostly Cosmos at lunch or break ) and I wanted to mind my own buissness but today my lead esthetics teacher came in looking like a comic book character . We get to wear our favorite color shirt tomorrow instead of black and girls at lunch (cosmos) were still wanting more . My lead is awesome , she is always around us helping our instructors out and on Friday she is with us after 2pm just her . She's a positive role model and so many of us always say we want to be like her and she says no be like you . Ms. Kai painted her face looking like a super hero and acted like it was normal . She even did an interview like that and didn't flinch . I asked her why since she was wearing red shirt for the night team and she said for Fun , to make you all smile . Another student asked if was her birthday and she Saud no , it's my Unbirthday and started to sing a Disney song a very merry unbirthday to me . All my teachers are great , they are helpful and kind . Lauren is always busy but willing to help us . Lydia is fun , she's young and happy and all about lashes and makeup . We just got Vanessa who is in core but she is always smiling and friendly and someone said Ms. Kai brought her to esthetics to help her become a esthetics teacher and help her grow ( she was teaching Cosmos ) Ms. Kai makes the day better and our other teachers happy too . She is strict when she teaches us and makes us learn by challenging us but she does it because she wants us to be the best and successful. She does crazy things like comic makeup or sings , she karaok once for a student that was stressed and upset and encouraged him to sing and he did . She stops in the halls and talks to everyone in a positive way not just estis . I never see her take a break or eat and we get worried but Lauren always says she is ok and ensures us she does stop sometimes. All these woman enspire me to be a better person everyday . Even on very hard days they always come through and never hold it against us if we have a bad moment or say mean things when we don't want to do something. They handle it nicely and drop it after . They really want us to be the best and want the best for us. Ms. Kai was just there when I got there just little after I started , but since she came everything is changed for better . She helps so much and not just us , she l Teaches everyone that wants to watch her little demos even barbers. I see her talking to the core Cosmos teachers and puming them up or helping them or just saying hi . No one ever came in our core but our teacher Lauren who was great too . But no other teachers outside side esthi . I dint even know they could do that until we saw Ms. Kai in Cosmo class . So all the bad things people want to say are being said by students that are always upset even about wanting jeans not just shirts . Ms. Kai said today when me and others told her the Cosmos where being rude , well we have to hope they find joy sometime and until then we will always be kind and share our joy with them. Then I asked why no jeans curious , she said How do you eat an elephant ? I was confused . She smiled and said one bite at a time . We have shorts now and if we show we can follow the rules and not take advantage then maybe someday we get jeans but until then be joyful you get to wear your favorite color all day tomorrow. Anyway this is long and I could right a book on all the good things Ms. Kai does and Lauren Lydia and Vanessa do but I think you get the point. Reposting because Yelp tried to delete it! Hello, I'm the real Sequoia D. Mendoza. I wanted to address a few things and share my real experience and feelings towards PMTS & Staff. To start, my school and peers had made me aware that an account was made using my name and that it left a very hateful review. That review portrays a nasty image of my school, my educators, and of me. It's discouraging knowing that the person who is doing this was once a friend & peer, I hope you do the right thing hun. This was a sad attempt to get me In trouble before I graduated, and it didn't work. Attending this school has been such a journey and I wouldn't change a thing. Being at this school with this beautiful community has helped me grow and evolve. At the beginning on my journey with Paul Mitchell I did make a few big "discoveries" but I learned from them and changed for the better. This school and the "be nice or else" culture, gave me a new outlook on life, changed how I interact with everyone, and improved the relationships I have. I look back at the past 17 months and only wish I learned or did more. I truly am grateful for all the blessing the school has given me and for all the ones to come because of where I got my education and what I got out of it. I will be the first cosmologists to graduate with deans list from my school in such a long time and damn it feels good! In the past 17 months I didn't just graduate cosmetology school, I graduated cosmetology school at PAUL MITCHELL THE SCHOOL. I didn't just graduate at PMTS, I graduated with full HONORS. I didn't just graduate with full honors, I graduated on DEANS LIST. I didn't just graduate cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell with honors & on deans list, I graduate cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell with honors & on deans list all during a PANDEMIC! Graduating with honors and deans list is the first thing I've done for me and followed through with In such a long time. I am so proud of myself! However, I couldn't do it without a few key people. So I attended PMTSM with a start date of August 2021 and graduated May of 2022. My experience was not a good one. In all fairness I understand the school now has new owners that I hear are trying harder and want a better school for their students. I was there for the cosmetology program, and it started off awesome. But sadly once out of core it didn't stay that way. The school had a lot of staffing issues, I had around 11 different instructors in the nine months I attended this school. We were not properly instructed on a lot of things covered under our scope of practice: skin care, waxing, hair cuts, textured hair, nails or makeup. For the cosmos when I was there they focused us on chemical services. You were not allowed to voice your opinion about the lack of education without repercussions from the owner. At one point most of the staff refused to even make eye contact with me. I was threatened with expulsion, told I was ungrateful, and rude because I didn't want to stop and have conversations with the owner while headed out for my breaks. We were constantly punished as a group from the actions of the few. "Sally" did come to class prepared for cutting class so no one can learn hands on cutting today.. review chapter three instead(book work). At one point the cosmo students had their classroom taken away so we did our theory lessons on the clinic floor spread out and with "Covid" walls between every station so you couldn't see the board, and couldn't hear the instructor while she was walking around. Building was not kept to state board, the soap to wash your tools was watered down 70% water 30% soap on a good day, if we even had soap. Sinks always clogged with hair. One staff member who is no longer there constantly made inappropriate jokes about me and my husbands intimate relationship (unprovoked). She would see me with a wig on and tell me "oh did you wear that at night for your husband? I bet he would love to see you in that and sexy outfit!" After I graduated an instructor told my fellow student working on my client not to listen to my formula because I'm "a f-ing idiot" even my client complained about that and nothing was done. I hope it's better with some staffing changes for the sake of the brand and and students who pay so much money to attend. ** response to new owners** I genuinely hope you make the school as wonderful as it has the potential to be. Reposted because it was deleted. Honestly I wish I had good things to say about this place, as the students do an amazing job and the students are wonderful. The school building itself is dirty and gross, their is water statins all over the ceiling, mold growing on the roof, mold in the staff fridge, and the administration and instructors are utterly unprofessional, racist, homophobic, and transphobic. If you wish to go into the beauty industry DO NOT go here. At PMTSM if you are enrolled in the cosmetology program you will not learn anything about what you paid for, the cosmetology program is supposed to include nails, facials, waxing, and hair. Yet all they focus on his hair, and they still fail to teach students how to work with 4C hair (curly hair). Teachers here constantly argue about whither the other teacher is right or wrong and most of the teachers here at the school don't even know how to use the paul mitchell color line. How can you trust a facility that doesn't even teach their staff on how to use their products. If you are part of the LBGTQIA+ you will be harassed by the teachers and not protected what so ever, they ask you intimate and personal questions about your life that are completely wrong and disgusting. If you are a person of color, the school blatantly and openly discriminate their POC students by giving the white students a majority of the clients and not giving POC students a fair shot, teachers run around mocking the Spanish language, and are say that curly hair is too nappy to deal with. If you are a client, PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. The school does not care about the integrity of your hair! The school again and again refused to order HEAT PROTECTANT. If the students bring their own products they are ridiculed and harassed for wanting to help the integrity of their clients hair. Hooman the Co-owner is misogynistic and likes to throw his money in you face, "you haven't made it in this industry if you don't drive a Maserati" word for word verbatim of what he said. During his speeches he is very hostile and rude to the students. He acts as tho the students don't pay his bills.
