I went in for a spiral perm today however, neither of the students had ever done one so the instructor said she would come back after my hair was washed & trimmed and show them how to roll the perm correctly. That never happened. I ended up with one of the students wrapping my VERY LONG hair just like a regular perm on spiral rods - horizontally with the ends buried under layers of hair. I stopped her once to clarify that it was supposed to be a spiral perm and the way she was wrapping it wouldn't create the curls I wanted. She assured me she was doing it correctly. I let it go assuming the instructor would come over and check the wrap before the activator was applied and catch the problem. It would've been a pain to sit through half of my head being rewrapped but it's a school and I figured it would be a learning experience for both students to see the importance of how the hair is wrapped to create the desired effect. Unfortunately, the instructor never checked on their progress, even after they went and requested help/direction twice. In fact, the instructor (whose license both students were working under) left before they finished wrapping my hair. Ultimately, what I ended up with is slightly wavy hair from mid-shaft to the ends on part of my hair, two entirely different curl patterns through the parts that actually curl down the full length of my hair (one of which is actually spiral, yay!), and some completely straight pieces where I'm assuming the activator couldn't penetrate the multiple layers of hair or a 2nd bottle of activator should've been used. I didn't expect the results to be perfect, it is a school after all. What I did expect that there would be some attempt at supervision/instruction so that the students weren't just guessing at what they were supposed to do and my results would at least be consistent with a spiral perm. Despite all of this, I will try them again, I just know for next time that I need to speak up and ask for the instructor to check things when it seems the students are floundering. read more

I took my chances going to the salon. I called and spoke with a supervisor who guaranteed me that her student could do a great job and that she would supervise it. Little did I know that she didn't know what she was doing either. I went in for a loose spiral perm and came out with straight fuzzy hair. And it's falling out and breaking off. I've probably lost a half a cup of hair in one day. I didn't say anything while I was in the salon, because I did not want to embarrass the student. But as soon as I got in my car, I called and left a message for the supervisor to call me back..That was two days ago, she has still not returned my call. read more

I got my hair colored here. It took two hours and I brought an audio book along to listen to. The stylist was ok. There were some mishaps such as the water being too hot when shampooing (but quickly corrected when I told her), water spraying on my face, smelling my hair being scorched when blow drying (a very brief moment), and getting a hot spot on my scalp when blow drying and me jerking away (she apologized). She was about to have me walk out with dripping wet hair but I wanted to get my hair blown dry. She eyed her instructors and announced, "She wants her hair dried *sigh*" For a minute there, I was confused if blow drying hair was a part of the service or not. With my thick hair, it took about a 1/2 hr to finish with the blow dry. I used a Groupon and was charged an additional bowl of color for $8. They do upsell services and you'll have to be sure to check prices before agreeing to additional services. Any color for hair longer than shoulder length is an additional $10. read more

It's about what you would expect. I thought the service was very well priced, but they didn't seem very organized and there definitely were times where the lack of expertise showed. I asked for a full color, and was talked into only getting highlights (VERY reluctantly). I later assumed it might be because they didn't want to stay late. Regardless, it would have been cheaper and more convenient for me to stay and finish the whole thing than separate it into two appointments and be disappointed between them. More so, the highlights were.... hastily put on. The color did not reach my roots (looked like my hair had grown out). It was kind of sloppy. That being said, the student was so so friendly and it made the experience a lot better. I don't want to share her name, because I know everyone is learning and I don't want them to be punished, but at this point I wish I could to give them some recognition for their demeanor! read more

I returned to the Paul Mitchell School, this time for ombré color - this experience solidified my 4-star review. It took 4.5 hours this time. Thankfully I was prepared and brought a book, and I read the entire thing. I had the same stylist this time around, which was nice. I could tell her confidence had grown in the 6-ish weeks since I last had her do my hair. She did great with my color consultation (with less input from the instructor, too). I'm happy with how my color turned out and I've gotten several compliments on it. I paid $95, which included 8 extra bowls of color. So overall, worth it in my opinion. Block off some extra time and come get your hair done here! read more

I went to get a few highlights in the top on my head to blend in the blond I had done elsewhere. Instead, they turned it orange, it bled all over my hair because the girl kept painting in more bleach, n skunk stripped me half way down my head. To top it off, it was all orange. She also bleached my current blind hair, n fried it! I sat for three hours for this! They charged me for the product. In addition, the "teacher" only checked on the student twice, and didn't correct her while she was messing up my hair. Went back to get it fixed, and the had to dye all the hair back to Brown. Then have me a mohawk panel, which is what should have been done too begin with. Sat another 4 hours for this! (This stylist was actually decent.) However the blond does not remotely match because someone else did the toner. They tried charging me for the product again to change my hair back to Brown n poor our in the original state (less the burnt blond)! It actually ended up costing MORE than if I had went to REGIS in the mall....and the quality was below sub par! I will NEVER EVER go back here! My hair is ruined, n will take forever to grow out (naturally curly)! I also have to continuously get deep conditioning keratin treatments, costing much much more in the end! read more

So I have been to plenty of other cosmetology schools/salons before to get my hair done- but I have NEVER had an experience like I did this week... For starters, there was just a very unprofessional feel - the students were wearing inappropriate clothing for a "work place" (crop top, leggings with holes up the entire length, etc) and it seemed like everyone was more focused on "social hour" than any of their clients. I totally understand that these people are still learning the ropes, but my stylist cut my layers the wrong direction. I was more so irritated that none of the teachers had corrected them until they were completely done with my hair cut. I ended up having about 3-4 more inches cut off than I wanted and my hair is still uneven. I was also in the salon for at least 2 hours for just a brow wax and hair cut. Let me preface this with the fact that I've gotten haircuts at cosmetology schools before and been more than pleased with them. That was not the case this time. Pros: The price. Can't beat $8 for a haircut Cons: The haircut itself. I got it cut yesterday, and as I was playing with it last night (because who doesn't love the feeling of freshly cut hair?), I noticed that certain pieces are much longer than the surrounding pieces. Not layers - just pieces of hair that weren't cut or were cut in an unnatural or unflattering manner. When looking in thw mirror this morning, I noticed that one side is about an inch longer than the other. By far the worst haircut I've ever gotten. One other note - the educator did quite a bit of clean-up after the student performed the cut. read more

I went to the school knowing the appointments are very long and sometimes not so perfect. I asked to be with a level 2 stylist since apparently they are more knowledgeable and experienced. This was beyond a bad appointment. She colored my hair but took a break for a cigarette. (Seriously) When rinsing my hair she sprayed me with the water hose. She dropped it 3x and made a mess in the salon. I walked through the salon without a towel and my hair dripping wet. She tried to dry my hair with a hair dryer but kept dropping her brush. I asked to leave and left with wet hair. Terrible. read more

Good price and the students do a good job. These students are learning so of course things take a little more time. Overall very good. If you like the stylist you can ask for him/her again for your next appointment. I've had several students that have done great work. read more
