Today, April 21, 2026 I came to Paul Mitchell Esani in Roswell, GA for overall hair color to cover my gray. First, who ever asked for the traffic light right at the entrance and exit did all of us a great service. This place is right off Alpharetta Highway on Mansell Road across from Walmart. I wasassigned to student Devon from Charleston, SC. I wanted to lighten my hair one shade so when the gray shows it would blend better and not be so noticeable. I'm a Senior in a mobility scooter. Everyone was so helpful in getting me the end location so my scooter would fit. The Instructor advised me about lightening my color. Devon took before and after pictures. He told me how long I would have to wait. He was very professional and personable. Laying back in the shampoo bowl takes some special care. And even more care to get up from the chair. But Devon helped me. I couldn't have had a nicer person. And my hair looked great! Thank you everyone. read more

The school is extremely ALL over the place (students, front desk and ESPECIALLY staff). Appointment was scheduled with student at desk confirming acceptable with schedule, WHY on the day of appointment call received 2 hours prior to service that appointment would NOT be with student due to conflict of scheduling. Another appointment was scheduled before the 11:00 (the student stated that appointment would be her 1st appt). You are better served by going to an establishment that understands how to own, run and operate professionally a salon and cares about it reputation. PLEASE note that this school along with the other Paul Mitchell schools are owned individually, it's not their name being drug thru the mud it's Paul Mitchell. It's needs complete overhauling, but the door revolves so much here not only the students but staff included the signs are present change is needed but whether or not it occurs, that's another thing. I have gone to this establishment for years, I truly love the students and the potential that they obtain.However, I have a concern regarding instruction, LaLa is very unprofessional , rude, and appears to show favoritism. I find her behavior perplexing and unbalanced. It appears that the owners of the institution are unaware of the character and integrity of the people entrusted in authority. I have booked a hair appointment 4 different times. The first 2 times they called a day or two prior to cancel due to student shortage and a school event. The 3rd time they called to cancel exactly 22 minutes before my appointment when I was en route. The lady said we apologize and will give you a 20% discount next time. I was upset but I got over it! FYI texts you 2-3 times prior to confirm your appointment. I ALWAYS confirm. So I had an hair appointment today at 6pm. I walk in at 5:52pm. The front desk lady asked if I had an appointment? I say Yes and show her my text confirmation. So after going to 3-4 other people and me repeating my last name twice.. they tell me that the student I was assigned is gone. Smh So unfortunately they couldn't take me. I don't know who's running this place but they're doing a PISS POOR job! Terrible communication and even worse customer service. read more

Student review. I would not recommend. The towels are dirty, sheets have stains, there has been feces on facial towels (image below), there has recently been a bug infestation in one of the dirty hampers & the hamper was not disinfected before going back on the floor, there is one lady who doesn't speak english who has to clean the restrooms, keep up with the water fountain and do laundry for both programs (esthetics and cosmo), toilet paper isn't properly stored, i have personally found blood on a brand new roll of toilet paper (image below), the restroom literally smells like sewer and I am so embarrassed that clients have to deal with that, administration isn't a safe space at all, highly unprofessional, they allowed a student with a fungal infection on the hands to provide services without gloves, instructors do not use gloves or demonstrate proper sanitation when they provide services on students, students have been allowed to store dirty linens on the floor under the massage table, the rules change every week, there's no one that isn't biased, you can forget discussing issues with an advisor because no one has a clear answer. There's never a yes or no, you'll get the run around until you figure it out yourself. Instructors form cliques and have favoritism that knocks down other students education. For example, every instructor tells different information, there's never one set answer. Teachers will allow you to perform services incorrectly, without redirecting you. Not sure what everyone else in these reviews were getting but I got an amazing facial from The Paul Mitchell school! There's was plenty of parking and the building was easy to find (across from the Walmart). My friend told me about this place and naturally I was hesitant. Because I have a usual facial lady, but she was out of town so I just thought I'd try something different and I'm glad I did. Upon walking in I was greeted by the friendly front desk staff, and checked in quickly and told the facial/relaxation area was around the corner. Once I got there the products they use were in display for all to see so that was good. My estitician in training was Brea C. and when I tell you this was one of the best facials I've ever received I'm not joking. She was very through and took her time to treat and analyze my skin. She ensured I was comfortable and happy. Even went the extra mile in my extractions when I mentioned my problem areas. I'm very happy with my service and estitician, so much I'm going back next month. FYI definitely no where near the price of a regular facial. When you go ask for her! read more

My experience at Paul Mitchell Esani was nothing short of amazing. I came in for a chemical peel and microdermabrasion. My esthetician, Ashley Carnegie, was very knowledgeable of the products and attentive to the needs of my skin. She walked through each step of the process and even offered advice and product recommendations to help my achieve my skin goals at home. I have been coming every week for a month for a blowout with ironwork for $25, consistently. I love my cosmetologist, she's wonderful and does amazing work! Tonight there was a teacher Mr. HERNANDO that suddenly charged me an extra $10 for "length/density" when my hair has been the same density. My hair is even shorter than when I first came because I got a cut. When I asked him about it and explained the situation, his demeanor immediately changed as he stated "prices change" and walked away. "Prices changed" because he suddenly decided that my cut should be extra and couldn't explain his choice. I was stunned by his lack of tact in handling the situation. His lack of customer service and etiquette is truly disgusting and disappointing for the brand of Paul Mitchell. I hope the new professionals do not learn that type of behavior from that teacher. As a Cosmetologist who has recently completed Cosmetology school and have received my license, the story's I've heard from cosmetology students who attend the Roswell Paul Mitchell school are next to horrific. The teachers don't follow the given curriculum and fail to upkeep proper contact with students that are either sick or on leave. Heavily advise not attending this cosmetology school. read more

Let me start by saying this real loud for the people in the back: THIS IS A SCHOOL. If you're expecting to get a high end salon experience, then go to a high end salon. And, for the record, even the most experienced hair stylist was once in the shoes of each student you see at Paul Mitchell The School Esani. So have some grace. Now, on to the review... As a place to receive beauty services, this place is great. Yes, it will take longer than in a regular salon, but if you have patience, talk with the person working on you and CLEARLY COMMUNICATE with their instructors, you should be very satisfied, and so will your wallet. Be nice to the person working on you. I'm willing to bet they're really nervous about your service because they're afraid of messing up and upsetting you. Just relax, be patient, and have a conversation with the student working on you. Unless you're getting a skin treatment. In that case, just be quiet and enjoy the spa environment. But whatever you do, for the love of everything that is good and holy DO NOT RUSH THEM! When you sign your release, you're literally acknowledging that you are getting serviced by a student and your service is a practical learning experience for them. Let them learn while you save money. And now to my final point. These students are literally paying thousands of dollars to be able to learn skills and work on the guests coming to the school. They don't make a penny off of cutting your hair or giving you a facial. So if you're getting a service for a fraction of what you would pay anywhere else, have the decency to bring some cash and leave a tip. They're working their butts off for a looooong time to try to make sure you're happy. Just because it's a school doesn't mean they're not worthy of a tip. Just be a good human being and tip the kid a few bucks. It would make their day. read more

What can I say.... AMELIA is amazing. She was very friendly from the moment she grabbed me from the waiting area (which is clean, organized and very well maintained) until she walked me out. I was asked lots of questions to make sure we both understood what I wanted and what was realistic. I have really thin hair so it was nice to go over what is best for me and my inability to style my hair but want it to look nice. We ended up doing a partial highlight of caramel highlights and toned it at the end, trimmed the dead ends off so I got to keep my length. My overall score for my experience is 10/10! I would recommend the Paul Mitchell school for anything you want done to your hair. These girls are young, hungry to learn and work and REALLY want to be the best they can. You won't find someone who cares more about your hair being perfect than these young ladies! Amelia and Savannah were amazing. Visited this location once again on Saturday 3/9/19 for my dad. He got his haircut by Amelia and he couldn't be happier. She does a wonderful job with both women AND men's haircuts. All around 5-Star young lady. read more

I really hate to leave a bad review. I've been here a few times but last night was bad. Real bad. My daughter had full foil highlights and when we left her hair was yellow, pink, and purple. They said it was due to prior color and we could come back in 6 weeks to try to lighten it more. I totally get you can't always go as light as you hope. But for it to be different colors is a whole other thing. There were 4 people standing together trying to figure out how to fix it. I was trying to be kind and understanding but I cannot believe they let her leave looking like this. The instructor signed off on the form before the stylist ever even cut her hair. It was closing time and I feel like they didn't have time to complete it so they just didn't. My teen cried the entire way home. Not only did we pay for this mess, but we spent EIGHT hours at a salon today having it fixed! I know there are some great students here but they're only as good as their leaders and someone should have fixed this. And at the very least, they shouldn't have charged us. read more

If you are an aspiring esthetician then I would highly recommend that you thoroughly research other educational opportunities available to you. This school has a high turn over rate in regards to instructors which causes disruption to the education of the students resulting in a large amount of busy work. They also spend an unnecessary amount of time discussing the dress code and not enough time teaching the basics of skin care. Some of the materials that they can you will be provided with during the course of your education as part of the cost of tuition either comes too late in your training to allow for adequate practice, is missing items or is simply not provided. Communication is horrendous. It is par for the course for emails and phone calls to not be returned. If you are lucky enough to speak with someone then odds are that they will refer you to someone else and that cycle continues till you eventually figure out what you need to know for yourself. They make plans, but rarely see them through. They stress the be nice or else mantra, but clearly need to brush up on it because their actions and their words do not align. You should expect to feel prepared for your state board test after completing your time here and in reality I would suggest you form a study group, buy a Milady test prep book and partake in an internship. This school does not live up to the Paul Mitchell reputation. read more

AS mentioned in the other reviews, this place is definitely a school and everything takes TIME. High recommendations on student April! B is for the business and busy bodies in this place. This is a school. There isn't much of a quietness nor catering service. Its different than the San Diego Paul Mitchell school where they treat clients to either pink lemonade, coffee or water. You come here to get the affordable service and enhancing student experience. Over all the school overs hair services, nail services and facial services- yay! U is for the unique service and experience you get with your student. This is great because you get to build that personal repertoire, and April, the student I was paired up with, was definitely great! Her services were not only great but, her knowledge and attentiveness to what you really want is really amazing. She's been in the industry for sometime and she knows really how to help you! April if you're reading this, just wanted to say thank you and I have gotten lots of compliment on my short hair do and great color! Zipping through the service, is not really realistic. Again, this place is a school and the students have to really get teacher approval for everything, so keep that in mind. Honestly coming in I had long hair and to leave with shoulder length hair and color it took me and April 6hours. So be sure if you're scheduling an appointment you have some time cut out to get the results you want- also everything is scenario based so don't let my experience scare you! Zealous for deals with my wheels! There is a groupon available now for certain services, but already everything is so affordable that it makes you want to come back! The experience you have will 95% depend on the student assigned to your treatments. I recently moved back to the area and noticed Esani switched up their skincare brand to one I absolutely love - Cosmedix. I grabbed a Groupon and made an appointment. I mentioned the Groupon at the time of booking and when I arrived, yet, was recommended a facial that wasn't covered and it wasn't disclosed until I paid - not too upset over that, but I wanted results, more than I could receive from a thirty-minute facial. What didn't leave me with a good impression was the student, I neglected to note her name, didn't fully remove the scrub she used. I mentioned it at the end of the facial (as my face itched a bit) and she assured me she removed it all. Later at home, I found what looked like sand on my face/the front of my shirt, so it was obviously not fully removed. I know these are students, but I would have felt better had the student taken my concern seriously. I did have a separate student give me an amazing Eyebrow Arch (seriously better than the Benefit Brow Bar) and Hot Stone Treatment. Because I had the Groupon, I returned yesterday for another facial, a little bit apprehensive. But, I'm so glad I did. Heather D. gave me the Let's Get Even Facial and it was one of the best facials I have ever had. Heather was fantastic! Her technique was solid and she explained every step and how it would address my concerns. I've made a second appointment with her for next month (mid-November) to try the Age Defiant Facial before she graduates. I cannot recommend her enough! For years, anytime I needed to find a new stylist (not very often, but maybe every 3-4 years), I would go to Esani and try out students who were about to graduate, find one I loved and follow them (if they stayed local) to whatever salon they ended up at. The hair program seems to be up in the air and not taking weekend appointment - I would have loved adding Re-Treat Treatment or Marulaoil Treatment in the wash-house. Maybe next month? read more

So I made an appt for Friday morning at 10. I got there about 10 min early, just to be considerate and timely. Not sure why I was so worried about that. People came and went. Students, customers, managers(teachers) and I still sat there. After waiting 30 min, I asked, when us someone helping me? It ended up being NOT the person that it was supposed to be, not sure if she ever came in. The student that did my hair was nice. She wasn't very talkative or warm though. I wanted subtle highlights, preferably through a cap but she informed me they don't use them?? Anyways, my hair looks ok. I guess I was expecting more all the way around. It started off wrong so the whole experience was not brag worthy. I might go back. They did give me a discount for waiting and I appreciate that. read more

Three years ago when I first started going to Paul Mitchell school as a customer, I was highly impressed. The service was professional, and although the hairstylist was a student, there was a conscientious supervisor always near. My last three experiences have been nothing but a horrible experience and wasted time. Don't bother to book a particular stylist, because that Hairstylist may not even be working on that day; and the administration is quick to excuse themselves by saying we are "just a school and can't control when our students work". Funny, they used to have no problem delivering more than what they promised... now they offer nothing but frustration! I always reserve an appointment with someone experienced with cutting men's hair; in the last three visits they matched me with someone who had no experience cutting men's hair, and the supervisor was no better qualified. They were clueless and the results were horrific. They show NO concern whatsoever for having wasted a customer's time or delivering a terrible customer experience. There is only one reason to go to Esani. They're cheap! After patronizing the place for several years -- what can I say? I wanted to save money! -- I think that services, accountability, and common courtesy have fallen to the wayside. -- Everything is hit-or miss. Many students (i.e. Shay) have an exalted sense of their limited abilities. -- If you make an appointment with a particular student, he or she may or may not show up. And .... you may be sitting in reception for awhile before you realize they haven't booked anyone else for you. -- It's important to get a good teacher. Many on the floor a) don't give a damn or b) aren't particularly talented. The good ones leave. I do recommend Jamie (who's great!) and Dallas. There's one instructor walking around Phase 2 -- a dumpy Paul Mitchell graduate, whose name I don't know -- who should be ousted. -- If you're just getting roots touched up, you'll probably be fine. But not necessarily. I've seen some disasterous dye jobs leave the joint. -- Haircuts? Hmmmm. I wouldn't risk it. Definitely not, if you have curly hair. -- You may be in the seat for a looooong time. But realize, you're working with students and they're conceivably learning their craft. On YOU! (Your hair may come out good, it may not. That's the price you pay, for working with students.) -- And if you're not pleased, and politely complain when you're there next time..... you may be kicked out. Seriously. Caveat emptor. read more

The Esani beauty school is like a hot dog-- nothing great, but acceptable if you have no money. After years of going to Esani for blonde highlights and a haircut -- hey, I was a poor college kid!-- I finally went to a real salon a few months ago. The first question out of my new hair stylist's mouth... "Did you purposely dye your hair yellow?" Esani is fine if you're okay with poorly dyed hair and a mediocre cut. I've never come out of the school feeling completely satisfied and I ALWAYS feel like I need to rewash and restyle my hair after leaving. (When it comes to curly hair, they really have no idea what they're doing. They're the people who put ketchup on hotdogs!) Paul Mitchel is great, but the Esani school is hit or miss. There have been times in the past when I have waited one hour before being seated and end up getting a two hour haircut, which should NEVER happen. Luckily for this review, the last time I went was on a Wednesday and there was only a 5 minute wait. The good thing about this teaching school is that the instructors are walking around constantly, guiding the students. This gives the student more confidence and the customer too. I like how they wash your hair before cutting it, which is a service you would pay extra for anywhere else. Overall, don't go here if you're particular about your hair or if you're pressed for time. I absolutely LOVE Paul Mitchell the School. I have been getting my hair done here since 2005. Originally I started at Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta, however I moved closer to Esani about 2 years ago and started going here. I always get great color and cuts. I haven't had a bad experience. I see people complaining about wanting complicated cuts (you're going to a school) I see people complaining about the time in the chair..(again..you're going to a school) Paul Mitchell the School makes trying out hair cuts and colors a no brainer for me...If I want to drastically change colors, it will not cost me hundreds like it would elsewhere. I typically get highlights and cut for $48 However I have gotten the PM Shines, and Awaphui Treatments in the past. If you are not one for color I HIGHLY recommend getting a Clear PM Shine. It brightens your natural color and adds soooo much shine. I didn't color my hair for 1-2 years and just got PM shines to add vibrancy. It's not permanent. The Awaphui treatment is great too, especially if your hair is damaged from constant dyeing, heated tools etc. It restores your hair. I sound like an advertisement..but I recommend this place to all of my friends and I am definitely a happy client! read more

These remarks say to me she is unprofessional and abrupt. I came in wearing a hat and jacket. I took them off and held them in my lap, she never offered me a place to put my items, I had to ask her. I went today, a Saturday, and they were pretty busy! My stylist was absolutely amazing, her name is Mallory and she did a fantastic job! It was very cool to watch the teachers go around and help the stylists and make sure they were doing okay. I believe the leader that my stylist had was Tommy, and he was really helpful and encouraging to all the stylists when they needed anything. I showed Mallory a picture, and she did exactly what I wanted. I was there from about 10:45-1:45, which didn't seem very long to me compared to other salons, and for the price (I spent $70 for cut and balayage) I would've been happy being in there for 5 hours. I recently had my first experience at this salon. The price for a woman's haircut was VERY affordable, and there's no need to tip, which makes it thriftier still. Another thrifty plus - no "hard sell" on shampoo and styling products to take home. At no point did my student or her instructor tell me that my normal shampoo was "eating my hair", as has happened at other salons. I was given a full wash and conditioning treatment before the cut. For those of us who enjoy a bit of a scalp massage, the experience was heavenly. The downside is that, since I was working with a student, the process was slow - my appointment was at 11:00 and I didn't leave until a few minutes after noon. Each step of the cut was inspected by an instructor before my student could proceed. The upshot - this was an indulgent experience at a budget price. So i won't say my experience was completely horrible but i left very disappointed. I went to this location particularly because a friend told me this salon was great with color. Which is true iris did a really good job on the highlight although it wasn't my first initial choice. I commend her for that so if you want a good highlight iris is your girl . So now that i got the positive stuff out the way let's go into why i will never visit again, i called up there the day before during the conversation i told her i was nervous cause this is my second time trusting a beauty school (the first time was horrible) . I ask her if i can get a girl who is good with natural texture hair because sorry not every stylist can do African American hair which i feel should be taught at a HAIR SCHOOL HMMMMM (sadly this America SN:i said what i said) the girl tells me she's never worked with this texture before keyword for (i never done black girl hair before). Welp, no turning back back now as she half way blow dries my hair out and then flat irons it while it's still damp. Got referred here by a friend and was pleasantly surprised as it is a school and not a professional salon. My stylist Trish was incredibly friendly and professional. The instructor Chloe was super nice and informative, and put my nerves about having a student work on me at ease. I walked away feeling like a million bucks. Chloe let me know about the skin services they offer as well, so I now havr more options to treat myself with a facial before my next hair appointment as well. I arrived to Paul Mitchell at 11:00 for my tour for the skin care program they offer. At 11:30 I was finally walked around and told that because I am 22 and not 24 I'd need my mom or dad to be on my FAFSA. I've been an independent for years...and never had this issue with fasfa being only under me, for an actual college institution. After speaking with finical aid I was basically told "good luck getting into another school" because I can't apply on my own without a parent. If I were to pay out pocket they said $1400 a month would be the payment. I've toured at another Paul Mitchell and never heard the things I was told today OR treated like this. If you're wanting to go to school somewhere for esthetics or cosmo...please at least pick another location. This one is horrible and the staff is not warm and welcoming at all. Not to mention I drove an hour and a half to be told these things when it was one of my questions over the phone about finical aid. Georgia institute of cosmetology treated me better than this and they aren't as well known name wise. UPDATE: After touring Elaine Sterling institute and Lanier Tech...I can confirm Paul Mitchell is not worth the $15,000!!!! Lanier has won me over with how PROFESSIONAL and WELCOMING they are!!!, not to mention you learn a good bit more in the curriculum they offer for esthetics. I had a Groupon for $35 for $80 worth of services, so I decided to give it a try. Online I requested an appointment for 930am for haircut, color and express microdermabrasion. I got an email stating the time would be for 11am for my appointment. No big deal. I also got 4 texts confirming the 11am time. When I showed up at 11 for my appointment, they actually scheduled my microdermabrasion for 10 and the hair for 11. The proceeded to say they were booked solid and couldn't change it. The Esthetician in charge was rude and didn't believe my story (although I had emails and texts on my smartphone to prove it). She said "Well we don't even take 930 appointments for microdermabrasion". I would have left had I not made the appointment a month in advance. Finally after 30min of them trying to figure things out, the stylist got started on my hair. All I wanted was semi-permanent hair color to blend my gray, so I was staying the exact same color. And I had a short stacked haircut that had grown out, I wanted it trimmed up but the exact same cut. I figured keeping things the same would be easy. Wrong. My hair color is 2 shades darker, thank God it will wash out soon. My hair looks black. The hair cut, this girl had no idea what she was doing. One side of my hair is an inch longer than the other side. She didn't even trim the back. She trimmed the bangs on one side of my head but not the other. She was running out of time and I think totally forgot to finish my cut. She had to hurry because they were trying to squeeze in my facial. She was a nice girl and a level 2, but some people can't concentrate in a hurry. Luckily my mom is a hairdresser and next time I see her she can fix the cut. The microdermabrasion was wonderful. Worth the money to visit the Estheticians! My face was smooth, the technician very pleasant and funny. I WILL be returning there again. Peaceful in the room, I wanted to fall asleep. For the price, the place is worth a try. Hair will grow out, no big deal if they screw it up. I might visit again, but this time I wont schedule a hair appointment and face appointment together. And I will get a different student to cut my hair. read more

I never have an issue when I go to the school. Every two weeks, I go, get in and get out. I've never been there more than 2 hours with the exception of getting my hair colored last year. The bottom line is that the people here are students. While some have worked with hair before, some have not; to go in with the expectation of perfection from a SCHOOL is both unfair and unrealistic. Each time I go, I am treated with respect and leave looking fabulous. No complaints here read more

I'm a long time client of "The School" and take my two teenage daughters as well. You can't beat the prices and over the course of over 5 years, not one bad hair day and always so pleased with the fresh new look and quality of service for the price. I don't go in with a predetermined look always confident they are the experts and know what should and would work for my hair. Again, I've never been disappointed. I believe many clients come in with a wishlist look. They want something that just isn't right for their hair texture, skin tone, etc...and when they don't come out looking like Jennifer Anniston, the salon failed. Help them help you and let them do what they know best. These students are not professionals, they are students, hence "The School". Unfortunately among the hairstyle industry, not all are in it for love of it. Like many home repair contractors, some enter the industry because they lack discipline, like getting up late, picking their clients, being their own boss, choosing their hours,...they won't be the best and thankfully, places like "The School" help us weed them out. When you find one you like, take the time to visit the accomplished stylist at their place of profession and pay the professional price. For those who seem to know so much about hair and services to criticize the service provider, take the onous to stay on top of your stylist and help them.
