This review is about a year late, but I was just reminded about my experience when I went to get my haircut at a different salon the other day. I've had a couple issues here with stylists being rude or not friendly. Last time I went to this salon, the person who cut my hair was super kind, but we did a balayage on my curly hair, and unfortunately, it created severe damage and my hair start to fall out. It damaged all of my hair so much that I've never been able to get it back to normal. I recently went to a different salon to get my haircut and we ended up chopping off about 6 inches of my hair because it was not fixable. I don't think I would recommend this salon unfortunately because of that and because my prior experiences were not so great with the general vibe. read more

Worth the 4-Hour Drive! I recently found myself unable to visit my usual stylist in NJ, so I decided to make a 4-hour drive to see DiDi after being impressed by her educational social media posts. From the moment I arrived, DiDi addressed all my concerns with exceptional knowledge and kindness, much like my trusted stylist back home. I absolutely LOVE my new cut and styling! DiDi's expertise truly shines, and I wouldn't hesitate to book another appointment whenever I'm in the ATL area. The salon itself is immaculate, and it's evident that the team works harmoniously. Every client was greeted warmly, which, in my opinion, is a hallmark of excellent service. The music added a pleasant ambiance without being overpowering. Well...let me start by saying that I had been getting a Deva Cut for years in Alabama. Moved to Georgia... then went back and forth for a couple years getting a regular cut and wearing it straight and getting curly cuts. I decided it was time for a curly cut so I could rock my curls for the summer and my usual spot was booked up. I was able to get an appointment here for less than 3 weeks away so thought what the heck?! Day of, I walked in with my freshly washed hair and was greeted (sorta) at the front desk by the woman that was going to do my hair. She quickly walked me to my chair, asked me a couple questions and then started snipping away. Finished snipping and walked me back to the bowl for a wash (if you call it that) I really don't even think my whole head got wet, and then she proceeded to put soooooooooo much product in my hair. I just kept hearing her hit the pump over and over again. Then to the drier for about 20 minutes, then back to the chair to be diffused and a few more strands snipped. Ending results were eh. I'm hoping it will look better after I wash and style. But isn't it usually the other way around? read more

Finding a great colorist is rare, but finding one as talented, warm, and caring as Didi is rare and reason to celebrate. She's a true master of her craft--my color always looks stunning when she's done working her magic, and she keeps my hair incredibly healthy too. I gave this salón three chances before I finally decided to move on to somewhere else. The first curly cut I got was fine, but I felt like the stylist didn't listen to me when I told her what my hair needed (in terms of products), and then she got frustrated when it wouldn't style like she wanted. We ended up having to rewet and reapply products a couple times, and then I actually styled it myself because the stylist was too frustrated. And still payed full price. I got a balayage for the first time back in May. I asked for a root smudge, but I don't feel like that was achieved. There's a pretty distinct line of color at my roots now. I called and asked if I could just book a root touch up to bring the color up to my roots and cover and new growth, but I was told I would have to book a full balayage. Just for a couple inches at my roots. To me, that's a rip off. I'll be going somewhere else from now on. It's a shame, because a curly salon is hard to find. read more

As someone who hasn't had a trim since October 2017, I have been meaning to get my 1st DevaCut for some time now. After doing some research, I wanted to make sure I picked a salon that had DevaCut certified hair stylists who truly know how to do a "dry cut" on any texture of curly hair. Enter CurlEnvy!!! I'm so glad I came across this place thanks to my fellow Yelpers who have been blessed by James and Shawn! First and foremost, if you want to get on their appointment book, I sincerely hope you don't need your hair done on a "last minute basis". I had to make an appt for James almost a month in advance - his book fills up quickly with almost no availability on the weekends (always a good sign). My appointment was at 6pm on a Thursday night. My first impression of him was already off to a good start because James had his hands in my hair at 6:01pm! I have been to many salons in my life and ZERO have been as prompt as CurlEnvy. He asked all the right questions about how I wear my hair and gave good suggestions on keeping my length but still giving my hair a great shape to frame my face well. Then, enter Shawn - he shampooed my hair (very pleasant experience) and applied product. He was very knowledgeable about the DevaCurl product line and the best application of it into my hair. Both of them are experts on curl care and hair health, which was very comforting. Overall, my curls were SLAYED when it was all said and done. And, they got me in and out in less than 2 hours (which is the amount of time I expected everything to take). I was very impressed with CurlEnvy and I have already scheduled my next appointment. Another thing to mention is that since my appointment was in the evening, Shawn was gracious enough to walk me to my car to make sure I got there safely. I was very appreciative of that! I had to wait a few days to post my review. When I left the salon, I didn't instantly love it. I mean, it looked very 'cute' and healthy, but I had the dreaded cut down (don't go a year without cutting your hair people.) I knew it needed to go, but it looked shorter than I thought it would and also the curl pattern looked less tight. Then I had to work a lot of long shifts back to back, so I didn't have time to spend trying to style it and figure out how to work with it. And it got worse every day. Wait guys, I actually DO love my hair. They did a great job. And the salon experience was great. I felt very comfortable with James and the guy who styled me (I'm sorry I forgot your name!!!) I'm new to the area and got lots of tips. So I know this is a long review, but I'm just prefacing that I wasn't sold on the cut (I knew it was going to take a few days to adjust.) Well, today I finally had time to wash and go, and I love it!!! My curls look so healthy, tight, and I got some length back the way I styled it! The guy who styled my hair recommended two deva products and they worked sooo well. I'm obsessed. I can't wait for tomorrow to work with my day two hair. I am transitioning my naturally curly hair and I came across this place online. Based on the reviews & cost, I decided to finally go for it. Depending on the stylist, they're all pretty booked all the time. So you definitely want to lock something in even if it's 8+ weeks out. I waited 35 minutes to be seen by the hair stylist Jen. Although everyone seemed extremely nice and polite; I didn't feel the sense of urgency to be seen. If these appointments are booked months in advance the stylists should be able to schedule themselves out accordingly. My cut experience was OK. It was not what I imagined it to be as I expected for the session to be more informative than anything. Everything felt rushed rather than relaxed. After all when you go to the salon it should like a pampering session. The tech explained what she was putting in my hair from time to time, in her low toned voice and the cut she wanted to give me. Minimal questions were asked about what I do and what I should be doing going forward. Towards the end I was diffused with HEAT by someone completely different than who I started with. I'm confused. Thought I was supposed to stay away from heat? Overall I felt like a cookie cutter client. Probably not coming back. It was OK. Not good but not horrible either. read more

Pros -The location was beautiful and the interior of the salon was really nice as well. -I have LOTS of thick Afro hair and it is hard to find a place to cut it that won't charge me and arm and a leg. I thought the value was nice compared to a different salon I've been to in Miami ($250 to cut a few inches off). I only paid a flat rate of $100 for them to cut my hair and I tipped my stylist. Cons -I found it very annoying that my stylist had to shuffle between three other clients. I spent about 5-6 hours for my cut and steam treatment. Maybe if it was just a cut it would have been shorter. I found that annoying though because I'm use to having the attention only on me in salons. I would still recommend though! read more

Book with Jennifer!! I'm from NY and just recently arrived in Atlanta. I am super picky with my hairstylist and will do extensive research before letting anyone cut my hair. I had a great experience here. I arrived right at my appointment time - maybe one minute late (so unlike me; whoops!) and they knew exactly who I was and I was seated in James' chair as I walked in. We talked through what I wanted, my expectations, and my hesitancies. The last time I truly cut my hair was over 10 years ago (!!) and I had been debating this cut for literally four months. James made me feel comfortable and relaxed, and didn't cut any more than what I wanted. He checked in with me frequently and was very reassuring. He actually had to cut more after my hair (with my encouragement of course was styled because he hadn't cut enough! The salon was in transition - getting ready to relocate - and it was still clean and organized. It's an intimate space but didn't feel crowded. Everyone was amazing and the vibe at the salon was so chill. The products being used were explained every step of the way, yet I felt ZERO pressure to purchase anything. I feel like that's rare. Ok!!!!! Sooo where do I even start....????? I have always been sooo hesitant about letting anyone touch my hair let alone cut it. After almost 6 years of being natural I finally decided I needed to find a stylist. I researched stylists in the area for months and the deva cut as well. I finally decided to take the plunge and give it a try. I was lucky enough to snag an appointment last minute and let's just say I am beyond happy that I did. As soon as I walked in the door James greeted me with a smile and like he already knew me. The vibe was amazing and the other stylists there were so kind. James took the time to listen to my concerns and reassured that he was only going to do what I was comfortable with. He educated me about proper curly hair care and everything in between. Very disappointed with the highlights - now my hair has zero depth because my darker hair color was covered and it's light yellow and gray. We discussed keeping the 4 colors: dark brown, gray and adding two tones of blonde, dark and light. What gave me the most depth was my brown, now gone. CurlEnvy is the only salon I trust with my curls. I've experienced both Stacie & James, and to say these hair artists are incredible is an understatement. First, it's obvious that they've really studied their craft. During my appointments, I've seen every kind of curl from the loosest wave to the tightest coil leave transformed into the best hair for them! They don't have a cookie-cutter approach like some natural hair salons, each style is as unique as the people who rock them! Additionally, the staff have such wonderful personalities and work so well together. Everyone is so likable, kind, and fun to be around that you feel like FAMILY. Despite the familial vibes, they're still very professional (even when clients are not ). Next, the price. CurlEnvy is the most REASONABLY PRICED curly salon I've seen!! No wonder they stay booked so many months in advance. I've had a Deva Cut, steam hydration, finger styling, and am booked for coloring and every service is so greatly executed that it feels like a steal! Lastly, my hair is FLAWLESS! The shape, moisture-retention (I have very dry hair), definition, shine, etc. are a dream! Every time I leave the salon, my husband asks "Why don't your curls look like this at home?", in which I reply, "because I'm not a hair wizard". I started wearing my hair curly again about a year and a half ago. I went to James for my first DevaCut and told him I was worried that I had damaged my hair by blow drying it and straightening it for years. After a much needed cut to get rid of all the damaged hair, he brought my curls back to life! Every cut I get is amazing and brings new life into my hair. I went this past weekend after my hair had been driving me crazy. It just wasn't curling the way I was used to. After a fresh cut and steam (to get rid of product buildup), my curls are back! I can't recommend James and the other stylists at CurlEnvy enough. Be sure to get on the schedule early, they get booked really far in advance! I also recommend scheduling a steam. My daughter went here for a simple haircut and she has very curly hair, she sent pictures of what she wanted and was told that it shouldn't be a problem. My wife or I couldn't go with her due to the pandemic (understandable) so she had no one to make sure things were done right. When she got there the hairdressers spoke in front of her about how they were not sure if a woman named Zee/Dee could handle her hair but let her do it anyway. When she was done my daughter's hair was terrible and she came home in tears and appalled at her first experience going to a hair salon on her own. She went somewhere else to get it fixed and we will never come back to orror this place to anyone. I'm writing this review because my daughter posted one and it has been deleted or not posted here. I had been going to the same hairdresser for 10 years but I just got fed up my "ex-hairstylist" lack of customer service - and his work started to slip. So, having curly hair, I looked up curly hair stylists in Atlanta and found James. Boy am I glad I did! I went to his salon determined to chop off my long curls for some short curls and I'm so happy I decided to trust him. He paid close attention to my needs and wants, and gave me the best haircut of my life. He took off around 8 inches and also highlighted my hair - both the cut and color were splendid. He also took the time to go over how to style my hair, what products to use, and what he thought of the products I had been currently using at the time. Bonus was the great conversation, wonderful shampoo massage, and the glass of wine at the end. Can't say enough good things about this salon. Loved my experience here. I had the pleasure of seeing Stacie. She's very patient, accommodating and knows what she's doing! I expressed that I was going through postpartum shedding and wanted to come in with my hair already washed with deep conditioner in, and already detangled . She was absolutely ok with me doing this. I've been to a couple of other stylist that refuse to do your hair if they don't wash and condition your hair themselves, so this was a plus plus when she allowed me to do so. I have 4b hair and she knew how to handle my hair without creating extra tangles when she handled it. I went in for a silk press and trim and she did an exceptional job...WOW!!
