I had complications following molar tooth extraction surgery, with chronic and severe nerve pain (8 out of 10) lasting 3 months. I could not chew on that left side, I struggled to open my mouth fully and the swelling with pain was a daily problem. After 20 days of treatment by Dr. Grin, my pain has dropped from an 8 to a 2, with swelling and pain receding over the last few weeks. I only wish I had known about Dr. Grin sooner! SCAM ARTISTS!!!!! PLEASE DONT SEE THESE GUYS! I went to Dr. Grin the son while I was in significant TMJ pain and was hoping for relief and clear guidance. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I was charged a ridiculous amount of money which felt very high but I was desperately seeking some pain relief. They promised me they would send all my payments to my PPO and I would get reimbursed. Months later I call my insurance company and they said that nothing was ever sent by the office. What was most upsetting was feeling financially strained during an already vulnerable time. When you're in pain, you trust that a medical professional will prioritize your well-being. I felt like they were scam artist and just taking advantage of you and promising you some sort of pain relief. I got zero pain relief, payed thousands of dollars and when I called them out they sent me a letter saying they wanted to terminate me as a patient. They caused me much more stress and heightened my pain that they were supposed to help me with. I would strongly encourage others to not waste your time and money seeing these father and son duo unless you want empty pockets, no pain relief and feeling like you just got scammed. No one was able to even provide a suitable diagnosis. Someone recommended I try Dr Grin and I'm very glad I did! He and his staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I had seen many specialists for my TMJ pain before coming across Dr. Grin. I came into his office with pain so severe that I was struggling to chew my food. *updated review 6/18: Thank you for refunding me $160. Changed review from 1 start to 3 star. I went to Dr. Grin for a second opinion about my TMJ diagnosis. I was led to believe that by providing the report from my initial consult and paying $170 that I would receive a second opinion from Dr. Grin. After paying $170 for this "consult" I was informed by Dr. Grin that these initial results cannot be used and that he would not review the very comprehensive CT scans that I already paid almost $300 for. He then informed me that I would have to pay around another $300 for a radiologist that they are contracted with to conduct a "more in depth scan" and based on their interpretation of said scan, he could then provide me with a second opinion. That assessment is fine & I can understand where he is coming from. However, I would highly recommend that when someone comes in seeking consult for a second opinion that they are made aware upfront that they will not receive this second opinion unless their results are interpreted by a radiologist. I sent my results in advance per the office's consult. After the appointment, they said they have "seen this issue before" based on these types of results. I was not made aware of this prior to my appointment & I was led to believe I would receive a second opinion based on what I provided. I do not doubt that Dr. Grin is a fine choice for some but I feel that I have been hoodwinked and if I was presented with this information on the front end, I could have saved myself $170 dollars and my time. My fiancé had issues with staying awake while driving. We tried googling solutions but nothing worked. I told him to try going to a specialist but he said sleep specialists do not exist! After looking on Yelp, we found South Bay TMJ who specializes in sleep, headaches and pain! My fiancé took a chance and called to make an appointment. The process was very easy and we were able to schedule him within a week. The front desk was able to send new patient forms online for us to fill out and return. I came to the office with my fiancé. Parking was easy and the office was very clean and staff was welcoming. The front desk greeted us, all with smiles. We were able to meet with both Drs. Grin. A father and son business! Both VERY knowledgeable and answered every question we had. The front ladies were so accommodating! My fiancé was wondering where he can pick up his medication and they suggested locations near by and even called a pharmacy to see if they took his insurance! Definitely went above and beyond. After leaving the office, my fiancé said he felt everyone he encountered: the doctors, assistants, and the front staff actually cared about his well-being and he never felt that way before leaving a medical place. Came here a few months ago for a tmj evaluation due to severe pain I was having in my jaw. First off when the doctor walked in and was doing evaluation he didn't seem to bother to answer any of my concerns or questions and didn't seem to care . I paid $855 dollars for a ct scan and consultation that I could have got cheaper elsewhere and seemed like he just wanted to get the quick money for the ct scan and just said to me that he needs to see the scan before doing anything. He didn't explain any treatment options and basically just said go home and take medications. Consultations mean the doctor should answer questions and concerns that the patient has he seems to have had no answers very disappointing ! read more

I had an appointment with Dr Grin and I was so excited to see him because I was in a lot of pain. Several days before my appointment, I called to reschedule because of a family emergency. was told it would be about six months (!!!) until he had an opening again. This felt very strange to me because making the appt. only took one week. At the time I made the appointment, I was told if I needed to cancel or reschedule they required 24 hour notice and that if that happened they could fit me in the same month again. I fully abided by their policy of informing the office before 24 hours and in fact informed them several full days prior. I thought there must be a mistake about the six month wait, so I called back another day and was told they could see me within a week. I was thrilled! They gave me the time and date and then began to take down my information. But as soon as I gave my name, the woman placed me on hold. When she came back, she suddenly said that Dr Grin doesn't have availability anymore and won't for a year! At that point, I realized something was going on and. They must have some sort of blacklist for anyone who reschedules, even if their rescheduling was well before 24 hours of the appointment. Based on seeing these other reviews, I realize now that is not just a failure of office staff, it must be a top down policy with Dr Grin himself. I was so disappointed and upset that I never tried to make another appointment with Dr Grin again and found another doctor instead. I had been so excited to see Dr Grin and was left feeling like I didn't matter at all. The incident left such a bad taste in my mouth that I felt compelled to warn others as well. Where do I start? Office staff is rude, unresponsive to calls, and they have the nerve to charge o money grab of $79 for a copy of the $1500 out of pocket CT scan they insist you do. And when asked for one copy at a reasonable price, Dr. Grin refused b/c "office staff get to decide these things". Nothing covered by insurance and they milk you for every dollar. For MAD device there are dentists who specialize in making them who may charge less than Dr Paul Grin's office. Appropriate office signage for Dr Grin's office would be wolves on a green pasture disgused as sheep. Deceptive, getting you in as a patient by intially taking your medical insurance for medical issue (Claim paid for August 2023) But then come the high ticketed bills with DEMAND for immediate payment ($2860) and their REFUSAL to file a claim "Insurance will not pay for that" (NOT true in my case, or review from 1/24/24 KG) Kicker: You will be charged the higher rate as though you did not even have insurance. Dr Grin's PRP procedure cured my TMJ and got me out of pain. I have had PRP injections several times before in my knees and shoulder. They had no real noticeable effect. The PRP procedure at Dr Grin's office was different. My bite returned to normal in the following few days. And my pain was gone. I had a subsequent CT scan a year after the procedure, and there was noticeable regrowth of the tissue. I was honestly surprised and didn't expect much from the procedure. I have been working with Dr. Grin for over 3 years based on a recommendation from my then dentist--he is well known by many neurologists and dentists in the South Bay. He was able to properly diagnose my TMJ and put me on a plan to help alleviate my pain after many conversations with dentists and doctors. Recently, after a few visits to the ER, he was able to recognize, diagnose, and treat cluster headaches as well. I've had a TMJ problem for 40+ years. Several months ago I had a flareup of symptoms, including morning headaches, tension in my jaw, and clicking/knocking sounds when opening and closing my mouth. I was referred to Dr. Paul Grin, an orofacial dentist specializing in pain management and TMJ disorders. On my first visit, Dr. Grin took my medical and dental history, examined the dental work in my mouth, and took precise measurements of my bite before making the mold. That same day I had imaging of the TMJs in the comfort of his office to rule out arthritis, etc. Based on Dr. Grin's clinical findings and extensive experience treating TMJ patients, I had a custom bite plate made that is worn on the lower teeth during sleep to prevent clenching of the mouth and grinding of teeth that exacerbate TMJ symptoms. I've been wearing this appliance for several months, and last week had a followup visit with Dr. Grin to report my progress. I was happy to report that I no longer have morning headaches and the clicking/knocking sounds in my jaw are almost gone! I am very pleased with these results. TMJ: I had been suffering from my first onset of TMJ for about 6 months. I had tried various solutions, including introducing a mouth guard from my Dentist - but the pain and sharp snapping in my jaw continued. I was very fortunate to be referred to Dr. Grin by my Dentist. Dr. Grin specializes in TMJ and put me through a series of oral facial x-ray/scans and a few tests and results showed severe arthritis. I see that trying to fix your poor reviews by calling ONE missed call from an incident that was not in my control shows a lack of compassion. You are in the medical field which should provide care in any circumstance. I hope that someone shows you and your office continual grace even though your policy does not show that. Dr. Grin is very patient, kind and gentile and works to find the best for pain and discomfort. His back office assistants were very warm and friendly. I came to him in TMJ pain. I signed a form upfront that said insurance would not pay for appliances, only to find out my insurance would after I contacted them. The office only bills for M codes, (which is a medical code) even though Dr. Grin is not an M.D. and they do not bill for D codes which falls under Dentistry. Carmen, would not jeopardize her billing certificate to help me. I put in for a review from my insurance company and they reimbursed me 80%. Prior to, I battled and battled with Carmen to help me with a code, and she said she could not. This went on for months with her. At the point of exasperation, I stopped going there. Buyer beware, check with your insurance first, and make sure you have the correct code, because you will not get help from Carmen in the billing dept. She made the whole experience miserable, that I chose to leave and go somewhere else. I doubt Dr. Grin even knew. I give him 5 stars I give her 0. read more

Note: This review is not about Dr. Grin's abilities as a doctor, but about the practice and staff. My husband was taken to the hospital today after a motorcycle accident. I ran to the ER to see him. I called dr Grin's office and told them I wouldn't be able to make it to my appointment and needed to reschedule because of this family emergency. Instead of being understanding, the woman was angry and actually hung up on me when I said I couldn't make it. I called back and was sent to voicemail. Finally they picked up the third try and told me no matter the reason, they will not reschedule because I wasted their hour. I was planning on driving two hours, after waiting over a month for this appointment, and being willing to pay out of pocket just to see this doctor because I needed a specialist in my condition and he wasn't covered by my insurance. I needed this doctor, and all I would like is to see him, but the staff is making it impossible. I missed an appointment through no fault of my own, and am currently sitting in the ER with a husband with full body injuries. I hope this policy changes soon. read more

I was referred to Dr. Grin by my dentist after I began having worsening TMJ pain. The front staff and his assistant were very friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to get a CT scan in the office and had impressions done to make an appliance for me to wear at night. While I was waiting for the appliance to be made Dr. Grin gave me suggestions on how to ease my pain and what foods to eat/avoid.
