Phones not in service. Does not respond to secure messaging. It's impossible to schedule?? He's otherwise a great doctor

Tried to make appointment and phone number does not work??? I was referred by primary doctor??? What a joke

I was not happy with my initial dermatologist even though i had gone there for several years on various skin issues, so I asked my doctor for another name. I was given a list, read all the reviews, and landed with Dr. Hartman. Since there are comments about previous receptionist(s), I want to say that his current assistant is VERY nice! I've visited twice, and each time both assistant and doctor were very professionally. One time I had to wait a little longer than usual, and he was very apologetic. How often does that happen?! He has excellent bedside manners and was able to give me different treatment ideas. He spent adequate time with me going through all my issues. On New Year's Eve (they might have been closed), I had a prescription problem that was going to cost me extra money if it rolled into the new year, and he returned my call to help me out. The office is very clean, and they have COVID protocols in place. There is ample street parking, and I think there is a parking lot behind the building. They do have a cancelation fee if you cancel same day, so please abide by that. read more

I was concerned about something and didn't want it to end up being something serious; so after seeing an internist, I was encouraged to see a dermatologist. Dr. Hartman was the first name on their list. Dr. Hartman's office is very convenient to my commute, so this was a double win. I have a bit of a challenging work schedule to work around, and their office was very accommodating. I was lucky enough to be able to get a same day appointment at the end of the day - which almost never happens with any doctor's office (and especially with some specialists like dermatology). I spent about 5 minutes filling out some paperwork. The receptionist was very courteous and friendly. Dr. Hartman was very kind, thorough, reassuring, and professional. He was also gracious enough to spend a few minutes discussing another skin issue even though his office was just about to close up. The office was COVID ready, staff and physician were masked, and hand sanitizer was adequately available. Thanks for the great service and being able to see me on such short notice. Very appreciated! Notes: Please don't take your skin for granted. Take care of it, and if you see something that doesn't look right, please consider getting some medical advice. Melanomas and other skin cancers are very real and can be very sneaky. Sleep well, stay hydrated, use moisturizer, watch the sun exposure. Be well. (I am a medical professional and this does not constitute medical advice. I do not work for nor am I affiliated with this office. I received no compensation for this review, and this is an honest representation in my own words.) read more

8 years ago I had a very bad experience with their receptionist in their Daly City office. I came back today to their Burlingame office and had a fantastic experience with the receptionist. Jennifer was polite, professional, compassionate and efficient. She was even able to fit me in their busy schedule when someone canceled. She even turned the ac up in the entire office because I told her how much the heat inflamed and irritated my rash. Thanks for giving me an outstanding and exemplary experience Jennifer! As far as Dr. Hartman, he was also just as great. However, I've yet to try the treatment he prescribed, so for now I'll hold off on reviewing his skill at diagnosing my symptoms and overall expertise as a dermatologist. read more

I highly recommend Dr Hartman. He listens carefully, asks the right question's and is very knowledgeable and personable. The receptionist is excellent. They are there to help. I greatly appreciate their service read more

Went to see Dr. Paul Hartman ..receptionist was able to squeeze me into their appointment She is always helpful and professional and listens to my issues in life!!! thank you.... Had a big zit on the back of my neck I look like a sis, Was worried about growing a second head on the back of my neck which would not look good for my appearance got an injection and hopefully it's going away soon usually Shrink and flattened out look like normal skin again read more

The receptionist is all you need to know. You have been warned! She is unprofessional, rude, obnoxious, and condescending. I have never experienced someone in a service profession that exemplifies this more than her. In a day and age where there are many options, why would someone continue to be so blatantly disgraceful to customers? Dr Hartman, for the sake of your reputation, please consider another receptionist. I would be happy to start a Go Fund Me petition to swiftly help to find a replacement. Future patients, again, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! read more

Dr. Hartman is an OK dermatologist BUT he has serious problems in his office. When you walk in the door, you're assaulted with a barrage of negative messages and signs. Their policies appear to be so punitive that they either are very disorganized or have a very low opinion of their patients. Too Bad! (with just minimal investigation) Turns out I'm not alone in my concerns. I've written the doctor a comprehensive letter but I have my doubts as to whether it will get past "the Guard." I'll update this review if anything happens. read more

Dr. Hartman is awesome. My mom brought me to Dr. Hartman about ten years ago as a teen, and he made my keloid go away. :) Now I'm old with my own insurance and everything! I visited Dr. Hartman a few days ago to treat another keloid. My appointment went great! He injected me with a cortisone shot, and it hurt just a little, but he was gentle. He knows what he's doing and is very professional about everything. He's an excellent dermatologist and l'll continue to go to him until I can't anymore! read more

I wanted to see a dermotologist ASAP and Dr. Hartman was the only one who could take me in the next day after calling around the list on Yelp. I was a bit worried since he has a low star rating but I read that it's mostly the receptionists. I walked in and the receptionists were just normal and cool! They are quite funny too but I can see some people may lack of their sense of humor. Dr. Hartman was friendly, professional and super nice. He didn't mind checking my feet as well even though the problem was on my hand. He was so generous and gave me a bunch of sample medication and it worked so well as he said in two weeks. Thank you, Dr. Hartman! read more

I don't know WHAT people are talking about... I saw Dr. Hartman today and his staff is great and so is he. He's also not bad on the eyes :) Yeah Buddy! Anyways, he didn't do unnecessary testing on me like some doctors would and he was friendly and fast. He has a great bedside manner and I would recommend him to my friends and family. read more

Dr. Hartman, you have a bad reputation because of your receptionist. You should definitely consider how unaccompanied and rude she is to your patients. Your values are reflected through your staff and she definitely claims your values are only money and not helping your clients condition. My company switched over to a new insurance company, because I haven't received my Blue Shield ID card but I DO HAVE the temporary ID from the insurance website she hastily said I have to full self pay for my visit today in cash. This is terrible service, are you kidding me? I understand if I don't have any information at all, but I have everything the card says. Thanks for wasting me time, hopefully you get new help around your office because she's going to lose you a lot of clients. read more

What I find really interesting about the low star reviews is that for the most part, they do not apply to Dr. Hartman himself. The reviews are directed towards the receptionist in the Daly City location. My experience with the receptionist in Daly City was over the phone. She is direct and informative. Hardly rude. I was informed well in advance that they take cash or checks (no cards). I was beyond impressed with Dr. Hartman. I brought my daughter in for what I thought would be the standard 2 minute appointment (teenage acne). Instead, Dr. Hartman spent around 20 minutes of face time with us. He even walked us across the hall to personally refer me to a colleague of his. I'm so impressed, I plan to switch to Dr. Hartman from my dermatologist in SF. Highly recommend. read more

I found Dr Hartman to be very nice. I also found his front office staff to be rude and very unfriendly. They sent me to the wrong lab and was unable to get my specimen diagnosed . It was almost 5pm and the lab I should of gone to was closed. I had an appointment that I had to cancel due to my work schedule and was told I would be charged $50.00 cancellation fee. I told the receptionist I had no choice but to cancel and she did not care. I asked her what was more important the $50.00 or my business but she did not care.I had never cancelled an appointment in less than 24 hours before. The next day I got the bill for $50.00. Needless to say they lost my business. read more

You should not leave a physician negative reviews secondary to the secretary who has since left. This physcian has correctly diagnosed my daughter from the age if 4 yo to 11 yo multiple times. Personally I would shut up and deal with the staff and have a wonderful knowledgeable physcian treat myself or my family. In addition it is more important to have the physcian correctly diagnose me and provide a treatment plan versus a fancy transparent office in Union square. read more

Dr. Hartman has been fantastic, I found him to be genuine and caring it's hard when you have a dermatology problem and feel uncomfortable in public he was fantastic and helped my problem out fast. This time when I went the receptionist treated me nice and cordial and I can't say that's always been the case but after reading some of these, maybe she read them and changed. I recommend dr. Hartman, seems to me a really good man, read more

Incredible Dermatologist with an amazing bedside manner! I've been bringing my kids (and self) here for years now and will never switch Drs! Front desk people are equally awesome with me, people need to understand that you get what you give. Thank you a million times over read more

Just had a video call with Dr. Hartman....How cool is that? You don't even have to leave your home to see the doctor...I have seen the doctor in person a couple of times and now on the phone. I have to say, I have never had a bad moment with this wonderful doctor. He's very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommended! read more

Short version: the receptionist in front is no fun.. I feel like my business is not wanted here. Note taken! I'm never coming back. My experience: I was referred by my OBGYN, so I assumed this was a great office and did not do any research. Oops ! On my first visit, I waited a minute for the woman at the front office (she was busy, no big deal) she turns to me after a bit and asks an irritated "......yes?!" (I would expect a hello..) I tell her I am a new patient and have an appointment. She gives me stuff to fill out and notices I have a bottle of juice.. She curtly indicated one (of the many) printed signs that says no food or drink, and takes my juice into another room. Weird. So when I see the doctor, he is pleasant and kind, but.. During my 15 minute consultation, one of the staff opens the door and asks the doctor a question... THREE different times! Like it was no big deal, no apology, excuse me, nothing! (Please note, I'm only covered by a small paper thing they give you to cover with.) it didn't sound like an emergency. I was kind of embarrassed. And the doctor doesn't seem to want to do what I am asking him for help with (basically removing a small non threatening mole type growth) then he tells me it's not covered by my insurance. So I call my insurance later, and lucky for me, my situation IS covered. I'm not sure why they would tell me it's not covered at Dr Hartman's, unless they never even bothered to call.. I get a bill for a lousy $40 in the mail a couple of months later, and it has a nasty little sticker on it that says along the lines of 'pay soon or we have no choice but to send your debt to a collection agency'. This was the first bill I got from them! It said 'second notice' so MAYBE something happened to the other one. No choice, huh? They never thought of calling the phone number I gave them? I go in to the office to pay, and the same lady is there. I pull out my debit card to pay and she snaps at me that they don't take plastic (!) super condescending, tells me I can write a check or use the ATM downstairs. What a peach! Worst $40 I spent in awhile. Total waste of my time. read more

I moved so I looked for another dermatologist in my new area. I found Dr Hartman and I decided to give him a shot. I have acne problems and he wasnt good at prescribing me with medicine. I basically had to tell him what to prescribe me based on what my previous doctor had prescribed to me. Also, his receptionist is the rudest person you can ever meet. She completely lacks customer service skills and could care less about you as a patient. Anyway, only go here if it's your last resort. I'm off to search for a new dermatologist. read more

Every time I call to make an appointment I am always put on hold for at least 10 minutes. Judging from the rest of the reviews, what could the receptionist be possibly doing that would take minutes to answer a call? *EDIT #1* Wow after I was put off hold I told them I wanted to make an appointment, then she put me on hold again. Once i was off hold again she asked me what I wanted... *EDIT #2* She did it again *EDIT #3* Turns out the person picking up my calls was just "taking messages" because it is during lunch hours and they will be back at 1:00. It was 1:15. read more

Dr Hartman is a phenomenal Physician and deserves 20 stars, his staff on the other hand lacks tact and are very rude over the phone and in person. They are not willing to help facilitate the billing aspect of the visit, they just want you to figure it out yourself with your insurance company. While I provided my insurance information they just seemed unconcerned with the details of that portion and sent me a bill to work it out myself. While I have been a patient of Dr. Hartman for a while, I have to say this was the last straw and I am moving on. read more

the Dr. is fine and somewhat knowledgable and nice, but the receptionist is unaccommodating, unhelpful and rude. The office/practice is like a time capsule when you walk in. the idea of accepting credit cards or using email to provide documentation/information (for example) is an entirely foreign concept to these people and the computer in the office is literally a 1980s model IBM word processor. on the up side i was able to get an appointment within 2 days. read more

The receptionist who answered my call yesterday is so ill-mannered that I decided to cancel my appointment and vow never to visit the clinic. read more

The receptionist was so incredibly rude that I finally just hung up and decided to go to another doctor. This clearly seems to be a pattern. I called asking to be become a new patient and to set up an appointment for next week. She told me to give her a specific time because she couldn't just look at the calendar (in an offensive tone*). I asked what the office hours were to give me a better sense of availability and she refused to tell me, and told me to "just give her the time I wanted". I gave her a time and she said it doesn't work with office hours... (the entire reason why I asked for them in the first place). Then she proceeded to be very rude and condescending in tone, that I finally told her I would go elsewhere and I hung up. This was a shame because it looks like the doctor himself has great reviews and it's clearly the receptionist that is the problem. read more

Seriously, the old lady in the front with the black and white peppered hair (not the blonde) is horrible with front end interface with patients. She is so rude! There is no excuse for her continuous poor attitude. On the other hand, the doctor is fine. He was nice and has strong opinions of what will work for you or not. I like how he actually listens to you. He doesn't offer new innovative cosmetic procedures though. The office looks old and looks behind with technology, I see her typing on a loud typewriter. Because of the poor customer service by the lead receptionist, I will not be returning. As a patient, I do not have to be treated poorly. The doctor is losing returning patients because of her! read more

No...just no. Find someone, anyone else. The receptionist was not as bad as other reviews here lead you to believe, but um...I should not be handed a clipboard with a stack of the same form and be told to fill out the first one....on which I can clearly see the pen indentations of the prior poor soul to enter here....including private information! Secondly...imagine a slimy used car salesman. That's the persona of the doctor who will greet you. With all the tact, upsells and professionalism that entails. read more

I was very happy with my first visit here. The necessary paperwork was minimal and I was seen quickly. Dr. Hartman had a friendly disposition and was very informative. I wouldn't hesitate to see him again or refer friends. read more

Dr. Hartman's office is greedy and dishonest. They resort to threatening their patient's credit rating, when their patients refuse to pay more than they owe. Even after receiving a letter from my insurance company, which clearly states that his services have been paid for in full he continues to attempt to over charge me and threatens my credit rating. Rest assured, I will be again notifying my insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of this strong arming. read more

Dr. Hartman and his office were wonderful. He was very professional and took the time to listen to me. He also gave me coupons to make sure I didn't overpay for any of my prescriptions. When I ran into issues filling my prescriptions with the pharmacy and my insurance company, the receptionist at his office took the time out of her day to personally call the pharmacy and drug companies to resolve the issue. Excellent service and would definitely go back! read more

Wish I could write a review for the dermatologist alone because he is great, the receptionist up front on the other hand is extremely unprofessional and rude. I actually referred a friend of mine there and they turned her away because her ins card was on her phone and not on on a piece of paper. Nowhere else has this ever been a problem whether in a doctors office, dental office or pharmacy. I myself will be will be going to a new dermatologist from now on until they fix the issues they have in the front office. read more

Just left the doctors office. Dr. Hartman is a great and personable dermatologist. Greeted me with enthusiasm and a hand shake as soon as he walked through the doors (probably to make up for his rude and unprofessional receptionist). I agree with all the other Yelpers on here. His receptionist is just flat out rude, not compassionate, and very disrespectful. It's a drag speaking with her! From the time I made my appointment to the time I stepped into the office...I was completely unsatisfied with her service. All she cares about is getting the co payments and leaving work on time. I don't understand why she is still working there. You make money off of us, the customers! So the least you could do is provide good customer service! If you don't like your job, then leave, and give someone else who would value the job a bit more a chance! read more

If I could give the medical staff no stars I would. The doctor himself is, ok, but not very competent in his field of expertise. His staff is horrible, the mature female I call her the "old one" just is manipulative and angry. She purposefully sent me to the wrong lab. Evil doesn't even cover who she is. The younger girl, she just needs to get with it. She's just as hopeless. They only take cash or check, make sure you bring exact change or you'll have to go down to the store and make change. Horrible horrible horrible. read more

The individuals who posted negative reviews about the receptionist / office manager - Polly - do not need to see a dermatologist...they need to have their HEAD examined . I have visited Dr. Hartman for nearly 20 years now, perhaps only once or twice a year at the most, but dealing with Polly has always been an uncompromising professional and highly personable experience. She is about as nice and helpful a person as you can find in any doctor's office. This includes various phone transactions where assistance was needed with a prescription or an insurance payment clarification , etc .. not just in person visits. I honestly believe the posters either had a bad day where anything , no matter how insignificant would set them off and compel them to go into a rant, or , as I mentioned above, seek a psychiatrist to help you with your " condition " . read more

Basic things are fine to go to this place. I think he may know what he's doing but doesn't want to do anything to cure skin problems, he likely doesn't like his job. I notice he has no interest in curing bad skin conditions. The bad experiences I've read on here are real bad, the good experiences are due to the skin condition likely being a mild case. For mild cases a lot of skin issues are cured over the counter any way. It's true they want your money here, because you have to come back to get what you need. He must stay in business. read more
