I love Dr. Maldonado. She is thorough, informative, and so pleasant. I was in and out of my annual skin cancer screen appointment in 20 minutes. I did not have to wait at all, which is rare for a doctor's office. I find it difficult to understand the bad reviews for this doctor. I have not seen her for a specific issue so I cannot comment on how she would be in that situation. That being said, from my experience, I can't imagine she wouldn't take any of my concerns very seriously. I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat. I felt like Dr Maldonado rushed my appointment and didn't really care about my skin issues. She answered my questions quickly and kept asking, so anything else? And when I had another question, she hurriedly answered them. She took photos of my skin, which I thought was really odd. I have no idea what those photos will be used for. Finally, I was supposed to hear back in 5 days and nobody has contacted me yet. It's been over 30 days. I had to call in myself for an update. Note: I went for a skin rash that's been bothering me for weeks. This place looks like it focuses on cosmetic dermatology (ie facials, Botox, etc). All the posters in her room were for anti aging products. If you have a serious skin problem, I suggest going elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Dr. Janet for a couple years now, and the experience has been wonderful. You do have to book appointments out, I'm guessing because her office is super busy and she is that good! All the nurses I've seen are also very thorough with updating medical history which is appreciated. Growing up with skin problems, I've seen a number of dermatologists and am glad I finally found her office as my go-to. She is knowledgeable and good at answering any questions I may have, as well as making recommendations for my specific skin type. The appointments never feel rushed, as they have at other offices and she is great at explaining things. I have seen both Dr. Janet Maldonado and her sister Dr. Daria Maldonado. At first it SEEMS like they care but really they approach your skin problems with a "one size fits all" type approach. Everyone's skin is different even if they come in with common problems like acne. I'm not coming in and paying a ridiculous amount of money so you talk to me for 5 min and just prescribe me the same generic medications that every other derm MD has given me. I've tried the prescriptions pills and topicals - without results (my skin is actually the worst it's ever been). I'm leaving a lot poor and more depressed about my skin than ever. Man, dermatologists have it sooo good. They only work two days a week. In this case it happens to be Wednesdays and Fridays. So my one complaint is that I have a hard time getting in. But the upside is Dr. Maldonado is super good. She seems very knowledgeable and up to date on recent research. I guess that is to be expected since she just started practicing. She looks quite young and has GREAT skin - so you know she must know her stuff. Doesn't hurt that she went to Stanford, Harvard, and UCSF for her education.... So I burned my face cooking - freak accident I guess - and being vain it was a major concern that I minimize any possible scaring. We couldn't get into see the dermatologist soon enough so my husband found Dr. Maldonado via the Stanford alumni directory to ask her some pressing questions we had on my burn care. She has a kind manner and consults with others doctors when she wants to double-check her diagnosis. I called Dr. Janet office on 19th July and her team scheduled my appointment for 20th July. I started her prescription ASAP and like a magic wand it worked in just 6 hours in the evening I was looking great. I contacted Dr. Janet Maldonado's office so that my son could be seen by her. Dr. Maldonado's office said that she doesn't take the insurance of families who carry "individual" Blue Shield PPO plans as opposed to those who work for a "company" and have PPO plans through corporations (my husband is self employed and we carry the Blue Shield PPO insurance under an individual plan). She said if we went to her, we'd have to pay out of pocket. Not family friendly that's for sure!! read more

Dr. Maldonado and this dermatology group (Dr. Donald Kay included) have been our family dermatologist for many years: my niece, nephew, brother, sister-in-law, husband and I should get some sort of group discount, lol, because after all, what is life without a resident dermatologist :-) Anyway, they're fantastic! Dr. Maldonado I've been impressed with, is incredibly down to earth and friendly, not at all rushed or dismissive, as so many docs are. She takes her time and really listens. I went with my husband when she was removing some skin stuff, burning it off is more like it, and she was super conversational and chatty. She's been doing this a while and experienced, very efficient and knowledgeable, I'd recommend her in a heartbeat, also referred some clients and friends to this group. They take a wide variety of insurance, for my purposed UHC, though I've had some issues with the front desk where my insurance had to intervene. But this is not a reflection on the medical treatments and and knowhow of the doctors. Awesome experiences here, time after time. Highly recommend. read more

I've gone to her a total of 3 times and I think I've seen enough to say I'm never coming back. This doctor has no bedside manner at all. She has a condescending air about her and does not bother with long explanations. She talks like a text book and can make a diagnosis just by looking at your skin problem without any lab work (I guess she thinks she's that good). When I spoke to my primary doctor, she asked if this doctor even bothered to do a skin sample before telling me I have hand and nail psoriasis. She promptly gave me a referral slip. My entire family sees Dr. Maldonado and we love her. She is very personable and worked so well with my mom that had two problem areas that need to be operated on for possible skin cancer. She doesn't rush and listens to all of our concerns. I know that she hasn't ever taken a one-step approach with me and my family. The Dr was fine as far as doctors go. The office is a joke. My appointment was at 1:30, which is the first appointment after lunch. There were at least 30 people in the waiting room. The glass door at the counter slides open and everyone has to get in line. I felt like a cow being herded. They turn and burn those patients. I have never seen anything like it. The lady at the front desk could use a make-under as her makeup was wildly inappropriate for a dermatology office. I won't be going back. read more

I first went in to see Dr. Maldonado for a new spot on my wrist . It turned out to be nothing but she told me I should have my whole body looked at because I have a lot of moles. She ended up finding two different skin cancers on my back and shoulder that I hadn't even noticed! I would hate to think what would have happened if she hadn't talked me into checking my whole skin. She also did a great job cutting them out. The scars are still a little red but they look really good after only a couple of weeks. I have seen other dermatologists over the years for my crazy moles and she is the only one that cared enough to check all my moles without me asking. I couldn't recommend her more. read more

I was treated by Dr. Maldonado for a rather unsightly facial skin condition/spots. She was was very friendly and relaxed. She clearly knows her field, what I liked most about her is that she started off with the most non-invasive treatment with least side-effects first and only when that did not quite work for my skin condition did she proceed to the more assertive option. I've been to doctors who start with the biggest hammer they have in their toolbox aka a shotgun approach. But she was very sensitive to my plight and carefully orchestrated the treatment plan. This doctor is AMAZING! My normal derm couldn't squeeze me in so I saw Dr. Maldonado. I had a new, strange bump on my shoulder I was very concerned about and it was growing!! Dr. Maldonado was extremely PATIENT with me (I was kind of freaking out), she was so nice, GREAT bedside manner, and seemed genuinely concerned about MY concern and reassured me that it was ok. She didn't rush through my appt (I experience that quite often in some doctor offices), and she really knows her stuff! She explained everything THOROUGHLY (diagnosis, treatment options, recommendation, etc), she even asked how my other skin issues were doing (issues that were noted from old records of mine). She was very GENTLE, the treatment was virtually painless. She is GREAT I def RECOMMEND her!! I walked out of there feeling CALM and I really felt like she cared. I've been a patient of Dr. Maldonado's for several years and I was quite upset when i read a couple of the other Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I was blessed with a body covered in all sorts of moles and other small growths. I've had to see plenty of dermatologists over my lifetime and Dr. Maldonado is hands down the most thorough and caring of them all. The other reviewers seem to distrust that she can detect any abnormalities just by pure sight and with immediate recognition, but trust me she notices everything including even the smallest change in any of my hundreds of moles. If they confuse her efficiency for neglect, they are sorely mistaken -- this is what she was trained to do! And with a pedigree of Harvard and Stanford, I think i'll take my chances. She's never been anything but sweet and patient with me and I'll continue to see her as long as she'll have me as a patient. read more

My experience at Dr. Maldonado's office was so bad it inspired me to finally register with Yelp. She rushed me in and out, off-handedly told me I had a skin condition I never knew I had before, and explained nothing about it, questioned why I didn't want to use antibiotics "are you trying to get pregnant or something??", and was in general very un-informative and had absolutely no bed-side manner. I felt as though she was there to give me a quick once over, write me a prescription, and send me on my way as quickly as possible. I had other things I had planned to ask her about, but definitely did not feel like it was worth it. Not exactly what I was looking for in a first time appointment! I went to see Dr. Maldonado for Acne and she was great she got me started on a great treatment plan and now my acne is under control and I feel great. Then I went in to see her for a strange mark on my arm and she took a biopsy of it she reassured me it would be fine and it turned out it was just nothing. Dr. Maldonado is the best. I was getting these red bumps all over my legs and some other doctor gave me a steroid cream thinking they were bites. Turns out I had a gnarly staph infection that I probably picked up from my cat. As soon as Dr. Maldonado saw me she knew what I had but did a swab to double check. I immediately got better with the meds she gave me. I appreciated that Dr. Maldonado was thorough and explained everything to me even though she knew my issue right away. She is a keeper. read more

I agree with another reviewer on this Doctors lack of bedside manner. I had seen a previous doctor regarding my moles. His staff was horrible and his bedside manner was lacking too. So I decided to see Dr. Maldonado, since her yelp reviews were overall good. Well the staff at the office were much nicer here, but I DID wait over 30 minutes for only a 15 minute appointment. Overall, I was very disappointed by her attitude. I had concerns about a mole that was previously removed (pre-cancerous) by the way and I wanted to get another mole removed. To be proactive rather than reactive. She did a quick look and said it's fine and thats how you scar. Then she was more concerned about a wart on my finger, that I didn't even care about. She did remove that, by freezing it off. She seemed to enjoy that process. After this experience, I was willing to see my former doctor. At least he measured my moles, removed a pre-cancerous mole and seemed to take more examination of the rest of my moles. That says a lot if I'm willing to go back to my previous doctor and his horrible staff. She made me feel crappy about my concerns after I left. I'm not very happy with her attitude, hopefully she'll make the needed changes to her bed side manner. read more

Normally I wouldn't take the time to write on yelp, but I'm tired of having yelp lean towards the odd negative stories, and I want other people with skin issues to get relief. I wanted the most up to date information on using skin and nail treatments while pregnant or nursing. Dr. Maldonado explained all the research in as much detail as I wanted. She has also helped me immediately in urgent situations with advice and medicine that really worked. They were very accommodating and able to schedule an appointment for the next day. We walked into a packed waiting room and thought we were in for a long wait but we only waited 5 mins before getting into an exam room and another 2 mins before the Dr came in. I started seeing Dr. Maldonado early this year based off reviews I found on yelp, and I have to say she is wonderful! I've always had some form of acne growing up, but now that I'm in my late 40's I suffer from sebaceous cysts and she has helped me get it under control. In addition, she also has recommended treatments to help me age "gracefully". I also found her easy to talk to and I highly recommend her. Worst dermatologist I ever had. I went to her for removing a mole. She had me lay down on the table face down( no paper was put under my face so my face laid on the leather table with how many other people before me. I should have spoke up but I didn't), she talked small-talk with her nurse helper not caring if I was there or not, and I could tell from the stitches when I got home that it was a terrible stitch job. She told me to come back in two weeks for the stitch removal, which I thought was a long time and tried to get an earlier appointment but come to find out it was because she was off the next week. When I finally got my stitches removed, it looked horrible and is still horrible months later. I thought she'd be good because she's supposedly a Harvard grad. That obviously doesn't mean anything. I have an ugly botched procedure that is bigger than the size of a quarter on my body for a mole that was the size of Marilyn Monroes face dot. This is the first review I've ever given a doctor and I just want to spare someone else from her cold demeanor, and from deforming anyone else! Please find another doctor! read more
