This is a partial review until I can have a whole meal here. I went to a different food truck that didn't work for me, so I spent most of my time on the fourth deadly sin: envy. I coveted my son's burger so much I secretly wished he would get full or sick! I was going to burn in Dante's hell. He finally had enough. It was ginormous and did him in. Just in time for me to try a bite of his Chili Cheeseburger. It was fantastic! The chili seemed home made and just poured out of it. The cheese was well melted. The bun was just fantastic. And the patty was flavorful and well cooked. I should have started here and will return for my own full meal next time. read more

Patty Wagon - Letting it cool off. Dry hot, cheese melted and most of the chili under the bun. Once cooked, reassembled. - Food Trucks Near Me - San Marcos, Texas

PATTY WAGON is here now off 290W, on the way to Dripping Springs! We stopped in and my husband got the fish tacos and said they were the "best" and I got a 1/3 lb Cheeseburger which was pretty big and tastey! Made fresh while we waited, checked out the few other food trucks (located across from Dominoes Pizza). We were pleased! We will go back and try something else. Have sweet potatoes fries with marshmallows, and other great choices. Glad they are now down the road! read more

After parking and stepping out of the car, I looked around at my options. My site fixed on The Patty Wagon, whose website touts "the freshest burger in town". The menu board features color pictures of their monstrous burgers, colorful tacos, toasty quesadillas and scrumptious desserts. Queue immediate mouth watering. Yeah, I began to drool. Yeah, I was going to indulge. The Patty Wagon, owned by Fred Varela, opened its windows for business almost exactly one year ago in 2011 in the heart of Down Town San Marcos. They are conveniently located at 310 N. Guadalupe St., within walking distance to Texas State University and to the square. Fred's Patty Wagon boasts a pretty diverse menu for a burger place. That isn't to say that they don't include the staples, such as the Old-Fashioned burger (5 oz patty with Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Onions, Mayo, and Mustard, $5.50), and a Bacon Cheese Burger (American Cheese, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Onions, Mayo, and Mustard, $6.50). But there are also some not-so-normal items, like the Bobcat burger (Cheddar Cheese, Fries, and Homemade Chili, $6.50). Fries? ON a burger? OH how very Pittsburgh of them! (I feel like they put fries on EVERYTHING in Pittsburgh, PA.) There are also turkey burgers, chicken sandwiches and a variety of vegetarian options. On the sweet side, they have some fair-favorites, like fried snickers and fried Oreos! I'm not daring enough to try deep fried candy and cookies, but if you are one of those brave souls, please let me know how they are! Anyway, as I stood in line debating what I wanted to order, a sign to the left of the ordering window caught my eye... "Create your own burger", eh? Don't mind if I do! Now things were going to get interesting. I walked over to that sign and looked at the charming pictures of other brave souls who, too, created their own burgers. They looked awesome! I couldn't wait to invent my own flavor combo that I could name and be photographed with! I could totally become a legend! Or not... but I just LOVED this idea! Approaching the window, I knew what I was going to get and man, I was PUMPED about it. I ordered my custom concoction from the owner himself. As a customer, I knew that he truly cared about his business and his consumers. He was full of enthusiasm and you could tell he loved what he was doing. And as for my concoction? Meet The Spicy Blue Bird: Grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mustard, jalapeños and blue cheese crumbles. Yep. I could barely wait to lay my eyes on this beauty and when I did... I knew I made the best decision I've made in a LONG time. Literally.... The best decision... After getting my picture taken with the beaut and officially naming it "The Spicy Blue Bird", I was able to take my first bite. I believe my exact words were, "Excuse me, but I'm having a moment...." I then closed my eyes and heard the hallelujah chorus singing on full blast in my head. No I'm not exaggerating. Not even a little bit. The creamy blue cheese complimented the juicy and extremely flavorful grilled chicken. The jalapeños added a warm heat was well paired with the crunchy and tart pickles, fresh and crisp lettuce. The tomatoes were sweet and the yellow mustard added the vinegar punch that rounded the whole bite out. I savored that sandwich for as long as I could. I can't wait to go back and visit The Paddy Wagon again. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It was the perfect celebration for finally surmounting the insurmountable! read more

Came here during hours they say they are open (1230pm on a Thursday). But not open. Even the locked truck said they should be open. Disappointing b/c drove out of the way to come here. read more

My roommate and I just got home after try Patty Wagon for the first time. We both got the ranch chicken sandwich and seasoned fries. Both were wonderful! I'd go back just for the kind service we got. I even made a comment that I was to short for the window and the guy told me that being short was okay. Loved it! We were given pumpkin shaped cookies that were cute and tasty. The guy forgot to give someone their cookie so when my roommate went up for her food he asked if she could give it to the person. How nice of him to make sure the other customer got their cookie! read more

"They say I have the best burgers in San Marcos, but I don't have a favorite. I recommend all of my dishes." Fred Varela, the chef behind the window at the Patty Wagon, takes pride in each and every item on his menu. From the black bean veggie burgers to the parmesan chicken crepes, everything is made from scratch. Patty Wagon is one of the eight food trucks at The Hitch, a colorful outdoor eatery just a block away from the square. Not only is it known for the burgers, but the unique flavors of homemade mayo (blue cheese, avocado, jalapeno, chipotle, chorizo) and an endless list of toppings. As tempting as a burger sounds, I've got my eye on the grilled fish tacos. At first glance, all I can see are toppings. There are strips of cold, crispy jicama and a generous portion of avocado. Then, a sweet-and-savory salsa made with mango, poblanos, onion and tomato. Lime wedges and salsa are served on the side. Finally, two lightly breaded fish filets start to peek their way out of each corn tortilla. The combination of what seems like a hundred different flavors and textures is surprisingly cohesive. The chili pepper mango sauce just adds a little kick to the flavor explosion. I am impressed. read more

My daughter and I stopped by here last night for a burger. She got the small cheeseburger and I got the medium, with avocado mayo (which the proprietor makes homemade). The burgers were well seasoned and fresh, and the avocado mayo is great as well. The spicy sweet potato fries had just the right ratio of sweet/salty/spicy. The owner is very friendly and obviously takes pride in the food he serves to his customers. He had quite a crowd waiting for burgers, considering it was a Wednesday night, and the food truck park (?) isn't exactly in the middle of town. It took a bit of time to get our food, but my daughter said it was well worth the wait, and I agree wholeheartedly. He also gave my daughter an ice pop that she thought was quite nice, being as hot as she was after playing in the area playground and doing the other activities. This food truck is parked next to another trailer type setup that serves cold beer (from the surrounding areas and Austin as well) and a few types of wine, so those of you that need a cold brew to go with your burger...have no fear, it can be done! read more

So we came to the food trucks one day wanting to try a specific truck but it was closed so we decided to go to Patty Wagon which was the BEST decision of the day! Ambiance and Service: The food trucks are so cute!! I love going to them! Their placed in a cute part of town! Perfect for a date or a family outing! The service at Patty Wagon was AMAZING. The lady who runs the truck truly cared about our opinions. She was very attentive and we had a very good experience there. Food: I had a cheeseburger with chipotle sauce and spicy seasoned fries! It was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time! The meat was perfectly cooked and if I wasn't trying to portion control I would have eaten the whole thing in that visit but I took half of it home! If you're in town for the weekend this is the truck that you need to visit! It's family owned and the food is cooked with LOVE! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

THe owner's a cool guy and his burgers are one of the best I had in San Marcos. Always give a mint with your meal as well. My favorite is the 1/2 pounder with swiss cheese, mushrooms, grilled onions and bacon. It may not be the healthiest, but why would you find a healthy item in a burger joint? I love his dessert crepes when I'm in a mood for a warm dessert and his fish tacos are killer, if not too spicy. Great after a swim in the cold San Marcos river. read more

The friendly owner was one of best part of this experience. Two burgers, one chicken sandwich and two fires for $24 seems overpriced to me. The bees in the eating area chased us away. My wife's ranch chicken sandwich was served without ranch. When she asked for some ranch was told some was put on it. We checked but there wasn't any on it. read more

My wife knew of this wonderful food truck and finally convinced me to make the drive from San Antonio to try it. Now we make that trip 2-3 times a month because the food here is that good. Avocado mayo? Yes, please. Fresh, toasted, and buttery buns? Yes, please. Hand-battered onion rings? Freshly made limeade? Holy crap, yes yes yes. Burgers don't get any better than this and that almost hour-long drive is worth every mile. I can't rave about Patty Wagon enough. read more

Fish tacos were some of the best I've had. Affordable & friendly service. I will definitely be back & would recommend.

Owner is so nice and friendly. Burgers are good and the desserts are always ridiculous!! read more

Patty Wagon - Yum yum yum!! Banana Crepes with orange marmalade sauce!! - Food Trucks Near Me - San Marcos, Texas

Extremely good burgers! This place offers a lot of toppings to add on your burgers! Their chipotle mayo is really good and they offer five different types of mayonnaise. Their onion rings are especially delicious! Very glad I tried this place out! read more

Ate at the Party Wagon yesterday and I will definitely be back! I had a small bacon cheese burger and it was great! The burger had the freshest ingredients and the owner and his daughter were awesome! read more

Finally stopped by and oh my goodness I was not disappointed. I will be a repeat customer. The jalapeño popper burger was amazing, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. read more

First visit today and it was wonderful! I had a 5 oz patty burger with bacon and avocado and onion rings and my spouse had the pulled pork chipotle coleslaw special with fries. We ended up sharing a few bites with each other because it was so delicious. The owner was fantastic, the best customer service, such a sweet guy. We decided to come back before we even got our food just to give him some business because that positive attitude is rare. The food was amazing!!! My burger was PERFECT and the mayo that the owner makes (along with 5 other varieties!!!) and picked out for my burger when I couldn't decide went very well with the rest of the burger. The avocado! So much of it! Freshly sliced and just right. Usually you get a skimpy slice or two but I had a solid 9 slices!!! 10/10! 5 stars! 100% satisfaction. Love it! read more

This is the most delicious burger! We drive the 45 minutes from San Antonio because there is just something about the jalepeno mayo, toasty buns, and juicy meat. Seriously. It's the best. And, the owner is super nice. read more

Plain and simple. Amazing burgers ! Got the combo with sweet potato fries. They were frickin awesome too. Best burger in years ! All items are made in house including a bunch of delicious mayos. read more

These burgers are amazing!! Best we've had in a long time! We had a couple of old fashioneds with different mayos (choices from avocado, jalepaño, blue cheese, chipotle...) and a jalepeño popper burger and they all were mouthwateringly hot, fresh, and delicious! There are several french fry options with different seasonings and sauces to choose from and the service was friendly, kind, and patient as we decided which delicious options to choose from. I'm already thinking about what to get next time as we will definitely be back for more! read more

Mushroom Swiss and jalapeño popper burgers were great. Messy like 5 guys (that's a good thing). Very filling; probably should get the Small next time. Supreme nacho fries were good but probably better if served in a bigger container. Very quick also. You won't be disappointed. read more

I visited this small trailer today and the owner was extremely friendly. I have passed through this food truck place a dozen times and now I'm finally able to try it. His trailer is very welcoming and the food was great! read more

Tofu salad sandwich was awesome! Very tasty, and good texture. Great seasoning on the fries. Acquaintance said the meat was also good.

This is my second time to order the black bean veggie burger. It's tastes really fresh and is super yummy. I got the avocado mayo, which is super good! I recommend this place if you are in the San Marcos food truck area! I've had their sweet potato fries too. Also, really good! The owner is super nice. I had great service. read more

I tried the Patty Wagon, a food trailer across from the Chamber of Commerce. I ordered the BIG burger ( to split with my hubby) It was absolutely delicious!! Thick juicy meat, tender bun, all the trimmings, freshly made, delicious fries...yumm!! The owner was very friendly, as was his helper, a pretty woman with flower in her hair. I took the burger home to share and it was mouthwatering delicious. This was last week but I wanted to make sure I shared this great place....give it a try! read more

Hands down, THE BEST SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. I got the Triple Decker Patty Wagon, which has stuffed jalapeños, a burger patty, pulled pork and chipotle coke slaw, all sandwiched between 3 buns. I ate half and was stuffed! The chef is seems genuine and humble. He makes everything from scratch and it shows! read more

Probably the best burgers I've ever had. Fred, the owner, is a class act guy and runs an awesome food truck. I always go for the burgers although they have different options if burgers aren't up your alley, but I'm here for to the burgers, the options you have for your burger appear to be endless 6 different types of mayo and 15+ different add-ons. I'd suggest the Patty Wagon to anyone who wants a good burger in the San Marcos area. read more

The Patty Wagon has wonderful fresh food! But that is not what draws me there. The owner and primary cook of the Patty Wagon is extremely passionate about his business and has wonderful customer service. He goes out of his way to make your food trailer experience pleasant. I find the experience rewarding because he seems to be happy whenever he receives a customer. My boyfriend and I were very upset when he left Mimi's Trailer Park and San Marcos. However, we drove by The Hitch and the Patty Wagon is back! We will be going there very soon! :) read more

Love this place! The fries and burgers are always perfection and the lemonade is always the perfect compliment for any of their meals.

Love the veggie burger and sweet potato fries! Friendly staff, too!

WOW, just had the best burger in my life at the patty wagon, big juicy so tasty and what great value. The owner, I think his name is Fred is such a nice guy and was happy to recommend things on the menu. What a find this place was. I highly recommend this spot. read more

I definitely disagree with the majority of the other yelpers on here, it is evident they haven't experienced good food. I've been going to The Hitch ever since it opened, tried everything the Patty Wagon menu. The food lacks flavor and creativity; the burgers are average, the chicken ranch sandwich is reminiscent of one from a fast food chain, the fish tacos were dry, the toppings and sides are standard, the crepes were creative but they discontinued making them. There are a lot better options at this foodtruck hub. read more
