They did the dental surgery and said they found more bad teeth and kept her on Anastasia too hurting her kidney, then to help even more they put her on meds that were too strong which did more damage to her kidney. she never got bette, not eating or drinkin, diarrhe. they killed her. We have been going here for many years and were always happy and treated well until this past week when I took my 17 year old 4 lb. Pom that is on her last year or so of life in for her checkup and blood work for her heart medication refill that they have been prescribing to us for many years. Dr. Gretchen did not care that this was probably going to be our last refill of medication and refused to perform her routine bloodwork that she herself has completed many times over the years. She just came in and started in with us needing a rabies vaccine before she can do her checkup or blood work. Stating that this was a new policy they implemented conveniently the same week we made an appointment, then changed her tune and said the State of Michigan requires all vets to vaccinate on the spot before they can treat or see your pet for anything, then later said if they are going to do anything to a dog that may cause them pain, or agitate them in anyway that they require this. Which is it? This was never told to me when I set up an appointment and there was nothing posted inside the office. No one sent anything in the mail, or posted anything in the app about policy change. I have been coming here for many years and this should have been brought to my attention so I could make a sound decision on whether I wanted to come to this vet any longer. My dog has had a reaction to this vaccine when she was young and has allergies to medications. I told her this. We also have had 1 Pom in her family die from this vaccine and another from a sedative given. So, any doctor or vet knows that you are supposed to assess your patients health before even going over any procedures or vaccinations that could potentially put strain on their health or stress their immune system, heart or body in any way. A person or animal needs to be in good health before doing most procedures and all vaccinations. Did you look at my poor little baby to assess if she was even able to do this?? NO. Did you care that she was allergic to it? NO. What did you tell me when I told you this? We can give her Benadryl since you think she will have a reaction and monitor her. LOL. All she was worried about was raking in the money she would make off this vaccine. Most people know this is where the vets make their profit. She didn't even look over my poor baby to see how she was doing, if she was medically okay to do anything. Just dove right in to the vaccine and did not give a crap about my dog. She comes in wearing an N95 mask and sits back from my dog barely petted her head like she was now scared of dogs or any possibility that we were contaminated with an infectious disease. LOL. You have been treating her for many years along with 2 of our other dogs and NEVER has this been told to us. We were never refused routine bloodwork or her basic checkup for her heart med refill. You cared less that we were low on pills. You used this vaccine as a way to assert power and control. She knew I was here for a refill on meds to keep my baby comfortable and happy until her last days and thought I would cave in to the vaccine in fear that I would not receive her heart meds. Sorry, you didn't get your money for that one. Not going to happen. I would rather ween my baby off this med slowly and let her pass in peace then kill her with a vaccine and put her through stress and pain and have her die within 12 hours. Just to educate everyone, google this...It takes up to 28 days for that stupid vaccine to even be effective at anything and that is only if your dog is in good health and able to handle it. The vets know this or at least they should. If she is so scared of a little 4 lb. dog with no teeth that was sleeping on my chest the whole time we were there, then she needs to get a new job. Giving her the rabies vaccine would not have protected you in anyway shape or form until the 28 days have passed and only if her body was strong enough, which it isn't, to develop the immunities to it. I have referred alot of people to this place and am now ashamed for doing so. I just only hope people read this and they make sure not to ask for Dr. Gretchen. We are saddened that we have to find a new vet. Good luck to anyone that uses her! read more

If I could give them a negative review I would. My sweet dog had two large masses on left side of body. Was told over the years they were fatty tumor. In December was told based on palpitation they were soft tissue sarcoma and she would die in months. Surgery not promising is what they said. Fine needle aspirate December 11. Patterson sat on results for one week. Finally, December 18 the receptionist read me the report over the phone. Yes, I learned my dog definitely had cancer from the receptionist! Dr. Jason told me he had asked the office manager to let me know results. Yes, the person in charge of scheduling and ordering office supplies not a vet was originally instructed to tell me my dog had two 4" cancer tumors! MSU surgery consult said should have been removed when they first appeared and were small. Surgery at MSU was successful. MSU reached out to me several times throughout the process. Even followed up on Christmas evening! Only needed to keep my dog 1 night. She is full of energy and doing fantastic! She goes upstairs again with absolutely no issues! Since then have spoken with others who had horrible experiences. Evidently have a well known bad reputation among professional vets. One told me she had worked there a while back and thought they had finally got their act together. read more

I took my dog in today to get put to sleep. They took us into a room that was so cold my feet were freezin! The staff member even said it was cold, and said there's usually a heater and one was not provided The staff was great, very helpful but I did not like the doctor that euthanize my dog. She chuckled about the weight loss of my dog. I will never go back there ever again with that said I went with them for many years but since Patterson left this clinic it has changed dramatically. Shame on you guys seems like they care more about the money than they do about your pet. I love my Daisey girl like my own child and I feel very bad that I took her there. Our appointment was at 12, we arrived at 11:40 they nobody else was here, they asked us to leave and come back at 12. So we did. When we came back the parking lot was completely packed, we called again and they said they would call us back for "client history" it's been nearly 40 minutes since that phone call. They haven't even called for "client history" idk about everybody else but I have a job to return to after this vet appointment. I recently rescued an abandoned kitten from my yard and was looking for an inexpensive place to have her seen. I had to take her back two days after the initial visit because the vet missed the mites in her ears but I wasn't charged for another visit just for the medicine they used to treat the ear mites. I've formulated a list of guidelines to follow for a successful visit to Patterson 1. Call in advance for the hours of the day. They are weird and don't take appointments. 2. Arrive 30 min before they open, it will save you at least an hour wait in the long run. 3. Try and have an idea of what might be wrong with your pet and ask alot of questions. They are in a hurry and can miss things, like ear mites. 4. If you are just going in for shots ask for the Vet Tech. They do not charge you for an office visit if you can be seen by a Vet Tech. 5. If you are returning because of an issue with your pet they missed during a recent visit, let the person doing the intake know. Sometime they will put you in the recheck line and you will not be charge to see the vet. The staff and vet are very friendly and the people in the giant waiting room always chatty. Be prepared for a wide variety of animals in the waiting room. Patterson's is very affordable and quirky but worth the trip to Mason. read more

We had to say good bye to our beloved Yorkie this week. Patterson's not only had a special room for us to spend our last moments with her, but they also had the cooperation of cremation services which they sent out for us. We received her cremains back in a beautiful wooden keepsake box along with a card which included a paw print as well as a lock of her hair. It was gift wrapped and given to us with condolences. These people are thieves. They charged me an entirely unnecessary $44 for a "well dog check" that they insisted was legally required because my dog was getting a rabies vaccine. But my dog DID NOT get rabies because it wasn't needed and I had the certification from another vet to prove it. They ended up charging me $35 for Lepto and DAPP plus $17 for a nail trim. I was aware of those charges. But even though I objected strenuously to the unnecessary $44, they still charged me. Do not use these people. They also were totally inept in curing my dogs ear infection last year. Thank god for Dr Lisa over at Riverfront, she taught me how to cure my dogs ears. I wish Riverfront was still in business. Patterson Vet Clinic, that will be the costliest $44 you ever bill. Shame on you. I am on a fixed income and you never made me aware ahead of time of the bogus $44. By the way, the person who went ahead and billed me was Murphy. Shame, shame, shame. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I took my cat that I had since I was 3 to be put down because he was sick (September 1,2018). I requested the ink paw print, nose print, and a locket of hair. I called a week and a half ago (September 19,2018) asking if they had mailed it out yet. The lady on the phone told me they had it in the office, and would be sent out the next day (September 20,2018). I called again today (September 28,2018) and they said they they sent it out September 4,2018. Well if they sent it out September 4th, then why, when a week and a half ago, I called they said they still had it in the office..? As of right now, they have no idea where it is at. This clinic is everything we hoped for with a vet. With three very old dogs, we have seen every DVM there in just 2 years. They have all been caring and practical with no pressure for expensive tests and yet they will do everything and anything you could want. And we especially love Jason and Kat because they were there to help us give the most peaceful and beautiful end to our old girl who had cancer. I will be forever grateful to this animal hospital. I will NEVER bring another pet to this clinic. Major misdiagnosis. They took 10 minutes with her and told me she had a scratch on her throat. They charged me. 6 hours later they said she had a collapsed lung and we needed to take her to MSU, but wouldn't release her without payment (they couldn't send a bill???? SHE COULDNT BREATHE). They charged me again. By the time we got to MSU, my dog was in major respiratory failure and it was too late. Patterson's lack of caring and empathy is astounding. read more

I wanted to share a person story about how Patterson changed my dogs life, before i give a full review. I moved in with my fiance and he had a dog that was 3 years old and never moved. I had to force her to go out side once a day to use the bathroom. She was so fat. She hardly ate (less then 1 cup a day, and she wouldn't walk more then 1 house length. She's a lab and looked like a pot belly big! Her hair was thin and brittle, and no hair on the stomach and her tail was bald. Every vet kept telling us she was fine and that I should feed her green beans. (fine?? the dog is 55lbs overweight!! hello, That's a small child!!). Needless to say, I took her to this vet. The first thing the vet said when she seen the dog visibly (I didn't even say anything) was "oh boy, looks like we had a thyroid problem" I almost cried. She did the blood work and my dogs thyroid was so low it didn't even register! 1 pill a day. That's it! One pill a day! my 3 year old dog lost 15lbs in 3 months! She walks a mile a day and begs for more! She runs and jumps and plays! I've never seen this side of her! Their vets are amazing! By all means if you notice something "odd" about your animal tell the Vet; however, most times - they know! If you have more then one pet this is the perfect vet. I have 2 large dogs and 2 cats. I wouldn't dare go anywhere else. (or I'd be broke) I drive 30 minutes to here but I DO NOT go broke, isn't that every animal lovers fear when their fur baby is sick?? I've noticed a couple reviews that said Patterson Veterinary Hospital is Chaotic, the wait time is forever, and there hours are weird. I think we can all agree time is money. If you don't have the time, you're going to pay the money. If you have the time...you can save some money. There are some nice little tricks to avoid this. 1.) Arrive early!! If they open at 10am I'm there at 9am!! If you come at opening I promise you - you will already have 30 people in front of you! 2.) If your getting shots - say that! They are really awesome a Vet Tech can do that and you do not get charged an office visit! Call ahead make sure they have several Vet Techs available and you will be in and out in no time. 3.) If you have skiddish animals beware! Customers have no shame (and sometimes no manors). They technically have a kitty corner; however, I see people with dogs over there every time. If you have a cat that is never been around dogs this vet may not be worth it. It's loud dogs are everywhere and you may cause more stress to your furbaby then it is worth. 4.) If you're filling a script for your pet - call way ahead! Sometimes it takes an entire day to fill them. Yes, their hours are weird. But due to walk ins only they have to break them up to "catch up" so they have to take some breaks in the day. And the reason they can keep their prices low is not rocket science. Most vets do appointments I'm sure you can all relate (especially if you have cats or more then 1 animal) you can't always get to your appointment on time. I once took all 4 of my animals to the vet. It took me an hour to get them all in the car!! In point, because they can see people with no "down time", late appt, or cancellations they are utilizing their time wisely and can charge less. Again, Time is money! You have to decided what is more important to you, your time or your money. read more

They are also WAY more reasonably priced than any other vet I have been to, so I don't feel like I have to choose between taking care of my pets and paying my bills. We left this practice 5 years ago. The place is CHAOS. I've never had a visit with less than a 2 hour wait, even for routine vaccinations. They don't take appointments, so it's like waiting in purgatory. When we took our sick 8 week old puppy in, they just tested it for Parvo (it was positive) and asked whether we wanted them to just put it down!??!! It seems very much like an assembly line. We have been going to Patterson for over 30yrs. We have been in a couple times since he has retired. Today I go in and they tell me it's by appointment only now. You would think they would send out some kind of notice letting their customers know this. I was told we could be seen, but as an emergency visit and it would cost me $70 just for the office visit and less if I would have made an appointment. I would have done that if I had none. The girl at the counter was very smug, as she felt good about telling me this. They also raised their prices considerably. Will never return. Time to find a new vet. read more

Love this place. Great people. Love Dr. Julie and Amber. We are always greeted when we walk in. All of the Dr's n techs r great. Call us back if we have concerns. Made me feel very loved, relaxed, and cared for with their compassion and empathy when I had to put my cat down of 13 yrs. Amber even walked me out to my vehicle, after giving me several hugs. They even sent a sympathy card that everyone signed and made a special paw print and had it laminate it and sent it to me. They go above and beyond every time we bring our pet there. Give us our options on tests but do not put any pressure on us to do them. Check out is fast and easy as well. I was using Patterson's for my regular vet for years. With the new management I'll NEVER go back. I feel their misdiagnosis killed one dog & made the other sicker. For 4 years I kept talking about lumps & bumps on my dog & concerns of cancer. I took him his last time late Dec 2013. They claimed breathing issues & gave him meds. Less than 2 days later with no improvement I took him to MSU emergency. He DID have cancer so bad & was in pain, I had to put him down. My other vet I've been going to since then was closed this week so when my other dog got ill I took him to Pattersons as a last resort. They stated he had a stone (or something similar) that they seen in a x ray in his stomach,(which I asked a copy of the xray on CD) they gave me meds. They did say if he began vomiting to take to emergency, but to feed him chicken & rice. Which I fed him the chicken/rice for one day the next moening not only was he vomiting but shooting blood 8-12" anally. Took him to MSU the dog has colitus, and pancrentitus, which also gave him low white blood count. My dog almost died AGAIN thanks to Pattersons misdiagnosis. I called Pattersons back to get another xray copy because the one they gave me had no data on the disk, and copy of the bloodwork (so MSU had something to compare to) they said they'd call me back AND NEVER DID!!! This cost me more xrays, and MSU can't determine how quickly his white blood cells deminished. This vet is only good for your regular shot regimine, but DO NOT TRUST them if you think your fur babies are really ILL!!! You'll end up in worse shape financially and so will your pet (possibly die!) Dr Gill was the Dr for both these instance. The original Dr Patterson was fantastic, the new group are just assembly line and not that great at taking care of your babies! read more

The prices used to be reasonable, and the vets personable, but that has all changed. So, after 15 years of taking my beloved fur-babies there, I will be changing to a different vet. I would honestly give them zero stars if I could. Up until the point of my dog having surgery I was impressed. They seemed eager to help our dog and family. The vet who checked him out was amazing and I did love her! But once I got changed to the vet doing the surgery it all went down hill fast. Surgery seemed to be a success at first, but then when it did fail I was completely wrote off. The vet almost made joking remarks about my dog that offended me. Every time I expressed my concern for my dog and that the surgery didn't work it made me feel like I was an idiot. After six months of dealing with this we finally decided to try a new vet. He INSTANTLY knew what was wrong and what had happened to give my dog such health complications. Instead of making slights at my dog for being sensitive, he noticed that his knees pop in and out easily. NOTHING was once said about that ever at Patterson, but just comments about him being jumpy when the vet touch him. Ever since my dogs surgery he is terrified of his legs being groomed because they had to shave his leg for an IV and it breaks my heart. I had friends warn me that her friend had a similar situation. Everything was great up until surgery, but then everything crumbled and fell apart and their pet too was left in worse shape than before the surgery. read more

I had my dog fixed went to pick him up and he was laying in his own urine they said they were afraid to take him out but he had a cone that had 4 inches out from his mouth his harness hooks at the back so there was no reason to not take him out had to take him home and wash him as best I could so I didn't get stiches wet. He could have gotten an infection from their care and they could have called me to pick him up early instead of making him suffer that way!!!!!!!! read more

reading all these great reviews I hate to say this is the last place I will ever take my pets to. My pet was sick last spring( made the mistake of going there on a saturday at 10 a.m. and was there for 5 hours!!) and was diagnosed with an upper respitory thing, was given antibiotics, i.v. fluids, an $85.00 charge and set on my way. He did rally but all summer he seemed tired and just not himself. Fall came along and he had the same symptoms. The dr who saw him hurried me through, said he had the same thing again. Gave him antibiotics( another $85) and told me to let him know in 3 days how he was doing. My pet was getting worse, I mean real bad, called patterson back in 2 days, they told me to bring him in the next day. I did not want to wait so I took him to MSU vet clinic. He had so many things wrong with him that they could not save him and he was sick for some time. They were able to diagnose him in 10 minutes what Patterson failed to do twice. MSU clinic cost me over $200 but I should have gone there first. read more
