One of the best things I've ever done for myself. I did ~8 months of in-person coaching sessions with Patrick to improve my accent and pronunciation. I encourage you to take weekly lessons for the first month because you really want to internalize all the great tips he will teach you. Personally, I took weekly lessons for the first month or so then transitioned to every 2 weeks. For the final 3-4 months, I was meeting him once a month. I've been living in the US for ~20 years or so. I came to the US during high school, finished college, and graduate school here in the US. I've always been told that my level of English was close to the native level, but once in a while, people remarked that I sounded British, though I had no prior experience living in the UK. Thanks to Patrick, I no longer get these remarks. His method is simple but extremely effective. For me, it was an iterative process. During your first session, you go through a speech assessment to determine which words you have trouble pronouncing. Then, he'll teach you how to correct your patterns, and then you go through extensive drills to solidify/internalize what you've just been taught. For me, it took 1-2 weeks to fix each issue that he identified (pretty short, right?). You just keep going through this process until your issues are all gone. He'll also teach you speech techniques, e.g., breathing, intonation, how to read aloud effectively, etc. Just as a data point, I'm Asian -- I would highly recommend it for individuals whose native language is phonetic, like Japanese. He helped me speak with a fuller voice and pay more attention to pitch, intonation, articulation, and the emotion behind whatever I was communicating. In every session together, he gives so much helpful feedback on things I would've never noticed about my speech. In addition to constructive feedback, he pointed out so many qualities in my voice to LIKE that I'd never appreciated before. Every lesson was really well-structured and felt tailored to my needs and interests, with lots of great texts, tongue twisters, and spontaneous conversations to practice impromptu speech. Even though the sessions are supposed to be 50 minutes long, we almost always go to an hour, and he is always 100% present for every minute of it. After I was feeling quite comfortable with my voice, we started exploring different accents. Speaking in other accents is something I never imagined being able to do, but Patrick made it really approachable, and his knowledge of accents is so impressive. And to top it off, he makes it all SO MUCH FUN! I have to say Patrick Munoz helped me a lot in the past three years. As an international student in California, I always want to practice my pronunciation to improve my oral English. Therefore, I started to look for a great teacher in LA. I am so glad that I met Patrick, who is a professional, passionate, and intelligent teacher. For the first year, I practiced with different vowel sounds, the diphthong sounds, and consonant sounds, which helped me to understand how to pronounce English words clearly. For the second year, I had the communicate class at the university. There were 30 students in the class, and I have to do the speech in front of everyone, and I even forgot the second part I need to say. Oh, Patrick. I love him. I found him through my acting studio. (he was my acting teacher at Scott Sedita Acting Studio.). I loved how he taught and his energy in the class. Anyway long story short. I'm a Japanese actress who has a Japanese accent, want to reduce it. So why not try his class. I'm honest with you. I've been a couple of speech coaches with before. I think most of them are great as well except one. (I won't mention her name , but she smoked and ate her lunch during our session.) Okay why I chose him? because he isn't only the teacher knows how to teach an american accent, but he also gives you confidence to speak. Specially, we, japanese are so afraid to mistake in front of people, right? Trust me. He gives you something to make you feel conformable/confidence to speak English with an american accent. I don't know what it is. He is gifted. I have more to learn about it and getting a new accent is the process , but here and there when I talk with strangers said "are you bone here?" or " I hear your accent, but so slight." Like I said he doesn't only taught me an american accent, but he gave me confidence to speak and I can really see my progress. One more thing, I love about him is he doesn't chat forever with you during our session. One hour session means we practice for one hour. I am a voice actor and audiobook narrator. For years I've had issues with an overly-sibilant "s" sound, and after multiple notes from audiobook engineers it was clearly time to do something about it! I have vocal nodes which is a nightmare for an actor. And, my day job only exacerbated the situation (I teach an exercise class). So, after missing weeks of work, I decided to look into speech therapy. I was told by a Kaiser speech therapist that I should work on my breathing and get a humidifier and then he sent me on my merry way. Only it wasn't merry. At all. My problems persisted and I had to miss even more work. But then, finally, I went to Patrick and almost immediately noticed the difference in my voice. Over the four weeks I went to Patrick, I was given hours and hours of exercises, including several different warm-ups (and even quick ones to do while I'm short on time and preparing for an audition/class). And what's really crazy is that I went to him back in February and I'm still doing great. He helped me create long-term improvements in my voice and speech after only a month. I will take some credit however because a) that's how I roll and also b) I STILL do my warm-ups every day. And if I miss a day, I regret it.
