I love the business check-in, where she makes sure each student is on-track with their own personal career goals, no matter what stage we're at. I find it incredibly helpful to have some kind of homework each week to keep myself on task -- these can include both scene study as well as business steps - either things she noticed about my reel or actors access profile that could be updated, or footage I need to prioritize getting, or where to look for specific types of jobs. She is 100% not a gatekeeper of information, and truly wants and helps her students succeed. She talks openly about her own experiences and what we can all learn from them. Her class also incorporates warm-up exercises: either breathing, or quick improv/movement to get us engaged with our whole bodies. Cold read classes and prepared scene work are usually done in pairs, where we get about 20 minutes to work together before performing in front of the class. On-camera scene choices are sent out a few days ahead so we can choose and prepare one fully memorized and dressed for the part. Taking RaeAnne's class has been so informative and fun, and I am so happy I found it!

This acting thing is tough (and rough)... Especially if you're new to the industry and starting out as a newbie. So much to figure out - classes, getting representation - the who and the hows, how to market yourself - the what and the where... and then what happens when you get an audition, or callback?! I've learned so much from Brian and the team at BCAS. Brian has had a long and successful acting career. He's figured it out and is passing on his wisdom. Lucky us - the BCAS team lays it all out there. I remember visiting (auditing) different acting schools as I tried to find THE ONE. BCAS was the third studio I visited. Being someone who has major social anxiety, it took a lot for me to put myself out there - but when I walked in, I immediately felt as if I found my acting home, my "family". Brian, John, and Jill knew each student by name. They even knew who I was when I walked in on Day 1. I was impressed. Observing the format of the class, how Brian led and shared raw notes throughout the session, his humor and/but also seriousness with his art, how the group was focused, supportive and positive, and the professional equipment and recording set up, I signed up for my first cycle that evening. I was done auditing any other class/schools. I'm still at the beginning stage of my career in acting, but I know with the Brian's guidance, the different courses/services that the studio offers (accelerated program, assistance on eligibility to become Sag-E, etc.,) my career will move forward. No doubt. As a note: BCAS won't do the work for you. They'll be there as a tool and resource for you to succeed. But YOU have to put in the work. So there's that. Get to work. As I tell my kids, "If I'm not having a blast, I'm not doing it." Good Luck friends!

I spent the last two years auditing classes and paying a lot of money at various scene study classes throughout Los Angeles. I felt empty after every class. Most were teaching me how to be an "actor" but I was already a working actor and didn't "click" with the vibe. My manager would say - "If you're not on set, you need to be in a class." I didn't buy into that because I couldn't see how the classes I had audited would help me. Most of them pulled theater material and dove into it for weeks at a time as if I were doing a play. One of my friends and an SKS student recommended I try SKS. She said it was a "different way" plus she had just booked two nice TV roles so... I tried it. This was going to be my last ditch at a class. I was at a low point in my career and questioning everything about my abilities. I hadn't booked anything in a while, I couldn't find a class to help me get better, I didn't see eye to eye with teachers or coaches I met. Gripping at straws I gave SKS a shot. The first person I met was Kristyn. She helped me set up my consultation and was there to gree me when I first arrived. Her vibrant personality and welcoming nature made me feel comfortable with the studio. I then had the pleasure of meeting one on one with Stan. I had a consultation with him and he explained that his goal was not to teach me to act. His goal was to help me book the job so that I would get an opportunity to act. Not having booked anything in a long time, my ears perked up. We worked a bit on a scene together and I felt like we spoke the same language. His metaphors made sense to me and the picture he was painting with his words was clear. Stan has a vision and is a master at bringing your best work to life. If there is a Phil Jackson of acting, Stan is it. He takes people who are good and makes them great! After the consultation I felt great about doing their "boot camp" which was a prerequisite for entering the studio as an ongoing student. It helps you learn their terminology and style. Before the boot camp started I received an audition from my manager. It was for the lead on a network pilot. I decided to hire an SKS coach to help with the audition. This is when I met Aleks. To say that Aleks is great is an understatement. He coached me up and put me in the right frame of mind to ace my audition. Regardless of booking the job, I felt great leaving the room. I've since coached with Aleks numerous times and the results are always beyond expectations. During boot camp I met Colleen. She is one of the teachers at SKS and brought some really good moments out of me when performing (moments I didn't even know I had). Every class you get to perform, every class you get to learn and every class you get to prepare for the opportunity to book the job. It's a winning formula. I was very "down" on the entertainment business before going to SKS. Today I have a new view and it's a breath of fresh air. Yesterday I started my ongoing class with Stan. The students are all supportive and I feel like I'm learning from them with every passing minute. I told my wife when I got home that I felt nervous going in, challenged throughout and AMAZING leaving my class last night. Stan Kirsch Studios changed my life by bringing light into my doubt and fear. I'm lucky to have found Kristyn, Stan, Aleks, Colleen and the rest of the SKS family. I am forever thankful to my friend Angela for referring me. I've been a working actor for 13 years and I wish I would've known about this place 13 years ago because I truly believe I would be a lot further in my career by now. Cheers SKS. Here's to a bright future.

I also took Improv classes at the Groundlings which were VERY expensive. When I took classes at the Groundlings, it was very apparent that they basically anyone in the lower classes were just a number. They fill the lower level classes just to keep the money flowing. I found Actors Improv Studio through my agent. No it's not in the fanciest building or the best neighborhood. But that's not what you go to class for, and he usually has some licorice or candy that you can snack on during class. That definitely sweetens the deal. :) I took classes here for about a month. Bill was EXTREMELY helpful and it was very apparent that he cared about each student individually. He takes the time to critique and praise you after each exercise. He even videos during each class, and after some exercises you can watch your work. The best part of his classes was his encouraging nature. All I can really remember from taking classes at the Groundlings is all the rules they give of what you are not supposed to do. Bill presented the rules of Improv, but not in a way that makes an improvisor feel stifled and held back. I left his class feeling much more confident thanks to him. The only reason that I haven't been able to go back is b/c I can't afford the extra expense at this time. But I would recommend him to anyone who really wants to know what it takes to become a great Improvisor. My pre teen had been asking for years to learn how to sew and I finally stumbled upon Miss Shannon's class when a few moms from a mom group I'm a part of recommended her classes. From the start, Miss Shannon has been nothing but welcoming. You need to email her to get class info as you aren't able to schedule classes online. I like that though because it's nice to actually talk with the owner and ask any questions you might have. My daughter has had Bella as her instructor for a few months now and my daughter just loves her. We do bring our own sewing machine because my daughter also uses hers at home and it's nice to really learn the machine you'll be working with. They do have sewing machines there for your kids to use though. The first class they teach you how to use the machine, how to thread it, how to make a bobbin, etc, and you will make a cute little pillow. The second class I believe the kids make a tote bag, the class after that project is completed you'll make a pair of pajama pants, and the class after that project is completed you'll make a heavy duty sewing bag, which was my daughters favorite project because she's able to fit her sewing machine and other materials in that bag to bring to class. You will need to bring your own fabric for the tote bags and pajama pants and any other projects you have moving forward. Right now my daughter has been enjoying making different shirts in class. We get the patterns off of Etsy and the projects are completed in class. I saw one student was making a cute little romper. My daughter looks forward to going to class every week and loves Miss Shannon and Bella. They create such a great working environment and aren't afraid to nix any negative energies, which I really appreciate. It's important for these kids to work in a positive environment where their creativity can flow. These two truly care about kids and teaching the art of sewing to the next generation. Right now it is $38 for a two hour class. Payment info is posted inside the shop, or you can ask Miss Shannon directly. Venmo is the preferred method. There is street parking and there is a lot behind the shop, but I've never parked there so I'm not sure if that's a lot for customers or not. These are also drop off classes as the shop inside is pretty small so it's really only big enough to seat the students. I will park my car out in front and read for a couple of hours instead of going home and coming back. I also really appreciate that they lock the doors during class, which is added security for everyone. If your child wants to learn how to sew or wants a safe space to work on their sewing projects, this is the right place for you to be.
