Very knowledgeable teacher, but not a good fit for me. I'm new to acting and have been a professional musician my whole life. After injuries from drumming made it hard to continue, I wanted to stay creative--so I turned to acting. Gordon Parks--one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, and also a director, painter, and musician--once said, when asked why he worked in so many forms: "I'm a creative person. The medium doesn't matter." That's how I feel too. Unfortunately, my experience at Stuart Rogers Studios felt no different than other acting schools I've tried--where ego dominates the room. As a teacher myself, I believe great teaching should be nurturing and empowering. That was not my experience here. I appreciate the knowledge shared, but this studio wasn't the right environment for me for this reason, "The best teachers empower, not diminish" This is just my personal experience and opinion. After many acting classes that were "resume builders" I interviewed with Stuart at Stuart Rogers Studios. He asked me what my goals were and ultimately, I wanted a solid process that I could trust, that works for me and that I would fall in love with acting again, after so many classes that left me feeling empty and drained inside. Also, before I moved to LA, I was in a film where I was recommended to check him out and was told that "Stuart can look at your acting and diagnose what is going on, on the spot". I found that to be exactly true. I can confidently say I have an acting process that works for me, for how my brain works. With my process, I have found joy and curiosity in my work. The desire to really dig deep and get to the bottom of what makes a character tick. I also love that my process is transferrable to my auditions where I have only a little amount of time to prep. I love that I take me into every character, not putting on a character. Even if this wasn't an acting class, it is a workshop in philosophy and the human condition. I started Stuart Roger Studios almost two years ago and it has completely changed my life. At the time I started, I was feeling lost as a person and as an artist. I knew I still loved to act deep down, but I was having a hard time conjuring it in my work. I had been to about five different acting classes, but I felt they were all the same. It was all about what the world wants you to be and how people look at you. I felt I was constantly put in a box and it was more about your instagram page than the art of acting itself. This is not Stuart's class. With his deep and extensive knowledge/experience of the art form, his emphasis is only on the art. He cares about the humanity in it and truly making great art. He helps you bring out your own instincts and intuitions to use for the whatever role you are playing, so you are constantly unique and stand out without trying to, but just by bringing yourself to the role. Within the two years I have worked with him, I have become a much better actor and have booked over four different projects using his process. He cares about each and everyone of his students and their own journeys to make them the best artist they can be. All the other actors in the class are great. They are kind and incredibly professional. Everyone is looking to bring out the best in each other and there is such a strong sense of love from the community. It's a real blessing to be surrounded by Stuart and other actors who share such a deep love for the art of acting. Where do I even begin. I've been in Los Angeles, off and on, for 7 years and I've trained at A LOT of different schools. Each one offered something different and to say that I didn't learn something valuable from them, wouldn't be truthful. I am thankful for the experiences I've had, good and bad. That being said, none of those places come close to the amazing community and artistic education I am obtaining at Stuart Rogers Studios. I've been there 2+ years and have studied with Michael Silver, who is one of my favorite human beings, is patient, kind and so talented and for the last year and a half, Yoda, er, I mean, Stuart Rogers himself. Stuart is a GODSEND! He has given me to tools to grow my work and is relentless about creating quality work, in an uplifting, powerful way that allows me to constantly discover new things about myself as an artist. Being there, has literally changed my life for the better, boosted my self esteem, built up my confidence and reminded me that it's all about how much I invest in my art. It has shifted my acting work 150 % and who I am as a human because his philosophies are so much more than your average LA acting class. I've created lifelong relationships with artists who are beyond talented and I am so grateful that I was referred to him! My experience at Stuart Rogers Studio has been nothing short of life changing. Before coming here, I was so frustrated with my work. I loved nothing more than acting, but the harder I pushed and the more classes I took, the more I seemed to fall into patterns or get "in my head." Stuart completely retooled the way I was operating! Where other teachers had focused on building "a map," Stuart focused on belief building, spinning on circumstance, and thinking from the perspective of the character. His method of "absorbing lines" rather than simple memorization made the words my own while preventing patterns from forming. Because of Stuart Rogers Studio, I now feel truly present in my work and able to react organically with emotional openness to my scene partner, circumstance, and environment. Performing is finally as fun as I always knew it could be! Now, I am doing more than just executing a scene...I am having an experience, living in front of an audience. Additionally, the studio's approach is all very real world oriented. Everything that is taught is something that you can implement yourself when preparing for auditions, on film and TV sets, and as part of professional productions. I've been studying at Stuart Rogers Studios for nearly half a decade now and can honestly say that Stuart is one of the most profound and genuine artist whom I have ever met. His care, attention, and passion for theatre and film are second to none, and he runs his classroom in such a way that those traits become contagious. Unfailingly, I leave his class excited to continue along my own path as an artist. Perhaps the most important part of his methods, at least for me, stems from the fact that he treats all art with the same mindset, making him an ideal teacher for writers, directors, and actors even in the same classroom setting. His penchant for understanding story goes hand in hand with his uncanny perception--he's the kind of guy who can see through BS and isn't afraid to give it to you straight. I've found that the best acting teachers are the ones who are willing to tell you the truth, to put art over feelings, and are open to changing their minds. To that end, his method is not confined to any one school of thought, but pulls from many of the greats and is colored by his own personality and experiences. He then keeps his curriculum open to adaptation in the hopes that he will always find a better way to reteach actors and writers how to be human. It's his lack of an "I'm right, you're wrong" attitude that keeps me coming back. Instead we debate, converse, and fight for truth, not victory (though usually, I'm wrong). I entered his class full of ideas about what acting should be and have found in his teachings that the best actors always have more to learn. He will shatter your preconceptions, and you will emerge better and stronger for it. I've seen new students literally transform from mindless automatons with no soul and a bag of actor tricks (I was this guy) into some of the most incredible actors I've ever seen. I've been studying at Stuart's for almost four years now and it's been a wonderful experience in so many ways. I really can't say enough good things about it and have recommended the studio to quite a few people who have all really benefit from the classes as well. I received a BFA from Acting at Rutgers, and have had 10 or more other acting teachers in the past 20 years. Stuart is on a level all of his own. His personalized attention to every student, his passion for being an artist and encouraging others to follow their ambitions in art, and his sheer enjoyment of doing what he loves, and doing it WELL, make him different from any other instructor I've ever met. The big difference here, especially in comparison to other acting schools in LA, is that you don't just receive direction when it comes to your scene work. You're given practical tools, long-term skills, and hours of experience that are invaluable. You're made to be "director-proof" so that you could work with a director of any talent and still produce your best work. Another reason why I stay is that my lessons are never finished. There is always more and I am always being challenged to keep going, reach new levels, and get to places in my work I never imagined I could go. The tools are practical and they're laid out clearly. In addition to the amazing teaching, this studio has become one of the most inspiring and creative artistic communities I have ever been a part of. When I was looking for a place to study, just after graduating college, Stuart Rogers Studios was suggested to me by a trusted friend I had started acting with in high school. I am forever and ever indebted to that friend for bringing SRS into my life. I could have never imagined how much the studio, teachers, and the community within, would impact my life as a whole. I'll try to keep it succinct... What is taught here is habit-breaking and challenging, in the most honest and truest of ways. I spent my first 5 years at the studio with Michael Silver. Michael's heart and attention to your journey is difficult to accurately describe. The trust I had with Mike, allowed me to continue to fall throughout my journey, and have the confidence to keep getting back up. I have spent the last year in Stuarts class. The trust I have in Stuart is not unlike the trust I have in Mike. I am constantly challenged, as he closely watches the journey I am on and how I continue to evolve, so that he can push me even farther to dare to explore even more, as I progress (or stumble) from one incarnation of a scene, to the next. If you're looking for an amazing acting studio that will help you book more jobs, look no further. A lot of teachers out here will try to sell you on crazy techniques or bs or use your personal life to "get you to an emotional place"...this is nothing like that. I've studied with Stuart for years, and he and the other teachers are supportive but also crack the whip and call you out if you're trying to coast. Honestly the best scene study class I could ask for. Plus once you're in class, you can audit all of the other classes, which is rad. 12/10 stars recommend. read more

I met Stuart Rogers over 8 years ago when I attended his annual NYC workshop. I have been a devoted supporter of his approach ever since. At the time I had reached the point of complete despondence with the teachers/coaches that I had worked with up to that point. Taking his workshop struck a cord in me that immediately changed my acting experience and brought me to new depths of involvement and connection. I realized I would be a fool to let it pass through my fingers. Finding an acting teacher/school in Los Angeles can be treacherous. I've been studying at Stuart Rogers Studios for two years. This place is the definition of an 'Artists Home'. Stuart, as well as his staff teachers he's chosen and rigorously trained himself are all there simply to serve the growth of the students. It is a place to deepen your art as well as a place to develop your career - through connections and collaborations with other classmates. There are too many acting schools in LA to choose from and sadly too many that simply do not serve the actor in any practical, thoughtful or useful way. Stuart Rogers Studios is the rare exception. There are so many successful, working actors studying at the school. And these actors continue to study with Stuart because his school is the place in LA where you go to continue developing and growing as an artist. I have been studying at Stuart Rogers Studios for about two years now and have nothing but good things to say about it. I feel so lucky to have found this place, as it has improved me enormously as both an actor and person. This is much more than just another LA acting studio out for your money. The instructors are all incredible. Not only to they have such knowledge and skill about this art, but they are passionate about teaching and transforming their students into great actors. Michael Silver is brilliant and such a wonderful human being to have as a coach and mentor. You will find that this studio has a huge emphasis on truth and honesty in the work. It's simple... what they are teaching here works. It's much different from what you will find elsewhere. Stuart has created a school which teaches a process that can be applied to any and every scene, rather than a one-time quick fix. At the very least, you will leave the class feeling inspired and full of creativity. I've found also that from being at this studio, I have grown as a person. Since taking class I've becomes more present throughout life, grateful, open, aware of my emotions, and a better listener. I studied with Stuart for ten years, until I moved to New York, and he is by far the best acting teacher I ever had. I studied with all of the trendy gurus like Howard Fine, Larry Moss, BHP, etc...None of them came even close to touching on what is really at the heart of acting the way Stuart did. His classes are scene study, but also cold reading, audition technique, general acting business administration, and more. They primarily entail critiques for scene work and engaging discussion in which students are encouraged to discuss, ask questions, and even challenge things that they do not understand in order that they may better own their craft. It's not a lecture, it's a dialogue. Stuart is by no means a guru. His classes consist of supportive, bright, inquisitive, real actors. In addition, the classes are part of the award winning Theatre Tribe company. The space is perfect for shows and class. Stuart is a super generous, nurturing, intelligent teacher who knows acting and understands the human condition better than anyone I have met. read more

I've been a working actor in LA for 15 years and I started this class a few years ago because I was feeling stuck and uninspired. Stuart is a gifted teacher and director who has truly found his calling. He focuses heavily on story and helps the actor to make her/his own discoveries which leads to a much more profound and deeper understanding of the work as opposed to someone telling you "how to play" the scene. A great side effect I've found of Stuart's approach is that it builds confidence b/c everything that's taught and discussed in class can be taken into the real world- prep, auditions, on set, etc.- to make my work more interesting, more nuanced and more alive. I am so unbelievably grateful that I have Stuart Rogers & Stuart Rogers' Studios. While I was in class last night, it struck me that I am coming up on my 13th year studying with Stuart! I do things in this class that scare the crap out of me & I feel like there is no limit to what I can learn and how I can grow as an artist and as a person. Stuart isn't set in his ways, over the years there has been an evolution & deepening of his technique & approach, he seems to be unafraid to evolve with us. He is my Sanford Mesiner, my Lee Strassberg, my Stella Adler! In this class, I have the opportunity to grow past my comfort zone, so so so far past my comfort zone...I really never imagined that I could ever feel so free and alive on stage and go so deep...Stuart is a phenomenal teacher who has helped me grow through the years...grow into a confident artist who can work with anyone & will always keep digging for more. This Studio is alive; it is an empowering supportive community. I am surrounded by talented driven artists who consistently inspire me. I have heard people say that they think it is foolish to stay in the same class for a long time, that you get comfortable & there is a ceiling on how much you can learn & grow...well, I see no ceiling, I feel no boundaries...I am continuously pushing myself closer & closer to the edge...tempting failure...and it feels fantastic! I rarely speak out about things, because I think, "oh just because it's special to me, why would anyone else care", but I realize that I need to speak out. I need to shout it from the rooftops. You may choose another place to study & I respect that completely, but maybe if I share my passion, I can encourage others to test their limits and dig deep to express themselves! This life is short & if I am fortunate enough to have a place where I can continue to explore myself artistically, as well as support the other artists around me...then I am truly blessed!
