I started classes with Joshua Labar in October of 2024, and I've been studying with him ever since. Since working with Josh, I've grown immensely in my confidence, my ability to memorize material, and my understanding of scripts and what the writers want from a character. I've also had the opportunity to do private coaching with him for my auditions, which has helped me feel even more confident and comfortable in class. Studying with Joshua Labar has been one of the best things I've done for myself as an actor this year. The material we work on is high-quality and challenging, requiring discipline, but the environment is incredibly supportive and encouraging. You really feel comfortable and inspired every time you go to class. I'm enjoying my process in his class and would definitely recommend it to any actor who wants to pursue roles on hit film or TV series especially those aiming for series regular work read more

As someone new to theatrical acting, Josh's class has been invaluable in building my confidence and helping me perform long, emotionally rich scenes. He covers every aspect of being in front of the camera, offering detailed breakdowns, clear actions, and personalized notes. He gives you the tools and support to move your acting career forward. Josh is as invested in your success as you are, which is rare and essential in such a competitive industry; especially since he's been highly successful in it himself (check is IMDB). Many of his students are people you'll recognize from major TV shows today, with more on the way. The classmates you'll meet here are not only incredibly talented, but also friendly and very supportive. It's an amazing program, and I truly can't say enough great things about it. Full 5 stars-- Highly recommend! read more

I joined Josh's ongoing class a few months ago and, oh man, am I glad I did! I hadn't been in class for a while and was seeking a safe space to dust off the rust and build community. Josh offers industry insight, honest feedback, constructive and applicable notes and creates a space where people are comfortable sharing their wins and cheering each other on. I feel like I really have people in my corner! The format of the class keeps things fresh, interesting, relevant and, importantly, helps keep your brain/body in audition mode. The office is prompt to reply to messages/questions and Josh really goes above and beyond for his students - staying after class to chat/consult, answering emails on the weekend, combing through newly taken headshots (thanks!) and making time for last minute coaching sessions. It's just a really great, non-culty vibe all around! I am so glad I landed here - I feel more supported, challenged, engaged and motivated than ever. read more

I've been taking this class for over a year and a half, and I can honestly say that it has been life changing. When I first started, I was so nervous I would physically shake, but Josh has helped me find my confidence and voice as an actor. The environment Josh creates is safe, supportive, and inspiring. Every week is a challenge to push yourself and test your limits- working only top tier scripts. I'm so beyond grateful to have him as a teacher and mentor. read more

4 years of on-camera acting classes and some bookings later, I can definitively say that this class turned me into a professional working actor. When everyone around you is booking, putting in the work every week, visibly leveling up and making sh*t happen for themselves no matter the odds or the barriers, it fuels you!! This community has been vital to making LA feel like home and my dreams feel less far away. read more

If you want to see growth in your acting, you MUST come to Josh's studio. I came to the studio as a beginner 1.5 years ago and since then, Josh has really taken the time to give thorough input and also build upon my own choices as an actor. I've gone from memorizing and reading lines to telling a story as the character and giving a believable performance. We alternate genres weekly between comedy and drama. Each script coming from shows or movies, each challenging in their own way. I love how Josh doesn't generalize the feedback but instead gives each student dedicated time to give notes and advice. I look forward to class every week and I will continue to grow here! Please don't sleep on this studio! read more

I've been a student at Joshua LeBar studios since 2019, and it's truly one of the best acting classes I've been in. Unlike most acting teachers, Josh is actually a working actor. He brings more first hand experience and knowledge than other teachers I've dealt with. The studio runs on a monthly schedule that gives a really well rounded education. First week is a first audition and given notes. Second week we bring back the previous week's work like a producer's session and you're put on tape. Last 2 weeks are scene work. The other students are working hard and the community as a whole have been lovely to work with. Even during Covid when we had to move to online zoom classes it was as worth every Penny to keep sharp with skills and give me something to look forward to every week. Cannot recommend enough. read more

If you're looking for an acting studio to level up your craft then this is the place for you. I've been studying at Joshua LeBar Studios since October 2018. I was hesitant to join any acting studios after moving to LA because I'd heard how many of them were scams. I decided to check out Josh after getting a recommendation from a friend. I'm so thankful that I did. Check out Joshua LeBar Studios if you're committed to your acting career and want to truly challenge yourself. The material he chooses is difficult and always top notch. The community in class is amazing -- always supportive & nonjudgmental. I have nothing but positive things to say about this studio. I've grown so much as an actor during my time at Joshua LeBar Studios. Josh cares so much about each and every one of his students and that care has helped me through some difficult ruts. Pursuing acting in LA is a difficult game, but there's no one I'd rather have in my corner cheering me on than Josh. read more

My biggest issues were around feeling overwhelmed by getting off book for auditions with quick turns around and having the confidence to make choices prior to getting to rehearse with a scene partner. The structure of this class has immensely helped with both of those things. My audition anxiety is waaaaaay less. read more

UPDATE: 3 years later and I'm still here! I made amazing friends, learned SO much and I feel like I am a completely different actor than when I first started. I've been taking classes here for a year now and can't even begin to describe how much I've learned. Josh has a keen eye for auditioning, and his scene redirections are on point. He doesn't beat around the bush, will bust you down if you fuck around, and will always have your back. He's very no-nonsense when it comes to the work, and he gets results. I have classmates regularly auditioning for, and booking, big projects; that's the most important metric of an acting coach. read more

The best teachers and studio in LA. I've been here over a year and have seen significant progress every month. Josh is very professional, but makes class so much fun and engaging! We work on auditioning, self taping, and scene study every week with up-to-date scripts. He teaches you everything you need to prepare yourself for the industry, wether a beginner or experienced actor. I've seen both working actors and brand new actors improve an ASTOUNDING amount right in front of my eyes. Not to mention the weekly check ins we do... it brings the class closer and shows that everyone really cares and supports one another. I could go on forever... you can try a free consultation with Josh before trying class (you will want to try class trust me LOL). read more

This was my first, in person, acting class back since covid. I was a little nervous my first day but the environment that Joshua sets along with all the students made me feel very welcomed and relaxed. I have learned so much in the time I have been at Joshua Lebar Studios and he has a great eye for the small things in scenes which is very important to catch and know when you have an audition. What I love about Joshua is not only is he an acting coach but is also still a working actor and has years of experience in the business. When you have an important audition, Joshua will personally coach you which helps a lot. He wants you to succeed and does everything in his power to make sure you put your best foot forward for the audition. He is honest, gives constructive criticism, and brings out the best actor in everyone. I am very happy I found Joshua Lebar Studios and look forward to continue growing as an actor in this place. read more

Joshua LeBar Studios - Working on a scene in class - Drama Schools Near Me - North Hollywood, California

Enrolled in Josh's class last January after spending the holidays researching on Yelp and elsewhere. Josh was highly recommended across all platforms, and I can honestly say that I'm grateful that I chose this studio to be my acting school. Not only does Josh have a track record for producing high level, working actors that have gone on to do big things in the business, but his genuine and honest concern for the development of all of his students is legitimate and sincere - he legitimately wants to see his students succeed. He won't sugar coat things - he will tell you exactly what you need to be told to improve as an actor. Sometimes it'll seem harsh, but it's a harsh business and as long as you're humble, don't think you have all the answers, and are genuinely there to learn and grow, there's honestly no better place to do it and no better teacher. Highly recommend! read more
