Sunny was born in March 2023 with Trisomy 21 and congenital heart disease. She underwent open heart surgery at 13 days old and spent 72 days in the hospital. With that being said, once Sunny was home she was behind on a lot of her development. Melissa has worked with Sunny in our home for 6 months now and it is truly amazing how much our daughter has learned and how far she has come developmentally. Melissa is extremely patient, attentive, and knowledgeable. She comes into each session with so much positivity and encouragement! She loves to get down on the floor with Sunny and knows exactly when our daughter needs a little break. We are so thankful to have found Melissa, she is truly outstanding!

From our very first session, Melissa demonstrated a deep understanding of our son's needs and strengths, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Our son has made significant progress in gross motor skills and sensory processing thanks to Melissa's tailored approach and engaging strategies. She connected with our son on a personal level, and made each session enjoyable and fun. Our son was always SO excited for his visit with Melissa. Importantly, my husband and I learned from Melissa as well. She gave us tools to use with our son to better help him and she gave us a better understanding of our son and his abilities and challenges. We, in turn, became stronger as parents and were able to pass on relevant and helpful information to his other caregivers and our families. This collaboration has made a real difference in our daily lives. Melissa was also super communicative, easy to reach, and very responsive - which is always appreciated when you're juggling jobs and child care! We highly recommend Melissa to any parent seeking dedicated and skilled OT for their child. We are truly grateful for the positive impact she had on our family!

Our son started at LAIPT with some sensory concerns and gross motor and motor planning delays, but has transformed since starting therapy. He has much better regulation, attention span, and body strength, and his motor planning has improved tremendously - I no longer worry he's going to run into walls or fall off things. All of this improvement we owe to our wonderful team at LAIPT. Maxine is also wonderful and works with us to make sure everything fits into our kiddos busy therapy schedule. The space is wonderful as well - very clean, and each therapy room is spacious and filled with so much great equipment and toys. The PT space is a literal gym and our son loves going there because it's basically a playground for him.

They've made such a positive impact on both of my sons and our whole family. Miss Katie (our OT and the clinic manager) is not only caring and patient but also extremely knowledgeable and professional. One of my sons has high sensitivity to smells and used to vomit a lot. After working with Miss Katie for just half a year, his vomiting has improved significantly--the frequency is much lower because he's learned strategies to avoid situations that trigger him. Katie always goes above and beyond to support each of my boys' unique needs, whether it's fine motor skills or sensory exploration. She communicates clearly, provides us with helpful home strategies, and even brings snacks sometimes to make the boys feel comfortable. My kids have grown so much under her care, and they absolutely adore her. Miss Tawny (clinic supervisor) is also the best. She keeps everything running smoothly--always on top of paperwork, scheduling, and last-minute changes. She goes out of her way to accommodate us, which is such a relief since I'm juggling OT and speech for two kids. She makes the logistics stress-free so I can focus on the boys' progress. Together, Miss Katie and Miss Tawny make the clinic feel like family. My boys are always excited to go, which makes therapy not only effective but also fun. We feel incredibly lucky to have them for our OT journey!

We received a call within an hour of him being at the camp that he was stressed and overstimulated and didn't want to participate, so he was going to need extra support to stay. This was shocking to me considering how little time he had been there, that the point of it was to help kids adjust to kindergarten, and that their ratio was 2 adults to 7 kids. They told me that he consistently improved over the course of the first day and further improved on the second day, but that it would be too costly to keep another adult there to help him. It was sad for us because he left on a high note, telling me that he'd made a friend and that he had done a better job staying in the group. He clearly felt like a success and I wish he'd been given the opportunity to continue improving, but I didn't want him to stay at a camp where the facilitators believed that he was too much for them. He successfully did a year of TK last year and several other camps this summer, some with a ratio of 1 adult to 16 kids. CSC was polite to me and pro-rated me the other days, but it was upsetting because I assumed the most expensive camp I signed up for this summer (held at a therapy location) would be the greatest success, not the one camp that had to call me about an issue. This camp may work out for kids who are already very familiar with their gym environment and don't really need that much help when they feel anxious, but if you're looking for something that will help your child if they struggle in a new environment, this does not seem like the best choice. Some camps that worked well for us this summer were Pedalheads, Compass Clinic's Friendship Island Camp, Campbell Hall's Creative Arts Camp, and Destination Science.

I took my kid to Theraplay for feeding therapy, and in our initial consultation with Marci Silver, she explained that feeding issues often start with physical causes that become behavioral over time, and suggested we see an ENT to rule out any obstruction in his airway. As he's never had any breathing problems, I wasn't in a hurry to see another doctor, and we proceeded with feeding therapy, coming in once a week. After four months with minimal progress, we were asked to join a team meeting to discuss my son's case during his normally scheduled session. The office completely botched the scheduling here, and I ended up at the office with my five-year-old instead of on my couch without him. We were also charged for everyone's time, even though Marci had dropped the ball on an earlier follow-up, which was part of his regular care, and I assumed she was just rescheduling that meeting. We were refunded the money after I sent a pointed email, but a real indicator of the communication problems at Theraplay. At that meeting, Marci and co. said they weren't getting anywhere with therapy, and that we should pause until we made an appointment with the ENT. We said okay and proceeded down that path, which ended with my son getting a minor surgery to release a previously undiagnosed tongue tie. This was all well and good, but when I then went back to Theraplay to resume therapy, they told me they had no availability and referred me to another provider, who also had no availability. It is honestly astonishing that these people pushed me toward surgery for my six-year-old as part of his treatment plan, then abandoned him as a patient when we'd gone ahead and made the suggested alteration to his body. Just an incredible lack of organization and an abysmal level of care. I'm not a tough customer (you can see I've written over 5,000 reviews here, and only 28 are 1-stars), but I'd recommend Theraplay to exactly no one.
