We went a little over 10% over budget, which is just about what I expected for a project like this, and I was pleasantly surprised that we actually finished a few days early. The work comes with a 3-year warranty too (which we needed in the past and have had no trouble using), which gives extra peace of mind. Each person on the project - Elena the project manager, Juan the site supervisor, Alexa the designer, John the estimator, and especially the lead technician Cornelio was a pleasure to work with. As with any renovation, there are always surprises and hiccups along the way, but the team handled everything professionally, even when I was stressed and occasionally cranky. One thing of particular note was how much the team was willing to work with me when the inevitable surprises came up. There are things that nobody can foresee, which usually results in a change order and extra cost, but then there are those little things where everyone leaves a conversation with a different impression. In those latter instances, I always really appreciated how willing everyone was to meet me halfway and to make sure I felt good about how things were going and confident that we were doing right by each other. We now have the best patio in our DC neighborhood, our drainage problems are nonexistent and we are able to host gatherings very easily with tons of fun! I found them here on Yelp and I obtained 3 quotes for the job. I had the quotes reviewed by an independent contractor who told me L&R's quote was what the job should reasonably cost. I called 4 references who all had a similar and very positive experience. Lawrence always communicated with me about schedule which had not been the case with other contractors. They were there working on my job every day, not showing up once or twice a week like some others. Any fluctuation to schedule or budget was discussed and agreed upon by both parties. We had a couple of unexpected plumbing delays but that was due to the original build not being up to the current code. I changed direction on a couple of design decisions and Lawrence was right there with me. The work was exceptional and the end product is amazing. I have had the nightmare contractor experience so was very cautious. This was exactly as the process should be and I plan to have them back in the fall to do more work. GE Construction made my vision for my kitchen and dining renovation come to life! This was not an…read moreuncomplicated renovation. The wall between the kitchen and dining contained duct work for both the dining room and upstairs, plumbing was done to the code of 1960 when the house was built, and previous owners/flippers did things in slapdash ways that made the process harder than it needed to be. But at the end of the day, what I sketched out came to life, and beautifully! Andrii and his team worked with all the things I really wanted out of my kitchen (including using existing appliances, so they had to move them around the space a lot while working, and some fancy stuff that is non-standard including that crazy butterfly sink that you see in some of the afters!), worked to bring things current (like moving plumbing off exterior walls, so I no longer have to worry about pipes freezing), and got it done. A total transformation! The price was middling among quotes, and I felt it was a great value since I got quality work and didn't have to do much (like ordering stuff...Andrii always had someone who could get things at a normal/retail price without me doing it). Job completed around our "contingency" finish date, which was only one week more than the "we hope to finish by" date, which is really good for a project of this scope. I am very satisfied, and if I didn't drive them crazy, will be using them for my bathrooms in a few years!
