Our 4th pasty in our quest to compare and consume…read more Jean Kay's is a teeny tiny shop on a side street and can barely hold 6 people in front of the register. There are a few more options for pasties here, including chicken and broccoli, and dessert flavors. Their beef pasty is different than all the other pasties we tried, as they use flank steak. As is traditional, potatoes, onions, and rutabaga were the other ingredients. This was the first pasty I tried where I could see the onions, so I picked them out when I came across them (my kryptonite). The steak was a little chewy, and the seasoning was almost undetectable. Also, the pastry, although well baked, fell apart after a few bites. To be fair, though, we waited probably a good 30-45 minutes to eat it. This wasn't my favorite pasty, but I wouldn't mind returning to try a chicken and broccoli and a dessert one. Maybe on my next trip up north. 21/2025

I was impressed with the owner cranking out all kinds of bakery items, brownies, cookies, donuts, pasties, bread, etc..... Last stop I walked away with a loaf of bread too warm to run thru the slicer. The smell of it in the car was so heavenly I ended up ripping the end off to devour as it was going to be a while before I had access to a knife. Owner seems to be nearly a one man band. Much admiration to her dedication. I will be back for sure. Cute looking ice cream place next door is also on my list to try.

The waiter who took our order mentioned that he was one of the chefs but had to help out front because they got swamped. I eat gluten free and there wasn't much on the menu I could eat so I asked for a turkey burger without the bun and they asked if I wanted it between lettuce leaves. It was delicious with onion and tomato. I had a side of vegetables also. My husband had chicken wings which he said were good. They were the special for the day. He said he wasn't offered any sauces and they were just plain deep fried chicken wigs which were good, just nothing special. It was a busy place on a Su day afternoon. As I said before, everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We would stop back if in the area.

I get here rarely because I don't live here, but have a summer cottage in the area. Let me break down my dinner tonight for you below, and you can decide if you want to try it for yourself. Service - Spot on. Attentive, but not too attentive and very friendly. Appetizer - Truffle fries. Some people like truffle, some people hate truffle. Regardless of that, the fries were cooked to perfection! I cannot think of another french fry I've had that was better than these. Salad - Rarely do I eat all of my house salad, because honestly, they usually suck. This salad was fresh with a light lemon vinaigrette. I cleaned the plate. Bread - Great bread. I don't know if they make it in house, but the garlic butter that came with it was fantastic as well. Mains: Mine - Veal Schnitzel. The dish came with two large veal cutlets, broccolini, and a mountain of garlic mashed potatoes. I could only finish one of the cutlets. There was a dijonnaise drizzled across the plate which was a welcome acid to balance out the richness of the veal. broccolini is always good, and the potatoes were really good. My daughter(an adult) - Boneless braised short ribs in a red wine gravy. I have had this previously and it was great. I sampled some of her dinner and confirmed that it is still very tasty. It taste like someone had cooked the ribs with good seasoning for a long time. The sides were the same as mine, but when you have a couple solid sides, why bother with other randoms. Dessert - We shared a Strawberry creme brulee. I have no words to describe how good this is. Get it.
