Very tasty food, but several visits have shown like so many places have had insufficient staffing. The outside seating is handy as well. So, the service is a little thin. Had dinner with my wife and daughter. Meals were flatiron steak, walleye sandwich and Thai chicken. All were nicely prepared and tasted great. The soup was handmade and hearty. The dishes were very beautiful and they looked like they would be very flavorful, but they seemed to be missing something. From others that have experienced this restaurant after I have, they say it is improving so I would recommend you try it out for yourself! WOW! Driving through Brainerd to the lakes and just stumbled across this place for lunch on Memorial Day. We split a B.B.L.T and wish we had each gotten our own. Sitting outside on a beautiful day was nice atmosphere, but the inside looked really cute. Great presentation, great food, we would certainly go here again! read more

First of all, the food my friend and I got was very good. The hard part was getting it. We were taking a sightseeing tour by boat nearby, and figured that we had an hour to eat and get to the dock. We ordered and after forty minutes of waiting, we had to get our food to go, which took another five minutes, so we were pushing it. The other problem was that we sat outside due to Covid, but couldn't get out of the sun. There were a lot of large table umbrellas piled up on the ground but none worked, our waitress said. Then when a table freed up that did have shade thanks to an awning, we couldn't move because it 'that's not my section,' our waitress said. We may try this place one more time in the future, but would be in no hurry and only in early evening when the sun isn't so high in the sky. read more

We were driving back to the cities and decided to drive through downtown Brainerd and stumbled across this super cute place! They are doing a great job with Covid and operating very safely! The food was phenomenal!! We had the Muhammrah dip which was authentic and delicious! Also the grown up grill cheese and bruschetta blt and they were sooo fresh and tasty!! Always on the look out for a new place to try for lunch. Today we stumbled across Sage on Laurel. Very eclectic and artsy atmosphere. We had pork sliders and the walleyewich. Both were very tasty. We tried the sweet potato fries which are sprinkled with sugar and come with a brown sugar maple dipping sauce. Quite interesting and delicious. The service was a little slow but our waitress Nikki was a hoot. Enjoyed her! Will go back there are other delights to be sampled. read more

Wow! We stopped into Sage on a Saturday afternoon and sat outside in the sunshine under an umbrella, surrounded by herbs growing in window boxes. Our favorite meal was the brisket Reuben, which was truly superlative, followed by stellar sweet potato fries. Next best was the BEAT sandwich (bacon, egg, avocado, tomato), and last was the walleye burger - which was still delicious. Service was friendly and speedy. Service was terribly slow. It took us over 15 minutes to talk to anyone to take our drink order. By that time, we ordered all our food including appetizers. After 40 min, still no food and empty drinks. Finally got our wings after 45 min. They were not worth the wait! We tried teriyaki and Thai peanut and neither are great. After an hour, we finally had our food and it was all mediocre. The burger, the spring roll salad, chicken BLT, kids tenders and corn dogs...all mediocre at best. I would not recommend the apricot mimosa because it doesn't taste like apricot and is very small. Definitely would not recommend and will not be back. Given the rumbles of gossip in the area, I decided to give this place a chance to have their method to their madness in the kitchen fine tuned before trying it out to give it a shot. So, today was the big day! Went for lunch with my parents. Waitstaff were immediately attentive, and we were seated right away. As it was nice outside, we chose the patio. Good choice of sun or shade seating. Waters were out right away. Ordering was prompt, and food was ready in 15 minutes. I had the chicken bruschetta BLT as a wrap with the chicken wild rice soup, which was excellent. I'm picky about bruschetta and this was a home run. The soup was just right. My parents had the mediterranean chicken panini with rainbow slaw, and the walleye burger with sweet potato fries. They each enjoyed their food. Portions were very good size, and my mom and I each took half our sandwich home. To summarize: Waitstaff were prompt and friendly. Food was great. Portions were great. Outdoor patio is nice with the umbrellas and the stock tank garden starting to grow. Bathroom was clean. Yep, definitely coming back! If you were here when they first opened and were disappointed, give it another shot. read more

We went on 6/26/18 for lunch. The atmosphere was nice. The service was prompt and friendly. Food was mostly good. However when taking the order we told the server and she seemed to make a note of 2 of our party having tree nut allergies. This menu has some walnut items on it. When finishing the meal those 2 people had a reaction to the nuts. We don't think the nuts were actually in the food but most likely a cross contamination from a work surface or utensil. We did not report it to staff at the time as sometimes these reactions have symptoms of vomiting or shortness of breath, and felt the need to leave the restaurant. Because of these reactions we will not be back. read more

The cooks clearly had no clue what the menu read as the five orders we placed were thrown together missing many things the menu stated they would have. My husband and I were looking for a place with gluten free items and also a variety of items in the menu. This place far superseded our expectations. The red chicken curry was so good I would've done a cartwheel, but I was wearing a dress. My husband had the chicken wild rice soup and Hawaiian pulled pork sandwich. He isn't easily impressed when eating at a restaurant, but upon finishing his last bite said, "I'm sad it's over!" Our server Nikki absolutely completed the experience. Give Sage on Laurel a try. The waitress forgot all about us we had to remind her to take our order after 30 minutes or so. After another 40 minutes we asked to move inside for bad weather. From where we were seated I could see food up and the cook kept ringing the bell. After 20 more minutes inside they started bringing us the food that had been sitting ready the whole time we were waiting inside. This place was a wonderful find. We had to negotiate a detour due to road construction to get there, but it was with the hassle. We had a walleye patty burger and a rainbow bowl. The burger was innovative, fresh, and delicious. It's a sort of lakes country take on the crab cake. The rainbow bowl came with fresh greens, rainbow slaw, wild rice, and a tasty piece of high quality smoked salmon. It was a bowl of healthy deliciousness. Service was friendly and fast. We've travelled to Brainerd a number of times to visit my son-in-law and his family. We've eaten at a number of restaurants in the area. Many have been good but not memorable. But our recent experience at Sage on Laurel for lunch and then dinner was quite different. Both the food and service were excellent. The food is American style and very good and the selection fit our tastes perfectly. The place is new but it is already operating at a high level and will only get better. We had dinner here on Sat, then came back for lunch on a week day because we had enjoyed our first meal so much. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything was very fresh and flavorful, from the soups to the tacos. A nice perk was that our dogs were welcome on the patio, even greeted with their own water bowls.
