When I checked out some of the new groceries she received on February 27, 2018, I saw the eggs were dated December 25, 2017! I then started checking other groceries and her orange juice was dated January 8, and the sausages were dated two days before she ordered! I called very upset and wanted to speak with the manager who wasn't in at the time. I told the woman who answered the phone what my complaint was since she was the person my mother always dealt with and she said it wasn't her but maybe someone else in the store. Totally missing the point that the expired food should be even in the store to sell! She then told me the manager was now in and I asked to speak with her. After waiting for quite a while on hold, I can only imagine she was telling the manager what my complaint was, she returned telling me the manager was too busy to speak with me. Selling expired food to senior citizens is an issue the manager felt too busy to deal with!! I asked my mother to never shop there again for her own safety. Full disclosure, they offered to replace the food if I returned it. I refused not seeing any reason I should go out of my way and they refused to deliver a replacement. Please for your own health check the expiry dates on your food! They still never called to apologize to my mother!

Accessibility was a little tricky at first, the fully accessible entrance with automatic doors closes about two hours earlier than the rest of the store. When I arrived the first time, the staff were incredibly kind and helped lift me and my wheelchair over the small step at the front, which I really appreciated. Once inside, the aisles are spacious, well-marked, and easy to navigate with a wheelchair. Anything that was out of reach wasn't an issue at all because the staff were very friendly and happy to help. We made it work with their English and my French, which made the experience more enjoyable. My return visit the next morning was much smoother since it was daylight and I already had a sense of layout. The staff were even friendlier the second time around. The hot food was really good--maybe not as much variety as I'm used to, but still very satisfying. The chicken wings were fresh, hot and well prepared, the potato wedges were well seasoned, large and hot! Checkout was quick and easy, with registers at both the front and back of the store. They also accept all forms of payment, which made things convenient. Overall, a really positive experience, especially because of how helpful and welcoming the staff were.

This IGA - aside from being amazing in all the ways I described in my original review - seems to be setting the standard for how to properly operate under the current conditions so I wanted to share in the hopes of other grocery stores following their lead. When you arrive here, all the doors are closed except for one and when you enter that one there's a portable handwashing station like you'd see outside portopotties at a festival. So everyone is washing their hands as they enter. Then they are given a cart which has just been wiped down by the staff. Staff are also circulating wiping down the handles of fridge doors etc. Cashiers are using sanitizer between every customer and as you leave your cart is immediately wiped down again. This loving attention will save lives in our community and I really really appreciate it.
