Front desk staff is horrible. Zero accountability for their mistakes and zero compassion. When I…read morecalled to schedule my appointment for shoulder surgery consultation they told me my appt was at 10:30 and to come in at 10. I got there even earlier at 9:50 and checked in. I drove over an hour to get here. They gave me an iPad to update my info and to sign forms. While I was finishing up at 10:20, they told me they have to reschedule my appt that I should've been there at 9:30 to fill out forms. I told them, no when I scheduled the appt I was told to come in at 10am and my appt would be at 10:30. The front desk staff didn't care and tried to argue with me about it. This is very frustrating and angers me because I was very adamant on the phone when I scheduled that I can't come in before 10am because I'm disabled and have a lot of health issues and live far away so there was no way I'd be able to get there before then. Me and the lady on the phone literally had a whole conversation about it! The front desk staff didn't care. They took zero responsibility for their mistakes. Which sucks for them because they would've made a lot of money doing my shoulder surgery. I will be taking my business elsewhere! I can't express enough, do not go there! After my dealings with them today I am seriously considering finding a lawyer for medical malpractice because of how much they screwed up my ankle I had surgery on with their Santa Maria office previously. I now have CRPS in my ankle and still not able to walk on it almost two years later because the PA didn't believe my X-rays or listen to how much pain I was in. I tore 6 ligaments and separated my leg bones. I shouldn't have been walking and should've had surgery right away! But instead they sent me to physical therapy for 16 weeks which was pure torture. The physical therapy literally had to go to them to tell them they need to order an mri because this isn't ethical. Right after MRI they realized their screw up and I had surgery right away. But because they screwed up and waited so long I now have nerve damage and CRPS in my ankle and am in constant pain 24/7. So please whatever you do, do not go here! They are so horrible. They don't care about patients at all!

Well it's been almost 3 years and my knee is way worse than it was before the surgery. I deeply, deeply regret letting Dr. Renee Smith talk me into having the surgery. It was a horrible idea and it actually has completely ruined my body. I have had subsequent other injuries because of the continued inflammation and instability of the knee that was pretty much okay before but had just bothered me a little bit off and on for a long time and she gave me the impression that this would help me. In fact she even said when I complained afterwards that it seemed worse that she figured "It was worth it if there was an 85% Improvement in my quality of life". There has FOR SURE been an 85% DECREASE in my quality of life since the surgery. I am enormously regretful. It did permanent damage to my body and has caused other injuries. HORRIBLE. I've actually talked to a lot of people who rub their fingers together and say yeah it's very lucrative for them to suggest the surgery it's quick and easy for them but it's thousands of dollars in their pocket and have talked to a bunch of people who have had the same surgery and regret it and say they are worse off now. This is a horrible disservice to do to people and I'm hearing this story again and again. Oh, and I've been told by other more competent doctors after she slaughtered me that you are 60% more likely to have arthritis in a knee after having even an arthroscopic surgery. I can tell it's already happening and I'm not that old. She is lucky that I am not litigious because I probably have a viable claim to a medical malpractice lawsuit case.

I am currently recovering from my second surgery completed in early February. I find Dr. Orlando to be knowledgable, courteous and empathetic. My initial surgery took place in December 2022 and I have made a full recovery with full ROM in the shoulder. I am so thankful for this surgeon who finally found the cause and relief from the extreme pain I had been experiencing for more than four years. You might want to read my review on Dr. Sima. When I met with Dr. Orlando he simply confirmed, chronic bursitis, tear, bone spurs, arthritis. Appointment was set for surgery. I am 63 years old. As a toddler I had had a bad spinal tap which temporary paralyzed from the waist down. I have always had what I call a weak back in that area. But I have never gone to a doctor for it. He said he was concerned that a lot of my pain was coming from that area and he ordered an MRI. The MRI showed there is stenosis which is a narrowing there is mild to moderate degenerative disc. And so it is something that I probably should see a specialist, an orthopedic specialist or a Nuro specialist and have a valuated. But it has nothing to do with what is going on with the hip. All of that was verified by Sima. At the preop appt Orlando said he was just going to fix the tear and leave the rest alone. 20 years ago I had surgery on my spine in the neck area where they had to go back later and do repairs for bone spurs. So at this appointment I said please, while you're in there please look at everything and do as much as you can so that I won't have to come back for more surgery later. I said it very pleasantly very calmly but I saw a shift in him. He kind of froze and blinked a couple of times and he seem to backtrack a little bit. And started saying that he didn't even know if I had a tear. Excuse me I've read the MRI I've heard the report from Dr. Sima. And you Dr. Orlando have stated there is a tear. But he just continue to act very nervous and talking faster and faster and so when I said well what does the MRI say? He froze again, said I don't know that they've even sent it over here. I said well I know they have because I verified that they sent it to you. So he asked his nurse to pull up my report. He turned to the monitor for literally two seconds spun back around and said yes it was as he suspected, all of my pain and troubles was coming from my spine. I was stunned. He basically flew out of the office. And that was that. Everything was still on but he absolve himself of any results from the surgery. That night I woke up in so much pain that I had to call 911. I literally could not even shift my body. It felt like my right hip had been stung by a horde of hornets While I was in the middle of a massive muscle spasm. Hot searing pain and convulsing muscles. They shot me full of Cortizone and lidocaine and pain meds. And sent me home. because I was already under a doctors care and was scheduled for surgery. When I called his office thinking that they were going to speed the surgery up maybe he completely backed out. I believe he had been in a situation where there were other complications and those complications were blamed on his surgery. Because there was so much fear in his voice. So much emotional fear in his voice. Speaking rapidly and so on. He even said you cannot force me into the surgery! I calmly assured him even though I was in a bit of shock that I had no intention of trying to force anyone into anything. I said the last thing I need is a doctor operating on me who does not wish to operate. I just want to know what you suggest I do from this point on. Did he use the words you need to find an orthopedic surgeon and here is a recommendation? Or a neurosurgeon, here as a recommendation? No. He might as well have been a bricklayer. He just kept saying you need to find a back doctor. I can't read the MRIs of your back I don't understand them that's not my specialty. I am a hip specialist. find a back doctor. Well that's about it. I wish you luck in your search for a good doctor. That is my experience with him. Yes I do have an appointment with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Carr. Head doctor Sima's office suggested an orthopedic surgeon back on August 29 or Orlando's on September 7. I would not be sitting here homebound since September 28 when I wound up in the ER. And to give you an idea of time wasted. My first appointment with Dr. Sima was supposed to be last November. Somewhere along the line they called me and said they were going to have to reschedule for January 11. From the beginning I thought I was seeing Dr. Sima. But I would see his nurse. She would send me to physical therapy. The next month she would do a Cortizone shot. The next month they would order the MRI with dye contrast. Then they lost that nurse. And they moved my appointment back another month. They did the wrong hip. The next month it would be the correct hip. And so on and so on until here I sit walking around my house as very little as possible using to canes when I do walk or my little tricycle.

I fractured my scapula a couple of weeks ago, x-rays in the ER and a referral to CCO. I called CCO the next day to schedule an appointment, got voicemail, so I left the details and asked for a call back. Called again each of the next two days, left messages, and waited for a callback. Nothing. By Thursday, I called my primary, asked for a PT referral (which they sent the same day) and went to PT the next day to deal with all the pain and muscle stiffness. PT noticed that the ER referred me to the spine guy at CCO, not the shoulder guy. So on the way home, I stopped by CCO with my ER referral paperwork from Monday , and asked to set an appointment with their shoulder specialist. The nice lady behind the desk, said she understood why I'd want to see the shoulder guy but had to get the spine guy to agree that the shoulder guy was the right specialist to see me, and assured me they'd be back in touch shortly. For a minute, I thought she was saying I could wait there in the lobby while she got that approval. It wasn't until Thursday the next week that I got the call to set an appointment... with the Physician's Assistant... in a week. I told the lady on the phone that I didn't see the point in seeing a PA after 3 weeks with the injury, and that I wanted to see the shoulder physician. Confused, she asked whether I wanted the appointment or not. I clarified that I didn't see the point in seeing a PA 3 weeks after my injury, and that while they'd been "dickin' around with their internal process trying to get me in", I'd already seen my primary, had 2 PT sessions, and one with my Rolfer / Massage therapist. As I was finishing that sentence, she said my language was unacceptable and hung up. To CCO, I'm sorry for saying "dickin' around". For the snowflake on the phone and for the management over there, please expect that injured patients trying to get acute care might be frustrated when it takes you two weeks to do something that should take 10 minutes.
